JAMB Puts 2021 UTME Registration On Hold Over National Identification Number

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has postponed the registration exercise for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry initially slated to commence on Thursday, April 8.
In a statement on Thursday, the board’s head of media and protocol, Fabian Benjamin said the shift was to ensure finishing touches are put on PIN vending processes before the take-off of the exercise.

He said: “The Board’s registration exercise was to begin today 8th April 2021. To be sure all processes are completed before the commencement, the Board didn’t place its advertorial as we have yet to complete the process of a smooth PIN vending and candidate access to the registration app for the 2021 UTME/DE.”
He stated that the advertisement is the surest indication of the beginning of the exercise as it has all the step-by-step processes that candidates are required to follow.
He added: “The delay is caused by some unforeseen circumstances occasioned by our determined effort to have a NIN integration. This challenge is being resolved and once that is done, all processes shall commence.”
While asking candidates to exercise some patience, he said, “The process shall be up and running shortly for our advertisement to be rolled out so that candidates can begin the creation of the profile.”

#FreeKogi2: Yahaya Bello Fails To Learn From Saraki! By Femi Adeyeye

Permit me to share a few things with you which I believe you ought to learn from the experience of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, before his fall from grace.
Everyone following the situation of tyranny unleashed on dissenting Nigerians and in this particular case, the #Kogi2 whom your regime and that of Muhammadu Buhari have continued to subject to illegal and inhumane treatment, will understand that recent history is just repeating itself. That’s why some of us are not too bothered. We understand that it is a “necessary” phase before the walls of oppression finally collapse. An army of fighters is about to be raised in that somewhat docile state wherein you and your cronies think you have the heads of the people in your armpits.

The whole situation is so similar to how the end of the reign of the feeble Bukola Saraki dynasty started in Ilorin, Kwara State. For those who remember, Comrades mobilised from several parts of the country to join other activists in Ilorin to show solidaritywith Sahara Reporters in a “libel” suit filed against the media outfit by Saraki. It was a fight for free press.
No sooner had we arrived than the beating and harassment by thugs started; led by one of the Special Assistants to Saraki.
People were beaten mercilessly, stripped by thugs and then handed over to the police who were ready to do their bidding. Comrade Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed was abducted before a court date and threatened with a gun put to his head to say Omoyele Sowore had sent him down to plant a bomb in the court.
But here was the twist.
Right there in Ilorin on that particular day, the rebellion against the grip on the commonwealth by Saraki’s corrupt hands started. Passers-by who got wind of the reason for the attack on us started throwing stones at the thugs who were beating us. Several rights groups got rejuvenated. It was as if they were waiting for a foreign vaccine in order to come back to life and that was all they needed to challenge the power-drunk Saraki. One protest after the other, and the rest is history today.
I will stop here for now. So, you and your deputy, Edward Onoja should ask Saraki for more details. The baby tyrant who is the Commissioner for Information should also ask Saraki’s media aide, Bamikole Omisore, who is running from pillar to post today, what happened at the time. The days of tyranny are always few. The people will always rise and win.
For now, I join thousands of conscientious Nigerians to call for the immediate and unconditional release of Emmanuel Larry and Anene Victor, who are only protesters against the ruining class.

UK Court Bans Arise TV Chairman, Obaigbena From Serving As Director Of Any Company For 7 Years

The United Kingdom has disqualified the founding Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY Media, ARISE News Channel and ARISE Magazine, Nduka Obaigbena, from serving as a director of any company in the country for seven years.
The application for disqualification was made under Section 6 of the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 and arose from the compulsory liquidation of Arise Networks Ltd of which Obaigbena was the sole director since its incorporation on October 30, 2012.

