Son Of Kano Governor, Ganduje Flees To Egypt After Dragging Mother To Anti-graft Commission, EFCC Over Fraud

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State

Abdulazeez Ganduje, the first son of Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has reportedly fled to Egypt with his family after reporting his mother’s to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption.
The young man had dragged his mum, Hafsat Ganduje, to the EFCC, sources familiar with the matter said, suggesting a pattern of corruptly using family access to power for enrichment.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State

Governor Ganduje had yet to comment on the issue.
Daily Nigerian newspaper reports that the governor’s son left the country immediately after filing the petition to avoid the “wrath of his parents.”
A source was quoted as saying, “Abdulazeez left Nigeria for Egypt with his family immediately after filing the petition. He told us he would remain there until the father leaves office. He has avoided his parents and gone underground since the beginning of the crisis.”
His mother had shunned an invitation extended to her by the anti-graft agency, to report for questioning, over a bribery and land fraud case reported by her son.
Ganduje, the governor, had previously been involved in a corruption-related scandal.
He has struggled to untangle himself from the public perception that he is a corrupt public servant since 2018 when Daily Nigerian published a series of videos that showed the governor collecting money from a government contractor.
Abdulazeez reported to the anti-graft agency that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least N35 million as “facilitation commission.”
It was further learnt that Abdulazeez said he paid the sum in dollars to his mother, Ganduje.
“But three months later, (the property developer) discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid the first family for had been allocated to other buyers and he then requested to be refunded,” a source was quoted as saying.
Asked to comment on the matter, a spokesperson for Kano State Government, Mohammed Garba, said, “I am not aware” and, so, he could not comment.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, did not comment on the matter when contacted.

BREAKING: Residents Flee As Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Yobe Town

Boko Haram terrorists have launched an attack on residents of Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe state, Northeastern Nigeria.
Babbangida is located 50 kilometres away from Dapchi where 110 students of the Government Girls Science Technical College were abducted in February 2018.

SaharaReporters Media

A source told SaharaReporters that the insurgents are currently in a gun duel with the troops in the area.
It was gathered that residents in their numbers have since scampered into the bush for safety.
“Boko Haram terrorists are currently attacking Yobe town. They are currently attacking Babbangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa local government area in Yobe State. Residents are fleeing,” the source said.
This comes as the Army Public Relations Director, Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu, revealed that ISWAP terrorist group has commenced a massive recruitment drive after thousands of Boko Haram insurgents ‘repented’ and surrendered to the military.
The Director noted that the military would not relent in its fight against terrorism.
He, however, urged members of the public to be observant in their communities.
The revelation comes two weeks after the State Security Service (SSS), also called the Department of State Services (DSS) asked security agencies in Kaduna to brace themselves for likely attacks.
It noted that leaders and foot soldiers of the Boko Haram terrorist sect have relocated to a forest in Southern Kaduna from Sambisa Forest.
In a memo seen by Peoples Gazette, the terrorists are said to have relocated from Sambisa Forest in Borno state to Rijana Forest in the Chikun local government area of Kaduna.
The newspaper quoted part of the memo as saying a “senior Boko Haram fighter, Ibrahim (FNU) alongside his foot soldiers” were relocating to join their counterparts “under the leadership of one Adamu Yunusu (aka Saddiqu)”.
The DSS, therefore, ordered the officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to tighten security in the “aforementioned areas and environs,” adding that its operatives “should be placed on alert and report accordingly”.
According to the memo, the NSCDC was also “directed to step up surveillance and intelligence gathering on the aforementioned areas and environs”.

E2%80%94 Nigerian Lawmakers, Judges Afraid Of Buhari Government Because They Can Be Summoned At Night— Rivers Governor

Rivers Governor Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said Nigeria is at a point of extinction that only God, not man, can reverse the impending disintegration.
The governor stated this at an Interdenominational Church Service in commemoration of the 61st Independence Anniversary of Nigeria at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Sunday.

