#RevolutionNow: From DSS To Police, My Encounter With A Nigerian On The Verge Of A Revolution By Ayoola Babalola

Ayoola Babalola

Today, I had the second DSS encounter as we gathered for the #RevolutionNow protests in Abeokuta, Kuto roundabout.
I was arrested at around 11:55 am and immediately whisked to the state Headquarters of the agency. Just like the government that gives it orders, the agency itself is clueless. We engaged in discussions for more than an hour. I was later transferred from the office of the Director to their investigation room and then to a special investigation officer. By the time we were done, there was no charge to lay against us but they cannot appear like fools, so they transferred us to the office of the commissioner of police in Ogun state.
Quite a nice, reasonable man. After my brief ‘speech’ the man was left with no option than to give us fatherly advice on how we should channel our energy as youths and how we must be careful about the conceptualization of good ideas. It was a nice moment in his office. He later granted us bail (at no cost), and we were asked to return to the state headquarters tomorrow for the perfection of ‘documentation.’

Ayoola Babalola

Things are becoming clearer every day in this country and the need for a revolution cannot be more urgent. One of the DSS officers was having a conversation with his colleagues on a planned trip to Abuja, and the officer told him to ply the road probably on a night bus. The senior DSS officer was quick to reply that he cannot, because of the high rate of crime, kidnapping and terrorism on our highways. They are aware of the situation we are in this country; they just don’t how to fix it.
It was another fulfilling moment as I engaged the Police Superintendent, who was handling our bail process. The elderly man is frustrated already, while still in service. When we raised the issues of police uniforms, salaries, benefits, health and life assurance, the man was moved to tears and he could not but wish us well.
There are times when we make history, there are times when history makes us. Whichever one will happen in this historical time in our country we don’t know. I just know that there is a job that needs to be done urgently.
“Nigerians are not ready” is a rhetoric of the unwilling. #RevolutionNow!

Falana-led Coalition Condemns Attacks On #RevolutionNow Protesters

A coalition of over 70 labour and civil society organisations known as Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond, has condemned the attacks launched on peaceful RevolutionNow protesters by security agencies in parts of Nigeria on Wednesday.
The coalition said the protests were legitimate and sum up an outburst of anger against the increasingly intolerant Nigerian state.
The coalition said the arrest of scores of the protesters by security agents violates fundamental human rights as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

“The arrests violate the constitution of Nigeria since avery citizen has the right to peaceful assembly. The protesters did not break any known law. What they did was to expreas their democratic rights as aggrieved citizens” ASCAB National Chairman, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), a foremost human rights lawyer, said.
Falana praised the protesters for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner without resorting to violence.
He added, “We saw young men and women coming out to protest against injustice. This is in line with democratic tradition anywhere in the world. The arrests and violent attacks on the protesters represent a grievous violation of the constitution that the security operatives should uphold and defend.”
He called for the immediate and unconditional release of the protesters, saying any attempt to continue to detain them has legal implications for the Nigerian Government.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all protesters arrested today in Lagos, Abuja, Osun, Ondo and other states where protest action took place.”

Buhari’s Love For Terrorists Vs Hatred For Peaceful Protesters By Ajiboye Amos Olakunle

It is a great achievement as Nigerians are beginning to see the handwritings on the wall. Our leader has publicly displayed a lack of interest for peace.
A nation that intentionally breeds terrorists for ‘personal’ use, where leaders breeds and keeps terrorists as though in a poultry/farm where they’re kept for growth.
It is painful that the democracy we fought to achieve in 1960 has been murdered and shattered by callous and prodigal Nigerians, who’ve attained political posts.
A democratic setting where the government frowns at the public’s opinion, a country where Nigerians are made to enjoy deprivation of rights without allowing any revolt or revolution.

Ever wondered why education is one of the most dormant sector that seems forgotten or unimportant?
A nation where it interests leaders to spend more on ammunitions than books because the armed forces is their tools to achieve their political nonsensical and mischievous agenda.
The speed that the government uses to deploy armed forces to obstruct protest is a million time faster than the speed they use in deploying soldiers to the insecured Northern region.
No wonder a large percentage of Nigerians are too scared of protest as the government had ensured a death sentence to reward peaceful protesters.
It is so sarcastic that the armed forces that was recognized by the constitution to ensure protection of citizens are being made to ensure the death of her citizens.
Obviously, terrorists, who have executed countless victims are been systematically rescued from justice. Countless soldiers who’ve sacrificed all to protect the nation have been killed by them.
Terrorists are being logically integrated, celebrated, rewarded even through they’ve caused the country’s misfortune; economically, socially and mentally.
In the midst of this abnormalities and draconian era, some patriots; peaceful agitators have risen to oppose such actions. They’ve risen to rescue their people from such ‘cannibals’
The patriots are those who’ve questioned every unruly acts of the government through protest, literature and every means.
The patriots have been rewarded by the government with jails. The jails where they’re made to regret patriotism.
However, the determination of these patriots is unshakable so is that of all Nigerians. No bargain will quench it
We’ve seen terrorists rewarded with political offices, a payback for dancing to the tunes of their masters.
No wonder I’ve always said; ‘a leader that rescues terrorists is their leader.’ It is only a terrorist that will obstruct peaceful agitators.
We’ve seen criminals sent to the Presidential Villa, assembly and several ministerial offices but yet, they drive patriots; common Nigerians, peaceful agitators to jails.
The most promising event is revolution. No matter how hard they discourage it. The people are ready and the train has started moving.
Everyone is beginning to see the handwritings on the wall, they’re beginning to realize the truth, the way and the life.
We’re beginning to wake from our very long sleep. It’s been too long a sleep.
However, it’s not that we sleep too much. It was the ‘cannibals’ who induced us so as to carry out their draconian actions.
We’re back now and we’re hopeful as patriots have risen to the rescue of the nation.
Our patriots are not here for frivolities, appointments or stolen wealth.
They’re here to take back what belongs to the people.
They’re not bothered by anything or reward a because the greatest reward granted to man is history, it remains forever.
Let patriotism soar, it pays better than the empty, nonsensical political promises.
I am a patriot and your greatest mistake will be your apathy to patriotism, agitation for good governance and revolution.

