E2%80%98errand-boys%E2%80%99-orders-arrest Bauchi Governor, Mohammed Turns Lawless DSS Operatives To ‘Errand Boys,’ Orders Arrest Of Students’ Leader Over Facebook Post

The Department of State Services in Bauchi State, acting on the orders of the state governor, Bala Mohammed, has arrested the President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students’ Association (NUBASS), Bauchi State University, Gadau Branch, Comrade Aminu Harsanu Guyaba over his Facebook post.
Guyaba had in a Facebook post had accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant of enriching himself and his family.

“We will explain to people how Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed enriches himself and his children while he left Bauchi citizens in abject poverty,” he had posted.
SaharaReporters learnt that the students’ leader was arrested by the DSS acting on the governor’s command last week.
He was subsequently arraigned without a lawyer to represent him at the Bauchi Magistrate Court II after he was forced to delete the Facebook post by the secret police.
The presiding judge had ordered him to be taken to prison and adjourned the matter to June 14, 2022, for continuation of hearing.
Guyaba had told the DSS that his Facebook account was hacked.
Despite this, the governor remained rattled by his post; insisting he would deal with him, a source said.
Meanwhile, the Association of Northern Nigerian Students, ANNS had issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Bauchi State Government to ensure the safe and unconditional release of Guyaba.
The students’ association vowed to massively protest his continued detention, arguing that the action taken against him was a clampdown on his right to freedom of expression.

Confusion As Ruling Party, APC Clears Attorney-General, Malami For Election, Despite Withdrawing From Governorship Race

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has been cleared by the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress to contest the 2023 Kebbi governorship election.
This is despite Malami’s withdrawal from the governorship race last week Friday.

SaharaReporters had two weeks ago exclusively reported that Malami, who declared interest to contest in the Kebbi governorship race last month, pulled out of the race for fear that he might not get the ticket.
Fearing that he might not get the ticket under the current circumstances, Malami was said to have changed his plan and pulled out of the governorship race.

BREAKING: Malami Withdraws From Kebbi Governorship, To Remain As Nigeria’s Justice Minister, Attorney-General

“He (Malami) actually pulled out of the race because he knows he can’t win without being the Attorney General,” a source had told SaharaReporters at that time.
However, a document seen by Peoples Gazette conveyed Malami’s clearance to run, stirring controversy in the political sphere since the AGF had already withdrawn his governorship ambition, in order to retain his ministerial appointment.
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week issued a directive ordering all political appointees to resign before contesting in the forthcoming general elections.
It is unclear if Malami had turned in his resignation to pursue his political quest in compliance with Buhari’s directive or if he was waiting for the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the contentious section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022.
A series of political appointees have sparked public outrage after they went against political norms to seek elective positions without resigning.
Also, there has been a cold political war between the incumbent governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, and the political arrowhead of Kebbi, Senator Adamu Aliero, over who succeeds the former.
While Bagudu, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), is rooting for Malami as his successor, Aliero, a two-term governor of the state, has Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi as his preferred candidate for the APC governorship ticket.

Abuja Chief Imam, Maqari Must Be Removed From Office, Prosecuted For Justifying Brutal Murder Of Deborah Samuel – Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has demanded that the Islamic authorities in the country remove Prof Ibrahim Maqari, the Deputy Chief Imam of Abuja’s National Mosque, for supporting the lynching of Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a Christian student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, by her colleagues.
Soyinka said on Saturday that Maqari should “be tried under any existing laws that approximate hate rhetoric, incitement to murder and abuse of office.”

About a week ago, Maqari had posted on Twitter, “It should be known to everyone that we the Muslims have some redlines beyond which MUST NOT be crossed. The dignity of the Prophet (PBUH) is at the forefront of the redlines.
“If our grievances are not properly addressed, then we should not be criticised for addressing them ourselves.”
The Nobel laureate noted that while the Sultanate of Sokoto had condemned the act, Maqari “implicitly directed his followers to take the law into their own hands in the name of religion, and in a nation beset on all sides by wars of ultra-nationalism.”
Soyinka stated these in his address, titled, “In Time of crisis: Civilian and soldier” which was delivered in Abuja at the launching of a memorial publication on the late Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff who died in 2021 in a plane crash.

Soyinka said, “No one will deny that we all owe a duty to the living, but some incline to the stance that such duty terminates with the living. Well, in my school of reflection and the testimony of history, that duty extends to death and beyond. That claim is grounded, not in mere sentiment, not in attachment to morbidity or unassuaged grief but in banal self-interest. For instance if, having failed to save Akaluka, having failed to rescue Oluwatosin, setting aside hundreds, possibly thousands of others, we had openly, justly and rigorously ensured justice in the crime that terminated their existences, we would not now be apologising to the late victim of such religion inspired barbarity – Ms. Deborah Samuel.
“Of course we are not all to be found within the same terrain of sensibilities – absolutely no! And that has been demonstrated most vividly by the very nature of responses that have been exacted after the nation’s recent exercise in human sacrifice. The nation’s president, traditional rulers – among them the Sultan of Sokoto who also serves as the Amir of Nigerian moslems, women organizations, workers’ unions and professionals from all walks of life, young and old, have raised their voices in accents of apology and condemnation. However a glorified cleric, no less than the Grand Vizier of the iconic Mosque of the nation’s capital, Abuja, has inserted a dissenting voice.
“The young woman, Deborah, he declared, deserved her death. This mullah, allegedly a man of learning, since his name is professorially captioned, says that there is a line, a red line that none of us must cross, no matter who we are, what we think, profess or value. Like the late Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, this mere mortal has declared himself a Supreme Being with the power of life and death over all the denizens of the world. His call is unambiguous. Professor Ibrahim Maqari has placed his myrmidons of faith on the alert, primed to emulate the example of these death dealing mutants of fanatic indoctrination.

