Lagos Youth Demand Compensation For Family Of Teenager Killed By Police

Youths in Lagos have demanded that the Nigeria Police Force adequately compensate the family of Ezekwe Tina, a teenage girl killed by policemen in Lagos.
Oworo Youth Forum are also demanding that the officers involved in the killing, ASP Theophilus Otobo and Inspector Oguntoba Olamigoke attached to Bariga Police Station, must be made to face the full wrath of the law.
It was gathered that the policemen, who were trying to enforce curfew at the end of the Third Mainland Bridge, shot at the driver of a commercial bus.
Tina was hit by a bullet and was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive.

The youth described Tina’s death as “one too many”, adding that the police have been responsible for the deaths of innocent citizens and illegal extortions of young Nigerians.
“We at Oworo Youth Forum are not only calling for the perpetrators to be arrested, paraded and prosecuted publicly but also demanding that the family of Tina must be adequately compensated for their loss.
“We want to make it categorically clear that this will not be one of those cases that will be swept under the carpet under the disguise of orderly room trial and prosecution.“We will engage and resist with everything we have within the ambit of the law to make sure justice is not beheaded,” the youth said.
They are calling on civil society groups, activists and well-meaning and progressive Nigerians to join in the demand for justice and an end to police brutality and impunity.
Meanwhile, the police have said the two officers involved in the act have been arrested and undergoing internal disciplinary proceedings.
“The police is in contact with the family of the victim from the day of the incident. The Command deeply sympathise with the family and friends of the deceased person. The Commissioner of Police calls for calm and assures the family that the perpetrators of this dastardly act will face the full weight of the law,” Bala Elkana, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, said.

Don Jazzy, Segalink Condemn Southern Kaduna Killings, Call For Justice

Segalink, Don Jazzy

Condemnations have continued to trail the killing of unarmed villagers in Southern Kaduna communities by armed Fulani herdsmen.
Between May 19 to 24, herdsmen have killed scores of persons in many communities in the area.
Reacting to the killings, music producer, Don Jazzy, expressed concern over government’s failure to act on the killings despite the frequency of occurrence.
He said, “The pictures of inhabitants of Southern Kaduna, who were gruesomely killed in bandits’ attacks in the past few days is such a sorry sight to behold. It’s even more worrying that many others have reportedly fled their homes for safety.
“The security of lives and properties of our people should be the primary duty of government at all levels. Our security agencies should be charged to do more in this regard, ensuring the sanctity of lives and properties. Peace to the departed souls.”

Segalink, Don Jazzy

Rights campaigner Segun Awosanya also known as Segalink, asked governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, to take immediate responsibility for the killings.
He said, “I’ve always been entertained by the furtive attempt by interests to downplay brazen murders/impunity by certain ethnic brigades in the bid to trivialize the grief of the unjustly oppressed. This academic calendar ritual Is sadly playing out before our eyes again on the SK matter.
“As the saying goes, “the people that know us best, know how best to hurt us.” This is why politicians of an already beleaguered admin morbidly seeking to bury their family albatross, use expensive influencers to brainwash the populace.

“The truth, however, must never be a foreign language. Even a dead man’s words are valued once the claims can be verified. We must never attenuate our humanity at any cost. Murdered children and defenseless women must get justice regardless of the adjective we find convenient.
“Be it a clash, genocide, Kajuru, homicide — death is death, and the governor is the CSO that owes the people the duty of care to protect them from this kind of situation. Whichever way you choose to look at it, the state has failed and the governor must take responsibility.”

E2%80%94pdp Five Years Of Buhari’s Administration Wasteful, Corrupt, Taking Nigeria Nowhere —PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has described as wasteful and corrupt, the past five years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in Nigeria.
The PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, on Friday said President Buhari had taken Nigeria backward by 60 years.
The statement reads, “In line with the assessments of majority of Nigerians, our party views the last five years of Buhari administration as wasteful and could at best be described as season of the locusts.
“The PDP laments that the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government has turned our nation into a wasteland, devastated her economy, shattered our national dreams, crushed the hope of citizens and set our country backward.

