UK Court Convicts Nigerian Involved In Romance Scam Targeting Over 670 People

A Nigerian man, Osagie Aigbonohan, was on Friday convicted by the Southwark Crown Court, United Kingdom over his involvement in a romance scam in which he conned several women out of thousands of pounds.
This was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Crime Agency.

The 40-year-old Nigerian was said to have used a number of aliases to contact women online through dating and social media sites, and in one case cheated a woman out of nearly £10,000 (about N7.5million at the parallel market).
According to the statement, Aigbonohan used the name ‘Tony Eden’, after which he struck up a ten-month relationship with the victim in 2020, via a dating site and persuaded her to lend him money to buy machinery for his business overseas.
The victim reportedly made nine transfers into various accounts operated by the Nigerian under fake identities, with the money eventually being sent into a personal account held by Aigbonohan, which he used for everyday spending.
Also, data recovered from Aigbonohan’s phone showed that he received money from at least eight other victims and had been in contact with over 670 people in total.
The statement said one of the victims was terminally ill, but Aigbonohan continued to pursue her even after she had passed away.
He was arrested in July 2021 and a false driver’s license was found on him at the time. Also it was discovered that he had no legal right to be in the UK, having overstayed his visa from two years ago.
Records showed that despite living in Abbey Wood, London, the Nigerian will spend victim’s money in locations across London, Manchester and Glasgow.
NCA officer’s conducted a search on the culprit’s residence where they found a footwear he had purchased with store vouchers that could be linked back to one of the victims.
Aigbonohan was said to have appeared before Southwark Crown Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to charges relating to fraud and money laundering.
He will remain in custody until he is sentenced at the same court on 14 January 2022.
Dominic Mugan, NCA Operations Manager, said: “Romance fraud is a particularly cruel crime that impacts victims both emotionally and financially, with victims often feeling like they’re the ones to blame.
“Aigbonohan showed total disregard for the victims in this case and was happy to commit further fraud by moving money between various fraudulently held accounts.
“It’s possible that he contacted more people than we know about, if you think you may have been a victim, or may be a victim in a similar case, we would urge you to report the details to Action Fraud.”

North Doesn’t Need Your Deceitful Kneeling, Begging For 2023 Presidency, Northern Groups Reply Ex-Anambra Governor, Ezeife

Chukwuemeka Ezeife

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has reacted to a recent comment made by a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, that the South-East is prepared to kneel or bow before every ethnic group to clinch the 2023 presidency.
The CNG described it as nothing but deception.

Chukwuemeka Ezeife

A statement by CNG’s Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said the Igbo have by their conduct, denied themselves the opportunity to be trusted with power in the near future.”The bitter truth is that no matter how low the Igbo are willing to go or how long they are willing to keep their knees on the ground, it will be unreasonable to expect other Nigerian tribes, not least the North, to risk entrusting the presidency in them.”It is said that once bitten, twice shy and the current northern thinking is beyond the repeated deceptions such as this one by the Igbo which at every turn, results in tragedy.”We see the recent belated desperation by the Igbo as nothing but an afterthought that is downright unacceptable. It is deceptive for them to make such overtures after having encouraged and supported Nnamdi Kanu (leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra – IPOB) and the atrocities committed against other Nigerians, particularly northerners by his IPOB.”If the Igbo must prostrate to anyone, they should prostrate to Kanu as the North has come of age and shall not be deceived or fooled any longer,” Suleiman said.Speaking at the United for Better Nigeria Initiative National Convention in Abuja on Saturday, Ezeife noted that one of the ways for a Southeasterner to become Nigeria’s President 2023 was for the region to swallow its pride and start begging other regions for the presidential seat.
“So I found Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and other groups in this place talking about the need for federal character. If you do it that way, there will be unity, if there is fairness, equity, justice, you will have unity and progress,” he said.
“In the absence of those, you see where we are now. It is not a matter of – to give us president, we don’t give, you have to work for it, the Igbo does not prostrate.
“The Igbo man does not kneel down but this time, we are prepared to kneel down to every part of Nigeria, every group, every ethnic group in Nigeria. We are prepared to even prostrate because we believe in this country.”

