UN Watch Accuses Museveni Of Killing, Imprisoning, Silencing Opponents In Congratulatory Message

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni

A human rights organisation, United Nations Watch, has accused Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, of silencing his opponents for re-election into office.
Museveni was announced winner of the election by the electoral commission on Saturday with 58.6 percent of the vote, in an election disputed by his main rival, Bobi Wine, who trailed with 34.8 percent.

But, on Monday, The UN Watch took to its Twitter account to allege that Museveni committed “widespread voter fraud” to win the just-concluded presidential election.
The group tackled the 76-year-old for shutting down the country’s Internet ahead of the election.
The post read, “Congratulations to Uganda President Yoweri Museveni on winning re-election after murdering, imprisoning and silencing opponents, shutting down the Internet, and committing widespread voter fraud.”

E2%80%99t-%E2%80%93-alaafin-oyo Amotekun Operatives Killing People, Doing Job God Doesn’t Like – Alaafin Of Oyo

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, has assured Fulani communities in Oyo State of safety just as he berated the activities of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, saying ‘they are doing the job God doesn’t like.’
According to Daily Trust, Alaafin stated this while receiving the leadership of the Fulani herdsmen in his palace on Sunday.

There has been controversy surrounding some activities of Amotekun in the last few weeks following allegations of extrajudicial killing and abuse of human rights by some members of the corps in Oyo state.
Reacting to the disturbing trend and the alleged attack on a Fulani settlement in the Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of the state, Alaafin said, “A lot of people in Yorubaland do not know that Fulani are different from one another: there are those who are into trading, and also those settlers that are into cattle rearing and also those that roam about from Niger, Burkina Faso; this set also troubles those Fulani in our midst, they are a problem to all of us, including the Fulani.
“The word Fulani is like saying Yoruba, if an Ekiti man does something wrong, they will say Yoruba. If a Lagos man does something (wrong), they will say Yoruba.”
The royal father also criticised the mode of operations of Amotekun Corps saying “there is no way they can operate without the cooperation of other security agencies”.
“Amotekun cannot work successfully without the DSS, Police, VGN and including that of Miyetti Allah,” he added.

The monarch also alleged that operatives of the regional security outfit have been killing policemen.
He said, “When did you hear that VGN (Vigilante Group of Nigeria) of Fulani killed police? The Fulani amidst us can identify whomever is coming to do evil because we have them among us that can differentiate the Fulani from Kano and other parts of the country.
“Let your mind be at peace. I will talk to the governor on your behalf, because he wants to know the truth. Amotekun (officers) that are going about with guns are doing the job not given to them, Amotekun (officers) are doing the job God doesn’t like.
“Because they are in uniform does not mean they can terrorise the community by collecting money from citizens, but I’ve not heard that the Fulani VGN or Miyetti Allah living among us ever collected money from anybody.
“All of us are now family and I must not join them to do evil, they all know I have confidence to speak the truth.”
The delegation included leaders of Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State under the leadership of Sarkin Fulani of Oke-Ogun, Alhaji Yakubu Bello, and the state chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Abubakar Jiji.

E2%80%98working-kidnappers Ekiti Court Sentences Assistant Commissioner Of Police To Life Imprisonment For ‘Working With Kidnappers’

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, has sentenced an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Okubo Aboye, to life imprisonment for buying stolen vehicle from kidnappers in the state.
Aboye was sentenced to life imprisonment alongside his mechanic, Niyi Ibrahim Afolabi, on Monday.

The court also sentenced seven others: Solomon Ayodele Obamoyegun (39), Femi Omiawe (40), Damilola Obamoyegun (20), Bose Sade Ajayi (30), George Lucky (35), Chukwuma Nnamani (22) and Sunday Ogunleye (45) to five years imprisonment each without an option of fine for kidnapping.
In their testimony, the investigating police officers said the stolen car was tracked to the compound of ACP Okubo, whom on interrogation confessed that he bought the vehicle from his mechanic who received it from the kidnappers.
The prosecutor, Felix Awoniyi, revealed that “the offence runs contrary to sections 346(2), 1(2)a, and Section 5 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 laws of Ekiti State, 2012 and Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
The charge indicated that the offence was committed between 9th and 19th of May, 2005 at GRA, Ado-Ekiti, when the 1st to 7th accused, armed with guns to kidnap one Moses Ajogri, 40, robbed him of his Toyota Hilux van with registration number — APP 509 BK.
In his judgement, Justice John Adeyeye found the Assistant Commissioner of Police guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment accordingly.
“I found you guilty of receiving stolen vehicle. All evidence pointed to the fact that you were aware that the car was stolen. You are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence.
“Kidnapping people for ransom is very rampant in not only the state but in Nigeria as a whole. The court will be failing in its duty to protect the members of the society if adequate punishment is not given to the accused persons,” he said.

