2023 Election: Tinubu Is No Match For Atiku, He’ll Realise Nigeria Is Not His Acquired Estate, Says Opposition PDP

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, as no match for its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The opposition party claimed on Wednesday that the victory of Tinubu at the APC presidential primary election has given the PDP an edge ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Debo Ologunagba, the spokesperson for the party, described Atiku as more competent and prepared than Tinubu.
“Our Party also sympathizes with Asiwaju for embarking on a journey to nowhere as he is no match for PDP’s more popular, more competent and more prepared Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, the unifier and the people’s choice, who defeated President Buhari fair and square in the 2019 Presidential election,” the PDP said.
“Asiwaju will soon realize that Nigeria is not one of his acquired estates or fiefdoms and that the Nigerian people are not his political string-puppets and retinue of lackeys, from whom he bought the APC Presidential ticket. SaharaReporters had reported that Tinubu earlier clinched the presidential ticket of the ruling APC with 1,271 votes.Tinubu on Wednesday emerged as the APC presidential candidate after defeating a former transportation minister, Rotimi Amaechi; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, among others.

Over 32 Villagers Killed After Helicopter Helped Killer Herders Burn Down Southern Kaduna Community, Says Local Group

No fewer than 32 persons have been reportedly killed following an attack by killer herdsmen on Ungwan Gamu, Dogon Noma, Ungwan Sarki and Maikori villages near Maro in the Kajuru local government area of Southern Kaduna. The communities were reportedly attacked on Sunday, June 5 from 12 pm until around 6 pm without military intervention, a statement by the Adara Development Association noted.

According to the statement signed by Awemi Dio Maisamari, the National President of the group, the terrorists came on 150 motorcycles carrying three AK-47-wielding persons each. It noted that while the armed killers were carrying out their operations in some areas, the villagers mobilised to repel the attackers at Maikori village and were already recording some successes as they were taking control of the situation. Shockingly, a helicopter appeared and started air strikes against the natives who were trying to defend themselves. Maisamari said this made the youths run in search of safety, enabling the invaders to burn down the whole community. The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Dogo Noma was razed down, the statement said. Several members of the community sustained injuries from the gunshots from the helicopter. However, the number of casualties has yet to be ascertained. As of the time of filing this report, 32 dead bodies had been recovered. On Monday, the community gathered to conduct a mass burial for the victims but gunmen invaded again and abducted scores of persons. The assailants have yet to make contact with the families of the victims, the statement said. The Association called on the Nigeria Air Force to conduct an investigation into the incident and determine if the helicopter and the crew are affiliated with the Nigerian Military. According to the statement, there are reports of helicopters dropping weapons and provisions to bandits in their locations both in and out of Adara Chiefdom. The statement reads, “In the latest tragedy, Ungwan Gamu, Dogon Noma, Ungwan Sarki and Maikori villages near Maro in Kajuru LGA were attacked on Sunday, 5th June, 2022. The death toll this morning is 32 as villagers comb surrounding bushes for more corpses. “7 corpses were found this morning in varying degrees of decomposition. The attack started around 12 noon and lasted until around 6 pm unchallenged by the state. It was carried out by Fulani terrorists mounted on 150 motorcycles carrying three AK-47 wielding persons each. “When the armed killers were carrying out the killings around 3 pm, the villagers mobilised to repel the attackers at Maikori village. “The valiant natives who came out in large numbers from neighbouring villages were already driving back the invaders and taking control of the situation when a helicopter appeared. “To the horror of the natives, the white-painted helicopter faced the brave natives instead and started gunning the youths from the air, clearly leaving out the killers who can be distinctly identified by the mode of dressing and from their positions. “There was no way that poorly armed farmers using crude weapons could face the combined fire strength of better-armed herdsmen and a gun-mounted helicopter. With no other options, the Adara youths had to scamper for safety. “This enabled the attackers to burn down the whole village. The covering fire of the helicopter also enabled the attackers to escape unhurt. As a result of the attack, 25 persons, mostly men were killed. 16 men, 5 women, and 4 children were killed. “We are not yet sure how many of the casualties were caused by the gunshots from the helicopter. But some injured persons are taking treatments in various hospitals. “Some houses were burnt at Ungwan Sarki but Maikori village was completely destroyed. The ECWA church in Dogo Noma was razed down. Some houses in Unguwan Sarki and Unguwan Gamu were also burnt. “The burial of victims was disrupted yesterday, Monday, 6/6/2022 as the Fulani terrorists were sighted in nearby bushes. “Furthermore, many people are still missing and some of them are believed to have been abducted by the assailants. So far, no contacts have been made. The attack has caused serious panic, leading to the displacement of thousands of people in the area.“Most of the displaced persons, especially women and children are still relocating to places like Katul Crossing, Kachia, Idon and Maraban Kajuru. The attack has compounded the already very bad humanitarian situation in Kajuru LGA because Kutura station and other neighbouring villages were similarly destroyed and displaced on 8th April 2022. “The Adara Development Association (ADA) wants the Nigeria Air Force to thoroughly investigate this incident and determine if the helicopter and the crew belong to the Nigeria Air Force. “There have been too many reports of helicopters dropping weapons and provisions to bandits in their locations both in and out of Adara Chiefdom. “The Nigeria Air Force should speak on this incident to clear the air. We are calling on the government and other people of conscience to come to the aid of our displaced and dehumanised people.  “The ADA also wishes to express its outrage with the Kaduna State Governor for abandoning the people to the mercy of Fulani terrorists.”