Dowen College: Late Senator Kashamu’s Family Confirms Their Boy Is One Of Alleged Bullies Who Killed Pupil, Reacts To Allegations

The family of Michael Adewale Kashamu, one of the students who allegedly tortured the late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni. Jnr, has called for calm.
In a statement issued by one Mutairu Kashamu, the family confirmed that Michael Kashamu is indeed the son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu who represented Ogun East in the 8th National Assembly.

However, the family noted that despite the late Sylvester’s claims, the ongoing cyber-bullying and name-calling will not help solve the pending issue as it pledged to cooperate with the government during the investigation.
The family stated that it has conducted a private enquiry and “carefully questioned” Michael about his involvement.
According to the family, their son had truly served as a school father of Sylvester during the last session but had been moved to a different floor in the boarding house in the new session, which affected their closeness.

Dowen College: My Son, Sylvester Cried ‘I Don’t Want To Die,’ Still Shed Tears After He Died— Father

The statement was titled, “Dowen College Student’s Death: Kashamu’s Family Empathizes With The Bereaved…Calls For Thorough Investigation.”
Though corroborating Sylvester’s father’s comment that the deceased was bullied during the last session, the family said their son was however not involved at all.
It also said their son, Michael Kashamu was not aware that a similar incident had occurred again this year, which led to Sylvester’s injury and death.
The statement reads, “The Kashamu family has been inundated with enquiries, calls and messages over the unfortunate incident at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, which led to the untimely death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old student of the College.
“While we empathize and commiserate with the family of the late Sylvester Oromoni over the irreplaceable loss, we wish to appeal to all and sundry to hold their horses until the Police and the Lagos State government have completed their independent investigations and established the truth.
“Most commentators have rushed to conclusions based on assumptions and false information, including the allegation that our son Adewale Michael Kashamu was in any way involved in the bullying or beating of Sylvester Oromoni.
”Since the news of the unfortunate incident broke, we have made our own private enquiries and carefully questioned our son about his involvement. This is why we did not rush out to respond to the cyber-stalking, name-calling and negative commentaries that have taken over the social media about our son’s alleged involvement in this sad incident.
”Some of the true facts now slowly emerging from under the mass of lies are that: Our son, Adewale Michael Kashamu, had acted as a school father for the late Sylvester in his first session in the school at the request of Sylvester’s sister who is also a student of the school.
“However, in the 2021 session commencing in September 2021 Adewale Michael Kashamu was moved to a different floor in the boarding house and engrossed in his own studies and activities, he was no longer as close to Sylvester as in the previous session.
”Adewale Michael Kashamu is a compassionate and considerate boy. Sometime last session, some boys had been accused of beating Sylvester with belts and seizing his foodstuff but Adewale Michael Kashamu was not involved at all. He was in fact in sympathy with Sylvester over that incident.
“On that occasion, Sylvester’s parents made a report to the school and the affected students were questioned and one of them at least was suspended.
“Adewale Michael Kashamu is not aware that an identical incident occurred again this year leading to Sylvester’s injury and death.
“Adewale Michael Kashamu had seen Sylvester limping sometime late in November and (assuming he might have been injured playing football) merely empathized with him and advised him to go to the school clinic.
”Other students who knew the circumstances of Sylvester’s leg injury have all testified that he was injured whilst playing football.
“Whilst he was in school, Sylvester had no visible injury to his lips or face. Sylvester’s family has admitted that Sylvester’s swollen, blistered and bloody lips (as shown in videos and pictures, now viral on the internet) were reactions to medications given to Sylvester after he had been taken from the school by his parents.
“We feel and can relate to the pains of the Oromoni family and all those genuinely concerned about this unfortunate incident. That is why we wish to express our readiness to cooperate with the parents of the deceased, the Police, the Lagos State government and other relevant stakeholders to get to the root of this matter so that the cause of justice will not only be served but manifestly seen to have been served.
“However, it is regrettable that of the five names that were mentioned in relation to the incident, it is only Kashamu’s name that seems to ring a bell. Consequently, the family and its late patriarch (Senator Buruji Kashamu of blessed memory) have been the butt of irresponsible, falsehood-based and unwarranted attacks even when the full details of the incident are not yet known.
”There is no denying the fact that Adewale Michael Kashamu is one of the children of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu. But, no family or parent will send a child to school to be involved in any form of crime or criminality; just like no parent would be happy to be informed that a child he or she sent to school to learn has been molested or killed under any guise.
”That is why we wish to appeal for restraint on all sides. The cyber-bullying of our family will not help in any way to solve the bullying in schools that society through the ages has desired to stop.
”The larger society should start by setting a higher standard.
“We reckon that the bereaved family has related the account of the incident as narrated by the deceased.
“On our part, we have continued to engage our son, Adewale Michael Kashamu, and he has continued to maintain his innocence.
“Now that the Lagos State government and the Police have waded into the matter, we shall fully cooperate with them so that the truth will be established and the cause of justice served – justice for the deceased and his family, justice for the accused students and their families and justice for the society.
“At this juncture, we want to encourage the management, parents and pupils of Dowen College (and indeed anyone) who may have useful information about this incident to please volunteer same to the Police and the Lagos State government – in the interest of justice.”

