Again, Police Attack Shiites Protesting Zakzaky’s Detention In Kaduna

File photo used to illustrate story.

Men of the Kaduna State Police Command have reportedly fired gunshots to disperse members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria who gathered at the Central Market to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.
It was gathered that the police got wind of the protest and deployed officers to the Sheikh Gumi axis of the Kaduna Central Market to stop the protesters, Daily Trust reports.

File photo used to illustrate story.

As soon as the Shiites sighted the police, who had cordoned the area with their vehicles, they immediately aborted protesting in the area.
Giving an eye-witness account, Halima Ibrahim, said she had just arrived at the market when she heard shots being fired.
“I immediately took cover when I heard the shots and the whole incident caused pandemonium in the market. Later, I was able to muster courage and leave my car, where I was waiting to hear what happened. I was told that police officers came to the market to pick some IMN group members and fired some shots to scare them.
“A customer of mine, Mohammed Yunusa, told me that on Wednesday, some policemen were passing the market in their vehicle on routine duty when IMN members attacked them, they vandalised the vehicle and the occupants had to run for their lives.”
But, a member of IMN, Abdullah Usman, said, “We usually come out every two weeks in protest to remind Nigerians that our leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife are still being held since 2015. It seems the police got an intelligence report that we will come out to protest because they beat us to our game.
“When we saw that policemen had been deployed to the area of the protest, we decided to suspend the rally and I think to scare us, some policemen moved into the market and fired some shots into the air.
“We then moved to Dan Mani Junction along the Nnamdi Azikiwe road to continue with our protest, but the police had also been deployed there and in the end, we aborted the whole protest to avoid bloodshed.”

Nnamdi Kanu And The Ghosts Of Biafra, By Ozodinukwe Okenwa

SOC Okenwa

Many Nigerians (especially Biafrans) were dumbfounded when news filtered in online recently that the Supreme leader of the Biafran secessionist movement, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had been apprehended in Kenya and bundled back to Nigeria to face trial on a numerous charges bordering on “terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society”. Soon enough, however, bewilderment gave way for reality to sink in after the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, went on air to announce that the fugitive ‘terrorist’ was intercepted by local and international security agencies and brought back to the country to continue standing trial.

