E2%80%99s-suit-seeking-referendum-south-east-region Court Adjourns Northern Group’s Suit Seeking Referendum For South-East Region

A Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday adjourned a suit filed by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) seeking a referendum to allow the South-East region to form Biafra as well as freedom for other self-determination agitations.CNG had, in June 2021, sued the National Assembly, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, asking the court to compel the defendants to halt the ongoing constitutional review exercise and in its place, conduct a referendum to determine Nigeria and its composition.

Speaking after the adjournment, the spokesperson of the CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, told reporters that the court could not sit and the suit was subsequently adjourned to January 20, 2022.

The suit, filed by the plaintiffs and leaders of the group, Nastura Ashir Shariff, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, Balarabe Rufa’i and Aminu Adam, joined the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the National Assembly as defendants. The CNG said instead of constitutional review, the defendants should immediately provide a framework for the actualisation of agitators’ demand on self-determination. “One of the issues for determination in the substantive suit has to do with the legal obligation of the 2nd – 4th defendants/Respondents to provide a framework that will pave the way for the self-determination of the South-eastern states and any other enclave that wants to go so as to leave the geographical entity called Nigeria before any further step is taken to review the Constitution,” Suleiman said.

BREAKING: Nigeria’s Broadcasting Commission Invites Workers Of Plateau-based Radio Station For Questioning Over ‘Presentation Of Programmes’

Six members of staff of Jodaj Global Communications Limited, owners of a Jos-based radio station, Jay 101.9 FM, have been invited for questioning by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over the presentation of some programmes.
Jos is the capital of Plateau State, in North Central Nigeria.

The invitation, scheduled for Tuesday is said to have been arranged to deal with some issues bordering on current affairs as the 2023 general elections draw closer.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the chief executive officer of the media house, obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday.
According to the letter signed by Nari Rikoto on behalf of the NBC Zonal Coordinator, the workers called for questioning are Pedro Omobolaji, Ponsak Fanap, Humphry, Osama Akpononu, Opeyemi and Zoe Machunga.
The letter read, “The Management of the National Broadcasting Commission, Jos Zone wishes to invite the following Staff of your station to a meeting.
1. Mr Pedro Omobolaji, Head of Station
2. Mr Ponsak Fanap
3. Mr Humphry
4. Mr Osama Akpononu
5. Mr Opeyemi
6. Miss Zoe Machunga
“The meeting is scheduled as follows:
“Date: 2nd November, 2021
“Time: 2:00 pm Prompt
“NBC Zonal Office, 7 Yakubu Gowon Way, Jos, Plateau State.
“The meeting is to address some issues pertaining (to) presentation of programmes as well as other Current Affairs as we are approaching the 2023 General Elections.
“The Zonal Director will be glad to have you at the meeting.”

NBC has been overreaching recently, threatening stations over programmes that seem to expose the failures of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
For instance, in May, NBC directed Channels TV and Inspiration FM Lagos to pay a fine N5 million each for infractions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
Armstrong Idachaba, the acting director-general of the commission, announced this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Idachaba explained that the NBC on Monday, April 26, served Channels TV a letter indicating the station’s culpability and liability for infractions of the Code in respect to its broadcast of “Politics Today” of Sunday, April 25.
He added that the station violated Sections 3.11.1(b) and 5.4.3 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
Similarly, Idachaba said that on May 2, in its World Report, Inspiration FM Lagos aired a broadcast of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) making secessionist claims in breach of 3.11.1(b) and 5.4.3 of the Code.
He said Channels TV and Inspirational FM broadcast secessionist, divisive, violent and inflammatory comments.