Absence Of Judge Attending Seminar Stalls Trial Of Ex-Wife Of Former Aviation Minister, Fani-Kayode

The absence of Justice Obiora Egwuatu of a Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday stalled the hearing in a suit filed by a former senator, Mrs Grace Bent against Precious Chikwendu, ex-wife of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.
The matter could not proceed due to Justice Egwuatu’s Absence.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the judge was a participant in the ongoing three-day judges’ seminar that is being held at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Abuja. The case was adjourned till October 6 for the commencement of trial.Chikwendu, a former beauty queen, had pleaded not guilty to charges bordering on defamation of character and cyberstalking which was read to her on March 10 after she was arraigned by the Nigeria Police.Following her not guilty plea, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Victor Okoye urged the court to remand her at a correctional facility pending the hearing and determination of the matter. But the counsel for Chikwendu, Mr Alex Ejesieme, SAN, opposed the application. The judge, who admitted Chikwendu to bail in the terms of the administrative bail earlier granted her by the police, adjourned the matter for trial commencement.Chikwendu on February 14 appeared before a sister court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo for the attempted murder of her former husband, Fani-Kayode.However, in amended 14 counts marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/01/2022 dated and filed by John Ijagbemi on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command on April 22, the ex-wife was said to have committed attempted culpable homicide on November 24, 2018.She was alleged to have attempted to kill Fani-Kayode, their children and other occupants of their house at Asokoro within the court’s jurisdiction. She was also accused of making false allegations with doctored pictures with the intent to deceive members of the public and make them believe that the injuries in the pictures were inflicted on her by her ex-husband.She had taken to her Instagram page in February 2022 to recount how she was physically assaulted by her estranged husband four months after she had her first son. SaharaReporters had reported how Fani-Kayode and Chikwendu’s marriage crashed in 2020 over allegations of domestic violence by the former beauty queen and his counter-allegation of infidelity. The former lovers have been in court to fight for the custody of their children — Aragorn, Ragnar, Aiden, and Liam. Sharing a slideshow of the happy moments she had with her son before they were separated on Instagram, she had narrated how she was allegedly physically abused by the former minister when they were still together.  “You are that son that gives me peace and calm in the storm, your ability to understand me even in silence still amazes me. I know you are not ignorant of the happenings but can do nothing as you just soak things in and forge on,” she had written.  “Never underestimate the bond between your mother and you the bond that was formed right from when you were in my womb and you witnessed all the punches, you took them with me as you kicked so hard and would only calm down when I whispered and pleaded with you, affirming that you would one day wipe my tears.  “It was only at that point you would calm down and stop kicking as if you understood how those punches and harsh words froze my entire heart and soul.”  Chikwendu also recalled how the former minister allegedly beat her up when Aragorn was barely four months old. “What haven’t we weathered together? You witnessed so many in my womb and when you arrived this world, you were barely four months old when you witnessed your mother being beaten like a puppy,” she had added. “You were in my arms that night at the Wheatbaker Hotel after he was released from Ikoyi prison; it was all laughter at first, then prayers of thanksgiving and next, punches.“You were dragged from my arms like a little bag of cake and I held on so tightly, the look in your eyes was that of so much fear, I looked into your eyes and I could read you clearly it was more of ‘never let me go mum.’ “So, I held on to you, the more I held on to you, the more the punches came. You cried out loudly and my heart shredded the more as the splashes of blood gushing from my nose landed on you. “You were so terrified and all I wanted to do was get you out of that scene. I was able to get off with you and ran to the short stay apartment where Chidera and others were before you slept off on my chest after crying for so long.”

