No going back on our rejection of IPPIS – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said on Wednesday there is no going back on its rejection of the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said in Lagos that there is nowhere in the world where such a development is obtained.
The federal government had directed that public sector workers, including universities, must be captured on the IPPIS to save cost and fight corruption by blocking leakages in its salary payment structure.

No evidence of hate speech was observed in Nigerian newspapers’ reports monitored between July and September 2019, according to a survey.
The survey comes against the backdrop of the controversial Hate Speech Bill currently in the works at the Senate.
The bill, which has outraged many Nigerians, provides for the death penalty for anyone who utters hate speech that leads to actions that cause death.
The sponsor of the bill is the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Sabi Abdullahi.

IPPIS: ASUU says no going back on non-inclusion stand

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says there is no going back on its stand concerning it’s refusal to be included in the Federal Government’s Intergrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, National President of the union, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that there is nowhere in the world where such a development obtained.
NAN reports that the Federal Government had recently directed that public sector workers, including universities must be captured on the payroll system to save cost and fight corruption by blocking leakages in its salary payment structure.

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are currently meeting in Abuja’s, with top party functionaries in attendance.
The summit which has its theme, “The Imperative of Developing Internally-Generated Revenue Options for State Governments in a Recessed Economy,” is expected to discuss issues on policy initiatives for building state and local government capacities as well as human capital initiatives in a 21st century.
The keynote address will be presented by former governor of Anambra State and PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Mr Peter Obi while the guest speaker, Akineleye Oladeji is expected to speak on “Process Automation.”

Just in: Tension as security operatives stop Melaye from entering INEC headquarters

There was tension on Wednesday at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as security operatives prevented Senator Dino Melaye and journalists from entering into the premises to submit what was perceived to be “additional petition.”
It was gathered that a camera belonging to a Journalist was seized but later released when Melaye intervened.

UPU leadership postpones 2019 NEC election overpressure, court case

The Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, under the leadership of the President-General, Chief (Engr.) Joe Orode Omene, has postponed the forthcoming 2019, National Executive Council, NEC, election due for the first week of December 2019, following a pressure and lingering Court case at the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta state.
In a press statement by the UPU National Secretary, Martins Ahweyevu Mukoro, Esq., said upon recommendation of the President-General in consultation with the NEC, the Annual Emergency Urhobo National Congress in a meeting last Saturday, resolved in line with Article 9 (D) of the UPU Constitution that the election into the National Executive Council fixed for first week December 2019, be postponed for one year.