Another document dated 13 of August 2021 reads: “Barr. Ogboji A Emmanuel, Male, Christian, a Citizen of Nigeria of No. 30B, Juliana Ibeyem plaza Opebi road, Ikeja, Lagos, do hereby make Oath and state as follows: That I am the above-named person whose passport photograph is attached herein.
“That I am the Solicitor representing the 3rd and 4th Defendants in this suit and by virtue of the position, I am conversant with the facts of this case. That Nigerian Ports Authority that instructed me to defend the 3rd and 4th Defendant has informed me that the Attorney General of the Federation has intervened in the suit.
“That the Attorney General and Minister of Justice being the Law Officer of the Federation, I have to withdraw from the Suit. That the Defendants will not be prejudiced by this application. I depose to this affidavit in good faith believing same to be true and in accordance with the Oath Act.”
In May, Buhari removed Hadiza for no stated reason, but at the heart of Usman’s suspension is a Cargo Tracking Note (CTN) contract given out to a Lebanese syndicate by top government officials.
Further investigations revealed that the controversial CTN contract was prepared for the Lebanese proxies by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi alongside Malami to rake in money into their coffers.

EXCLUSIVE: Audit Report Exposes N18 billion Fraudulent Expenditure Under Suspended NPA MD, Hadiza Usman In 2017

SaharaReporters had reported that the top government officials also got President Muhammadu Buhari to buy into their deal, which is under the NPA jurisdiction, to swindle the country and its ailing economy.
On March 21, the President announced that he had directed Amaechi to reintroduce the CTN, citing the “increase in banditry across the nation and ideas to beef up security in the country.”
Buhari had been cajoled that the CTN contract would play a crucial role in enabling the nation address the growing spate of insecurity around cargo handling, according to top sources.
A competent source had said, “Malami and the Senate President are behind the deal. Finally, they awarded it to a Lebanese. It is 100% confirmed because they even wanted us to do the contract. But when we realised they were interested in looting, we backed out.
“The Lebanese man will be giving them $300,000 monthly. That was one of the reasons behind Usman’s removal. It was a contract on container tracking. But there is still rivalry in the whole contract; there is the Amaechi camp on one side as well as Malami and Senate President on the other side.”
Also, it was gathered that Usman lied to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Malami (SAN), and the Senate about the recommendations of a committee she had set up to investigate the dredging project at the Calabar Port.
Usman had reportedly lied that dredging the Calabar Port was not viable whereas the report of the committee indeed proved that work had commenced at Calabar Port and that it was viable, but Usman ignored the report of the committee and insisted that the job must be stopped.
Sources privy to the issue said Usman took the position because he wanted the job for her cronies and not a neutral company.
Another document obtained by this newspaper showed that the NPA’s budget audit report has again uncovered how over N18 billion expenditure could not be explained under Hadiza’s watch between 2016 and 2017.
In documents obtained by SaharaReporters, which are from the audit of the Budget Performance Report (BPR) for 2016 and 2017, the NPA is being investigated for “Excessive Increase in Administrative Expenditure and Operational Expenses” in which the NPA incurred questionable expenses to the tune of N18 billion.
One of the documents reads, “As part of the exercise, the team performed an analytical review of the administrative and operational expenses incurred by the authority as contained in the Budget Performance Report for the year 2016 and 2017.
“It was observed that the total expenditure reported by the Authority increased astronomically by 128% from N87,474,781,088.00 to N198,989,352,119.00 in 2017. Of particular concern was the Administrative Expenses which increased by 72% from N26,126,990,784.00 in 2016 to N44,937,334,999.00 in 2017.”

Four Persons Dead, Four Rescued In Collapsed 15-Storey Building In Lagos

No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead and removed from the debris of a 15-storey building that collapsed this afternoon on Gerald Road, Ikoyi, a highbrow area in Lagos State.
SaharaReporters learnt that four others were also rescued from the rubble of the building, identified as 360 Degrees.

Earlier when SaharaReporters contacted NEMA spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, he said the number of casualties could not be provided as rescue was still ongoing.

“Two people have been rescued alive, but I can’t give a figure about casualties now. I cannot tell of casualties at the moment. It’s a complex situation,” Farinloye had said.
A video made by Arise News showed sympathisers milling around the collapsed building when the tragedy struck earlier.
One of them could be heard saying, “Even the owner of the house, Mr Gbadebo is there.”
But the latest reports revealed that rescue operators comprising officials of NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, police, among others are still making efforts to save other victims.

