Trump Campaign Asks Court To Suspend Vote Count In Michigan Where Biden is Leading

President Donald Trump’s campaign said Wednesday that it had asked a court to stop the counting of votes in Michigan where rival Joe Biden holds a thin lead.
According to AFP, Trump campaign manager, Bill Stepien, alleged without providing evidence that his team had not been allowed legally guaranteed access to observe vote counting in “numerous” locations.

Similarly, Trump’s campaign said it was demanding a recount in Wisconsin, a crucial state where early returns showed Biden with a slender lead.
“There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties, which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results,” Stepien said in a statement.
“The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.”
Wisconsin is one of a handful states where the fate of the US election now hangs in the balance.

A recount in Wisconsin during the 2016 presidential election in which Trump took the state as part of his win against Democrat Hillary Clinton, found only 131 extra votes for Trump.
“20,000 is a high hurdle,” former Wisconsin governor, Scott Walker, a Republican, tweeted.
With Trump and Biden neck and neck across the rest of the country, the deciding states in their contest have come down to Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

UI VC: Senate Condemns Union Over Interference With Appointment Of New Vice Chancellor

The Senate of the University of Ibadan has berated the Non-Academic Staff Union and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities over interference with the election of a new Vice Chancellor for the university.
The unions had disrupted the activities of the selection committee with members of the committee alleging threat to their lives.

The incident forced the Senate to convene an emergency meeting.
At the meeting, the Senate stated that the selection process was being done in line with the extant law of the school and must be completed without interruption.
The Senate resolved that the university disciplinary procedure should be applied on anyone who attempts to disrupt the selection process.
The Senate also decided that “the union do not have any deciding role to play in the appointment of Vice Chancellors.
“Senate decided that representatives be appointed to visit the Minister of Education to submit a copy of the resolutions taken at the meeting.”
The Academic Staff Union of Universities had accused its non-academic counterparts of disrupting the appointment process the institution’s 13th substantive Vice Chancellor.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the disruption of the meeting of the governing council of the University of Ibadan that was convened to conclude the selection of the next vice-chancellor of the university,” the statement reads in part.
ASUU urged the governing council of the university to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates partaking in the process.
The SSANU and NASU under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee, UI Chapter, had called on the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to intervene in the crisis rocking the university and order the suspension of the appointment process.
They alleged that the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Idowu Olayinka, who is supposed to complete his tenure on November 30, is trying to impose his preferred candidate on the selection committee.
The unions also urged the minister to ensure the suspension of the ongoing selection process, which it alleged is tainted and prearranged to foist a particular preferred candidate on the university.
Six candidates are vying for the position and they are Femi Mimiko, younger brother to Segun Mimiko, ex-governor of Ondo State; Abideen Aderinto from Department of Sociology; Babatunde Salako, a former Provost, College of Medicine; Kayode Adebowale, the incumbent Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics); Olusegun Ademowo; and Olatunde Farombi.

Nigerian Journalists Beg President Buhari To Free 72-year-old Colleague Detained For Three Weeks

Tom Oga

Nigerian journalists under the auspices of Concerned Journalists Forum, have cried to President Muhammad Buhari to intervene and set free a 72-year-old, Oga Tom Uhia, from police detention.
Uhia, a native of Benue State, has been under secret detention for 25 days over a publication against Minister of State for Power, Mr Jeddy Agba, in the July 2020 edition of his Power Steering Magazine.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, Comrade Yemi Itodo, who spoke on behalf of the group, expressed worry over the deteriorating health condition of the septuagenarian, calling for his immediate release or arraignment.