E2%80%99-salaries-nigerian-university-professor $25,000 Presidential Delegate Bribe Can Pay 3 Years’ Salaries Of Nigerian University Professor – Group

A non-governmental organisation, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), says that the $25,000 bribe reportedly paid to some presidential primary delegates each can pay three years’ salaries of a Nigerian university professor. Intersociety regretted that such an amount could be paid to induce delegates while university lecturers had been on strike for close to four months over poor remuneration and funding of schools.

The group said, “The monthly remuneration (basic salary and allowances) of a Professor of Nigerian University presently stands at N416, 000 or N15m for three years.” A statement by the group on Wednesday, signed by its Board Chair, Emeka Umeagbalasi; Head, Democracy and Good Governance, Chinwe Umeche, among others, said it was no longer going to be business as usual. They noted that unlike in the past elections such as in 2011 and 2019 when some leading northern political players hid under religious extremism to organise and sponsor post-election mayhems targeted majorly at members of the Igbo ethnic nationality and their Trado-Judeo-Christian faith; the electoral umpire must get it right in 2023 to “avoid the explosion of post-election tsunami of unquenchable proportions across the country”. It alleged that through the INEC conspiracy, “millions of eligible voters of old Eastern Nigeria and Midwest residents in the North-Central States of Plateau, Benue, Niger, FCT, Kogi and Nasarawa; Northeast States of Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Yobe; Northwest States of Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano, Jigawa and Kebbi; and Southwest States of Lagos and Ogun were denied and are still being denied demographic or registration and voting centre accessibility for them to be captured as voters and allowed to vote during elections. “During the 2019 Presidential Poll, they were targeted and destructively attacked in Lagos, Plateau, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano and several other parts of the country. “Apart from millions of them disenfranchised during the past voter registration and revalidation exercises, millions of others were also chased away from polling booths in the February 2019 Presidential Poll with their properties worth billions of naira destroyed or burnt to ashes. “Millions of members of the sedentary Southeast and South-South population have also been disenfranchised by INEC by deliberately denying them from being captured as registered voters with PVCs hiding under ‘technical hitches’ or at the polling units on the Election Day. “These are sharply in contrast with what was obtainable in the North, especially its Muslim held areas where most of the eligible voters were not only captured to vote with PVCs but also millions of underage and illegal aliens were registered as voters with PVCs and allowed to vote during elections.” It said that checks conducted in various registration centres across the country, especially in the Igbo Southeast and South-South have shown that the Commission is at it again by playing pranks on the ongoing voters’ registration. “Apart from massive disenfranchisement through shrinking constituency delineation exercise in recent past, especially in Igbo and Christian populated areas in the North and the Southwest, acute shortage of registration machines and manpower, especially in the named areas have been reported in the ongoing exercise with less than 22 days to go. “INEC has also shut down its website segments for fresh voters’ registration, revalidation and transfer but still advertises them to be open and operational. Long queues of massive prospective voters involving hundreds of thousands, if not in their millions have dotted most of the registration centres in the Southeast, South-South and Igbo/Christian held areas of the Southwest and the North.” The group alleged that the situation is different in the Muslim dominated areas of the country where “PVCs are issued to their owners including children of underage and illegal aliens by proxies including through Village Heads”.“In several places monitored in Onitsha South, Onitsha North, Idemmili North, Ogbaru and Aguata in Anambra State, for instance, a price tag of between N2, 000 and N5, 000 is additionally imposed for getting to be registered,” it said. It further stated, “These are some of the Commission’s undoing in its ongoing electoral midwifery capable of pushing millions of Nigerian youths/revolutionary voters from ‘Ballot Revolution’ to ‘Street Revolution’. These, INEC must desist from continuing to do and must have them frontally redressed and put to an end before it is too late.”