The building which was still under construction caved in at about 2pm, burying workers at the sight.
Farinloye added that efforts were being made to invite the military to take over the operation.
He said, “Three persons have been brought out alive so far. We don’t know how many are still trapped. Meanwhile, we are moving in the Military to take over operations because it is beyond the capacity of the civil operators.“We don’t want it to be like the Synagogue case where it took seven to eight days.”
Meanwhile, three persons rescued are currently being treated by the medical team of the Lagos State General Hospital.
Farinloye said the bodies have been moved to a morgue owned by the state government.
“The deceased bodies were pulled out from under the ruble,” he said.

Nnamdi Kanu: Anambra APC, PDP, APGA Governorship Candidates Agree On Dialogue With IPOB

The Anambra State governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Andy Uba; the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chukwuma Soludo, and Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed their views about the agitations and detention of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The candidates spoke during an election debate on Monday organised by the Arise Television.According to Ozigbo, the PDP candidate, Kanu, the detained IPOB leader, was a product of leadership failure.Soludo who was the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria during the tenure of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, also said, ” I am on record speaking, I visited Nnamdi Kanu in 2016 in Kuje prison, with prominent people to ask for his release in line with a court order.”Dialogue is the best solution to the IPOB issue, noting that IPOB deserves to be heard; dialogue,” he said. However, Ozigbo said that Kanu is a product of leadership failure. He also called for dialogue and Kanu’s release. He pointed out that there were certain things about IPOB that he did not support such as the group’s extremism.Meanwhile, Uba asserted that he believed in engagement, stressing that the agitation was as a result of joblessness.Uba declined supporting or condemning the group. He said engagement was the right step to take.IPOB had declared a one week sit-at-home protest across the South-East states starting from November 5, the eve of Anambra governorship election. The group said the protest was aimed at prevailing on the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu.It vowed that the protest would go on as planned if Kanu was not released before November 4.Kanu is facing trial on a seven-count amended charge bordering on treason and terrorism. The Nigerian government had blamed the IPOB leader for the murder of Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband of a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, late Prof. Dora Akunyili.A Presidential committee set up by the President had also accused Kanu of being responsible for the murder of a former presidential aide, Ahmad Gulak, and over 184 others in the South-East.

E2%80%93-governor Cattle Colony: Buhari Planning To Bring Herdsmen From Mali, Sierra Leone, Chad, Others – Governor Ortom

Governor Ortom

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that the worst military regime in the Nigerian history performed better than the current democratic government of President Muhammadu Buhari. The governor described Buhari’s administration as being a specialist in the destruction of security, economy and social life of Nigerian people which makes it worse than a military government.

Governor Ortom

The governor added that the settlement for herdsmen being planned by the Buhari government in different states was to allow Fulani herdsmen come in to settle from other countries.Ortom who spoke to journalists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital after his return from Abuja said that the county had not been so divided as it was under the present regime, stressing that the worst military government was better than it.He, however, said that the success of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention last Saturday rekindled the hope of Nigerians and assured them that the party is poised to take over power. He said, “They (the Buhari government) are being deceitful and not being able to secure our land. They have rather succeeded in destroying our economy, our security, our social life and everything you can think of in this country.“I have been privileged to read the history of Nigeria and that of those who have been destroying us including the military. Usually, we say that the worst democratic government is better than the military government.“That is what we used to say, but for the purpose of APC-led government, I want to say that the worst military government we have had in Nigeria is better than this particular government led by APC.“I have never seen anything like this; people who don’t want you to tell them the truth or advise them, try to twist things and tell the world that you are against them,” he said.Ortom alleged that the farm settlement been canvassed by the present regime was targeted at populating the nation with foreign Fulani, adding that Benue would continue to be opposed to the Nigerian government’s gimmick at seizing territories in Benue land.“There is another trick again that the presidency is trying to bring. Before they came with a water bill aimed to annex our river, but I opposed it. Now they are talking of farm settlement so that they can bring Fulani from Niger, Sierra Leone, Mali Chad and Mauritania, terrorist Fulani to take over our land. I’m saying capital no, it will not work.“I don’t have problem with our indigenous Fulani who have been cohabiting with us but for those terrorist Fulani, it will not work,” Ortom said.