Tom Oga

Itodo also tackled the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, who is the immediate younger brother to the minister’s mother, over the continuous detention of the journalist.
“The only crime this septuagenarian committed was that, as an investigative journalist, he dared to uncover a lot of frauds and alleged shady deals of a much younger Nigeria’s Minister of State for Power, Mr Goddy Jeddy Agba, while he was a top management member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in the last dispensation.
“Pa Uhia was arrested and detained on the order of Mr Agba. The Nigeria Union of Journalists both national and FCT Council have visited the minister repeatedly and pleaded that the old man should be released or charged to court. But the minister has refused to let go.
“He is currently being held at the Force CIID, area 10 Garki Abuja, where the immediate younger brother to Mr Jeddy Agba’s mother, Anthony Ogbizi, is holding sway as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.”
He added that despite fulfilling the bail conditions stipulated by the police, the publisher was still being held without having access to medical facilities.
He said, “At a time that Nigerians all over the world are clamouring for a reform of the Nigeria Police Force, it is very appalling that the leadership of the Force is not ready to embrace civility or any form of reform.
“More appalling, too, is the hypocrisy of Nigerian Government. Instead of learning from the ugly scenarios that engraved the whole of October 2020 across the country, the Nigerian Government is still paying lip service to ending police brutality. The government claimed it has ended SARS but the brutality and impunity of the police remains unchecked.
“We also call on President Muhammad Buhari to prevail on his Minister of State for Power to let go of the journalist, so as to reunite with his family.”

Court Asks Kogi To Pay Impeached Deputy Governor N180m In Owed Allowances

The National Industrial Court in Abuja has asked the Kogi State Government to pay former deputy governor of the state, Simon Achuba, who was impeached in October 2016, N180m in unpaid security votes for 16 months.
Channels TV reports that he had approached the court seeking for N921,572,758 for security vote, monthly imprest, traveling allowances, outstanding memos and statutory allocations due to his office as then deputy governor.

The judgment, which was read on Wednesday by Justice Oyebiola Oyewunmi, said the sum of N180m will be paid to Achuba as outstanding security votes due to him from April 2018 to August 2019.
The court ordered that if the Yahaya Bello administration does not pay Achuba within the period of 30 days, 30% interest will be paid monthly.
Part of the more than N700m of Achuba’s request, which was turned down by the court, includes the sum of N328m and N32,000, which he asked to be paid as a fraction of his imprest – office running cost when he was in government.
Achuba took the Kogi State Government before the National Industrial Court, praying that the decision of the government to withhold his allowances amounted to unfair labour practice.
His removal preceded the submission of a report of the committee set up by the state Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajana, to investigate an allegation of gross misconduct against him.

N450m Fraud: Court Adjourns Ex-Minister, Others Trial Until February 4

Mohammed Wakil, ex-Minister of States for Power.

The money laundering trial of a former Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, and four others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was on Wednesday adjourned until February 4, 2021 by Justice J.K Dagad of the Federal High Court sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The other defendants are Garba Abacha, Ibrahim Shehu Birma, Dr Abubakar Ali Kullima and Engr. Muhammad Baba Kachalla.

Mohammed Wakil, ex-Minister of States for Power.

The Breaking Times

The defendants are alleged to have received the sum of N450m, being part of the $115m disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.
One of the charges read, “That you, Hon. Mohammed Wakil, Garba Abacha, Ibrahim Shehu Birma, Dr. Abubakar Ali Kullima and Engr. Muhammad Baba Kachalla on or about the 26th day of March, 2015 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did agree among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit: conspiracy to commit money laundering and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).”
The defendants were first arraigned before Justice M.T Salihu on July 2, 2018 but his retirement from the bench necessitated the reassignment of the case to a new judge.
When the matter was called on Wednesday, the court’s registrar presented a letter from Nankham Ayuba Dammo, counsel to the first, second, and fourth defendants, wherein he informed the court that he was indisposed and asked for adjournment on the grounds of ill-health.
Counsel to the fifth defendant, Z. Hamza, also sent a letter asking for adjournment due to the fact that he was appearing in another matter before the Appeal Court, Gombe.
However, prosecuting counsel, Fatsuma Muhammad, objected to the letter sent by counsel to the fifth defendant on the ground that no hearing notice from the Gombe Division of the Court of Appeal was attached.
He thereby urged the court to discountenance his application.
After listening to counsel, Justice Dagad adjourned the case until February 4, 2021, a statement by Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, said.