“Professor Imam Ibrahim Maqari however insists, with a handful of others including a vocal serving policeman quite recently, that there is no remorse attached to the torture and lynching of a young student on this earth we all share. To anyone who cares to listen, Maqari has implicitly directed his followers to take the law into their own hands in the name of religion, and in a nation beset on all sides by wars of ultra-nationalism and religious fanaticism. That is the message of a supposedly holy man to youths, to us, his message to a nation embroiled in a madness of multiple insurgencies.
“If Professor Grand Imam Maqari can draw a line in blood, the rest of the community of equal rights must proceed to draw their own, but they will do so in less primitive, bloodthirsty mode, in full respect of human dignity.
“That apostate of the creed of humanity, Professor Maqari, must be removed from office. It is no longer sufficient for all to declaim that Islam is this and that, that the Sharia is thus and thus, that Prophet Mohammed set this or that example and made this or that humanistic pronouncement. We have gone beyond theocratic rhetoric that merely pays lip service to civilized norms. Let all pietistic denunciations be backed by affirmative action.
“The Grand Seer of Abuja mosque should be hounded from office. He should be tried under any existing laws that approximate hate rhetoric, incitement to murder and abuse of office.”

E2%80%93-anambra-governor-soludo Nnamdi Kanu Wished To Make Broadcast To His Supporters When We Met – Anambra Governor, Soludo Speaks On Visit

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, on Saturday, gave clarification on his visit to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, in the custody of Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services.
The governor said the person he met at the DSS was the real Nnamdi Kanu, dismissing reports that the pictures he took with him (Kanu), shared on social media, were a cloned picture of Kanu.

Soludo had visited the IPOB leader last Friday and posted the videos where Kanu was wearing a red shirt instead of the Fendi white outfit he usually wears to court.
The governor said his visitation to Kanu was in continuation of finding a lasting solution to peace in the South-East part of the country.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Christian Aburime, who spoke to PUNCH, on behalf of the governor, said Kanu even wanted if he was permitted to make a broadcast to all IPOB members and his supporters generally.
He said, “The people saying Soludo posted the video of a cloned Kanu are telling lies to deceive the people and the truth is obvious. Do you think a governor will want to get involved in that kind of frivolities by coming to tell the people that he met Kanu if he did not meet him?
“In essence, Soludo met with Kanu and not a cloned fellow of him. Everything is clear enough; you can see the governor and Kanu in the videos clearly; it was not something that is cloned as people are erroneously propagating now.
“On the reason he was wearing a red dress instead of the traditional white cloth that he wears to court is because the judge has directed that the DSS allows him access to any cloth he wants to wear and even allow him to watch television. So, on the day Soludo visited him, he was wearing a different cloth, people should not expect him to wear one type of cloth every day.
“He has the right to wear any type of cloth he wants to wear, especially as the judge has directed the DSS to allow him to change clothes.”
“The governor relates the outcome of the visit as follows: “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, (Friday, 13th May, 2022) to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South-East.

“He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere. He expressed sadness over what he described as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.
“He assured that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace. Together, we shall restore peace, security and prosperity in Anambra and the South-East.”

E2%80%99s-law-eviction-immigrants US Judge Bars President Biden From Reversing Trump’s Law On Eviction Of Immigrants

Joe Biden

A federal judge has opposed a move by the United States’ President, Joe Biden, to reverse Title 42, an immigration policy put in place by immediate past president, Donald Trump.
Title 42 was established in March 2020 to control the spread of the coronavirus across the country’s border. Under the policy, the US turned away migrants that arrived at its land borders without a chance to call for humanitarian protection.

Joe Biden

Recall that the controversial law was used to evict over a million migrants at the border during Trump’s administration.
On Friday, Judge Robert R. Summerhays of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana handed out a nationwide preliminary injunction instructing the administration to leave the law in effect until the lawsuit by 24 states, led by Arizona, Louisiana and Missouri, was decided in court.
In his 48-page decision, Summerhays wrote, “The court concludes that the public interest would be served by a preliminary injunction preventing the termination of the CDC’s Title 42 orders.”
He noted that lifting the order would directly increase the cost of healthcare and education as states would have to handle the arrival of a large number of new migrants.
White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said in a statement that the Biden administration would continue making preparations for the lift.
“As the appeal proceeds, the Department of Homeland Security will continue planning for the eventual lifting of Title 42 in light of CDC’s public health judgment, at which point anyone who attempts to enter the country unlawfully will be subject to Title 8 Expedited Removal proceedings if they do not have grounds to remain in the United States,” Ms Jean-Pierre said.

Former governor of Lagos State and presidential aspirant of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has told party delegates in Jigawa State that not everyone vying for the position will be president.Tinubu also appealed to the state governor, Muhammad Badaru, to give him some delegates for the coming party’s presidential primary election as an elder.

The former Lagos governor made the request on Friday while addressing APC delegates at Manpower Development Institute, Dutse, the state capital.“We are many vying for this ticket, I know my way, I know what I am running for; all of us cannot make the presidency,” Tinubu said.He begged the governor to consider his age and give him some delegates during their house primary election.“Tonight I come to beg you to at least give me some delegates so I can defeat Badaru and other aspirants,” he said.“You must have respect for seniors; I am your senior, therefore you must have respect for elders and give me some votes.”On his part, the governor said Tinubu had worked for the evolution of APC and its success in the country.“For those saying they are for Buhari, he is also Buhari because you can’t be more Buhari than him. Nobody knows the relationship; the link between Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari,” Badaru stated.
