Chile cargo plane crashed with 38 onboard – Air Force

Chile’s Air Force on Tuesday said one of its cargo planes had crashed with 38 people on board after going missing in an isolated area between South America and the Antarctic.
The Air Force added that a rescue team was searching for survivors.
The Hercules C130 aircraft took off at 4.55 p.m. (1955 GMT) on Monday from the southern city of Punta Arenas in Chilean Patagonia.
The plane was heading to a base in Antarctica, but operators lost contact with the plane shortly after 6.00 p.m.

Nigeria coach Rohr dismisses comparison of QPR’s Eze with Reading’s Ejaria

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr said he has never compared QPR midfielder Eberechi Eze with Reading star Ovie Ejaria, as the West African country work to secure their services for the national team.
Both players, who ply their trade in the Championship, are of Nigerian descent and are eligible to play for either the Super Eagles or England – the country where they were born.

As part of efforts to secure their allegiance, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has held meetings with Eze, who has scored nine league goals this term
Earlier this week, there were reports quoting Rohr saying he prefers Liverpool loanee Ejaria to Eze, but the German coach described it as false statement and calls for respect of his relationship with the Nigerian media.

The immediate past senator that represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, Senator Shehu Sani Wednesday boasted that he is not done with politics yet and will bounce back in 2023 “when our people want us to return”.
He spoke in his residence in Kaduna when he has conferred an award of excellence for his outstanding performance and generosity to the service of humanity by Sabon Garin Nassarawa Elders’ Forum.
 
Senator Shehu Sani lost his senatorial seat to Senator Uba Sani, an acolyte of the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El Rufai,  in 2019 election.

Government to assist customers of bankrupt Thomas Cook Germany

Package holidaymakers hit by the bankruptcy of the Germany subsidiary of British tour operator, Thomas Cook Germany will receive financial assistance from the state, according to a statement by the company on Wednesday.
The official announcement released in Berlin after a cabinet meeting, read in part: “The state will make good damage that is not otherwise compensated.”
Customers will be provided with the difference between what they receive from the Zurich insurance group or other sources and what they paid.

World Bank says forest fires cost Indonesia $5.2bn

World Bank on Wednesday said in a report that forest fires that ravaged parts of Indonesia in 2019 cost the country 5.2 billion dollars.
The World Bank said that the total damage and economic losses as a result of the worst forest fires since 2015 were equal to about 0.5 per cent of Indonesia’s gross domestic product.
It said that the economic loss could cut growth in 2019 and 2020 by 0.09 and 0.05 per cent.

Turkey says it will reciprocate if U.S. imposes sanctions over S-400s

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu warned on Wednesday that Turkey will retaliate against possible U.S. sanctions over its purchase of Russian missile defence systems.
Cavusoglu suggested that Ankara denying U.S. access to two military bases in Turkey would be among the options.
“Incirlik will come, Kurecik will too come (onto the agenda), everything else will come,” he said, referring to the air force base in the south and the military radar base in eastern Turkey.

Reps summon power, labour ministers over threats by NUEE to shutdown electricity

The House of Representatives has summoned the Ministers of Power, Saleh Mamman and Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige and the Director-General of Pensions Commission, Hajia Aisha Dahir-Umar, over threats by the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees(NUEE) to shut down electricity transmission plants in the country.
The House made the summons yesterday, after taking a motion of urgent National Importance raised by Deputy Leader of the House, Rep. Toby Okechukwu (PDP-Enugu) on threats by National Union of Electricity Employees(NUEES) to shut down activities in the Power Sector.

Sudan resumes peace talks with opposition in Juba

Sudan’s Transitional Government on Wednesday resumed peace talks in Juba, South Sudan capital, with various armed opposition groups that fought against the regime of former President Omar al-Bashir.
The Deputy Head, Sudan Transitional Council, Mohamed Hamdan-Daqlu, said they aimed to reach a comprehensive peace agreement with the opposition groups under the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), led by El-Hadi Idris, leader of Sudan Liberation Army.