E2%80%94 Dowen College: My Son, Sylvester Cried ‘I Don’t Want To Die,’ Still Shed Tears After He Died— Father

Sylvester Oromoni, father of the late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Lagos says his son desperately wanted to live as he was on his death bed.
The grieving dad stated this during an interview with Arise TV on Sunday.

He said his son had screamed, “I don’t want to die,” before giving up the ghost.
He said even after death, his son was still shedding tears.
Oromoni said the only time the Principal of the school called the family, while the boy was dying and even after his death, it was to ask them why they posted a video of a dying Sylvester online.
“I told the woman, I read your statement that my boy died as a result of a football injury, if football can injure someone’s mouth, and make one to be in so much pain, I think the government should look at the situation the boy passed through. When he was about to give up, he cried and said, ‘I don’t want to die!’ Even after he died and cotton wool was already in his nose, tears were still coming out of his eyes,” the grieving father said.
The death of the 12-year-old has generated public outcry, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the young boy.
Others called on parents to withdraw their children from the school following the incident.
The school in its reaction to the incident claimed that the deceased sustained injuries while playing football and was given immediate medical attention by its resident nurse.
Subsequently, the student complained of having pains in his hip and was attended to again by a doctor and nurse and thereafter taken to his house, the school said.
The victim’s cousin released photos and video evidence, showing Sylvester was beaten, leading to his death.
A video shared by the family of the boy before his death showed him in pain.
The deceased was also said to have been forced to drink an unknown substance by the bullies.
The father of the late pupil had alleged that the parents of pupils responsible for torturing his son had made arrangements for them to fly out of the country.
On Saturday, despite the boy’s death, his parents and other family members marked his birthday.
According to them, it was the best way to honour him and keep his memory alive.
The move by the family caught the attention of Nigerians, who have continued to offer words of support to the victim’s parents over his demise.

Father Of 12-Year-Old Boy Allegedly Killed By Colleagues Says Dowen College Hasn’t Called Since Son’s Death

Sylvester Oromoni, father of the late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Lagos says the school authorities have not called the family since the boy’s death.
The grieving dad stated this during an interview with Arise TV on Sunday.