SOC Okenwa

Minister Malami, during the press conference in Abuja, hinted that apart from jumping bail, Kanu had been accused of “engaging in subversive activities that include inciting violence through television, radio and online broadcasts against Nigeria and Nigerian State and institutions.” He also accused him of “illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others”.
Last tuesday was indeed a dark day for the struggle for the Biafran nationhood. As Kanu was brought before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja handcuffed, wearing iron leg-locks and blindfolded he looked emaciated, fagged out, despondent and subdued. There were certain manifestation of contentment in some quarters while despondency prevailed in others, especially in the south-east region.
Even IPOB later confirmed that their champion was now ‘caged’ inside the ‘zoo’! Following speculations over how the mercurial secessionist movement leader was caught and repatriated conspiracy theories flooded the social media. Some alluded to the fact that he was apprehended on transit in Ethiopia. And others claimed he was ‘kidnapped’ in Brazil as he kept an appointment with a lady used to set him up. Some more insinuated that he was given the Umaru Dikko treatment from London. Others cited Czech Republic or Israel as his departure point for Nigeria.
The British High Commission in Nigeria was forced to clear the air by issuing a terse statement debunking the fake news that Kanu was arrested and deported from the British capital city. He made it clear that he was apprehended somewhere in an African country but certainly outside the United Kingdom territory.  Kanu is a British citizen.
Nnamdi Kanu was thought to be invincible by many of his followers hence the incredulity that initially greeted his reported repatriation. The way he had escaped from his country home in Afaraukwu, Umuahia when the military, way back in 2017, invaded with the intention to liquidate him must have reinforced the false belief that he had what it takes mystically to appear and disappear.
Justice Nyako hurriedly adjourned the case till July 26 for the formal commencement of trial ordering that Kanu be kept in the Department of State Services (DSS) custody. He came to court through the back door and without his lawyers. Some weeks ago, it would be recalled, Kanu’s principal attorney, Aloy Ejiofor, had his residence in Oraifite, Anambra state, viciously attacked at wee hours of the night by security operatives. If not for the bunker he built inside his country home which provided him safety at the crucial moment he would have been dead by now!
Presently there is this remarkable air of triumphalism in the Buhari camp. But in the south-east region of the country an atmosphere of restiveness is prevalent. The fear of the unknown and what the future holds remain questions no one could answer with certainty.Kanu became a marked man the moment he formed the Eastern Security Network, a paramilitary force which he claimed were after the Fulani herdsmen invasion of the south-east. But for the Buhari administration it was a private militia, a Biafran army formed with the intention to achieve Biafra violently.
Whatever he went to do in Kenya is not yet clear but suffice to say that Kanu should have known better before venturing out of his comfort zone, the UK. Whether in transit in Kenya before his ‘abduction’ or on official engagement he put his safety and the Biafran cause he was championing on the line. The Federal Government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had declared that Kanu had been trailed for two years before he was cornered in the east African country.
The designer dress (Fendi made in Italy) worn by the seperatist agitator had led Minister Mohammed to disclose that Kanu was living a five-star lifestyle, living in choice apartments and flying in chattered private jets as he sent his ESN boys to do damage to the system back home. The incontrovertible evidence at the government’s possession to nail Kanu judicially remains enormous. It would be a miracle if he survives and comes out alive!
The Kenyan government through the Immigration Services and the Ministry of Interior had denied knowledge of any collaboration with the Nigerian security officials in the Kanu deportation plot. It seemed it was a mafian operation that never involved any local government official in the east African country.
Now, while the Kenyan Ambassador in Nigeria had categorically denied the involvement of his home government in the Kanu deportation saga Kanu’s lawyers who visited him recently had confirmed that he was indeed arrested and detained and tortured in Kenya by Kenyans for eight long days prior to his repatriation to Nigeria. Who is telling the truth and who is lying, no one knows! But Kanu’s version sounded more plausible as he has nothing more to lose!
Nnamdi Kanu’s methods and tactics – aggressive, virulent and provocative – gave him away as a dangerous man worthy of government’s attention. Neutralizing him, one way or another, became a top priority for the die-hard Buharists. Now President Buhari himself must be very elated that his number one enemy had been contained. And when you add that to the recent elimination of Abubakar Shekau of the Boko Haram fame then Buharism has every cause to celebrate.
Kanu was supremely haughty, inchoate and disrespectful. Yet he was neither ignorant nor naive! By electing to champion the cause of Biafra he must have known the dangers inherent in the protracted struggle. He wittingly or unwittingly alienated many elders and those on whom he would have counted in this moment of tribulation.
The Nigerian state must ensure that Kanu gets justice no matter the degree of crime he is accused of. Killing or torturing him may turn out to be counter-productive. Let justice be done and be seen to be done. The ghosts of Biafra are many and they are turning in their marked and unmarked graves scattered across Igboland! More than three million of them must have been unhappy over the way and manner Mazi Kanu was forcibly brought back to his roots from where he fled ‘justice’. Now that he is back home against his will it is left to be seen who would save him from the descent into ignominy.
We welcome Mazi Kanu back to the ‘zoo’ Republic with apprehension! If the hyenas and lions inside the ‘zoo’ did not devour him alive then he should be grateful to God indeed upon his emergence from his current judicial ordeal.
We refuse to weep for Nnamdi Kanu or even for Biafra! We weep rather for our beloved country, Nigeria, and her decades of dashed hopes and aborted dreams; decades of stagnant greatness!SOC Okenwasoco_abj_2006_rci@hotmail.fr

African Action Congress Knocks Buhari Government Over Police Disruption Of Yoruba Nation Rally

The African Action Congress has condemned police disruption of the rally by Yoruba Nation Agitators in Lagos on Saturday.
SaharaReporters had reported how security operatives dispersed peaceful protesters who had gathered in Lagos in the early hours of the day.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Femi Adeyeye,  the AAC said the show-of-force by the police at the Gani Fawehinmi Park was cruel and undemocratic and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
The party alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had plunged Nigeria into a total dictatorship, as witnessed in the harassment and brutality of peaceful protesters by security forces.
The statement read, “The Muhammadu Buhari regime has led Nigeria into a full-blown dictatorship as it has become unfortunately excruciating to keep condemning its attacks on Nigerians daily.

