Buhari: A Bull In A China Shop! By Ozodinukwe Okenwa

SOC Okenwa

Few weeks ago the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, had lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to tackle ubiquitous banditry and galloping insecurity across the federation. In a viral video seen online the Imam swore that Allah (God) would deal with the President if he did not return Nigeria “united and without bandits” as he met it. The cleric while addressing worshippers during his Friday sermon said Buhari must ensure that he ended the menace before leaving power in 2023.

Speaking in his native Hausa language Sheikh Khalid asked the worshippers to go “tell the President that there is a country we pay allegiance to, and there is a part of the country we do not know, which is governed by bandits…..the President should either return the country as one nation where bandits are not killing people anyhow — just the way he took over, or Allah (God) will deal with him”.

Imam Nuru made a point. Nigeria has lately become a nation governed by bandits and terrorists! Kidnapping on industrial scale is now the new money-spinning business in town! Abductors are on the rampage kidnapping for ransom. The entire country has turned crimson as professional killers, herdsmen and terrorists sow sorrow, tears and blood.

SOC Okenwa

Even the hitherto impregnable NDA (the Nigeria Defense Academy) in Kaduna was not spared recently as bandits ransacked there killing officers and taking others prisoners. They left with heavy ammunition stolen from the armoury! They met little or no resistance as the operation lasted. They even had the temerity to demand for ransom before releasing the abducted official in their custody.

The Chief Imam of the Apo Mosque was not alone in lamenting the failure of leadership at the centre. About the same period he spoke truth to power the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, had hurled insults on those he called ‘Fulani vagabonds’ said to be making life impossible for local people. The intrepid voluminous Bishop was speaking at the first service of his church ending of August at the Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland Ota, Ogun state.

Bishop Oyedepo described President Buhari’s administration as an ‘error’ Nigerians made in 2015 which must not repeat itself come 2023. “For the blood of many that they have wasted, their generations will pay for it” the man of God declared invoking the imminent wrath of God visiting the evil men and women in the land.

And he continued: “If nothing happens, God has not sent me but judgment will be ravaging the land from now. Many will sleep and never wake up. Many will be struck with blindness in 24 hours. Many will be crippled in 3 days. My God is turning the table against the wicked”.

Though we have not seen or heard of any of our oppressors going blind, getting crippled or slept without waking up in the morning the judgement of God is always patient. It could happen at any time or at any place.

It appears lately that majority of Nigerians are agreed that President Buhari’s administration is a disaster for Nigeria. Not one waiting to happen but a disaster that has already happened. Perhaps, except Femi Adesina, Shehu Garba, Lai Mohammed and a host of other die-hard Buharists and Buharideens, the conclusion is already reached without ethnic or religious connotation or colouration that Buhari has almost destroyed Nigeria beyond recognition and redemption.

For the past six years Buhari has become a harbinger of destruction inhibiting everything that aids development of the Nigerian people. Is it in the area of security or division across ethnic or religious lines? Or power generation and distribution? Or welfare of the people and their collective pursuit of happiness? Or the value of the national currency, the Naira? Or the value of our lives, since reduced to the level of those of cows?

Given the generalised degeneration of the governance system voices of opposition are now mounting, some emanating from unfamiliar quarters up north denouncing the lethargy in governance and the poverty, lies and deception. Unfortunately, we have liars and garbages in government in Abuja professionally defending the indefensible.

President Buhari (or the cabal doing the job for him) have positioned professional propagandists who paint black white. What cynics and critics are seeing they claim not to see. But they are meeting their match in the vociferous vibrant opposition, conventional and non-conventional.

Before our very eyes what is unfolding was unimaginable prior to the emergence of the retired General onto the national stage as President. He had campaigned for ‘change’ and restoration of national security and dignity. Alas, what has changed are legion: pauperisation of our people, unemployment, organized looting, corruption, insecurity and creeping tyranny.

President Buhari has literally become an executive bull in a China shop! Care must be taken, therefore, to ease the bull out of the glass-filled shop. Before the deranged bull does further damage to the system men of goodwill, people of good conscience, patriots, elder statesmen capable of removing the beast from the anomalous position it has taken inside the building must unite their efforts to save the shop and the building.

The religious leaders across the country are united in their conclusion that Nigeria under Buharism is sick and dying! A sick country in the hands of a sick man! For Nigeria to survive and make progress then Buharism must ‘die’!

E2%80%93-benue-governor-supports-wike-sanwo-olu-value-added We’ll Await Supreme Court Decision – Benue Governor Supports Wike, Sanwo-Olu On Value-Added Tax

Governor Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has shown his support for his counterparts in Lagos and Rivers states amid moves to make the collection of value-added tax (VAT) exclusive to states.
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, signed into law the bill on Value Added Tax (VAT) collection in the state.