Oromoni said the school management had yet to contact the family directly either to offer condolence messages or have any meaningful conversation except when the Principal called to challenge him on why he made public, videos of Sylvester (Jnr) on the hospital bed.
He said, “Let me tell you something, when this incident happened until we brought this boy home till the day he died, nobody called us, the principal did not call, the house masters did not call.
“We were the ones that called, it was only one teacher, JSS1 teacher, I don’t know the name of the teacher, that was the only person who called just to check up on the boy, even his JSS 2 teacher, nobody called.
“As I’m speaking to you, up until today, the owner of the school has not even called. The only time the principal called me was to ask me why the family shared the photos and videos of Sylvester passing through pain, that why did I share those pictures with the public, that the boy is a very handsome boy, that anyone that sees the pictures will be scared, that she was also scared when she saw the pictures.
“I told her ‘Madam, you have children, I read your press statement, you are not telling people the truth, I need thorough investigation, you also have children’. I sent her a text when the boy died that I want a thorough investigation, after all, she has a child.
“I told the woman I read your statement that my boy died as a result of a football injury, if football can injure someone’s mouth, and make one to be in so much pain, I think the government should look at the situation the boy passed through. When he was about to give up, he cried and said, ‘I don’t want to die!’ Even after he died and cotton wool was already in his nose, tears were still coming out of his eyes.”

Lagos Government Uploads Official Copy Of #EndSARS Panel Report Online

The Lagos State Government, on Sunday, announced the release of the report of the #EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry on police brutality and related matters on its website.
The Certified True Copy of the reports of the panel which probed the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate was uploaded to the state’s justice ministry website, NAN reports.

“Members of the public can view and download the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the documents on the website of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice – ” Attorney General Moyosore Onigbanjo said in a statement.
Onigbanjo, who is also the state’s Commissioner for Justice, said the reports are entitled ”Report of Lekki Incident Investigation on 20th October 2021” and ”Consolidated Report on General Police Brutality”.
He advised the public to write to his office for further enquiries.
“Further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice through info@lagosstatemoj.org,” Onigbanjo said.
Some weeks ago, the panel submitted the report to the Lagos State Government, in which it clearly found that the Nigerian Army and police fired live bullets at peaceful protesters at the Lekki Tollgate last year.
It also concluded that the “deliberate absence of officers of the Nigerian Army who were present at the Lekki Toll Gate and who were summoned by the Panel was a calculated attempt to conceal material evidence from the Panel”.
The panel was inaugurated on October 19, 2020, to look into complaints of citizens against human rights abuses by the police.
Following the incident at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020, the Terms of Reference of the Panel was expanded to cover that incident.
The Panel sat for well over one year and took testimonies of petitioners, witnesses, experts and lawyers.
The submission of the panel that there was indeed a massacre has since attracted public outrage, with Nigerians and the international community calling for the prosecution of the offending officers.

BREAKING: Secret Police, DSS Invite Ex-Kogi Commissioner Over Comment On Sheikh Gumi’s Visit To Okunland

