Nadal not focused on Federer’s Grand Slam record

Rafael Nadal insists he is not focused on chasing Roger Federer’s record Grand Slam haul, but admits it would be “amazing” if he manages to eclipse the Swiss star’s tally of 20 majors won.
Nadal’s heroics in 2019 saw him capture a 12th Roland Garros and fourth US Open and the Spaniard is now just one Slam shy of Federer’s men’s all-time record.
At 33, Nadal became the oldest year-end No.1 when he secured that position last month, following a tremendous season that saw him scoop four titles on tour, along with the Davis Cup crown for Spain.

Delta oil community shuts down Shell Company flow station

Locals from Ojobo community in Burutu local government area of Delta State, have stormed the Beneside Flow station operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC leading to a forceful shutdown of the facility.
The protest is coming two days after the community issued a 48hours ultimatum to SPDC to address issues the company entered with the community as contained in an existing General Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU.

Obaseki’s reforms: Economic activities peak, as Azman Air commence operations to Benin

With the pick-up of economic activities in Edo State following reforms by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, Azman Air has joined other commercial operators on the Benin route.
A representative of Azman Air, Dr. Muhammad Hadi Abdulmunaf, who was on board the maiden flight to Benin Airport, Air Boeing 737, 300 series from Abuja, said the airline is commencing operations with three weekly flights to Benin, while plans are on to increase the flights to five times a week.

The meeting which started about 11.6am at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, has in attendance governors of the 36 States of the Federation.
Also in attendance are ministers that are saddled with the nation’s economy including the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

He said it is doubtful that the country can count on its national institutions of education to drive its development conversation like other great institution of research have done throughout the ages.
Delivering a keynote address at the First Tunde Ponle Annual Lecture with the theme: Building a Truly 21st Century University; A Task Beyond Government, at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium of the institution campus in Osogbo, he the responsibility of reversing the decline in the quality of the university is primarily that of the government.

Obaseki sets N2bn monthly target for 8-man IGR committee

…charges c’ttee to expand state’s tax net
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has inaugurated an eight-man committee headed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, to oversee the process of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection in the state.
The governor set a minimum N2bn monthly target for the committee, noting that the target was realistic given the internal analysis of revenue projections in the state.

Following series of meetings between Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) boss, Ibrahim Magu and Dubai authorities, embattled former attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke has departed Dubai en route Nigeria.
The ex-AGF left Dubai following pressure from EFCC. He is being accompanied by INTERPOL officers on Emirates Airlines Flight 785.
The aircraft departed the Emirati commercial capital at about 11am Dubai time (8am Nigerian time).

Bauchi immunization-resistant community makes U-turn, says ‘we’re ignorant’

Residents of Kururu, a Hard-To-Reach (HTR) settlement in Ningi local government area of Bauchi state have made U-turn on their stance on immunization after many years of resistance.
The residents told Vanguard yesterday that they changed their position on accepting immunization after EU-UNICEF medical team visited their community to provide free treatment for women and under-5 children.
They said it was easy to understand the importance of immunization because the EU-UNICEF medical outreach team members were familiar faces they have known for some time.

Bauchi communities urge government to support EU-UNICEF medical outreach

Residents of communities in Ganjuwa and Ningi local government areas have called on Bauchi state government to provide more support for EU-UNICEF sponsored medical outreaches in Hard-To-Reach communities for sustainable outcomes.
Beneficiaries at Hardo Gaga, Kururu settlements in Ganjuwa and Ningi local government areas respectively told Vanguard on Thursday during an EU-UNICEF medical session where some of the 1,200 trained Volunteer Community Oriented Resource Persons (CORPs) provided medical services to people in Hard-To-Reach (HTR) communities, how they would want Bauchi state government to continue with the programme started by the two international bodies.
