E2%80%99t-want-offend-herdsmens-trade-%E2%80%93-cross I Refused To Sign Anti-Grazing Law Because I Didn’t Want To Offend Herdsmen’s Trade – Cross River Governor, Ayade

Governor Ben Ayade

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and a presidential aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress says he intentionally didn’t sign the anti-open grazing law like other Southern states. In May 2021, the governors of the Southern region, in a meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, resolved to ban open grazing and the movement of cattle by foot.

Governor Ben Ayade

The decision of the governors stirred mixed reactions as some Nigerians commended them for the initiative, while some disagreed, including Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). Speaking on Tuesday at the ongoing special convention of the party in Abuja, where delegates are to elect the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 poll, Ayade said he took the decision not to sign the bill into law so as not to offend the trade of herdsmen. He said, “We must realise that I’m the governor of Cross River State who refused to sign the anti-grazing law because I thought it was offending the trade of herdsmen. “I’m one governor who believed that this country can only be united if we address the challenges of our security system. The most critical aspect is education and agriculture.”

UPDATE: APC Presidential Primary: Fayemi, Amosun, Akpabio Step Down For Tinubu

Kayode Fayemi, Ibikunle Amosun and Godswill Akpabio, former governors of Ekiti, Ogun and Akwa Ibom states respectively have stepped down for Bola Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary race.
The trio made the move on Tuesday night during the 2022 APC National Convention at the Eagle Square in Abuja, saying it was after consultations.

“I would have run this race on the basis of my track record but haven’t taken cognizance of the history of the APC and the effort of the governors to bring peace in a fragile situation like this that we are looking at South.
“But I have seen a man older than me and who was the first visioner in governance and that man made us have good governance in Lagos state,” Akpabio said. “Therefore, I doff my hat and urged you that as I withdraw now, vote for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.”
Fayemi appealed to the delegates loyal to him to honour him and vote for Tinubu.
Fayemi, Akpabio and Amosun however, pledged to work for the party ahead of the general elections.

E2%80%94-adamu-apc-national-chairman-says-amid-confusion-over Things Are Not Falling Apart In APC — Adamu, APC National Chairman Says Amid Confusion Over Consensus Candidacy

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu has claimed things are not falling apart in the party but rather holding up amid the intrigues over the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket and consensus candidacy. Speaking at a special convention to elect a presidential candidate for the APC in the 2023 general election at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Adamu emphasised unity as a major factor to help the party succeed in the general elections.

He stated, “Since this national working committee that I’m privileged to lead, assumed office a little over two months ago, I have continually harped on the need for our unity, we can do nothing unless we’re truly united in thoughts, words and deeds, unity is the only glue that can hold our party together. “This should go without saying that we cannot go into the general elections next year and expect to remain in Aso Rock without putting our house in order. “It does not take rocket science to unite the party, it takes sincerity of purpose, commitment and determination to sacrifice our individual interests and ambitions for the greater good of the party. I confess that I’m glad to see that the healing process has just begun. It has been faster than anyone could have predicted. “Things are not falling apart, rather things are holding up. I am grateful to you all for standing by me and members of the NWC in seeing that we carry out the first order of business in our party and that is the total reconciliation of all the state branches of the APC.”

APC Chairman Reportedly Commits Suicide In Cell Of Anti-narcotics Agency, NSCDC

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ponyan Ward in the Yagba Council Area of Kogi State, Bunmi Ipinnaiye, has reportedly committed suicide in a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) cell. SaharaReporters gathered on Tuesday evening that Ipinnaiye, who was arrested by officials of the NSCDC for the attempted murder of his son, was found dead in his cell in the morning.

The deceased was said to have attempted to kill his son for fraternising with some boys who were allegedly involved in social vices. He reportedly attacked his son with a machete on their way to the farm and the incident was reported to the NSCDC, which led to his arrest. It was gathered that after his arrest, he did not cooperate with the NSCDC operatives during interrogation and was subsequently thrown into one of their cells. An official of the NSCDC, who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, said that when the operatives interrogating the suspect returned to his cell to resume the questioning, he was found dead. The officer said that APC ward chairman had used his belt to commit suicide by hanging himself. Efforts to confirm the incident from the Public Relations Officer of the state command of the NSCDC were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off. Also, at the time of filing this report, the state police command had yet to make an official statement on the matter. The command’s spokesman, SP William Aya could not be reached on his mobile line as it did not connect.