E2%80%99s-government-%E2%80%93utomi Why Biden Will Not Support Buhari’s Government –Utomi

Patrick Utomi

A former presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, has said the incoming administration of the US President-elect, Joe Biden, will not support the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Utomi disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Monday.

Patrick Utomi

This comes amidst preparations for the inauguration of Biden and Vice President-elect, Harris Kamala, as the 46th President and Vice President of the United States.
Utomi said the former US President Barack Obama and his then-deputy, Biden, backed a regime change in Nigeria in 2015 but the change “has not done the West African country any good”.
The political economist said, “Obama was an extreme activist in seeking regime change in Nigeria because of the vast corruption and many of us supported the move but we later found out that the corruption did not change; Nigeria is more corrupt today than it was in the past.
“So, Biden will go back to a more liberal engagement with Nigeria but he is not going to be supportive of the incumbent (Buhari) the way Obama was because they can see that the incumbent fails to bring Nigeria together or move it forward, because they have now realised that Nigeria has become a more dangerous place to live.”
The Democrats defeated the Republican incumbents –Donald Trump and his deputy, Mike Pence – in the November 3, 2020 election.
The Trump presidency has been heavily criticised for unpopular policies and actions with the invasion of the Capitol by the incumbent’s supporters being the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Utomi averred that the Republican outgoing president left a legacy of disruption.
He described the Trump presidency as a very peculiar one that came outside known political establishments.
“The Donald Trump presidency was a war without end from the very beginning because the traditional establishments never expected him to win,” Utomi said.
He further said Trump lost his re-election bid because he was distracted fighting wars and so couldn’t consolidate his government.
“Trump boasts of being a deal-maker but he proved to be a failure because of the ultimate deal he couldn’t make – with the traditional establishments. He was too reliant, too arrogant with his hold on his base and he continues with the base to the point that he never succeeded in building an acceptable base that would give him a sustainable presidency,” he added.

According to the ACF, the herdsmen also have problems in the north.

Guardian Nigeria

The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, stated this in an interview with SaharaReporters, adding that the forum would make its full stance known later.
He said, “We would have preferred the herdsmen themselves to comment on it. The ACF is not only made of herdsmen; we are the conglomeration of so many interests. So, we normally don’t want to rush into such things, unless we know the facts.
“Herdsmen even have problems in the North – it is not only in the South. We prefer the herdsmen to talk first.”
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria had in its interview with SaharaReporters stated that the agreement it had with the Ondo State Government was to stop night grazing and use of underage boys to graze cattle, but not to vacate forest reserves.

BREAKING: Akeredolu Orders Fulani Herdsmen To Vacate Ondo Forests Within A Week, Bans Night Grazing

The statement read, “We have taken major steps at addressing the root cause of kidnapping, in particular, and other nefarious activities detailed and documented in security reports, the press and debriefings from victims of kidnap cases in Ondo State.
“These unfortunate incidents are traceable to the activities of some bad elements masquerading as herdsmen.  These felons have turned our forest reserves into hideouts for keeping victims of kidnapping, negotiating for ransoms and carrying out other criminal activities.
“As the Chief Law and Security Officer of the State, it is my constitutional obligation to do everything lawful to protect the lives and property of all residents of the state. In light of the foregoing, the following orders are hereby issued:
“All Forest Reserves in the state are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next seven days with effect from today, Monday 18th, January, 2021. Night grazing is banned with immediate effect because most farm destruction takes place at night.
“Movement of cattle within cities and highways is prohibited. Underage grazing of cattle is outlawed.
“In its usual magnanimity, our administration will give a grace period of seven days for those who wish to carry on with their cattle-rearing business to register with appropriate authorities. Our resolution to guarantee safety of lives and property within the state shall remain utmost as security agencies have been directed to enforce the ban.”
Akeredolu’s directive was informed by the killings and kidnappings happening in the state, which have largely been blamed on Fulani herdsmen.

