Kano Governor, Ganduje, Asks Buhari To Relax Lockdown Over Ramadan

The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the 14-day total lockdown imposed on the state.
Buhari had on Monday during a nationwide broadcast ordered a total lockdown on Kano following the rise of COVID-19 cases and the strange deaths in the state.
Ganduje, while speaking on Thursday, while inaugurating a panel of experts to support the state task force technical committee, said it is important to relax the lockdown for a while in order to ease the hardship in the state, especially in the holy month of Ramadan. 

He said, “We would engage the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.

Nigerian leaders have been advised to look inwards for home-grown solutions to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, gave the charge on Thursday in Akure, Ondo State.
Oba Ogunwusi said Coronavirus had paralysed the economy of the country, adding that leaders had to be pragmatic in finding a solution. 

He spoke while donating two Motorised Modular Fumigators to Ondo State Government to combat the spread of the virus. 
He said, “I have to tell everyone that Coronavirus is real and we can’t continue to rest on our oars but we have to look for the solution internally.
“In Nigeria, we must use what we have to get what we want. If increasing, it would be more dangerous.
“Many great countries in the world have gone through this.”
According to the Ooni, the two motorised disinfectants were initiative of the ‘House of Oduduwa Machine Tools’ and it would go a long way in stemming the tide of the pandemic.
Speaking, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the people must adhere strictly to health rules in order to join the government to combat the pandemic.

FCT Administration Demolishes Houses In Abuja Despite Lockdown

A building, that belonged to Obiagba Amaka and her husband, was pulled down by the FCTA. The couple are now left confused as they got no quit nor demolition notice

No fewer than 50 families were rendered homeless at Paipe community near Idu-Karmo, Abuja, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration demolished their houses despite the lockdown of the city still in effect.
The exercise, which took place on Tuesday, rendered many residents homeless while many lost their valuables in the process.
SaharaReporters gathered that the officials neither issued a quit nor demolition notice to residents of the area before embarking on the exercise.

A victim of the demolition, Joy Moneke, who could not control her emotions, said she lost everything she had laboured for her entire life.
She said, “We sold some of our properties to make sure we completed that house only for this to happen.
“Where are we going to start from. We are left with nothing, our entire life is ruined. This is the only thing we have to hide our head”
Moneke, who was visibly devastated and overwhelmed as a result of the incident, wept profusely.
She called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid in getting accommodation.
Our correspondent also spoke with one of the leaders of the community, Ibrahim Imam, who had his farmland and cashew plants destroyed in the demolition.
He said there was no notice from the FCT Administration before the exercise was carried out.
He said, “We were not given any prior notice, we just saw bulldozers and security agents including army pull down houses.
“I tried to even speak with the leader of the team to allow our people salvage their valuables before the exercise but they threatened to shoot me if I moved closer.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mrs Grace Zamani, was not successful as at the time of this report.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced 204 new cases of Coronavirus in the country.
In a post on Twitter on Thursday night, the agency said, “204 new cases of #COVID19 reported.

“80 Kano, 45 Lagos, 12 Gombe, nine Bauchi, nine Sokoto, seven Borno, seven Edo, six Rivers, six Ogun, four FCT, four Akwa Ibom, four Bayelsa, three Kaduna, two Oyo, two Delta, two Nasarawa, one Ondo and one Kebbi.

Osun Extends Lockdown Till Sunday, Curfew To Commence On Monday

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has announced the extension of lockdown and restriction of movement in the state till Sunday.
The initial lockdown in the state was to expire on Thursday (today) but the governor announced an additional three days extension.
Oyetola announced that starting from Monday, the lockdown would be eased and curfew would begin in the state.
He added that the curfew would be from 6:00pm to 6:00am while there shall be a restriction on vehicular movement.