Governor Ortom

This was days after a Federal High Court issued an order restraining the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) from collecting the tax in the state.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, followed suit on Friday.
However, the court of appeal in Abuja ordered both Rivers and Lagos states to maintain status quo over the collection of VAT, pending the determination of an appeal filed by the FIRS.
Ortom, who spoke with journalists on Friday, said although he supports Wike and Sanwo-Olu, he would embrace the decision of the court on VAT collection no matter the outcome.
Ortom said he had already directed the Benue State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to study the law and tell him its implications.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong in embracing the law as long as it conforms with the constitution, whether it affects states positively or negatively. I support the governors of Rivers and Lagos states for what they are doing.
“Anything that is in tandem with the rule of law I will accept, but if anyone thinks otherwise, the best thing to do is to go to court. I heard they are in court, and if the case is decided otherwise by the Supreme Court, we will accept it,” the governor said.

Buhari Lambasts Striking Nigerian Doctors, Says Government Has Track Record Of Paying Debts, Pensions

President Muhammadu Buhari says doctors’ outstanding benefits would not be paid until a verification exercise is carried out.
Buhari also scolded the doctors for prioritising their grievances more than the services they rendered to the Nigerian population, adding that the hazard allowance would be reviewed after the “deep division within the ranks of the striking doctors” is resolved.

The National Association of Resident Doctors had on August 1 commenced an indefinite strike action over “irregular payment of salaries”, among other issues.
Efforts of stakeholders, including the House of Representatives to mediate between the Nigerian government and the resident doctors did not yield results.
In a bid to force the doctors back to work, the Nigerian government instituted a suit against the association, asking the court for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining members of NARD from continuing with the action.
The Industrial Court ruled that the doctors should resume work but the doctors have insisted on continuing with the strike until their demands are met.
Meeting with officials of the Nigeria Medical Association at the State House in Friday, the President faulted the industrial action, saying “The lives of citizens that could be lost or damaged when doctors withdraw services, are precious enough to be worth opting for peaceful resolution of differences.
“Let me speak directly to the striking doctors. Embarking on industrial action at this time when Nigerians need you most is not the best action to take, no matter the grievances.
“This administration has a good track record of paying all debts owed to government workers, pensioners and contractors and we have even revisited debts left by past administrations; once due verification is done, debts genuinely owed Health workers will be settled.
“I learnt that some of the 12-point demand in the ongoing strike was already addressed, though the review of a new Hazard Allowance has not been fully negotiated because of the sharp and deep division within the ranks of the striking doctors.”
“President Buhari said the outstanding issue of an Establishment circular issued by the Head of Service, removing House officers, NYSC Doctors from scheme of service had an addendum circular from National Salaries and Wages Commission to clarify that they will continue to earn the wages attached to them on their present wage structure,” Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, quoted Buhari as saying in a statement.

Fulani Terrorists: Yorubas Are Not Your Brothers, We Are Not Your Keepers! By Bayo Oluwasanmi

Recently, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Nyesom Wike of Rivers said the VAT collected in their respective states would no more be sent to Abuja.
Reacting to the statement, the Gombe State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Creation, Muhammad Magaji said “The realisation was that only Lagos, Rivers and probably Delta States would be able to pull through without the VAT administered centrally, and it is our appeal that we all put sentiments behind and work towards a federation that is one, by being our brothers’ keepers…”
How can we be our Fulani brothers’ keeper? Brotherhood is a demonstration of love, respect, support, and empathy. It is irrelevant whether or not the Fulanis are of Yoruba’s blood. We can make a bond just as strong even without the literal ceremony of being blood brothers. But Fulani terrorists have have made our friendship impossible. Fulani terrorists have proved beyond all doubts that they are enemies of Yorubas. They are killers. They are rapists. They are kidnappers. They are ready to snuff us out of existence.