“The party describes as saddening that May 29, under President Buhari, has become synonymous with the enthronement of incompetence, insensitive leadership, endemic corruption in high places and governance by propaganda and false performance claims.
“Under President Buhari, May 29 has become a day of grieving for Nigerians; a day for commemoration of failed promises, reversal of gains achieved by past leaders and retrogression in our body polity as a nation.
“This administration has failed woefully in its three major governance planks of provision of security, economic recovery and fight against corruption.
“In the last five years, the APC administration has done nothing but driving our nation along the precipices; reneged on all its campaign promises, ruined our productive sector, frustrated our farmers, manufacturers and small scale entrepreneurs, devalued our naira, wrecked employment opportunities for our youth, turned our once prosperous nation into the poverty capital of the world while accumulating huge
foreign debts for this generation and the unborn.
“Under five years, President Buhari has borrowed from every corner of the world.
“Our party had already alerted Nigerians that with the volume of borrowing, President Buhari and the APC have placed our nation on the international auction market.
“In the last five years, corruption has also worsened in government circle as shown in Transparency International’s corruption perception index.
“Under the APC administration, insurgents, marauders and bandits, who have been pushed to the fringes under the PDP, have resurged and now having field day ravaging communities and killing our compatriots while government continue in its lip service and empty condolence messages.
“It is distressing that instead of heeding wise counsel to accept failure and avoid making false performance claims, the Buhari Presidency just yesterday, released a list of recycled fictitious achievements, including very insensitive claim of having routed out bandits; even as marauders were pillaging communities and killing our compatriots in Sokoto and other states, particularly in the North-West.
“A look at the list exposed reused figures and data without corresponding verifiable projects in any part of the country, apart from attempts to appropriate PDP projects.”

Yobe State Governor, Buni, Showcases Uncompleted Airport To Mark One Year In Office

To show his biggest achievement since assuming office a year ago today, Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, led top government officials and others to witness the test run of the runway of the uncompleted Yobe Cargo Airport.
Yobe State has a poverty rate of 82 per cent and with majority of primary and secondary schools in dilapidated state and thousands of out of school children, many see the sinking of the state’s scarce resources into a cargo airport as a misplacement of priority.

“Right now there is water scarcity in many parts of Damaturu, the state capital, because many boreholes have broken down. People want water, schools and good roads. We don’t have a single fully equipped secondary school in Yobe State but the government is obsessed with a cargo airport, in a state whose roads are largely death traps,” a resident of Damaturu, who craved anonymity, lamented.

In September, Yobe State Government approved N11.32bn for the construction of the international cargo airport in Damaturu.

But barely six days to handing over as governor of Yobe State, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam approved additional sum of N6,067,305,786.91 for the upgrade of design of the the uncompleted airport.

Also in June 2018, the sum of N1.760bn contract was awarded to United Aviation Services for the supply and installation of communication gadgets at the Damaturu International Cargo Airport under construction. In November 2018, former Governor Gaidam approved another N4.2bn for the completion of the international cargo airport.
The airport was completion was slated for May 2019 but up until this moment, it is far from being completed despite additional funding running into billions.
Activists alleged that the airport project is being used to divert public funds.

E2%80%99s-ministry-defence-appropriated-13m-instead-3197-un-biological-weapon EXPOSED: Nigeria’s Ministry Of Defence Appropriated $1.3m Instead Of $3,197 For UN Biological Weapon Convention In 2019

Ministry Of Defence (MOD)
2019 Budget

SaharaReporters has uncovered how Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence budgeted and received $1.3m for the payment of the United Nations 2019 Biological Weapons Convention instead of the $3,197 the country was billed.
When converted to naira, the amount billed to Nigeria is N1,150,920 using the 2019 average exchange rate of N360 per dollar.
The money was for the cost of the meeting of the convention on the prohibition of the development, production and stockpiling of bacteriological (biological) and toxin weapons and on their destruction (BWC).
The fund was inserted into the 2019 budget of the Ministry of Defence Headquarters with code ERGP14129149.

Ship House, Defense Headquarters.