He however, exempted verified medical emergencies and those on essential duties from the curfew.
He said, “Dear good people of Osun, as you’re all aware, the two-week lockdown expires at midnight today. But to avoid escalating community transmission of COVID-19, we’ve decided to extend the lockdown by another three days, starting from 11:59pm on Thursday, 30th April till Sunday, 3rd May.
“All prevailing lockdown conditions shall subsist during this period, and violators shall be dealt with in accordance with the law. I, therefore, urge you all to continue to adhere to the lockdown directive.
“However, as from Monday, 4th May, 2020, the lockdown will be eased and new rules shall be enforced in line with the recommendations of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the approval of Mr President and our peculiar situation in Osun.
“There shall be partial lockdown between 6:00am and 5:00pm from Monday to Thursday to enable the people go about their businesses and allow government to run. However, total lockdown shall be in force from 6:00pm on Thursday to Sunday.
“There shall also be a dusk to dawn curfew from 6:00pm – 6:00am from Monday to Thursday until further notice.
“Movement of vehicle and persons are outlawed during the period of the curfew except for verified medical emergency cases and those on essential duties.”

COVID-19: Ondo NLC Demands Palliatives For Civil Servants

The Nigerian Labour Congress in Ondo State has asked Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to provide some palliatives to civil servants in the state.
The union said no civil servant in the state had benefited from the palliatives being distributed by the government across the 18 local council areas in Ondo since the lockdown occasioned by the spread of Coronavirus.
It also said there was need for government to pay special allowance to health workers in the state fighting to ensure an end to the pandemic. 

The demand was contained in a joint statement by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole, and Secretary, Mr Omokehinde Shadow, on Thursday to commemorate this year’s Workers Day celebration.
The union said in line with the mandate of its national body, it would not accept any cut or deduction in salaries of workers in the state to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
It added that organised labour in the state must be consulted before government go ahead with any reduction in salaries of workers.

BREAKING: Fela’s Ex-drummer, Tony Allen, Dies In France

Former drummer, composer and songwriter of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Tony Allen, has passed away. 
Allen died in Paris, France, on Thursday. 
He was born in Lagos in 1940 and was regarded as one of the founders of Afrobeat. 

Fela once stated that, “Without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat.”
Allen has also been described by Brian Eno as “perhaps the greatest drummer who ever lived”.

Akwa Ibom Records One COVID-19 Death

Akwa-Ibom State has recorded one death from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Governor Udom Emmanuel made this known on Thursday while giving update about the virus in the state.
Emmanuel, who appeared upbeat about the incident, stressed that the state had a remarkable recovery rate and commended health workers working round the clock to manage the pandemic in the state. 

He said, “The last laboratory test we conducted on 44 suspected cases, three persons were confirmed positive, while we lost one. The patient we lost was a 68-year-old woman, who was transferred to the centre totally unconscious and with outstanding co-morbidities.”
The governor appealed to residents to refrain from self medication, calling on medical doctors running private hospitals to desist from attempting to treat any case with symptoms related to COVID-19.

Mortuary Operator, Attendant Arraigned In Ondo Court Over Missing Corpse

A mortuary operator and employee have been arraigned at a magistrate court sitting in Owo, Ondo State, over the missing corpse of a woman at the facility. 
The two persons were identified as Oladejo Edubi and Samuel Oluwatodimu. 
The body of late Mrs Rebecca Ogunoye was deposited at the 
morgue of Adeyemi Hospital in Isuada community under Owo Local Council Area. 

Both men were arraigned in court on three counts including conspiracy to commit misdemeanor.
Speaking in the Court, Owolabi Edu, the police prosecutor in the case, said the two men had been investigated and found wanting in the case. 
He said their offence was punishable under Sections 517, 242 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
In their separate pleas, the two defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
The defence counsel, Mr Osaze Uwadie, sought the bail of his clients in liberal terms. 
While delivering the ruling, Magistrate Olubunmi  Dosunmu granted the two men bail in the sum of N200,000 each and with one surety in like sum. 
She later barred the hospital from taking in new corpses for embalment pending the determination of the substantive case.
She further ordered a comprehensive list of already deposited corpses to be forwarded to the registrar of the court.
The Jude later adjourned the case until June 10, 2020 for further hearing.