Without any wish to be immodest, of all the ethnic groups in Nigeria, Yorubas are the most liberal, kind, generous, warm, accommodating, helpful, and loving especially to strangers. Ironically, the Fulanis have exploited this to a great advantage. Indeed, they have taken our civility and civilization as weakness and stupidity. They have taken us for granted and for a long ride! If the scope and size of terrorism that Fulani terrorists unleashed on Yorubas were meted to Fulanis, Nigeria would have been set ablaze by Fulanis.
How can we be your brothers when you rape and kill our daughters, mothers, and wives? How can we be your brothers when you kidnap our brothers, sisters, fathers, and kill them even after hefty ransoms have been paid? How can we be your brothers when you have destroyed our children and our civilization? We can’t be your brothers after you have turned our land into slaughtering field.
How can we be your keeper when you have violently violated all our freedoms? How can we be your keeper when you have turned us into prisoners and refugees in our own land because of your violence and killings? How can we be your keeper when you have made our communities unsafe and unlivable? How can we be your keeper when you have disrupted and disbanded our humanity? When has any Fulani work for a true federalism? Now that you want our VAT you want us to “put all sentiments behind and work towards a federation that is one…” We are no fools. We understand your language. Your bait of carrot and sticks won’t work any more. You have shot your self in the foot.
You – Fulani terrorists – have cheapened our lives. You have punctured the sanctity of our lives. You have taken away the sacred dimension of every minute of our human existence. “Be your brothers’ keepers” is a haunting question that will continue to torment you. It challenges you to examine your evil ways. It’s a call to halt your insatiable appetite for killing your fellow citizens. For the evils done to us we are not your brothers. You’re not our brothers. We are not your keepers! How dare you soliciting for our brotherly love? Go away with your blood invitation! Away with your fake love of brotherhood. We have nothing in common with blood thirsty savages. We are done with you!

Lagos Divisional Police Officer Redeployed After Losing Service Pistol To Lover

The Denton Divisional Police Officer in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State, CSP Adegoke Atilade, has been redeployed by the Lagos State Police Command.
Atilade’s redeployment followed Punch story about his alleged office escapade with a 29-year-old woman, Jennifer Madueke, which led to his missing service pistol.

The incident had happened on Friday, August 27, 2021.
In a statement on Friday, the police spokesman in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a thorough probe into the case.
When contacted by our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said a new DPO will resume at the station anytime from now.
Ajisebutu, however, did not state the new place of assignment of the embattled officer.
Madueke, after spending three days in a detention facility at the Denton Police Station, Ebute Meta, Lagos, where she was allegedly tortured to confess to the crime, was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
It was learnt that Madueke and Atilade once dated and separated after the police officer was transferred out of Lagos over seven years ago but the two continued after the married officer was posted back to Lagos recently.
“She was my girlfriend in 2011, but we separated. About one and a half months ago, while I was around the Stadium area, she came to greet me and that was how she knew where I was working and she started coming. When her coming did not favour me, I told her not to come again,” the embattled officer had stated.
“On that Friday, I was at a club with one of my friends. It was there a girlfriend came to meet me. Then this lady came later. I never knew that she had a mission. I sent her away and said I was busy.
“The other lady with me told me that she was going to Bariga. She Madueke also came, but said she could not get a vehicle to her residence that night because it was late. I then left them (both ladies) in the office and went out on a night patrol.
“It was then I started thinking I would go back and wake them up. When I returned, I gave her N4,000 (transport fare) to go.”
Asked if he slept with Madueke, Atilade had said, “When two people are in my office? I did not sleep with her. I left them there. Unknown to me, she had gone to pick a bag behind my chair. It was when she left that I discovered that my pistol was missing, with N50,000. I did not even care about the money, but I started calling her, and she did not pick the calls. She also blocked me on WhatsApp.
“We went to prayer houses and consulted alfas, me and the other girl, but we did not find her. I did not see her for one week. I paid people who tracked her.”
Atilade said he regretted ‘helping’ Madueke that night when she claimed to be stranded, adding that after she was arrested, she denied taking the gun but admitted to ‘stealing’ N7,000 from the bag.
The command, however, ordered the redeployment of the officer for an investigation into the matter.
It read, “This is to inform the general public that the Lagos State Police Command is not oblivious of the reported case of theft of service pistol against one Jenifer Madueke ‘f’ and the allegation of s** in the office against DPO Denton Police Division, CSP Adegoke Atilade as published on page 4 and 5 of today’s edition of the Punch.
“In the interest of fairness and justice, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered an independent, thorough and unbiased investigation into the case.
“Members of the public are hereby assured that appropriate actions will be taken against anyone found culpable at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation such that at the end, justice would have been served.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed immediate redeployment of the officer in the eye of the storm so as to pave the way for diligent and unbiased investigation.”