A former commissioner for education in Kogi State, Oluwayomi David Atte, has revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) invited him over his recent comment on the visit of Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to Okun land.
According to him, the secret police asked him to show up at its office in Lokoja, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Atte said his decision to inform the public about the invitation was to keep people abreast of happenings, given the DSS’s record of hounding those with views that oppose the President Muhammadu-led administration.
Buttressing his point, the ex-commissioner recalled the experience of Obadiah Mailafia, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), who died not long after his encounter with the DSS.
Atte wondered why the DSS did not invite Gumi, who has been holding meetings with armed bandits and foreign Fulanis in various states across the country.
The former commissioner said the secret police and other security agencies ought to have dissipated similar energy they are using to invite him to deal with issues raised and tackle the insecurity in Okun land.
Atte recounted that in the past few years, Fulani people from foreign countries have taken over several communities in the state, killing people and displacing several others.
The former commissioner said his comment on Gumi’s visit to meet with foreign Fulani in the state was based on grapevine sources.
He said: “I have been invited to the DSS State office in Lokoja slated for Tuesday, 7th December 2021 at 10 am
“The DSS has not formally accused or charged me for anything. The issue of my statements about Gumi’s visit to Okunland and our insistence that we need to rise and defend ourselves came from the grapevine.
“I made the decision to inform Okun people and relevant stakeholders of the invitation by the DSS as a precautionary measure. The nation is not as it used to be, and organs of government in Nigeria tend to show more loyalty to regimes than to the Constitution and the People.
“They have shown over and over that the survival of a regime is paramount to them, hence, the lives and welfare of citizens of Nigeria have become secondary. So anybody, perceived to even just think differently from the powers they serve, can be wasted or destroyed in the line of duty of security forces. Fresh in my memory is the hounding of my personal friend, the late Obadiah Mailafia, by security agents, soon after which he died.
“Could this happen to me? Possibly, but not necessarily. With Nigeria’s security agencies, one can no longer be sure.So I decided to let stakeholders know, just to be aware that they asked me to come.
“Since I have not been charged or accused, please let us keep calm and hear what they say. It has to concern what Okun People say about their safety and welfare, which I echo.
“Okun People have lived peacefully with Fulanis for generations. In the last six years, an influx of foreign Fulani into Okunland has taken place with disastrous consequences for our People. We watched with bated breath as they swept through Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, leaving behind a trail of bloodshed, massacres, destruction of farms, properties and communities. It is in public view that no concerted effort to stop them was made by the government.
“Then they came into Kogi and Southern Nigeria causing unprecedented insecurity. In Okun land, many areas have been occupied illegally by foreign Fulani, (foreign to us and Nigeria. We encountered them in Okun land and they confessed to coming from Mali in one instance). They have settled on our land, without our permission. From there they kill our people, machete them on their farms, destroy their crops, kidnap them and make us pay a ransom.
“Our land is unsafe to move about. Chief Osadumo is dead, kidnapped from a church. Hon. Serebe was shot dead by Fulanis on the farm, a vigilante officer was shot and killed near Okedayo. Our Commissioner Omofaiye was shot and Fulanis kidnapped people in Ikoyi last week. The last three regained freedom three days ago after ransom was paid for them.
“Last Thursday, Elder Ologun was shot dead in Mopa. Widows and farmers have been driven from the farms in Okun land by Fulanis. These are just a few samples. Our very peaceful life in Okun land has been disrupted. On top of all these, Sheikh Gumi came on a solidarity visit to the Fulani people in Okun land who are illegal occupiers of our land. He did not visit our key traditional rulers. Who can do that in the North? It was a slap on our face and a declaration that they can do what they want on our land.
“Now the numerous statements of Gumi about bandits, his clear sentiments of support for bandits, visiting them in their secret camps and taking photographs with them, heavily armed, are all in the public domain for Nigerians to see. And the government gives him free rein. Which community in Nigeria hears that Gumi is coming to visit Fulani (or bandits?) in their area that will not be alarmed?”
The former commissioner said if opportuned during his visit to the DSS office, he would ask probing questions about his invitation and the secret police’s seeming support of Gumi.
He added: “Which is of more concern to them, the suffering, killing, kidnapping and destruction of Okun people’s means of livelihood or their discomfort that we complained of being unprotected by the government we elected?
“Is the protection of Gumi’s image more important to the government than the safety of Okun People?
“In all the deaths, injuries, kidnappings, etc. inflicted on Okun People in the last 6 years, where were the Police and DSS to help rescue and defend our People?
“Will the security agencies in the State and each local government area say they do not know where the killer and kidnapping Fulanis are? Have they sought information from the communities and have they acted on such information to thwart killings, kidnappings or even rescued the kidnapped in Okun land?Answers to these questions will shed light on the priorities of our security agencies who are charged with protecting us.”

Christian Union, CAN To File Fresh Charges Against Nigerian Government Over Controversial Act

CAN President, Samson Ayokunle.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) says it will file a fresh suit against the Nigerian Government to prevent the implementation of certain provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.
The Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2020.

CAN President, Samson Ayokunle.

