We Have Been Abandoned, NYSC Members In COVID-19 Isolation Centre Raise Alarm

Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Jigawa State who allegedly tested positive for COVID-19 have allegedly been abandoned at the state’s isolation centre.
According to the corps members who are currently under quarantine at Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital, Dutse, they have been in the isolation centre for 14 days, even though they showed no symptoms.

“We were to return to camp on the 15th of this month but they conducted COVID-19 test and said we were positive.
“We have been in the isolation centre for 14 days now without showing any symptoms. The pain of celebrating Christmas here can’t be described; they said Jigawa State doesn’t adopt the method of releasing COVID-19 patient after 14 days without symptoms,” one of them said.
The Jigawa State government had on December 15, 2020 announced it discovered eight new cases of COVID-19 among members of the NYSC posted to the state.

E2%80%99re-not-god-so-ill-give-you-fire-fire-fani-kayode-replies-pastor-bakare You’re Not God So I’ll Give You Fire For Fire, Fani-Kayode Replies Pastor Bakare

The war of words between a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and a Senior Pastor of the Citadel Global Community, Lagos State, Tunde Bakare, does not seem like it will end soon as the ex-minister has asked the cleric to respond to the questions he had raised earlier about his (Bakare’s) alleged ugly past.
Fani-Kayode noted that though he had an ugly past and was troubled over 30 years ago in Ghana, he was not ashamed of it, and was ready to answer Bakare “fire for fire”.

Bakare had on Tuesday dared Fani-Kayode and the spokesperson for Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, to expose his “supposed ugly past and feel free to publish it.”
Bakare had for the first time reacted to the statements he made about a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying that Fani-Kayode was in the grip of Satan when he (Bakare) ministered Jesus Christ to his mother in the recent past.
Earlier, Fani-Kayode had on Monday called out Pastor Bakare over the accolades he showered on the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Tinubu, noting that he did not know “who was dragging Bakare’s balls.”
But in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, Bakare dared Fani-Kayode to expose the supposed ugly past he (Bakare) had.

Expose My Ugly Past Over Tinubu Comment, Pastor Bakare Dares Fani-Kayode, Odumakin

To this, Fani-Kayode replied in another statement, “Yinka (Odumakin), tell Tunde Arewa that I only asked questions. I made no assertions and indulged in no falsehood. I simply asked him to clear the air. Can’t we ask questions? Is he God? Why is he so upset? Why can’t he just answer the questions rather than get his knickers in a twist?
“In any case, why is he sending you to me? If he is a man, let him reach me himself and not send you to me. I do not react well to threats and you are not his messenger. If he has anything to say to me, let him say it. I am waiting. And I will respond to him fire for fire.
“As for my past, he can say what he likes. Nothing is hidden. I have given my testimony publicly many times, including before the Nigerian Senate and I have always said that I am a living manifestation of God’s mercy and grace. Everyone has a past. No one is an angel, including him.
“I was troubled 30 years ago. I went to a Bible school in Ghana. God delivered me and my life was never the same again. End of story. That is my testimony and it is a great and miraculous one. That is why I am a believer.  That is why I am so proud of the God that I serve.”
Fani-Kayode added that if the devil wanted to “use my past against me, I will use his future against him. Let God judge.”

Who Is Squeezing Bakare’s Balls? By Femi Fani-Kayode

Fani-Kayode had said, “On October 28, 2019, Pastor Tunde Bakare said the following, ‘Tinubu will give account for all his deeds. He should not be seen as a generous man; he is an integral part of the rot in Nigeria.’
“Curiously, just one year and two months later, on December 20, 2020, the same Tunde Bakare changed the music and said the following about the same man.
“He said, ‘People should see Tinubu as a Yoruba hero, he shouldn’t be vilified. Like Jephthah the Gileadite, he has fought many battles on behalf of the Yoruba people and won despite his rough beginning and God does not need anybody’s permission to put such in his hall of fame despite their past deeds and ancestry.’”
“Is he being blackmailed? Are his balls being squeezed by a hidden hand? Is there a deep secret somewhere that we know nothing about and that they are dangling over his head like a sword of Damocles?
“Could this volte face have been motivated by the fact that an unsavoury event which allegedly took place in 1990 in the life of the pastor was about to be exposed by the Tinubu camp? I’m not making any allegations here: I’m only asking a question.
“Again, could it have anything to do with an allegedly ugly situation with a bank whose ownership recently changed hands?” Fani-Kayode further said.
Similarly, the Afenifere spokesperson described the accolades Bakare showered on Tinubu as displeasing.
In his column in a Nigerian newspaper, Odumakin wrote, “It is the very height of the abuse of the rostrum for a pastor to say to us no matter how God-forsaken the country has become that if somebody is accused of being a thief, the rest of us should go and become thieves as well.”