E2%80%98no-work-no-pay%E2%80%99-university-lecturers-directs ASUU Strike: Edo Government Declares ‘No Work, No Pay’ For University Lecturers, Directs Academic Resumption

The Edo State government on Wednesday directed the immediate suspension of the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other academic union bodies in the state. It also directed the immediate resumption of academic activities in all state-owned academic institutions, while particularly mandating the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and all other institutions owned and run by the state government to implement a ‘no-work, no-pay’ policy and declare as vacant and advertise the position of any staff member who refuses to resume for work.

According to a statement made available to journalists by the Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media Project, Crusoe Osagie, after this week’s State Executive Council meeting, the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, listed the affected academic unions to include the ASUU, Non-Academic Staff of Universities (NASU), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU). Others are the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (NASUP), and other unions within state-owned higher academic institutions across the state. The directive followed a protest by students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, over the ASUU strike. The state government also directed the management of all the affected state-owned universities, polytechnics and other higher academic institutions to as a matter of immediacy, pay lecturers all outstanding salaries. “By this notice, academic activities are to resume in all state-owned institutions and all cadres of staff are directed to report to their duty posts immediately. Students across all state-owned tertiary institutions are expected to resume for lectures as necessary measures have been taken to ensure the resumption of academic and non-academic activities. “Management of the affected institutions have been mandated to pay all outstanding salaries immediately. The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, is hereby directed to implement a no-work-no-pay policy, declare vacant and advertise the position of any staff that refuses to resume work in line with this directive,” the statement read. ASUU embarked on industrial action on February 14 over the Nigerian government’s failure to honour agreements it signed with the union and its inability to meet the union’s demands, including improved funding for universities. The strike has grounded academic activities across the country for over three months now, leaving many students idle and extending their years of study.

E2%80%98god-has-not-sent Winners Chapel Founder, Oyedepo Blows Hot Over Ondo Church Massacre, Says ‘God Has Not Sent Me If They Escape Death’

The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has spit fire over Sunday’s massacre of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo, saying the killers will never escape death unless God has not sent him. Oyedepo, who condemned the attack that left about 50 worshippers dead with dozens injured, pronounced immediate death as punishment for the assailants and all the people backing them.

Speaking at the headquarters of the church at Ota in Ogun State, the cleric also decried the rising cases of wanton killings and insecurity across Nigeria. The cleric said that the devil is scared of the church because it is a place filled with the power of God and the people of God are empowered to take dominion over their enemies. “That is why those vagabonds were out there in Ondo State to kill. I can tell you this, if they escape death, God has not sent me. Their generation will smell, and the people who sent them will smell. They shall be forgotten. The back of their camel is already broken. “Everybody living is created by God. All the gang-up from hell against the well-being of this nation has come under a curse. Curse be to all those causing attack in this country,” DAILY POST quoted the cleric as saying.

African Action Congress Party To Hold Presidential Primary Thursday

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Action Congress (AAC) has fixed Thursday, June 9, 2022, for the party’s presidential primary election.
SaharaReporters learnt the primary election will be conducted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

In May the opposition party declared that its expression of interest and nomination forms for all elective positions in the party were free, noting that all hopefuls were only expected to make obligatory donations.
AAC was created by a 2019 presidential aspirant and Publisher at Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
The party was launched in Abuja, the country’s capital on August 15, 2018.
In preparation for the 2023 general elections, Nigerians in large numbers welcomed presidential hopeful of the AAC, Sowore, as he paid a visit to his home state, Ondo in May.
It was the first time the human rights activist would be visiting the state since the Muhammadu Buhari government restricted him to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, over his call for #RevolutionNow protests in 2019.

E2%80%94-tinubu-tells-osinbajo-other APC Primaries: I Hold No Grudge Or Grievance Against You — Tinubu Tells Osinbajo, Other Competitors

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who has emerged as the presidential candidate of the party, has assured opponents including Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, that he holds no grudge or grievance against them. Tinubu, while giving his remarks after winning the presidential primaries of the party at the Eagle Square, Abuja, on Wednesday, said those who competed against him have nothing to fear.