Investigation by SaharaReporters revealed that not only was the contribution billed by Nigeria over-bloated, it was also hijacked by the Defence Ministry from the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
To restate its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention, Nigeria established the National Authority on Chemical and Biological Weapons Convention and was placed under the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In October 2003, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation approved that the Secretary, National Authority on CWC, should take on the additional responsibility of the implementation of the Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) in Nigeria.
Since then, the implementation of the CWC and BTWC are supervised by the secretariat now designated as the National Authority on Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions (NAC and BWC).
The Ministry of Defence (Defence Headquarters) is one of the 36 members of the inter-ministerial committee on Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions.
Prior to 2019, Nigeria had not been paying the annual BWC contribution by member states.
However, the payment, which was facilitated by the Nigerian military from 2019, was used as a conduit for siphoning hundreds of millions of naira.
According to documents from the United Nations, Nigeria was billed to pay a total of $21,834.54 (N7,860,434.4) for BWC, Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) and Anti Personnel Landmine Convention (APLC) for 2013 and before to 2018 and $8,919.40 (N3,210,984) for 2019.
In a breakdown of the BWC, Nigeria was billed to pay $3,197 in 2018 as well as $3.197 in 2019.

Court Jails Man For $240,000 Romance Scam

Justice A.T. Mohammed of Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday May 28, 2020 convicted and sentenced one Igweneme Moses(a.k.a. Griffith Doyle),  to one year imprisonment for conspiracy and money laundering.
The convict, who defrauded his victim, Chantai Meadery in February 2018 through a dating scam,  with a promise of “building a future together” in Switzerland, was arraigned by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on July 23, 2019 on a 4-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
One of the counts reads: “That you Igweneme Moses and Igweneme Nkeiruka Blessing (now at large)between the 13th and 26th March, 2018 directly took possession of the sum of $82,706,(Eight Two Thousand, Seven Hundred and Six US Dollars) which you knew or reasonably ought to have known is the proceeds of an unlawful act, to wilt: obtaining under false pretence from one Chantai Helene Meadery and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 15(2) of Money Laundering(Prohibition) Act, 2011 (As amended)”. The defendant initially pleaded “not guilty”.

Meanwhile, in the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the convict used the pretext of fake emergency situations, to trick his victim in making a total of sixteen (16) transfers amounting to Two Hundred and Forty Thousand, Seven Hundred Dollars ($240,700) to the convict.
The convict received all the money through his UBA account number 30020624272, a domiciliary joint account belonging to him and his daughter, Igweneme Nkeiruka Blessing. Further investigation also revealed that any time the domiciliary account was credited, Moses transfered the funds in United States dollars to a bureau de change operator who will then transfer the Naira equivalent to his daughter via UBA Naira account No. 2064404530.
However, at the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday, Moses changed his plea to “guilty”.
Upon his guilty plea, the prosecuting counsel, T. M. Iko, urged the court to convict the defendant as charged and order the restitution of the total sum of Two Hundred and Forty Thousand US Dollars ($240,000) to the victim.
Justice Mohammed consequently convicted Moses and sentenced him to one year imprisonment and ordered total restitution of the sum of Two Hundred and Forty Thousand US Dollars ($240,000) to the victim.
The convict has so far returned the sum of One Hundred Thousand US Dollars (S100, 000) to the victim.

EXPOSED: Presidency Lied, Technical Issues Blanked Out Buhari While Giving Speech During UN Virtual Meeting

A video of United Nations virtual meeting on financing for development in the era of COVID-19 and beyond, which held on Thursday among heads of states and government and seen by SaharaReporters, has quashed any form of doubt on what truly transpired at the event.
Following a report by SaharaReporters that technical hitches prevented President Muhammadu Buhari from delivering his full presentation at the meeting, his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, took to Twitter to describe the news as fake.
According to Shehu, nothing of such transpired as Buhari had a good outing.

The country’s fake news factory, @SaharaReporters is at it again. President Buhari addressed the conference yesterday. We were there. We all saw it. pic.twitter.com/lhMZTgMzKW— Garba Shehu (@GarShehu) May 29, 2020

However, contrary to Shehu’s claims, the full video of the virtual meeting obtained by SaharaReporters has indeed proven that President Buhari was knocked out of the meeting while still speaking after feeds from Aso Villa failed to get through to other participants of the important event.
After waiting several seconds to see if Buhari will be able to reconnect with the virtual meeting co-convened by Canada and Jamaica without any success, the floor was given to the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Most leaders of other countries including Ghana, who made presentations at the virtual UN meeting, were able to deliver their full speeches without similar problems.
