Edo guber elections: PDP advises APC to stop heating up polity

Nine months to the governorship elections in Edo, the PDP has warned the ruling APC in the state, to desist from taking actions or making utterances that would heat up the polity and stoke violence.
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Edo, Mr Chris Nehikhare, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Friday.
His appeal comes amid worsening political tension in the state, arising from the governorship election in the state, slated for August next year.

MLB removes marijuana from ‘drugs of abuse,’ to test players for opioids

Major League Baseball (MLB) will remove marijuana from its list of banned substances and players who test positive for opioids, fentanyl, cocaine and synthetic THC under random drug tests will be referred for treatment before being disciplined, the league’s updated drug policy announced on Thursday.
The sweeping changes, which take effect from Spring Training in 2020, “favor a treatment-based approach to Drugs of Abuse,” according to the joint announcement from the MLB and its players’ union.

25 persons burnt to death in Bauchi auto crash

The police in Bauchi said on Thursday that 25 persons were burnt to death in an auto crash along Bauchi- Ningi Road in Bauchi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Abubakar Kamal, made this known in a statements in Bauchi.
Kamal said the accident occurred, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involved two vehicles; a Peugeot J5 Bus and a Toyota 18-seater Hummer bus.

Not less than 15 persons were injured yesterday as supporters of the two factions existing in Edo State All Progressives Congress clashed as a result of the controversies surrounding the planned mega rally to receive members of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The victims were hospitalised at the new Central Hospital.
Meanwhile, there was heavy presence of suspected thugs and security at the state Secretariat of the APC along Airport Road last night as Vanguard gathered that the beefing up was to prevent the taking over of the Secretariat by the acting chairman, Col David Imuse (rtd).

2019 election: Algerian protesters demand clean up of political establishment

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of the Algerian capital, Algiers, to protest against Thursday’s presidential election in the North African nation.
They briefly overran a polling station. An attempt by police to disperse the crowd failed.
Two more voting centres were stormed in the Kabylie region, east of the capital on Friday.
The vote follows the ousting of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was forced to resign in April.

Obaseki mourns Sam Iredia, hails his enviable strides

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of the former Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), High Chief Sam Iredia, extolling his exemplary life of service to the state and humanity.
In a statement, the governor said late Chief Iredia would be sorely missed even as he would be fondly remembered for his key roles in the development of the state.