The former Lagos governor had 1,271 votes in the election, beating his opponents including former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello. Other aspirants are Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State; Cross River’s Ben Ayade; former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Rufia Sani; Christopher Onu; Pastor Tunde Bakare and Tien Jack Rich. The other two are former Minister of Information, Ikeobasi Mokelu and former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha. On Tuesday, seven aspirants stepped down for Tinubu. They are Senator Godswill Akpabio; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Kayode Fayemi; Abubakar Badaru; Dimeji Bankole; Senator Ajayi Boroffice and the only APC female presidential aspirant, Uju Ohanenye. Meanwhile, Vice-President Osinbajo, who was said to have enjoyed a cordial political relationship with Tinubu refused to step down. Many supporters of the former Lagos governor criticised Osinbajo for contesting the presidential ticket of the APC with his former boss. Osinbajo served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007 when Tinubu was the state governor. He had recently claimed he was instrumental in the appointment of Osinbajo as Vice-president. Other aspirants also continued with the contest with some of them noting that they wouldn’t step down for any reason. After being declared the winner on Wednesday, Tinubu informed his opponents that they have nothing to fear as he holds no grudge against them. Tinubu’s speech reads, “We have been at historic Eagle Square for many hours such that day has turned into night and night back into day. “Because of your democratic exertion, this convention shall be recorded as a shining moment in the evolution of our party and the life of our nation. “I must thank you all for making me the standard-bearer of our progressive party. And I humbly accept the nomination of this convention to be the presidential candidate of our enlightened, humanitarian and great party, the All Progressives Congress. “I also offer my sincere gratitude to President Buhari for his calm and prudent leadership throughout this process. I thank him, also, for his steadfast determination to ensure a level playing field and a free and fair primary process for every aspirant. Without him, I would not be standing here today as the new flag bearer of Nigeria’s party. “I thank the governors for their invaluable contribution to internal democracy and unity. “I commend the party leadership and organizers for the conduct of a successful convention. “Thank you, the delegates, for the confidence you have shown in me. I will prove that your choice was a wise one. You have moved our party and country towards its best future. On your mandate, I shall stand. “I commend my fellow aspirants. It is a difficult thing to run for president. The stiff and bold competition you offered made our party stronger and made me better. I must say a special word of thanks to the seven aspirants Alhaji Badaru Abubakar; Sen.; Ibikunle Amosun; Sen. Ajayi Borrofice; Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole; Sen. Godswill Akpabio; Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and Barr.(Mrs.) Uju Kennedy who chose to step down their personal ambitions for the good of the party and the unity of our purpose. “The competition is now over. Those who did not support me, you have nothing to fear. I hold no grudges or grievances. “Let us each agree to join hands in defeating the PDP and beating back our common foes of poverty, terror and violence. We now have a date with destiny in February 2023. Let us win so Nigeria can become the nation it is intended to be. “To my campaign team and close advisors. Your dedication, long hours, and sound advice have brought me to this point. “I thank my beautiful wife, Oluremi, for her patience and wise counsel. Thank you for standing by my side. I am indeed a fortunate man. “Now, permit me to address the nation. Yes, we face serious problems. But I believe that we have it within us to reach our finest destiny. With help from God, we shall make this nation better for the generations to come. “President Muhammad Buhari has already laid a solid foundation in security, economy, and anti-corruption. We will build upon this for the salvation of our people. “So, I ask you: Do we dare reform our national economy such that prosperity grows as poverty vanishes? “Yes, we dare. Do we dare provide meaningful education and jobs for our youths so that they may strive for a better future? “Yes, we dare. Our teeming youth population is our nation’s greatest asset. We will create jobs for our youth from the Zamfara and Osun gold deposits to the vast agricultural lands across the country. We will create new opportunities in the FINTECH sector, the creative and entertainment industries, digital skills and other areas. “Do we dare feed our nation and provide the farmer a solid income for his toil? Yes, we dare. “Do we dare construct a society where the vulnerable, the weak, the disadvantaged and the elderly are attended to and loved? Yes, for we must care for those who cannot care for themselves. “Do we dare muster our collective strength to conquer terrorism, kidnapping, and violent evil of any form? Yes, we dare. “After the PDP convention, I commended Abubakar Atiku. The ensuing contest between our party and his will be one of competing visions. “Our vision is of progress and the future that can be. We must defeat the PDP’s reactionary ideals. Our better, more progressive vision of Nigeria shall secure a better society for all Nigerians. “May this be our task arising from this convention. Let nothing stand in the way of our achieving a more just society and a greater Nigeria. “God bless the APC. God bless Nigeria.”