Nigerian Doctor Suspended For Beating Son In UK, Reinstated After Blaming Action On Cultural Upbringing

A Nigerian consultant based in the United Kingdom, Adekunle Okunuga, suspended for beating his 10-year-old son, has been reinstated.
According to reports, Okunuga was suspended late last year after he caned his 10-year-old son with a kitchen brush for misbehaving at school.

The consultant has however been given the all-clear to return to medicine, by the MPTS (Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service) chairman, Sharmistha Michaels, who said Okunuga was very unlikely to repeat his actions.
On the day of the incident, the boy only identified as Child A to hide his identity as he is a minor – had been facing expulsion for swearing, using the word ‘rape’, and stamping on an injured girl during a PE (physical education) lesson.
When his parents picked him up from school, Okunuga began slapping his son in the car from the passenger seat.
The young child was made to perform squat thrusts and stand on one leg with his arms in the air.
Whenever his child lost his balance, Okunuga reportedly hit him with the handle of the floor brush on the back of his legs and then kicked him to make him stand upright again.
A report in Mail Online also said the consultant anesthetist went to fetch a hammer and destroyed Child A’s games consoles before caning the boy across his open palms with a walking stick. He stopped when he became aware the boy had wounds on his hands that were bleeding.
The boy was treated in hospital for cuts and bruises and was later taken temporarily into foster care.
Okunuga was arrested and convicted in September 2014 at Leamington Spa Magistrates’ Court for ill-treating a child and was sentenced to eight weeks in jail suspended for a year with a requirement to complete 160 hours of unpaid work after being found guilty of serious professional misconduct by a disciplinary panel.
Earlier this month, the order was lifted and he was deemed fit to practise medicine again after the doctor, who worked at University Hospital Coventry, admitted his behaviour was ‘excessive and uncalled for’.
He blamed his conduct on his ‘cultural upbringing’ in Nigeria.
He said he had grown up in a “different era, when physical chastisement of children was seen as part of a child’s discipline” and told the hearing: “My actions towards Child A were excessive and uncalled for, and I accept I caused harm to Child A.
“My actions embarrassed the medical profession and brought it into disrepute and as a member of the medical community, I should be a role model. I apologise sincerely to the GMC (General and the wider public.
“My behaviour was borne out of my cultural upbringing, I should have known better and I take full responsibility for my actions. If I were to witness a similar occurrence by one of my colleagues, I would be the first to speak up and take action and report it to the appropriate authorities.”
He added: “I have been working abroad but have always given full disclosure of my sanction to all employers and the relevant medical authorities.
“I have attended courses in order to maintain my professional development and am clinically ready to resume practice in the United Kingdom where I could be of tremendous support to the medical community.”
In giving Okunuga the all-clear to return to medicine, MPTS chairman, Ms. Sharmistha Michaels, said: “Then tribunal noted that Child A was returned to Dr. Okunuga four months after the incident, and a child protection order placed on Dr. Okunuga was removed three months after this in January 2015.
“The Tribunal was mindful this was an isolated incident and noted the 2015 panel found that the risk of Dr. Okunuga repeating his actions was very low.
“There has been no evidence of any repetition in the six-and-a-half years since the incident. Dr. Okunuga has reflected on his actions and developed significant insight into their impact since the hearing in 2015. He has been open and honest about his actions and apologised fully and sincerely.
“In his reflective statement, he understands the 2015 panel was ‘fair and just in its decision’.
“He also stated it was naïve of him to think that the incident was a ‘private matter’ which had no bearing on his professional conduct.
“The tribunal considered that Dr. Okunuga had now developed sufficient insight into how his actions had impacted on public confidence and the need to maintain and uphold proper standards of behaviour.
“His expressions of remorse are genuine. There are no public safety concerns in relation to Dr Okunuga. He would be fit to return to unrestricted practice in the UK given his current medical skills.”

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has said that the agreement it had with the Ondo State Government was to stop night grazing and use of underage boys to graze cattle, adding that it could not be true that herders had been asked to vacate forest reserves in the state.
The Miyetti Allah National Secretary, Baba Usman, stated this in an interview with SaharaReporters on Monday in reaction to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s statement that Fulani herdsmen had seven days to vacate forest reserves in the state.

