E2%80%99m-not-happy-nigerian-kukah-catholic-bishop-sokoto-says I’m Not A Happy Nigerian, Kukah, Catholic Bishop Of Sokoto, Says

Matthew Kukah

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of making it difficult for Nigerians to celebrate diversity.
According to TheCable, the cleric spoke at The Platform, an annual conference organised by Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos, on Thursday.

Matthew Kukah

Daily Post

The virtual event hosted by Poju Oyemade, its convener, was to commemorate the nation’s 60th independence anniversary.
Kukah said that he was not a happy Nigerian but remained hopeful.
He said, “I think even the most optimistic Nigerian must conceive that we are nowhere near coming to define the real sense of democracy. Beyond just going through the process of cycles of election, we have a very serious problem with recruitment methods.
“Reflecting federal character should be like viewing ourselves in the mirror and celebrating our diversity because the table is big enough to occupy everyone.
“But when you don’t have that and you put all your apples in one basket, naturally you cannot make headway, because you’re violating the constitution and thinking that we are in a democracy.
“This President (Buhari) in my view in the last few years has made it very difficult for us to celebrate diversity. And Nigerians will concede that a reward system that is so skewed, whether in favour of men, women, Christians or Muslims is unacceptable because when it was time to vote, all of us came out to vote.
“We need to very quickly reset the template if we are to take our place after 60 years of independence. If we are unable to provide our people with water, food, light, security, then it is a tough call. I am not a happy Nigerian but I remain a hopeful Nigerian.”

Nigerians Tell Buhari To Compare Minimum Wage After President Compared Oil Prices With Saudi Arabia

Nigerians have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to increase the country’s minimum wage to the standard of Saudi Arabia.
This was in reaction to a statement by the President during the country’s 60th independence anniversary speech on Thursday when he said the price of petrol per litre in the Asian country was more than the amount it was being sold in Nigeria.

The President added that it does not make sense for Nigeria to sell petrol cheaper than Saudi Arabia.
Reacting to Buhari’s comparison, Nigerians urged the President not to only compare oil prices but also compare minimum wage and development in Saudi Arabia.
“The analysis is 100 per cent correct. It is pertinent to also note the economic competence and strength of these aforementioned countries. Unemployment rate in Saudi is not as compared to the hike in Nigeria. Or should we talk about the minimum wage. It is wrong comparing oil price,” @akiyaks tweeted.
@MadukaGodwin2 said, “This country you mentioned, you did not mention how they have steady power supply, standard and modern infrastructure. All we do is the up boost of poverty in Nigeria. I still believe in my country. God bless Nigeria and Nigerians.”
@TosinOlugbenga wrote, “Mr President, should we list other things that don’t make sense also happening in Nigeria and not in other countries. Do you know Nigerians are being kidnapped daily by both civil criminals and police criminals. Does the cost of governance make sense in Nigeria?”
@pappy_omada said, “True Mr President, but do we have and share the same standard of living with the aforementioned countries?”
@Official_munier tweeted, “How can you compare Egypt, Saudi Arabia with the current situation we are facing in Nigeria. We have a higher rate of unemployment, terrorism, insecurity and just recently a governor’s convoy was attacked. People are living their villages because of insecurity. They can’t farm, most of them can’t ever find their family. Look at the situation we are facing from your state, Katsina.”
@ade_wonu_ola tweeted, “If we’re comparing oil prices, then we should be comparing everything. We’re talking minimum wage, education, in fact, life. This increase is not helping the average Nigerian (especially the poor), sir. You should do something that will make life better for the masses not this.”
@Musashuwa84 said, “Compare us with them in terms of development and economy, not in petrol price. These countries that you mentioned are richer, developed than us. Even if they sell it more than this, they will still make it. But citizens are suffering and feeding from hand to mouth.”

Kano Protesters Knock President Buhari Over Petrol Price Increase, Lack Of Jobs, Demand Resignation

RevolutionNow protesters in Kano have described President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies such especially the increase in the price of fuel and electricity tariff hike as wicked and lacking in compassion for the masses.
The protesters, who took to the streets of Kano bearing placards and chanting songs on Thursday, said the polices were further compounded by a general lack of opportunities available to the masses struggling to survive daily.

They called on Buhari to resign over his lack of ideas to run the country.
Speaking in Hausa, one of the protesters in a video obtained by SaharaReporters said, “We are carrying out this protest today because of the inconsideration for the masses that led to the increase in the pump price of petrol, lack of food, insecurity in the country, stealing, lies, lack of employment opportunities, the killing of people, idleness, we are tired of all these and do not want it anymore.
“The price of fuel that was increased is like beating the poor. We are buying foodstuffs at expensive prices, then there is VAT and also increase in taxes, police harassing innocent citizens, too much is wrong in Nigeria. Buhari must resign.
“How are we expected to cope, are we wizards? No, we are not. We are sons and daughters of the soil. When we work, we deserve wages, when the price of fuel is high and becomes a burden, it should be reduced.
“It is wickedness to increase the price of petrol. Nigeria produces fuel, Buhari was speaking today and he said the price has increased hence the fuel hike but he is not considering the poor man. He does not know that the poor man is toiling and that life is not sweet for the poor man.
“He does not know the challenges we face daily, we are suffering. Someone who earns N60,000 cannot afford to buy a bag of rice and keep at home because it is expensive, no food, our hospitals are in disrepair, our roads are bad, no airline wants to come to the North.
“It’s been four months since an airline last came to Kano, no food, no transport, people are suffering and without peace of mind. That is why we are here to say enough is enough.
“President Muhammadu Buhari should resign this is our request today.”

