Liverpool are set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Salzburg midfielder Takumi Minamino in January.
The Reds are confident of landing the Japan international after discovering a £7.25m ($9.6m) clause in the 24-year-old’s contract.
Minamino impressed in both games for Salzburg against Liverpool in the Champions League group stage, and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes he would be an ideal addition to his squad as they target glory at home and abroad in the New Year.

German Koch won’t bid for FIFA post out of respect for French rival
German football federation (DFB), vice-president Rainer Koch, on Thursday said he would not seek a place on the council of the ruling body FIFA because French federation boss, Noel Le- Graet is bidding as well.
According to him, the DFB and the French federation are very close. Looking at the German-French friendship, and out of respect for Le-Graet and his merits in football, it was clear for me to renounce my candidature.

Messi: La Liga has become more complicated
Lionel Messi believes the gap between Barcelona, Real Madrid and the rest of La Liga has closed considerably over the past decade making the league a lot more complicated.
Barcelona lead Madrid on goal difference at the top of the table on 34 points, with Sevilla three points back in third. However, just three points separate fourth-place Real Sociedad on 27 points and Granada in ninth.

Buffon lauds Ronaldo and Higuain for setting Juventus example
Gianluigi Buffon praised Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain for leading by example in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Juve already had top spot in Group D wrapped up ahead of their trip to Leverkusen, who needed to avoid defeat to have any chance of advancing to the last 16.