Interpol Declares Nigerian Businessman Wanted For Multimillion-naira Ponzi Scheme, Investment Fraud

The Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Nigeria Police Force has declared a businessman, Francis Uju Adoms wanted over an alleged multi-million naira fraud.
Adoms was declared wanted for allegedly defrauded investors of N52 million and $28,000 (N11.5 million).

According to a warrant of arrest issued by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, Uju defrauded victims under his company, Addy Finance & Investment Limited, registered under the Fund Managers Association of Nigeria (FMAN), Peoples Gazette reports.
FMAN represents the interest of all Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registered Funds and Portfolio Managers in Nigeria.
A notice by the interior stated, “He is wanted by the police for the offence of obtaining money under false pretences and investment fraud in Addy Finance & Investment Limited with the sum of fifty-two million naira only and twenty-eight thousand dollars respectively.”The petition was initiated on behalf of the victims by CHIVE GPS, an intelligence research analysis firm based in Lagos.
Uju was declared wanted following a June 28 petition by Charles Mba and other investors. They transferred the funds into Uju’s company account after seeing an investment advert on the Internet, including social media platforms.
The total amount involved in the alleged fraud was unclear, but sources said Uju fleeced his victims to the tune of billions of naira.
Uju, however, through his company, did not pay back the investors’ fund and the expected returns on investment.
“Oblivious of the fraud ahead, our clients transferred the sum of fifty-two million naira and twenty-eight thousand dollars respectively at various times into the account of Addy Finance. The so-called investment was supposed to last for six months. However, Adoms of Addy Finance failed to pay them back the invested capital or return on investment and elected to be evasive,” the petition stated.
The victims argued that even though the company had been certified by the Securities and Exchange Commission, it is an organised Ponzi scheme packaged as a legitimate business.
“We believe this was simply an organised Ponzi scheme, packaged and promoted as a legitimate business, targeted at Nigerians all over the country who believed the falsehood of Adoms,” the victims added.
A representative of FMAN, Temitope Moshood told the newspaper that they were aware of the matter but said SEC should be contacted for comments.
Earlier in June, some investors yet to receive their return on investment took to the company’s Twitter page to lament their inability to log in to the platform, claiming that Addy Finance has also cut off other forms of communication.
However, on June 18, a user identified as @Rhymmz shared a screenshot of a message he received from the company.
“Kindly note that the delay in payment right now is due to the fact that our accounts have been put on PND (post no debit) because of the petition written by some investors, hence payment cannot be made for now,” it said.
SEC had in April and August, 2021 cautioned Nigerians against investing in unregistered online platforms claiming to be operating in partnership with Capital Market Operators registered with the commission.
The Director-General of SEC, Lamido Yuguda, while speaking at the second post-Capital Market Committee (CMC) in August, urged Nigerians to stay away from fake financial experts who promise to double their money within a short time.
He said the commission would intensify efforts to clamp down on promoters of these illegal investment outfits in the capital market, in addition to its commitment to zero tolerance for infractions.
According to him, the commission has adopted multi-level engagements with media platforms and regulators of publicity agencies to curb the activities of these illegal operators.
“While we continue our activities to resolve the complaints that have been forwarded to the commission through the official channels, it is important to reiterate to the investing public to be wary of unscrupulous schemes that promise unrealistic returns on investment.”
He assured investors that the commission will not hesitate to deal decisively with any operator who carries out any activity outside the function(s) approved for it by the regulator.
Yuguda described Ponzi schemes as a threat to market development, stating that the pervasiveness of Ponzi schemes impacts negatively on investors’ confidence.
“Every month, every day, many of our citizens lost huge monies to Ponzi scheme operators and the commission has adopted a variety of measures including putting up the list of the authorised operators on our website so that interested investors will check our website to confirm that the scheme they are intending to invest in is through a registered operator by the SEC.
“But unfortunately, many of these Ponzi scheme operators give mouth-watering promises and entice many gullible investors. In the end, monies are lost and these investors start flocking to our offices to complain.”