Al-Qaeda Influence Growing In North-West Nigeria, United States Warns

Al-Qaeda insurgent group is gaining sway in the restive North-Western part of Nigeria, the United States of America has warned.
Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the US Special Operations Command, Africa, disclosed this during a briefing, saying the group was also expanding to other parts of West Africa.
He said, “We have engaged with Nigeria and continue to engage with them in intel sharing and in understanding what these violent extremists are doing. And that has been absolutely critical to their engagements in Borno State and into an emerging area of North-West Nigeria that we’re seeing al-Qaida starting to make some inroads in.

“So, this intelligence sharing is absolutely vital and we stay fully engaged with the Government of Nigeria to provide them an understanding of what these terrorists are doing, what Boko Haram is doing, what ISIS West Africa is doing, and how ISIS and al-Qaida are looking to expand further south into the littoral areas.
“I think there’s two factors in that. One, it goes to that each government has to focus on this and provide that focus for international partners to engage with. The other part of this is we can’t underestimate the threat these violent extremist organisations pose. We, as a community of international nations, keep thinking we have defeated them or we have put them on their back foot and that they’re just moments from disintegration.
“I think after 20 years we have seen they are very resilient organisations that, although small, they’re able to leverage social media and other forms of media to have an outsized voice and that they continue to recruit and they continue to find opportunities. When it comes to Nigeria in general, Nigeria, obviously, is a critical nation to West Africa. It is a critical nation and we realise that Nigeria is a lynchpin.
”For that to have an effect against the VEOs and to have an effect against these stressors, it really takes the Government of Nigeria to lead that effort and to build that energy to coalesce around. So no nation can come in and fix that problem for Nigeria. We can assist with that – and it’s the United States can assist, the United Kingdom, other countries can come in, many countries can come and assist with that partnership – but ultimately it takes leadership from Nigeria in order for us to focus our efforts.”

E2%80%94concerned-nigerians #RevolutionNow Protest: Buhari Has Taken Nigeria Back To Military Era —Concerned Nigerians

Pro-democracy and human rights group, Concerned Nigerians, has condemned the arrest, harassment and dehumanisation of #RevolutionNow protesters in Abuja and other parts of the country.
The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Agada Abu Theophilus, condemned the high-handedness and unprofessional handling of protesters by security forces.
The statement reads, “We condemn in its entirety the arrest and harassment of RevolutionNow protesters in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria. We are worried that our rights as citizens of Nigeria to freely assemble and protest against maladministration, bad governance and insecurity in the country is no longer guaranteed.
“At a time when democracy is being entrenched and strengthened all over the world, Nigeria is sliding back into the dark days of military regime where citizens are being hounded and afraid to ask salient questions as to how they should be governed.

“Nigeria has become a nation where bandits who have killed thousands of citizens are being rehabilitated and reintegrated into the society with so many privileges while those asking questions and demanding good governance are being treated like common criminals.
“Protests are a catalyst for social change, and are essential for citizen participation in a democratic state. Freedom to protest gives individuals and groups to share their views and interests, express dissent, and make demands of government.
“The RevolutionNow group is advocating for economic freedom for all, an end to incessant killings in the country, equal opportunity for every Nigerian, free education for all, living wage and an end to impunity by people in government. These demands are not out of place and shouldn’t be seen as treasonable felony or act of terrorism.
“The Nigerian Government must understand that there’s no other way to describe an act of terrorism than the weaponization of poverty by the ruling class. The security agents that are being used to hound innocent Nigerians should know that the economic freedom and equal opportunity that RevolutionNow group are demanding for, is for the good of all and they are not immune from the systemic failure that the group wants an end to.
“Finally, it’s never too late for the Nigerian Government to stop its disdain for rule of law and their gross disrespect for the rights of citizens to freely assemble and express themselves.”
