Shiites Leader, El-Zakzaky Denies Links To Alleged Presidential Ambition Of Ex-Kano Governor, Kwankwaso

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise called Shiites, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky has denied having political ambition.
A statement signed by the Vice president, Media Forum of the group, Abdullahi Usman on Wednesday also dismissed as false, claims made on posters linking the cleric to the Presidential ambition of a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to the group, El-Zakzaky has no interest in contesting or seeking any political position.
The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a poster linking Sheikh Zakzaky to the presidential ambition of former Governor of Kano state, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“This is the handiwork of some mischievous people to further their sinister motives.
“The fact that Sheikh Zakzaky is a respected Islamic scholar and Sen. Kwankwaso a well-known politician is enough in itself to show the folly of those behind this illogical contraption.
“Sheikh Zakzaky will never contest any political positions in Nigeria. Though as a Nigerian he has the right to do so, he is an Islamic scholar and will never belong to any political party.
“We call on all and sundry to disregard that poster that hasn’t the blessings of the Sheikh and the politician.”

E2%80%94party-spokesman Victory Is Sure Against Impostors In African Action Congress With Adjournment Of Appeal—Party Spokesman

The African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed confidence in an appeal filed by the National Chairman of the party, Omoyele Sowore against a judgment delivered by a Federal High Court Abuja on the leadership of the party.
Sowore is asking the Appeal Court to set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo which declared Leonard Nzenwa as Acting National Chairman on the ground of lack of jurisdiction, breach of fair hearing and improper evaluation of evidence.

The AAC, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Femi Adeyeye on Wednesday described the declaration of Nzenwa as Acting National Chairman of the party as illegality.
The statement read, “The African Action Congress (AAC) wishes to inform all members and the public of its appeal against the furtherance of illegality under the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which came up for hearing today November 10, 2021, at the Court of Appeal, Abuja.
“As a party that believes in democratic tenets and the principles of separation of power, we have approached the Court for a redress of a ruling against the order of leadership which was sponsored by some disgruntled and fraudulent elements who were expelled from the party through constitutional and democratic means.
“The National Legal Adviser, Inibehe Effiong (Esq.) while addressing the press today made it clear that victory is at sight and that neither of the defendants (Leonard and INEC) has filed a counter-argument to the appeal.

“However, we also wish to state that we are not oblivious of the oppressive and exploitative system we are up against, whose judicial mills grind slowly when it concerns pro-people political alternatives such as ours. But the mill gets overtly energized when it concerns those who have ruined our space and have cornered our resources for the solidification of their political hegemony. When it concerns them, the judiciary can have ‘day and night shifts’, as experienced in many cases of the APC (All Progressives Congress) and PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). We demand that our matter be given a speedy hearing for the sake of justice.
“The National Working Committee of the party led by Mr Omoyele Sowore is confident that the imposters who are mere willful tools in the hands of our oppressors would soon run out of gas, as the people of Nigeria are mobilized against their agenda.
“Onward to victory.”
At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday, Effiong moved an application to amend the Notice of Appeal and Brief of Argument. He said the application was filed on October 14, 2021, just as he moved for the withdrawal of the one filed on 7th July 2020.
The application was not objected to by the counsel for the 1st respondent, Obed Agu. INEC which is the 2nd respondent was not represented in the court.
After the submissions by the parties in the matter, the three-man panel headed by Justice A.J. Adah, therefore, granted the prayer as requested by Inibehe, struck out the earlier application and granted the fresh application.
He thereafter adjourned the case to February 22, 2022, for the hearing of the appeal.

26 Years After Execution Of Activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, 8 Others, No Justice Yet In Niger Delta—Amnesty International

Ken Saro-Wiwa

Global human rights advocacy group, Amnesty International has said there is no justice yet in Ogoniland and the rest of the oil-rich Niger Delta since the execution of human rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others 26 years ago by the military government of Gen. Sani Abacha.
Known as Ogoni Nine, the activists were executed by the then military government of the late Abacha.