Police Attack Peaceful Yoruba Nation Agitators In Lagos

”The sorrow, tears and blood government has become emboldened in its fascist tendencies with the recent events that have played out in the last one week- the abduction of Nnamdi Kanu, nocturnal attack on Sunday Igboho’s residence and the extrajudicial killings that happened there.
“Today, it is unfortunate that we are penning another condemnation of violent repression of agitators that has resulted in the killing of a 14-year old female trader by stray live bullets shot by officers led by police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu.
“If people could be treated with such violence as witnessed today in broad daylight, we can only imagine the level of wanton atrocities the regime commits at dusk. LekkiTollGate Massacre comes to mind. We call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all the officers involved in the violent repression and eventual killing.
“We describe the “show of force” by the police as very cruel, undemocratic and a complete waste of both man-hours and taxpayers’ money that could have been used to combat crimes that are on the exponential rise in the state.
”The level of force seen today at the protest venue would be appreciated in the prevention of crime and in attending to distress calls by residents of Lagos. Less than 10 kilometres from the protest venue is Somolu, a suburb that has become a hotbed of daylight and nighttime robberies. The show of force has not been taken there.
“From Kaduna to Abuja, Ibadan and Lagos, just in the space of a week, over ten protesting Nigerians have been killed with scores left with varying levels of injuries by security agents under the command of Buhari.
“The unpopular regime must immediately desist from the use of brute force in addressing the rightful discontentment of Nigerians.

”The AAC calls for the unity of all oppressed as we forge ahead in the liberation struggle.”

E2%80%94-el-rufai Real Reason I Withdrew My Son From Public School — El-Rufai

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai, has explained that he withdrew his son from public school to protect other children from possible attacks by kidnappers.
On September 23, 2019, Governor El-Rufai had made a public show of his son’s enrolment in the school, saying he decided to enrol his son in a government primary school to lead by example and commit to the education sector in the state.

However, checks by SaharaReporters in March revealed that Abubakar El-Rufai, the seven-year-old son of Governor El-Rufai, had been absent from school.
SaharaReporters, after visiting the school premises in March 2021, established from pupils and teachers that young El-Rufai had not come to school since resumption amidst the rising insecurity and threats to the lives of schoolchildren.
Confirming the report in an interview with BBC Pidgin on Friday, El-Rufai said he got security reports that his son would be kidnapped to see if he would change his mind on paying the ransom.
He said, “We had to temporarily withdraw him because we received a security report that three groups were planning to attack the school and kidnap my son.”

EXCLUSIVE: How El-Rufai Secretly Withdraws Son From Public School In Kaduna As Kidnapping, Banditry Cases Increase

He further said though the school is well protected, he withdrew his son from the school because he feared that an attack on the school could harm other children.
“I don’t think they (kidnappers) would have succeeded because there is enough security in the school to prevent them, but it would expose other pupils of the school to danger.
“We didn’t know the kind of weapon they would have brought. I had taken a stand against payment of ransom, and we had reported that three groups were planning to kidnap my son from Capital School to see whether I will pay the ransom or not if my son is kidnapped,” he added.

E2%80%94-afenifere If Yoruba Nation Rally Was In Support Of Buhari, It Is Likely No One Would Stop It — Afenifere

The pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has condemned the police attack on Yoruba Nation agitators at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota Lagos, on Saturday.
The group stated that if the Lagos rally supported President Muhammadu Buhari, it would likely not be stopped.

In a statement issued by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, it said the Federal government is muzzling freedom of expression in the country.
According to Afenifere, the Yoruba Nation agitators have a right to express their opinions, arguing that what the agitators had done was within the legal permit of the country.
The statement read, “Afenifere believes that in a democratic setting, the citizens have a right to express their opinion peacefully as long as it is done within the law. For that reason, what Ilana Omo Oodua and those who organised the rally in Lagos have done is still within the legal permit of the country.
“Just as our leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said recently, we are a law-abiding organisation and we represent the citizens.
” Since the government of Lagos State has given an order that such a rally be suspended, we feel that the rally should have been suspended but not because the government is right.
“This is to show that we are law-abiding. This present government, particularly at the federal level, is muzzling freedom of expression, freedom of association and trying to suppress any organisation, body or voice that it feels is against its policies.
“We are sure that if the Lagos rally was done in support of President Muhammadu Buhari, it is not likely to be stopped.
“In any case, the rally was not meant to be against this administration; it was planned to be an avenue to advocate or solicit for the Yoruba Nation.
“Afenifere is a federalist and we maintain that and we believe that people clamouring for secession have a right to clamour as long as it is done within the law and as long as they do not employ violence. We see no reason why the government should stop them.
“All the government ought to have done is to watch them and ensure the rally is not hijacked.
“We believe that with the way it is conducting itself, it is attracting opposition and unnecessary criticism to itself. We feel that the government should change its ways in this regard.”