According to the judgement, published on BAILII, the company had zero turnovers and as of December 31, 2013, it had recorded losses of £3,854,112 and debts of £1,545,883.
Due to foreign exchange restrictions by the Nigerian government in September 2014, it was difficult to “transfer necessary funding to ARISE”.
In December 2014, the company had expense debts of more than £3 million. The debt owed to creditors led to increased pressure from late 2014 onwards due to the company’s inability to pay off its debts.
A paragraph of the judgement partly read: “As of 31 December 2014, the total losses were £12,922,174, with trade creditors (which includes those working for the company) of £3,737,445 and associates being £14,407,929. By 31 December 2015, the total losses were £24,913,106 with the trade creditors (which includes those working for the company) in the sum of £5,635,596 and associates being £19,681,779. By 22 April 2016, the total losses were £25,671,167, trade creditors (which includes those working for the company) £5,850,730 and associated companies £20,313,691. The trade creditors rose by £2,113,285 even taking into account that certain liabilities have been discharged. The associated companies’ debt during this period rose by in excess of £5 million.”
An email quoted in the judgement read, “Hi Kevin/Nduka, Happy anniversary, I have been working under contract for six months at Arise. I’ve been paid one month’s money. February’s money is three months late. Still nothing, when will I get what is owed?”
According to the court, Obaigbena made efforts to clear some payments, but there were still large sums that remained outstanding. With no certainty of when any of the payments would be made, the court took into account that it did not consider the case of dishonesty but rather unreliability.
“However, this does not mean that the case is any less serious. The public interest is served in this case, in my judgement by disqualifying Mr Obaigbena for a period of 7 years,” the judgement read.

A cross-section of Nigerians have taken to social media to comment on the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the launch of a book written in honour of his wife and First Lady, Aisha Buhari.
Prominent Nigerians were at the launch of the book, “Aisha Buhari, Being Different”, which held at the Conference Centre in Aso Rock on Thursday.

Buhari, who is currently in London for a medical check-up, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.
This, however, left many tongues wagging.
Below are some reactions as compiled by Daily Trust:
Aisha Buhari is launching her book today, her husband Baba dey chill for London. How on earth did we expect a scattered family to fix Nigeria? pic.twitter.com/FbESbLlPFX
— Okey (@Okeydegeneral) April 8, 2021
Saw a line or two on the book launch for Aisha Buhari holding today. A lot was said about her being a motivating factor behind Buhari’s political aspirations. I’m keen on knowing her role when he unleashed violence after he lost in 2011. Did she intervene to quell the violence?— theonly1acre (@theonly1acre) April 8, 2021
A Milestone for Aisha Buhari, for being the very First Nigeria’s First lady to write and launch a book while her husband is on a medical journey in London. She indeed was able to lure from far and wide incredible sons and daughter of Nigeria such as Thievnubu,Kogi’s Y.B etc— SurvivalIsTheGoal (@GoalSurvival) April 8, 2021
At least Patience Jonathan would lament, mixed up her grammar over kidnapping & killings in the country. Aisha Buhari stayed in Dubai for 3 months while women & children were getting roasted by terrorists – upon her arrival, sis want to launch a book for hungry Nigerians to read?— FS Yusuf (@FS_Yusuf_) April 4, 2021
‘Not for hungry Nigerians to read, Aisha wants to cash out’. Sis isn’t launching the book for hungry Nigerians to read, or didn’t you see the guest list of about 15 billionaires?? Sis wants to enter market on the 8th of April & take profit that same day ooo!! Just wait till you hear the donations coming in.— H.E. Mobola Adedotun (@IamMobola) April 5, 2021
She Don open office for their head. Aunty Wan cash out…— The real Mccoy (@samchiz) April 5, 2021
It’s all about money bro. Neither Aisha nor her husband cares. As far as their pockets are getting full. They are very satisfied.— Stanley Goodluck (@stanleynanka) April 4, 2021
Madam first lady want collect her own national cake. I think she has been sidelined for long, hence she got her masterstroke of launching a book to help her own treasury.— Jamie _Fash (@IddieFasakin) April 4, 2021
Can two walk together except they agree? There can never be a Buhari with an Aisha. They are so compatible, otherwise, they would not have stayed that long together. #Birdofafeather— Helen Francis (@HellenaFr72) April 4, 2021

E2%80%93-aisha-buhari Why I Chose Nigerian Clinic Instead Of Travelling Abroad For Treatment – Aisha Buhari

First Lady Aisha Buhari has explained her decision to receive treatment at a private clinic when she rejected the idea of going to London, UK after falling ill.
In the book: ‘Aisha Buhari: Being Different’, the first lady narrated the state of Aso Rock Clinic at the time.