Also, the leadership of CAN has called for mass prayers as they take the government up in a new legal battle.
CAN had filed the suit following its last year’s rejection of the CAMA 2020, especially as it applies to the regulatory roles the law gave the registrar of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister over churches.
The judge, Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, dismissed the suit over the failure of the plaintiff to comply with the law in the name used in filing the originating summons.
“Therefore, this application lacks merit and ought to be dismissed and I hereby make an order dismissing same,” he ruled.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while the incorporated trustees of the CAN is the plaintiff in the suit, the CAC and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment are the 1st and 2nd defendants, respectively.
The plaintiff, in an originating summons, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/244/2021, had prayed the court to determine “whether Section 839, subsections (1), (7) (a) and (10) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, is inconsistent with Sections 4(8), 6(6)(b) and 40 of the Nigerian constitution which guarantees the plaintiff’s right to freedom of association and the right to seek redress in court”.
It also urged the court to determine whether the provisions of Section 854 of the CAMA are inconsistent with section 39 of the Nigerian constitution which guarantees the right to freedom of expression.
However, during the proceedings, CAN brought an application, praying for an order to amend the originating summons and accompanying processes by replacing the word, “INCORPORATED” with “REGISTERED” in the name of the plaintiff in the suit such that it would read, “The Registered Trustees of the Christian Association of Nigeria.”
The application was filed on the grounds that the name expressed in its certificate of incorporation is the “Registered Trustees of the Christian Association of Nigeria” and not “Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria.”
Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that suing in the wrong name contrary to a statutory provision is statutory non-compliance and is not a mere misnomer to be corrected by the Court, as the court cannot re-write statutory provisions. Consequently, the suit was struck out.
But on Sunday, CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, said the organisation would not like to join issues with the Court by going on appeal, because “it would further delay the case.”
Accordingly, he said the religious body has decided to take the option of refiling the case.
“Our lawyers are currently preparing to institute a fresh suit using the proper name of the Plaintiff (CAN) as it is on the Certificate of Incorporation. This is the truth of the matter now.
“What happened in the court was just a temporary setback and by the grace of God, we have overcome it. Our prayers are for the unborn generations and nothing will discourage us from pursuing this case to the logical conclusion,” Daramola stated.
Amongst other reliefs, CAN would be asking the Court to determine “whether Section 839, subsections (1), (7) (a) and (10) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, is inconsistent with Sections 4(8), 6(6)(b) and 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which guarantees the plaintiff’s right to freedom of association and the right to seek redress in court.
“Whether the provision of Section 854 of the CAMA is inconsistent with Section 39 of the CFRN which guarantees the right to freedom of expression.”
It would also be seeking: “An order striking down Sections 839(1), (7) (a) & (10), 842(1) and (2), 843, 851 and 854 of the CAMA for being unconstitutional.
“A declaration that Section 17(2) (a) & (d) of the CAMA demand an impossible and impracticable action; thus, void.
“An Order striking down Section 17 (2) (a) & (d) of the CAMA for being impracticable and unknown to Law.”

Northern Groups Demand Sacking of National Security Adviser, Monguno Over Insecurity, Threaten Massive Protests

Babagana Monguno

A coalition of Northern youth groups under the aegis of Northern Ethnic Group Assembly (NEYGA) has asked the Nigerian government to stop the massive killing of people and raiding of communities in the North by bandits and Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Spokesperson for the umbrella body, Mr Ibrahim Dan-Musa, said the call had become necessary over the worsening state of insecurity in the North.

