Policeman Saves Woman From Mob Attack In Abuja

A senior police officer, M.A Kaura, on Friday in Abuja rescued a woman from being attacked by an angry mob along Airport Road.
The woman was said to have insulted protesters when she told them that the demonstration was unnecessary and a waste of time.

The statement infuriated participants in the protest, who chased her in an attempt to beat her up.
It took the intervention of the policeman, who was at the scene of the incident, to save the woman.

The protesters, who had occupied and blocked the highway since morning, vowed to pass the night on the road.

Despite these revelations, the Presidency claimed that the former journalist travelled to UK for leisure and not for medical reasons.
In September this year, Daura was unable to attend the wedding of Hanan, President Buhari’s daughter, due to his poor health despite being scheduled to be the father of the day for that occasion.
The absence of Daura at the event remained a major talking point among major political players especially considering his closeness to President Buhari.

Despite Breach Of National Pension Commission Act, Senate Committee Clears Aisha Umar Nomination As Pencom DG

Aisha Umar

The Senate Committee has confirmed the nomination of Ms Aisha Umar as Director-General of National Pension Commission, SaharaReporters gathered.
This is despite the nomination being in clear violation of the National Pension Commission Act and objection from different quarters.
President Muhammadu Buhari had submitted Umar’s name to the Senate for confirmation as PENCOM DG to replace former DG, Mrs Chinelo Anohu-Amazu.

Aisha Umar

According to Section 20(1) and section 21(1) and (2) of the National Pension Commission Act 2014, states that in the event of a vacancy, the President shall appoint a replacement from the geopolitical zone of the immediate past member that vacated office to complete the remaining tenure.
However, disregarding the guideline of the commission, President Buhari nominated Umar, who is from the Northwestern part of the country to replace Anohu-Amazu, who is from the Southeast.
When submitted, some senators raised objection to the nomination but the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, shrugged-off the objections and directed senators not pleased with the nomination to submit their petitions to the Senate committee.
SaharaReporters has now gathered that the Senate committee has cleared Umar for approval by the Senate.
It was also discovered that the committee members were financially induced by wealthy and influential individuals seeking to control activities at the PENCOM.
Sources, who spoke with SaharaReporters, predicted that the Senate might be having a rowdy session as the Southern caucus is not pleased with the nomination of Umar.
“The Senate is likely to go up in another session whenever the committee charged with screening of the presidential nominee for the position of PENCOM Director-General was earlier today compromised by the nominee and her backers.
“The senators from the South are saying somebody from the North should not have replaced the former DG who is from the South-East,” a source said.
Another senator claimed that members of the Senate committee received $20,000 each to clear Umar for the position of the substantive DG of PENCOM.
“At the committee screening, Aisha Umar got a positive response from the members of the committee without objections by senators raised or considered.
“Members were induced with $20,000 apiece to clear Aisha for the position.
“Aisha is not only the candidate of the executive, as strongly represented by Secretary to Government of Federation, but also that of the Northern clique headed by the Senate President.
“Some of the senators are bracing up for a major showdown with the senate President during the presentation of the committee reports of the screening,” the source privy to the meeting of the Senate committee disclosed to SaharaReporters.
President Buhari had on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, submitted the names of six nominees to the Senate for confirmation as Chairman, Director General and National Executive Commissioners of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
In the letter, Despite Breach Of National Pension Commission Act, Senate Committee Clears Aisha Umar Nomination As Pencom DG, which was read on the floor of the upper chamber by Lawan, the President nominated Oyindasola Oni as Chairman and Aisha Umar as the Director-General.
Others nominated as Executive Commissioners are Hannatu Musa (North-West), Clement Akintola (South-West), Ayim Nyerere (South-East) and Charles Emukowhale (South-South).

UK Agency Questioned Over Financial Support To SARS

Kate Osamor

A member of the British parliament, Ms Kate Osamor, representing Edmonton, has written to question and seek clarification on the nature of aid the United Kingdom Government through the office of the Secretary of State, Foreign Affairs, extends to Nigeria’s disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
According to Thisday, The letter written on October 15 and personally signed by Osamor, called the attention of the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Mr Dominic Raab, to the nationwide protests in Nigeria in the past seven days against the excesses of SARS.

Kate Osamor

She warned that further assistance be withheld and also called for an audit of what the previous aids were used for so that the UK Government agency would not be unintentionally supporting or facilitating the actions of an agency notorious for human rights violations.
The letter made available to ACE was written in a tone of caution to avoid a situation SARS got support from the agency without proper use.
Osamor’s letter cited that there have been 82 proven and documented incidents of torture, ill-treatment, extrajudicial executions and gross human rights abuses against SARS since January 2017 and cautioned it would be unthinkable that UK agency gives support to such body unless for training on proper conduct that respects human rights.
Osamor notified Raab that she wrote in her capacity as a member of a committee that superintends the agency.
She alerted that given the shady accountability process in the Nigerian agency, there might be the likelihood that UK might have been unknowingly providing support for an agency involved in the offences of abuses mentioned.

BREAKING: Nigerians In France Join #EndSARS Protest, Ask Buhari, IGP To Resign

Some Nigerians in France on Friday morning joined the #EndSARS and #EndSWAT campaign currently going on across Africa’s most populous country.
The young Nigerians demonstrated in front of the Nigerian Embassy at the Victor Hugo area of Paris, capital of France, to demand an end to police brutality and human rights abuses under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Calling for a total reformation of the Nigeria Police Force, the protesters asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to immediately resign his position for overseeing a failed law enforcement agency.

The young Nigerians in France also demanded the resignation of President Buhari over rising cases of killings, kidnappings and general insecurity in the country.

They also slammed Buhari for the poor State of Nigeria’s economy, which has led to massive job losses for citizens.

Despite the police authorities announcing the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and announcing the formation of the Special Weapons and Tactics team, Nigerians are not backing down on their agitations for total reforms of the law enforcement agency, pouring out more into the streets across different cities of the world to push for change.