Usman noted that the meeting the cattle breeders had with the state government did not include the vacation of forest reserves in the state.
He said, “I just spoke with my Ondo branch chairman. The governor of Ondo State emphasised on stopping night grazing and not allowing minors to graze cows. These were small boys and that was the agreement we had with the governor during our last visit to Ondo State sometime last year.
“We jointly agreed to stop allowing minors to graze cows. And we jointly stopped night grazing. But that was what was emphasised by the governor. So, it is not true that any Fulani man was asked to leave Ondo State.
“Nothing like forest reserves; the chairman told me that the governor asked them to stop grazing around towns and schools; they should go to the forests and graze. They should not allow small boys to graze because that is what is causing problems. So, it is not true that he asked Fulani men to leave Ondo State. It is not true.”
Governor Akeredolu on Monday reportedly ordered Fulani herdsmen to vacate all forest reserves in the state within seven days.

The attack was said to have happened in the Jibowu area of the state.

David Ntekim-Rex

In 2018, Ntekim-Rex beat 17,000 contestants from around the world, including finalists from Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Nepal, and the United States to emerge as the co-regional winner of the annual Master the Mainframe competition, organised by AngelHack and IBM Z Academic Initiative.
A Twitter user named Roy Mustang, @Magnanimous_, who identified himself as a relative of the deceased, said Ntekim-Rex, who was the son of Dr. Yewande Ntekim-Rex, a senior lecturer at the English Department, University of Lagos was shot around 8 pm.
Mustang said the police were contacted but that on their arrival, they were concerned about taking pictures and probing why the systems engineer had a laptop on him.
He said, “My ‘auntie’ has three sons. She’s always crazy about them. The middle child, David, was the most promising. He was a tech guy; very young, very brilliant. David was on his way home on Friday night when he was robbed, shot and killed around Jibowu. Please, say a prayer for my aunt.
“David got shot around 8 pm. The police were called, David hadn’t died yet. The Nigeria police took pictures instead and were more concerned about why he, a tech guy, was carrying a laptop. “David was taken to the military hospital around the area. It took a senior nurse to come out and start checking for a pulse. He had lost a lot of blood at this point.
“The police then took David and his family to Sabo (police station), where they looked for the laptop that he had on him instead of giving them a police report. He was finally released to his family, and they got to LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital) around 12.30 am. The police then took david and his family to Sabo, where they looked for the laptop that he had on him instead of giving them a police report. CAN To Zulum: No Christian Will Kill Like Boko Haram, Provide Proof Of Christian Members

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum (L); CAN President, Olasupo Ayokunle

The Christian Association of Nigeria has challenged the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, to post photo and video evidence of Christians whom he claimed are members of the notorious terror group, Boko Haram.
CAN General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, who stated this in an interview with The PUNCH on Monday, was reacting to allegations by Zulum that Christians are members of the Abubakar Shekau terror group.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum (L); CAN President, Olasupo Ayokunle

Zulum had alleged on Friday at an event in Lagos that Asians, foreigners and other Africans are part of the terror group.

Some Boko Haram Members Are Christians, White Men, Asians – Borno Governor, Zulum

The governor had said, “I’m from Borno State, and many of our children are into Boko Haram. I’m not denying the fact. But again, they are being sponsored by many people across the world. Among Boko Haram, we have white men, Asians, Africans, Muslims and Christians.”
Many Nigerians had since doubted the Zulum’s claim as Boko Haram had consistently identified with Islam. The terror group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, had also at several times featured in videos speaking Arabic and citing Quranic verses.
Reacting on Monday, Daramola cautioned the governor to stop mudslinging, adding that the terror group had shown in several videos where they belonged.
The CAN top official said, “Anyone who accuses the other must be able to prove it. For the governor to say such, then he must have evidence. Let him post the photo and video evidence on social media of Christians who are Boko Haram members. I don’t think there should be any fuss. Anybody can say anything.
“We have seen them (Boko Haram) on videos carrying flags and identifying themselves. So, let these criminals that the governor knows identify themselves as criminals. It is that simple. Nobody should mud-sling. It is a very bad thing. Whether they are Christians or Muslims, the act is very bad on its own and should be condemned.”
Daramola said no Christian would carry such weapons as used by Boko Haram members to kill fellow human beings.
“No Christian will carry those weapons to kill fellow humans. The commandments of God explicitly stated that thou shall not kill and you don’t kill either physically or any form. Christians that are Christians will never engage in that. If Zulum has his facts, let him put it out.”
For over 10 years, the Boko Haram terror group had killed hundreds of Nigerians in the North-East. The sect had also burnt down and bombed scores of villages as well as churches. The Nigerian Army and the Presidency had at several times claimed the group had been ‘technically defeated’ and ‘weakened’ but the Abubakar Shekau’s bloodthirsty faction continues to strike with daring effrontery and crude savagery.