E2%80%93-gani-adams-says-condemns-sheikh-gumi%E2%80%99s-visit Bandits Planning To Attack South-West Region – Gani Adams Says, Condemns Sheikh Gumi’s Visit To Igboho

Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, and other members of the South-West Security Stakeholders Group have berated Kaduna State-based Islamic scholar, Ahmad Gumi, over his visit to Igboho town in Oyo State.
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho is an indigene of Igboho, the headquarters of the Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Gani Adams

In a viral video on Tuesday, the controversial Islamic cleric was sighted in Igboho town in the company of a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof Usman Yusuf.
Reacting after an emergency meeting, the security group described the pro-bandits’ Islamic cleric’s visit as “provocative.”
The security stakeholders made this known in a statement while raising the alarm that bandits were plotting to attack the region and security agencies must be on alert.
They slammed Sheikh Gumi for embarking on a visit to Igboho town, saying the visit was an “attempt to mock and undermine the efforts of the Yoruba activists and freedom fighters”.
They stated that the Islamic cleric’s body language as well as statements in Igboho town “truly showed that he was behind the DSS attack on Igboho’s Soka home, and that part of the Yoruba territories have been conquered.”
“Gumi is a Nigerian, he has a right to visit any part of the country but it shouldn’t be to the extent of being deliberately attacking Igboho’s ideology in his hometown.
“Such an attempt is provocative and can lead to a crisis. That was why it elicited various reactions. Gumi’s ideas are always at variance with the present reality in the country and I think it is better for him to desist from fanning the embers of discord in the country and the southwest in particular,” the statement partly read.
The security stakeholders also warned bandits and other “bad elements” to stay away from the South-West region.
They claimed that that “there are feelings that bandits have perfected their plans to strike in South-West.
The statement added, “On this note, the South-West Security Stakeholders Group has considered it necessary to beef up the security operations in our region, and we charged the police and all other security outfits, across the region to remain vigilant in ensuring that the region is safe. Any attempt to invade the South-West will bring about both economic and political doom.
“SSSG is driven by the calls to ensure effective security across the South-West. We are also keen on regionalism where each region will control the security architecture of their respective region. If Nigeria didn’t return to or go back to regionalism based on the true Federalism that we have in the past, there may be a crisis and nobody should blame those agitating for self-determination.
“But as a group, we will not relent in the struggle to protect the South-West and we are determined to partner with the police and other security agencies to combat crime and make the region safe for all and sundry.”

Fake Lawyer Arrested In Osun After Practising For 10 Years

A man, identified as Adebowale Babatunde, has been arrested for parading himself as a lawyer while presenting himself as a counsel before a Magistrate Court in Osogbo, Osun State.
Babatunde, from investigation, has practised for over 10 years and was charged by the police in a case file number: MOS/152C/2021.

According to a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Osogbo branch, Dawood Ajetunmobi, the Ministry of Justice has taken over the case from the police after the union requested it to do so.
It was learnt that the fake lawyer, Babatunde on March 10, 2021, appeared before Magistrate A. A Adeyeba to move a motion.
However, the way and manner in which the fake lawyer conducted himself in the court raised suspicion which angered one of the lawyers in the court.
The lawyer, O.U Yussuf asked the court through an oral application to dig into the personal details and status of Babatunde as a lawyer.
The magistrate gave a prompt order for the arrest of the defendant.
Meanwhile, the trial of the defendant which was supposed to come up on Wednesday, 8, September 2021 before the Osogbo Chief Magistrate A.K Ajala was shelved as Babatunde was absent in court which was the direct consequence of discovering him as a fake lawyer.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ajala refused the prosecutor’s prayer and adjourned the matter to September 24, 2021 for fresh arraignment since the matter is coming up before him for the first time.

E2%80%99t-travel-without-approval-%E2%80%93-nigerian-government-tells-corps-members-bandits-ravaged Don’t Travel Without Approval – Nigerian Government Tells Corps Members In Bandits-Ravaged Zamfara State

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, has assured corps members in Zamfara State that the scheme is in touch with security agencies to ensure they are safe in their locations.
The NYSC also advised corps members not to travel without permission out of their places of primary assignment.

A statement issued by the scheme’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, and obtained by SaharaReporters, quoted Ibrahim as reiterating the commitment to the security and general welfare of corps members wherever they are deployed in the country.
The Director-General was said to have addressed the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Zamfara State.
Ibrahim commended them for the demonstration of patriotism through acceptance of their deployment to the State, which is facing a security challenge.
He assured them that, with the efforts of the federal government through the intense operations of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, the problem of banditry in the state and other parts of the North-West would be gone.
“The Federal Government appreciates your courage and readiness to contribute to national development.
“Be rest assured that both the Government and NYSC care for you. We are in constant liaison with security agencies in our determined efforts to ensure that you and other Corps Members remain safe in any location you find yourselves,” he said.
“If you are going to travel within the country, your Coordinator must approve and if you are travelling outside the country, it is only the Director-General that can give approval. Your employers cannot permit you to travel”, he added.
He urged them to strive and perform excellently in all the four cardinal programmes of the scheme, and add value to their host communities by undertaking projects on the platform of the NYSC Community Development Service.
He further stressed that they should use the opportunity of the Orientation Course to imbibe teamwork and create friendship that would outlive the service year.