Ken Saro-Wiwa

Saro-Wiwa and the others fought the government and oil companies over environmental degradation in their region.
They were tried and hanged after a special military tribunal found them guilty for allegedly killing some Ogoni chiefs at a pro-government meeting.A statement by Isa Sanusi, Media Manager, Amnesty International Nigeria on Wednesday, remembered the Ogoni Nine 26 years after their execution.
It said it was to “mark 26 years since the murder of writer and human rights activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, Dr Barinem Kiobel and seven other men, collectively known as the Ogoni Nine by the then military government of the late General Sani Abacha”.
The statement quoted Osai Ojigho, Director, Amnesty International Nigeria as saying, “Twenty-six years after the murder of Ogoni Nine the oil producing communities of Ogoniland and other parts of the Niger-Delta region are yet to get justice for years of hundreds of oil spills that have devastated people’s livelihoods, health, and access to clean water and food. This continues to demonstrate the failure of successive Nigerian authorities to respect and uphold national and international human rights obligations.
“Years after clean up began in areas polluted by oil companies, as recommended by the United Nations Environment Porgramme (UNEP), the response has been slow and insufficient, as vast areas remain heavily contaminated and dangerous to the livelihood of the people of the region.”
“Nigerian authorities must use this moment to take actions that will ensure justice for the people of the Niger Delta and for the Ogoni Nine. The Ogoni Nine and their families deserve justice now, as they were executed following a trial that was blatantly unfair.”
“The people of the Niger Delta region must be protected from appalling level of pollution and other environmental injustice. Authorities must establish safeguards to ensure that oil companies act responsibly and can be held to account.”
“Nigerian authorities must also effectively implement the 2012 judgment by the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which unanimously found the Nigerian government responsible for abuses by oil companies and made it clear that the government must hold the companies and other perpetrators to account.”
“The time has come for the Nigerian government to stand up to powerful oil companies that have abused the human rights of the people of the Niger Delta with impunity for decades.”

Sowore Leads Protest To National Assembly, Demands Exoneration of Ken Saro-Wiwa, 8 Other Ogoni Activists Murdered By Abacha

A human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, on Wednesday, led protesters to the National Assembly, Abuja to demand the exoneration of Ogoni leaders:  the late Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others who were hanged on November 10, 1995 by the late dictator, Sani Abacha.
Saro-Wiwa, a renowned playwright and environmental activist, was executed alongside eight others for fighting for the rights of the Ogoni people.

He urged the National Assembly and President Muhammadu Buhari to exonerate the activists, adding that they committed no offense against the Nigerian state.
Some of the inscriptions on the protesters’ placards read: “Exonerate Ken Saro-Wiwa and 8 Ogoni Activists Murdered By Abacha”; “They Committed No Offence.”

Sowore said, “They tried him for the offense he has not committed. He was not granted a chance to have a free and fair trial. It was a Kangaroo tribunal set up by the military regime.
“We are here to remind his killers that he never died and secondly, to remind the man who is in charge of Nigeria right now–Muhammadu Buhari that he needs to completely remove that trial from the record and exonerate this innocent man and eight other Ogoni activists.
“After he was killed, they poured acid on his body and buried him in an unknown grave in PorthHacourt. The saddest part is that those who participated and connived in killing him are getting promotions in Nigeria today.
“People like Ahmed Ali, who is now Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service. He was one of the judges who sat in that Kangaroo tribunal; people like a former Chief Judge, Ibrahim Aura– he was also one of those that participated in this infamous killing of Ken Saro-Wiwa; a  former President of Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA ), J.B Dawodu. He was the prosecutor of the man who committed no offense.”
“They asked us if we have letters to submit but we told them that we don’t have any letters. Our letter is ‘history’. If they don’t know what it is, they should just google and search for what happened to Ken Saro-Wiwa.”
Sowore said the exoneration of Saro-Wiwa would assuage the agonizing memories of the sad events in the hearts of their families, the Ogoni people, and the entire Niger Delta people as well as lovers of truth, justice, and peace across the world.

The motorcyclist, whose identity has not been revealed, refused to purchase the ticket with the excuse that he did not have N100.
According to eyewitnesses, the revenue collector and motorcyclist engaged in a brawl which drew the attention of two other revenue collectors to the scene.
Sources said the revenue collectors beat up the motorcyclist. When he retaliated, one of them gave the motorcyclist a blow. He fell flat on the ground.
An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Oluwaseun, said the revenue collector might have used a ring to punch the motorcyclist.
Lamenting the incessant harassment of motorists by revenue collectors in the state, Oluwaseun said, “The government should do something about all these revenue collectors.”

Speaking with journalists, Fein said, “I will petition the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in Geneva, the International Court of Justice in the Hague. I’ll be going to the United States Congress. I urge that sanctions be considered against Nigeria for gross violations of fundamental human rights.”
He added, “Today is the fifth time I was told I could not enter the courtroom despite the court’s previous order that Nnamdi can have access to any three persons he wants to.
“I had the chance to talk briefly to him on my way to the courtroom. It is clear that I am the target in particular. That’s the reason why this proceeding did not transpire today.
“I’m here to tell Nigerians and the international community that I’m taking this to the international tribunals. It is clear that the Nigerian tribunals are compromised.”