Sunday Igboho’s Associate Was Shot 48 Times, Mortal Was Used To Kill Him when Gunshots By DSS Operatives Didn’t Have Effect On Him — Secessionist Group Says

Sunday Igboho

The umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, has alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services, during the raid on the Ibadan residence of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), shot at one of Igboho’s associate, Adogan 48 times before butchering him to death.
In a statement shared with SaharaReporters by Olayomi Koiki, Igboho’s media aide, the Ilana Omo Oodua group led by historian, Banji Akintoye, claimed that the DSS operatives shot Saheed Adisa, popularly called Adogan, 48 times and when the bullets failed, a mortar was used to kill the young man.

Sunday Igboho

It read, “This is the face of a true warrior. His name is Adogan. He took 48 bullets to his body and was still standing like a fearless Ikoyi Eso. When shots failed the DSS, they had to slam a mortal on his head, butchering him to death.
“While DSS operatives were butchering Adogan, Majasola Igboho Oosa (May peace and blessings of Eedua always be with him) had made his exit to fight another day.
“It was said that the DSS so brutally decapitated Adogan’s body that they were ashamed to leave his body behind. They whisked his body away, but his blood trailed them from Chief Igboho’s living room to the DSS headquarters in Abuja. Trust me; we will take our revenge. RIP my good brother! No going back on the Yoruba nation. Lagos rally goes on, as planned, tomorrow. Ifa Dare.”
It was gathered that Adogan was killed alongside Igboho’s maternal uncle, known as Alfa.
Koiki also said, “One of them was shot by the DSS while a bullet did not kill the other person, they tried shooting at him, but he was not affected, so they butchered him. They killed him in cold blood.”
Recall that the DSS confirmed the attack on Igboho’s house, stating that they killed two allies of the Yoruba rights activist during the invasion of his residence in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Police officers on Saturday dispersed Yoruba nation rally agitators with hot water from a water cannon.
Some of the agitators, who stormed the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, the venue for the Yoruba rally, sang the Yoruba Nation anthem displaying banners, posters and placards containing their demands.

Participants at the rally had arrived at the venue unannounced while the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, addressed journalists.
The police suddenly showered hot water on the agitators causing the agitators to leave the venue.
SaharaReporters gathered that a few minutes later, shots were fired to scare them further away.

Eastern Security Network Commander Makes Shocking Claims About Nnamdi Kanu After Arrest

One of the Commanders of the Eastern Security Network, the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has alleged that members of his group engaged in a killing spree across the Southeast region.
The suspect, Emeoyiri Uzorma Benjamin, alias Onye Army, was arrested by operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team over his alleged involvement in the attacks, killing of security operatives and the destruction of government and private property in Imo State.