Alleged Assault: Justice Will Be Served, Seen By All, Says Deeper Life School Education Secretary

Deeper Life Bible Church logo

Deeper Christian Life Ministry has vowed to ensure justice is served in the case of molestation and assault on Don Davis Archibong, a Junior Secondary School 1 student of the Deeper Life High School, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The church has come under intense public criticism of its silence on the issue.

Deeper Life Bible Church logo

Reacting to this in a video on Tuesday, the Educational Secretary of the Deeper Life High School, Thelma Malaka, said the church had been quiet because there was an ongoing investigation into the matter.
According to Malaka, the police are currently investigating the matter and have invited staff members and students involved in the issue for interrogations.
However, she said the detailed interrogations had to be postponed due to the Christmas holiday but noted that a new date would soon be communicated by the police authorities.
She also enjoined the public to be on the lookout for the final reports of the investigation, saying it would be as transparent as possible.
She said, “This is a further statement to the first we shared to discerning observers on the allegation of molestation of a JSS 1 student, Don Davis at our Uyo campus, Akwa Ibom state.
“First and foremost, permit me to remind you that the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State has taken over the investigation of the matter to ensure neutrality and dispassionate outcome; we appreciate the concerned efforts of everyone who has shown support for the investigation thus far.
“We reiterate that we will be transparent and that justice will not only be served, it will be seen by all that it has been served.
“Recall that we had earlier suspended the principal of the affected campus and initiated an investigation into the matter. We decided to restrain ourselves from further comments after the first update because we thought it is sub judice to comment on a matter currently under investigation.
“However, considering the potential part of this issue, especially on what we stand for, we are compelled to provide an early update before the final report is released by the government. The panel has sat and we have presented staff members and students of our school who have been mentioned in this particular case all through the period of investigation.
“We believe that the government will share the final report once the investigation is concluded.
“Secondly, as a parent myself, I do care about the mental and physical health of Don Davis who has been at the centre of this issue. Despite the intriguing undermining, we will continue to show our love to him within the limits permitted by his parents.
“We have unflinching confidence in our God, to resolve the issue such that at the end, the truth will ultimately prevail.
“Thirdly, I will like to let you know that the police are currently investigating this matter and we have been invited to share our own side of the story, the detailed interrogation was however adjourned due to the holidays.
“We believe that a new date will be communicated as soon as possible by the police authorities.
“Finally, we would like to restate that Deeper Life High School stands on the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not attempt to cover up any immoral act under any guise.
“We enjoin the public to be on the lookout for the final report as will be released by the appropriate authorities soon.”
Eleven-year-old Don Davis was allegedly assaulted and starved by the senior pupils of the school. The pupil’s mother, Deborah Okezie, had cried out to Nigerians, pleading for help to get justice for her son who had been molested by his senior students and starved consistently at the Uyo Campus of the school despite the full payment of school fees.
She said she had gone to pick him up from the school on a Friday but noticed that he was sick and had not been attended to. The mother also alleged that she noticed her son was not able to sit properly, which prompted her to check his buttocks. From the look of his anus, Deborah said her son had been sexually molested.  This was said to have been confirmed by doctors at the hospital where Don Davis was taken.

SIM Registration: NIMC Issues New Guidelines For National Identification Number Applicants

The National Identity Management Commission has issued fresh guidelines for applicants to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN).
Kayode Adegoke, the spokesman for the commission, in a statement on Tuesday titled, ‘NIMC Adopts Booking System For NIN Enrolment,’ urged all applicants to use face masks, maintain social distancing and wash their hands while at its centres across the country.