Hajo Sani, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Women Affairs, authored the book, which is a biography of the First Lady.
“Another issue that stirred controversy was her statement on 9 October 2017, at a stakeholders’ meeting on Reproductive Maternal, Nutrition, Child Advocacy and Health, and Nutrition (RMNCAHN) at the State House, Abuja, in which she spoke about issues of national importance concerning healthcare services. She found it appalling that when she fell ill, she was advised to travel to London for treatment, though she refused.
“Unfortunately, the State House clinic at Aso Rock, had not been functioning efficiently to provide needed medical services to the first family and other government functionaries.
“It was on this note that she condemned the management of the clinic, adding that the health centre did not have the facilities to treat patients. According to her, she had to visit a private clinic after she discovered that the X-ray machine of the State House clinic was not working. She has been consistent in warning politicians against politicising the issues of health and women empowerment,” Sani wrote.
Aisha’s husband is currently receiving medical treatment in London.

E2%80%94 How Nigerian Soldiers Are Killing, Displacing Innocent Citizens In Benue Over Attack On Convoy — AAC Party Cries Out

The Benue State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the ongoing attacks by the Nigerian military personnel on innocent citizens in Benue communities.
The party alleged that men of Nigerian Army have not even spared children, women and elders residing in seven communities of Shangev-Tiev in the Konshisha local government area of the state.

According to a statement signed by the state chairman of the party, Comrade Rex Elanu, and made available to SaharaReporters on Thursday, the survivors of the raids have been displaced.
The party explained that soldiers were provoked by an attack on their convoy by armed bandits in the area, and since then have unleashed terror on the residents of the community.
“The attention of the African Action Congress (AAC) Benue State chapter has been drawn to the incessant destruction of lives and properties in no fewer than seven communities of Shangev-Tiev in Konshisha LGA of Benue State.

EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian Military Invade Benue Community, Kill Over 30 Villagers, Set Ablaze Monarch Palace, 200 Houses

“We are reliably informed that in the last 3 days, men of the Nigeria military under the ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ have launched series of attacks on the unarmed civilian population in over 7 communities in Shangev-Tiev, killing and displacing residents including children, women and the elderly.
“The mayhem which was reportedly provoked by an attack on a military convoy by armed bandits who terrorise the area, has since witnessed a misplaced reprisal attack by soldiers with heavy gunfire on unarmed civilians around the area, using both aerial and ground troops to cause colossal destruction.
“Although the bandits reportedly fled immediately after attacking the military convoy, the surrounding communities who needed help from the Nigeria military to get rid of the bandits, are the ones now paying with their lives and properties, to the extent of becoming displaced persons in their own state,” Elanu said in the statement.
As the party demands the withdrawal of the Nigerian soldiers in the troubled areas, it also called on the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to secure the country.
“Gungul, Aku and Mbaakpuur communities are being razed down by the Nigerian soldiers. These are communities over 30 kilometres away from the scene where military personnel were reportedly attacked by bandits.
“We want to state emphatically that such an act of terror and impunity is completely reckless, barbaric, inhumane, tyrannical and unexpected from the Nigerian military. Therefore, we demand the immediate withdrawal of the military troops from the affected communities, immediate provision of relief materials to the affected and displaced persons, compensation for the affected communities and prosecution of the military men involved in such a heinous and criminal act.
“We wish to also restate our demand for the resignation of General Muhammad Buhari who has become very insensitive to the security challenges in the country, failing consistently as the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
“African Action Congress (AAC) Benue State, heartily commiserates with families who lost their loved ones during the attacks and whose houses and properties have been destroyed.
“While we continue looking up to God for help, we must also as a matter of necessity, begin to mobilise massively in order to resist and eliminate this minute percentage of ‘political monsters’ in power, through every legitimate means possible: the reason we always recommend #RevolutionNow Protests,” the statement added.