Benjamin also confessed to being part of the attacks on security operatives on the alleged instruction of their supreme leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Vanguard reports.
He also claimed that the heads of 10 girls caught in Imo State were used in preparing charms to fortify members of the group against police bullets.
Read Benjamin’s confession below
“I am Emeoyiri Uzorma Benjamin, also known as Onye Army. I am from Uzombe Town in Uguta  Local Government Area of Imo State, I am 28-year-old. I only attended secondary school. But I left school without writing my SSCE exams in 2014 because my father had no money.
“So, I started doing menial jobs and buying Nigeria Army forms and that of the Nigerian Navy, but I was not recruited because I was using my brother’s result. I intended to write my exam and get my result when I get drafted into the army.
“I also went to Lagos, where I secured a job as a security guard with a company that dealt in building materials. I did that job until 2017, when I relocated to my village, where I engaged in carpentry jobs.
“While I was in the village, one John, who is from my town, met me and told me he knew I was trying to join the military but advised me to join IPOB in 2019, so I started attending IPOB meetings in Orlu every Sunday. We used to have the meetings in a building close to the Teaching Hospital.
“I attended the meeting until November 2020 when Mazi Nnamdi Kanu formed the ESN and said he didn’t want any security agents in the South East and that all he wanted was just ESN operatives providing Security in the South East.
“I volunteered to join the ESN and I was trained in a camp close to the Niger Bridge, but I don’t know the name of the village. I spent two weeks in that camp with several other people who came for ESN training from several parts of the country.
“Some people had been in the camp before I joined them but I spent just two weeks in the centre. Before I went to the centre, however, I was at a Sabbath Church in Orlu owned by one Alewa Nwachuku in the Okporo area of Orlu.
“While at the camp, we were given military training and our phones were taken from us. We were not talking to Nnamdi Kanu directly, but we were receiving his instructions from our camp leaders. After our training, we were given boots and uniforms and were asked to go back to our state commanders.
“My state commander was late Ikonso, who was in charge of Imo State before his death. We were not given any money; we returned to our commanders with just the uniforms and the boots. When we got back to Imo State, I reported back to the Sabbath Church, which served as one of our camps at that time.
“Then Nnamdi Kanu ordered that he didn’t want to see any police or military checkpoint in the South East. The order was given through radio, and all the ESN State Commanders asked their fighters to comply with the orders.
“Nnamdi Kanu said we should dismantle all checkpoints and even kill the security agents manning the checkpoints because they were killing Igbo people. I believed him and obeyed the order because I had taken an oath to obey Nnamdi Kanu, the supreme leader of IPOB.
“During our first attack, Ikonso brought two AK47 rifles while two of our members brought two locally made guns which we used to attack a police checkpoint in Orlu where we killed a police officer.
“Two of our members were also killed but the police officers ran away, abandoning their vehicle, which we burnt and took away one of the police rifles. After the operation, we all returned to the Sabbath church owned by Alewa but the police came and attacked the place.
“We then relocated to a farm belonging to one of our members in the Eele area of Awidemili, Anambra State. From there, we attacked several other police stations and checkpoints.
“Then Ikonso, Engineer Mike and Temple organized the attack at the Owerri Prisons and Imo State Police Command, where several inmates were freed and more than 50 police rifles were carted away on the instruction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu because he said nobody deserved to be in prison.
“We came with over 100 fighters, but on our way back to our base, some soldiers attacked us and many of our fighters were killed at Ukorji area of Imo State. We carried out other attacks on security formations in Imo and Anambra states before Ikonso was killed. I was in his residence on the night he was attacked by security agents. I fought with my Ak47 rifle, but I abandoned it and escaped through the back gate when I expended all the bullets in the rifle.
“After the death of Ikonso, we went and burnt the governor’s house and killed a security man in the house in retaliation. It was Engr Mike that led us. I was part of those that shot at the gate.
“We also burnt a house in Amowmama, belonging to someone who was believed to have given the security agents information on Ikonso. Engr Mike then took us to his village in Awedemili, where we attacked a house belonging to someone he said was against our struggle and we killed two persons there.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu also directed us to bury Ikonso with 2,000 human heads but we have killed only 30 so far. I then relocated to Temple’s camp and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ordered us to attack Orlu Police Division and free our fighters arrested and detained there.
“We went in 10 vehicles, over 50 fighters and we had over 30 rifles with us. I was in a white sienna and the late Dragon was in a red-coloured car, but before we got to the police station, we did a shooting display that was circulated on social media on the day we went to attack Orlu police station.
“The white and red clothes we tied on our bodies in the video were charms which we call local bulletproof and we prepared charms with the heads of 10 young girls.
“Before we proceeded to attack the Orlu Police Station, Temple and Mike brought the suggestion that we should get the girls we used for the charms and we got them here in Imo State. But before we got to the Orlu police station, an armoured police vehicle attacked us and killed 12 of our fighters and injured four.
“After we escaped from that attack, we went to our camp at Idiato to relax, waiting for further directives. They are not paying us any money; they said we are freedom fighters.
“Most of the police officers I killed were also Igbo people. I am happy that Nnamdi has been arrested. But I am begging for amnesty from the Federal Government.”