Babagana Monguno

He decried the unending killings in the North while calling on the Northern elite to speak out.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna, the group decried the deplorable security situation in the North and demanded the immediate removal of the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd).
It lamented the inability of people from Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna and other parts of the country to access the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to incessant kidnappings by the bandits on highways.
The coalition called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle insecurity and stop the maiming and destruction of lives and property respectively. The group, in its statement, gave a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian government to stop killings in the North, warning that it would be left with no option but to mobilise citizens for protests until the government is shut down.
The group lamented that five years into President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the security situation has continued to escalate, leading to massive killings and destructions.
Dan-Musa also noted that with the removal of service chiefs and changes in the police hierarchy, the only office that needs to be rejigged now is the NSA office under retired Major General Monguno.
It said Buhari had failed Nigerians who gave him massive support, believing that as a retired military General, he could tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country.
“It is on a sad note that this coalition wishes to remind the federal government and government at all levels, that the primary responsibility of government anywhere, particularly the one that was democratically elected by voters, is to protect the lives and property of citizens.
“Alas, five years into President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, instead of reducing insecurity, it has escalated, thereby exposing great numbers of our people to avoidable deaths and loss of property in a manner that history has never witnessed before.
“As patriotic citizens, it is our constitutional duty to raise voices and call attention to the killings that are taking place across the states of the Northern region on a daily basis and mobilise citizens on how to constructively engage government at all levels and make demands to end the killings.
“The group is saying enough is enough and an end must be put to the mindless killing of our people particularly in the villages, and the non-challant attitude displayed by government and its agencies to the plights of people going through horrific experience in the hands of criminals that seemed to have overwhelmed our security agencies,” it stated.
Calling on the President to relieve the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Monguno retd of his appointment immediately, NEYGA said, “We restate unequivocally that Monguno has failed to provide useful advice to address the scourging insecurity in the country and therefore does not deserve continuous stay in office.
“As a pro-Northern group, we have found it very important to call on President Buhari to remove the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd), whose office and responsibilities are critical to the achievement of comprehensive security all over the country but hasn’t used the high esteem of his office in any productive ways since his appointment as NSA.
‘The reason for this call is not farfetched. We believe that Maj. Gen. Monguno was part of the gross failure associated with the tenure of the former security chiefs and his continued presence in office will make the success Buhari intended to achieve with the changes very difficult, if not completely impossible.”

On Saturday, Nigeria was added by the United Kingdom to a red list over Omicron, a variant of Coronavirus.
Following the latest development, all international arrivals to the UK will now be required to take pre-departure COVID-19 tests, the Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, said on Saturday.
UK citizens and residents will be able to enter the country from Nigeria but they will have to pay to stay in quarantine for 10 days.
The change starts from 4:00 am on Monday, according to Javid.
“Nigeria is second only to South Africa for cases linked to Omicron,” he had said.
Meanwhile, a statement from the British High Commission in Nigeria reads, “To support the UK Government’s aim to protect public health from COVID-19 and associated variants of concern (VOC), UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) will pause making decisions on visitor visa applications in all red list countries, including Nigeria, until travel restrictions are lifted. Visit visas cover travel to the UK for:
“Tourism; Visiting family and friends; Undertaking short-term business activities (for example, attending meetings); Undertaking short-term studies (under 6 months); Taking part in research or exchange programmes as an academic; Medical reasons (for example, receiving private medical treatment)
”If you apply for a visit visa in a red list country and you meet the UK Immigration Rules, your application will be paused. You will not receive a decision on your visit visa application whilst red list travel restrictions remain in place.
“You will not be able to request a refund of your visa fee once you have given your biometrics at a Visa Application Centre (VAC)
”If you already hold a valid visit visa and are intending to travel to England as a visitor from a red list country, you will not be allowed to enter. Separate guidance is available for travellers entering Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. See and br /> “Only where there are compelling and compassionate circumstances will visit visas be issued or entry permitted to visit England from a red list country whilst travel restrictions remain in place. There are only very limited exemptions to travel and entry requirements for critical workers and medical and compassionate cases.
“Further information on how to raise compassionate grounds when making an application can be found here: and-temporary-uk-residents#outside-uk
“If you have submitted a visit visa application and you do not wish to withdraw, we will continue to hold your application.
“If you choose to continue with your visa application, you will not receive a decision on your visit visa whilst red list travel restrictions remain in place.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