The statement further reads, “Mindful of the second wave of the COVID-19 which continues to severely affect public health and cause unprecedented disruptions, the Commission wishes to announce that it has adopted a couple of measures to contain the spread of the virus whilst ensuring its services to Nigerians are not entirely interrupted.
“Effective December 30, 2020, attending to applicants would be based on Booking System. For Bookings, applicants are to visit any of the NIMC Offices closest to them during stipulated business hours (9am – 1pm).
“Once admitted into the office, a Number-Issuing queue management system will be in place to ensure orderliness and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.”
Several Nigerians had on Tuesday gathered at the offices of the commission in Lagos and Abuja, to register for their National Identification Number (NIN).
Several people who gathered at the offices flouted COVID-19 protocols put in place to check the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
It was observed that the majority of them did not use their face masks and physical distancing was not observed.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, had initially issued a two-week ultimatum to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number.
It later extended registration for NIN by up to six weeks, from December 30, 2020 to February 9, 2021
A statement jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz, said, “Based on the endorsement of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the following resolutions were made: Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December 2020 to 19th January 2021; and six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December 2020 to 9th February 2021.”

Family Seeks Release Of Son’s Corpse Killed In Police Custody, Demands N50m Compensation,

The family of Godstime Akugbo who was allegedly killed while in the custody of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State police in 2007 have asked the Judicial Commission of Inquiry sitting in the state to make the police produce the remains of the deceased.
According to the family, they need to give the late Akugbo a befitting burial.

The family also demanded N50 million as compensation for the alleged killing of Akugbo.
Michael Akugbo, elder brother of the deceased, who petitioned the panel, said the late Akugbo died in detention a few days after he was arrested by the police in October 207 on spurious claims that he was in possession of marijuana.
“We want the panel to help compel the Nigeria Police to release my brother’s corpse to us. We also want the perpetrators of the heinous crime against my brother to be brought to justice. Also, we want the Nigeria Police to pay us compensation of N50 million,” he said.

Expose My Ugly Past Over Tinubu Comment, Pastor Bakare Dares Fani-Kayode, Odumakin

The Senior Pastor of the Citadel Global Community, Lagos State, Tunde Bakare, has dared a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and the spokesperson for Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, to expose his “supposed ugly past and feel free to publish it”.
Bakare on Tuesday for the first time, reacted to the statements he made about a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying that Fani-Kayode was in the grip of Satan when he (Bakare) ministered Jesus Christ to his mother in the recent past.

Fani-Kayode had on Monday called out Pastor Bakare over the accolades he gave to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Tinubu, noting that he did not know “who was dragging Bakare’s balls.”

Similarly, the Afenifere spokesperson described Bakare’s accolades for Tinubu as displeasing, while questioning the morality of praising him.
In his column in a Nigerian newspaper, Odumakin wrote, “It is the very height of the abuse of the rostrum for a pastor to say to us no matter how God-forsaken the country has become that if somebody is accused of being a thief, the rest of us should go and become thieves as well.”
In a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, Pastor Bakare dared Fani-Kayode to expose the supposed ugly past he (Bakare) had.
Bakare said, “Good morning Yinka, Hope you are much better?  I have just read Femi Fani-Kayode’s piece where he quoted you and others.
“As he described you affectionately as his brother in the piece, I believe you are either companions or must be in the same league or camp.
“I have only one appeal to make through you to him: Tell him to expose my supposed ‘ugly past of 1990’ he must know about and the shady deals involving some bank that just changed hands that involved me in any shape or manner.
“If Femi does not do so as soon as possible then he has published deliberate falsehood about me. I will await this publication soonest.
“For the sake of Femi’s mother, who I ministered Christ to in their Papa home while Femi himself was still in the grip of Satan, I will hold my peace for now.
“My last word to you and to the likes of Femi is that 10,000 times 10,000 of Tinubu or any one for that matter has nothing on me to make me say the words I spoke for and against him either in the past or now.”
Bakare noted that no one in Nigeria “or elsewhere in the world can blackmail me over anything done in the past to anyone or with anyone”.
“If you or him or any other person know of any shady deal that I have done with any individual, corporation or government, please feel free to publish it.
“Yinka Odumakin, I cannot thank you enough for reading this long epistle in your present state and for distributing same on your different platforms.”

E2%80%93-telecoms-operators Two Million Youths Made Jobless With Suspension Of SIM Registration – Telecoms Operators

The Arewa Telecom Operators Agents and Simcard Dealers Association has alleged that over two million Nigerian youths have been rendered jobless by the recent suspension of the SIM card registration and activation by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
The association made the claim while addressing journalists in Kaduna on Monday.