Rivers Governor Wike

Wike said it is regrettable that at 61, Nigeria still grapples with leadership failure, Vanguard reports.
He said, “This is the time Nigeria needs God more. The country is gone. Insecurity everywhere. Everyone needs to say, God, we need you because man’s leadership has failed this country.“At 61 years, Nigeria is full of enmity, full of divisions, hatred, ethnicity, a country that cannot put themselves together. Everybody has responsibility, so ask yourself questions, have I played my own part?”
He wondered what has become of the nation’s legislature that continues to approve any wish of the presidency, unfeeling about the consequences.
Wike lamented that the national judiciary is easily being submissive to intimidation as judges, he perceived, have abandoned their responsibilities out of fear.
He questioned the fate of Nigerians in such a situation.
He stated, “We cannot do the right things. Other countries are talking about how their elections will be transparent, we are talking about how we will rig the election in 2023.
“Simple thing, transmit election results electronically to show transparency, that really that the person you’re declaring won the election, but we are afraid.
“Where is the legislature? A legislature that cannot think, anything they bring is right, a legislature that cannot say that Nigeria has nothing to regret from conducting free and fair elections.
“A legislature that you’ll close your eyes, anything they bring about, borrowing, you say borrow. A legislature that cannot say that this money we are borrowing, where is it, where are you applying it? You have no confidence to ask questions.
“The courts have been intimidated. The judges have abandoned their responsibilities out of fear. You’re seeing something that is wrong, but because you will be summoned in the night, you abandoned your responsibility.”
He also blamed the nation’s woes on docile followership, while lamenting that ascendancy to leadership is no longer driven by merit but by ethnic and religious biases.

E2%80%94-ipob-warns-people-using-its-name-solicit You Shall Regret Your Life If You’re Caught— IPOB Warns People Using Its Name To Solicit Funds From Politicians

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that some people are using the name of the group to defraud politicians.
IPOB has, therefore, warned “anybody swindling unsuspecting or greedy politicians in the name of IPOB to immediately disembark from such scandalous mission or brace for the dire consequences.”

This was contained in a statement released by the IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, made available to SaharaReporters on Sunday.
According to the statement titled, ‘We Didn’t Delegate Anybody to Solicit Funds for Us, Beware of Scammers – IPOB Warns Politicians’, the separatist group said it does not need the money of Nigerian politicians.
The statement read, “Following numerous complaints we have received concerning people claiming to be representatives of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who approach politicians in Nigeria, soliciting financial support for IPOB, we wish to clarify that IPOB has NEVER, and will NEVER ask anybody to beg for such financial support.
“IPOB under the able leadership of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not send anybody on such shameful errand.
“IPOB is a global movement with members in over 100 countries and we know how we raise our funds. We don’t solicit financial support from politicians. We have nothing to do with Nigerian politicians; we don’t need their money!
“Therefore, anybody no matter how highly or lowly placed or even related to our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, parading as a representative of IPOB sent to collect financial support from any politician is on his or her own. Such impostors assuming the complaints are correct are scammers. They don’t have the mandate of IPOB.
“We, therefore, seriously warn anybody swindling unsuspecting or greedy politicians in the name of IPOB to immediately disembark from such scandalous mission or brace up for the dire consequences.
“If we catch anybody no matter who such a person is, fronting as IPOB agent before any Nigerian politician, such a person will live in regrets the rest of his or her life if the person is lucky to escape the wrath of God.
“We also wish to advise gullible and greedy politicians not to deal with or give money to anyone claiming to have been sent by IPOB. We have not sent or delegated anyone for such a disgraceful mission. Be warned!”

Local Council Chairman Declares Curfew, Bans All Gathering In Benue Community After Communal Clash

Benue state map

The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, James Oche, has announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew following a communal clash in the area.

Oche made this known during the weekend while urging security operatives to clamp down on violators of the order.

Benue state map

He said the move was necessary because of the brewing tension in Agila District and its extension to Apa in the Ado Local Government Area of the state.

An official of the local council told Daily Trust that the brewing crisis was connected to the age-long “royal and non-royal palaver” bedevilling the people of Agila District in Ado.