Zamfara Sets Up Panel To Probe Ex-governor, Yari, Over Alleged N107bn Fraud

Gov. Abdulazizi-Yari of Zamfara State.

Zamfara State Government has set up a commission of enquiry to investigate former governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, on the alleged diversion of N107bn local government funds.
Zailani Bappah, spokesperson for Governor Bello Matawalle, in a statement said the figure is a total sum of money discovered to have been misappropriated between 2011 to 2019.

The statement said Yari diverted the amount through the awards of “fictitious or over-inflated” contracts.
The statement reads, “This is partly a fallout of the final report of the Ahmad Zabarma committee constituted at the wake of this administration to find out the depth of engagement by the last administration in terms of public finances and procurement, which was equally submitted to the governor at the Government House.
“For instance, the sum of N10bn was discovered to have been paid to the state government from the Federal Government by e-payment, which also disappeared via e-payment within two days without any record of it in the appropriate books.
“Another N10bn found to have been paid in two tranches was discovered to have landed in the accounts of two bureau d’ change companies in Kano, the committee disclosed. Other shoddy deals involved many contracts awarded and either not executed or partly executed.”
The committee, according to the official statement, also discovered that over 1,000 vehicles were said to have been purchased by the last administration without any trace of the vehicles.

BREAKING: Police Arrest, Detain Two Protesters In Benue State

The police on Thursday arrested and detained two peaceful protesters in Benue State.
The protesters demanding good governance were harassed and detained by the police.

An eyewitness at the scene said, “We had a peaceful protest and procession until we got to the point where we intended to make our last address before closing.
“Four trucks of heavily armed policemen arrived when I was addressing Channels TV.
“The officer in charge approached us in a civil manner and explained that they were actually sent to arrest us, but they honestly sympathize with our cause. We had an understanding for them to allow us to round up before leaving.
“About 15 mins after we were done and leaving, another team of policemen (5 trucks) appeared behind a few of us that were still walking on the expressway. Though some officers in the first truck who sped up to meet with us, spoke in our local dialect, intimating us of their plan to effect an arrest and advised us to get into the next street and disappear before the other patrol vans meet up with us.”
The new team then arrested one Faith and another protester named Stephen for standing.
The protesters called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police as well as the international community to intervene by ensuring that the protesters were released from arbitrary detention.

#RevolutionNow: Kaduna Protesters Defy Security Agents, Demand Good Governance, President Buhari’s Resignation

Citizens in Kaduna State have taken to the streets to demand an end to the hike in the pump price of petrol as well as the increase in electricity tariff.
The protesters under the ages of the Coalition for Revolution joined thousands of Nigerians around the country to also demand the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

SaharaReporters gathered that as the protesters marched peacefully, Governor Nasir el-Rufai gave orders for them to be dispersed.
One protester said, “We were all high-spirited. After observing the protests at the first location we decided to move further to the streets it was at that point that I got a call from a senior comrade telling me to dispatch my comrades within 20 minutes because news coming in was that statehouse had gotten news of our protest and had dispatched some mobile policemen to come and disrupt and possibly arrest us.”
The protesters, however, defied the security agents and continued the demonstration, chanting solidarity songs.

Google To Pay Publishers Globally $1bn For Their News Over Next Three Years

Google has said that it would pay publishers globally $1bn for their news over the next three years.
News publishers have in the past asked Google for compensation for using their content on the world’s most popular search engine.

Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer of Google, said the new product called Google News Showcase will launch first in Germany where it has signed up German newspapers including Der Spiegel, Stern, Die Zeit, and in Brazil with Folha de S.Paulo, Band and Infobae.
It will be rolled out in Belgium, India, the Netherlands and other countries.
About 200 publishers in Argentina, Australia, Britain, Brazil, Canada and Germany have signed up to the product, Reuter’s reports.
He said, “This financial commitment – our biggest to date – will pay publishers to create and curate high-quality content for a different kind of online news experience.
Google parent Alphabet reported a net profit of $34.3bn on revenue of almost $162bn last year.
The product, which allows publishers to pick and present their stories, will launch on Google News on Android devices and eventually on Apple devices.
“This approach is distinct from our other news products because it leans on the editorial choices individual publishers make about which stories to show readers and how to present them,” Pichai said.