The telecoms operators said they were aware of the Nigerian government’s intention to address security challenges through linkage of National Identity Number (NIN) with mobile numbers and suspension of registration of new SIM cards.
They, however, feared that rendering two million youths jobless might worsen the security challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the dealers, the association President, Hassan Yakubu said, “As a registered association under the Corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with registration number CAC/IT/NO131761 and with the Nigeria Communications Commission volume number as NCC/CAB/2019/VOL.1/011, we are fully in support of the Nigerian government’ measures to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.”
He, however, observed that the Nigerian government must tread carefully, considering that all available research works on the causes of insecurity across the country had been linked primarily to youth unemployment.
He stated that the income of telecoms business partners, staff and agents, the majority of whom are within the age bracket of 20 to 40 years in the value chain, is determined by the number of activations and SIM registrations carried out within the month.
Yakubu said, “The suspension of SIM card registration may trigger another worse form of insecurity, especially in zones most affected by the insecurity.
“In fact, the growth in the telecoms sector is determined by the very sub-sector that was suspended and the much celebrated 17 per cent contribution by the telecoms sector on the Gross Domestic Product was as a result of the activities of the sub-sector under suspension.
“We therefore wish to advise that the Nigerian Government can still achieve the desired result as well as avoid creating more problems in an attempt to solve a problem if the suspension is reversed immediately to avoid the danger the suspension may expose the youths to.”

E2%80%99s-low-covid-19-cases-deaths Nigerians Knock Bill Gates Over Comment On Africa’s Low COVID-19 Cases, Deaths

Bill Gates

Nigerians have taken to the social media to lambast the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates, over his recent comment that he did not know why COVID-19 cases and deaths were low in Africa as against the grim casualty figures in developed countries.
Gates, in a recent statement shared on his website, said it was possible that the figures provided were not real due to the gaps in health care systems in Africa.

Bill Gates

Harry Graphic

The billionaire and his wife, Melinda Gates, had, at the inception of the pandemic, predicted that Africa would be worst hit by COVID-19.
Their prediction, however, has been far from the truth as figures of infections from Africa have remained relatively low.
Therefore, following his recent statement, several Nigerians have taken to Twitter to criticise him, saying they wondered why he was interested in seeing a high rate of COVID-19 infections in Africa.
Some of those who commented on the issue argued that Gates might be concerned because of his alleged interest in getting COVID-19 vaccines to Africa as soon as possible.
A Twitter user, whose handle is @talk2mrjyde, said, “If it’s about the vaccine, I’m sorry the vaccine is dead on arrival. Nigerian government should not spend any N542 billion on any COVID-19 vaccine, unless they want to use it for money laundering because no matter what they say, no matter the attempts (they make), Nigerians will not take that vaccine.”

We Don’t Know Why COVID-19 Cases, Deaths Are Not High In Africa — Bill Gates

Another user identified as Apostle Arinze Nonso, whose handle is @ApostleNonso, said Gates and his wife were simply confused after their earlier predictions failed.
He wrote, “Bill & Melinda Gates aren’t medical doctors, suddenly they’re leading medical research & development in the world. That’s suspicious. They predicted Africa would be the worst hit by COVID-19, God turned down their prediction that they wouldn’t be able to perform their enterprise. Now they’re confused.”
“God disappoints the devices of the crafty and their hands cannot perform their enterprise! Job 5:12; that is the reason,” Ijeoma Ini-Inyang wrote using @zaijaymain.
Enahoro Asije, with the handle @EAsije, also quoted a Bible verse, saying, “Genesis 50:20 (KJV) But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
“There are some things science cannot explain; I remember when Melinda Gates said she foresaw dead bodies littering the streets of Africa due to the coronavirus pandemic but it hasn’t been so,” another Twitter user, Vhytues @vhytues, wrote.

The Ambassador (@TheAmba97263831) said Africans already have to deal with poverty, bad leadership among other things, so it would be unfair if the continent had to also contend with many deaths from the virus.
He said, “Oga Bill Gates, what’s your own in our matter? With all the poverty, bad leadership and the likes we have, you want to add COVID-19 deaths. Your bad belle (evil) plans for us no go (won’t) work. The God Almighty that has been with us from the beginning of it will see us through to the end.”