The official said the stereotyping of certain people in the area allegedly belonging to the non-royal class by those who claimed to have royal status had in the past created bitter rivalry which led to the loss of lives and property.

Meanwhile, the council chairman in a statement indicated that the curfew was declared after consultation with the Ado Divisional Police Officer and heads of wards and clans “to place a 6 pm to 6 am curfew in Agila District to take immediate effect from Saturday, the 25th day of September and to be in force till further notice”.

He said, “The premises of Akpa Ofu Unazi and Jesus Cottage, all of Apa Ward are sealed forthwith till further notice.

“That all gatherings of whatever sort or clustering for whatever purpose are hereby banned except with the permission of the Chairman first sought and obtained.

“That a 6 pm to 6 am curfew is hereby declared in the whole of Agila District. That the police, the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, and other enforcement agencies are by this notice directed to enforce these directives decisively.

“That all immigrants to Apa Ward within the last two months should immediately turn themselves in to the office of the ward head within the next seven days to report their presence or risk being arrested and dealt with appropriately.

“That all those harbouring persons not hitherto known to the communities must account for them when need be and all those whose premises are used for illegal congregation shall be arrested/prosecuted in accordance with the relevant state laws on criminality and such houses shall be destroyed.

“That violators will be brought to justice in the manner most consistent with legal prescriptions as applicable, as there would be a house-to-house arrest of violators.”

He added that all travellers and transporters should take note that vehicular movements during the curfew in Apa and Akpoge Ogbilolo are banned and violators would be treated like other violators.

How Bandits Are Using Neighbouring Nigerien Mobile Phone Services To Coordinate Attacks In Nigeria—Sokoto Lawmaker

File photo used to illustrate story.

A member representing Sabon Birni North Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Aminu Almustapha Gobir says bandits are now using the mobile phone services of Niger Republic to coordinate attacks in Nigeria.
As part of measures to check banditry, the Nigerian government had shut down telecommunications services in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states.

File photo used to illustrate story.

This was to cut off communications between bandits and their informants.
However, as a means of circumventing the security measure, bandits have now resorted to using the telecoms services of the neighbouring country which shares a border with Nigeria through Sokoto, Daily Trust reports.
The lawmaker, Gobir said he received a threat from one of the bandits who was using the Nigerien network service.
“The bandit was threatening to lead his gang to attack me and my community,” he said.
Gobir also confirmed an attack on a military base in the Sabo Birni Local Government Area of the state.
The newspaper had reported how bandits raided the military base, killing security personnel and setting patrol vans on fire.
“It is true that they attacked a military base at Dama and killed about 12 of them while many are still missing.
“This is why I faulted the government for shutting GSM network in the eastern part of the state without a serious military operation taking place there.
“The bandits are now using Nigerien network to communicate among themselves and perpetrate their heinous activities in the area.
“I expect our governor to provide Divisional Police Officers and deploy the military to Sokoto East with Thuraya phones which could enable them to communicate among themselves and with their superior officers if they need help since there is no GSM network.
“This is what the Governor of Zamfara did and it’s paying off positively,” he said
The report added that the Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd), confirmed the attack on the military base but said he was not sure of the number of casualties.
On the bandits using foreign networks to coordinate attacks, he said that could be possible because of the proximity with the Niger Republic.
The development comes amid military interventions in the region.
SaharaReporters had reported how the Nigerian Communications Commission in a letter to all telecoms operators suspended mobile communications in Zamfara and other states.
In the memo signed by the NCC and directed at the telecos, the suspension of services lasted between September 3 through September 17 in the first instance.
The commission had also said the directive was to enable relevant security agencies to carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state.
Katsina, despite being the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, has witnessed sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers which have claimed the lives of many.
Over 700 people have been reportedly killed by gunmen in Jibia, Kankara, Dutsinma, Musawa, Danmusa, and Safana local government areas of the state in the last five months.
Sokoto State Government had also shut down telecommunications networks in 14 of the 23 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to check banditry.
