Updated: CAS lifts Chelsea’s transfer ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has lifted the transfer window ban on Chelsea Football Club of England.
CAS halved the club’s transfer ban, a move against the two transfer windows ban imposed on Chelsea by FIFA. FIFA ban was due to cover last summer and next month (January transfer).
Chelsea are now free to buy player(s) in January 2020 transfer window as CAS lift ban on them.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting behind closed doors with the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the 36 State Chairmen of the party and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The meeting started at about 12pm at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa Abuja.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not made public, Vanguard gathered that it may not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the APC national leadership and the intraparty squabble between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and this predecessor and national Chairman, Oshiomhole.

Nairobi governor arrested over alleged corruption

The Kenyan authorities on Friday arrested the governor of Nairobi county, Mike Sonko, on suspicion of involvement in a multi-million dollar corruption scandal.

The director of public prosecutions ordered the arrest, saying he had enough evidence to prosecute Mr. Sonko and a number of other county officials for crimes including money laundering and unlawful acquisition of public property.
He said the investigation had been challenging because of repeated attempts by the accused to obstruct it.

Two farmers docked for stealing wood worth N.4m

Two farmers – Sunday Sobijor and Peter Marcus – on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged forcible entry into farmland and stole logs of wood valued at N400,000.

The defendants whose addresses were not given are facing a three-count charge of felony, trespassing and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences on July 7 at 10:30 a.m.

ICPC, others harp on war against corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday urged Nigerians to fight corruption for a better society and success of the next generations.

The Chief Superintendent of the ICPC, Mr. Godwin Achile, gave the advice at a symposium held in commemoration of 2019 Disability awareness week organised by Centre for Citizens with Disabilities in Enugu.
Achile said that corruption could be fought by everyone, irrespective of social status or physical disability.

17 persons escape death in Anambra multiple crash

No fewer than 17 persons escaped death in a multiple crash involving three vehicles on the old Enugu-Onitsha expressway in Anambra.
The accident occurred on the Nkpor/Umuoji stretch of the road.
Mr Pascal Anigbo, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the crash to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the vehicles included a red Mitsubishi bus with registration number JJT920ZW, a white Hummer bus without registration number and a truck marked KPE686XA.

Court extends order for Ojezua to remain as Edo APC chairman

An Edo State High Court has extended the order directing that Anselm Ojezua be recognised as chairman of the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The extension was granted by Justice O. Oviawe, on Thursday, December 5, ordering that the status quo as at 10th of November, 2019 with regards to the chairmanship of the APC be maintained.
She said that the extension would last till December 11, when all applications on the case is slated for hearing.