Similarly, one Pastor Prosper Anang (@prosperanang), who also shared his view regarding the issue on Twitter, said, “It looks like your plan didn’t work in Africa despite your conspiracy with our corrupt leaders. We know why. It’s because we’ve got God as our supreme leader. He’s watching our backs.”
Magnus Oduh (@MagnusOduh), who attributed the reason why COVID-19 deaths in Africa has been relatively low to their diet, said, “Mr Bill Gates, we Africans eat healthy cooked meals, 5% of Africans eat canned foods, meaning that 95% of Africans eat healthy, thereby contributing to our strong antibody, which fights off unwanted viruses like COVID-19. The West wants African rich soil polluted with their GMO seeds.”
However, some Nigerians agreed with the reasoning of the billionaire, saying COVID-19 figures in Africa were likely falsified because of the continent’s corrupt leaders.
For instance, Temmy Runsewe (@TemmyRunsewe) said, “COVID19 testing is just like African elections. Corruption is the order of the day, rigging of numbers, poor testing, politicians are now medical doctors.”
Also, a Twitter user with the handle, @MoDivine1, said, “I seriously don’t get why this guy was dragged on this app oh… He only voiced out what we all have been thinking in our heads all this while… Every day, you’ll see people whispering this same question and the answers that usually follow go in the lines of Na God (It is God) …”

Nigerian Military Killed Scores Of Boko Haram Terrorists In Sambisa Forest, Says Defence Headquarters

Boko Haram

Scores of Boko Haram militants were killed following multiple airstrikes launched by the Nigerian military in the Sambisa Forest located in Borno State, an official said on Tuesday.
The air interdiction conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, was carried out after a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, revealed that the terrorists responsible for recent attacks in Borno and Adamawa States had originated from the location.

Boko Haram

A statement by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said, “Air interdiction missions being conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have continued to deal decisive blows on terrorist elements in the North-East of the country.
“The latest of these was achieved yesterday, 28 December, 2020, at the ‘S’ Region in the heart of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
“The air strike, which was executed employing a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets, was carried out after series of Intelligence; Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions revealed that the terrorists responsible for recent attacks in the Southern part of Borno and Northern part of Adamawa State had originated from the location.
“Accordingly, the NAF attack aircraft engaged the target area in successive passes, leading to the destruction of some of their structures and logistics stores, including a suspected anti-aircraft gun station as the terrorists fired at the NAF aircraft. Several insurgents were also neutralised in the process.”

Aisha Yesufu Calls Out Pastor Kumuyi Over Assault On Schoolboy At Deeper Life School

Human rights activist and a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls Movement, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi, for not speaking against the alleged molestation of a schoolboy, Don Davis, in the school owned by the church in Uyo.
Eleven-year-old Don Davis Archibong, a pupil of Deeper Life High School in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, was allegedly ill-treated and starved by the senior pupils of the school.

While the management of the ministry had suspended the principal of the school, Mr Solomon Ndidi, and also released a statement that an investigation into the matter had begun, Yesufu berated Kumuyi for not speaking against the ill-treatment experienced by the boy.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Yesufu said, “Dear Pastor Kumuyi @pastorwf_kumuyi If it was Buhari’s issue, we would have heard your voice loud and clear. A vulnerable child needs your voice but it has been silent. Why? A shepherd is supposed to protect its weakest, not strongest. #JusticeForDonDavis.”
Her audacious tweet, however, attracted reactions from Twitter users lending their voices for and against the comment by Yesufu.
“I respect you, Ma, but you are very wrong on this your false accusation,” Akintona Olawale Samuel @AkintonaO reacted. “You have never heard Pastor Kumuyi meddling in Buhari or anything political. Always fact-check your claims, please. The Education Secretary of the church will be giving an update on Don Davis’ issue today.”
In a tweet supporting Yesufu, Gift Augustine @GiftAugustine19 said, “I don’t like dragging pastors but when something of this magnitude happens, someone or one of the pastors in charge of the zone should have spoken up. You should realise that Don Davis is one of the victims, what of those who are scared to speak up, or have been darkened by their experience and never spoke up and now doing to others. Please, let’s remember to be empathetic, you are first humans before Christians.”
