Hit-and-run driver kills woman in Awka

A yet to be identified woman was on Sunday night killed by a hit-and-run driver in Awka, Anambra State.

The accident occurred at 11:05 p.m. at Regina Caeli Junction on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
According to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Andrew Ikumapayi, the woman died on the spot.
Kumapayi said the woman’s corpse had been deposited at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue, Awka.

Woman killed by hit-and-run driver in Awka

According to Mr Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, the accident left the woman dead instantly.

Enugu Rangers, Enyimba lose CAF Cup group openers

Nigerian contenders Enugu Rangers and Enyimba were both beaten by north African clubs on Sunday as the CAF Confederation Cup group phase kicked off.
Enugu Rangers coach Salisu Yusuf lost his first match in charge, with the sending off of defender Temitope Olusesi not helping as they crashed 3-1 at home against Egyptian opponents Pyramids.
Two-time African champions Enyimba conceded twice within 19 minutes of the kick-off to lose 2-0 away to Moroccan outfit Hassania Agadir, who reached the quarter-finals last season.

‘Trump, lawyers won’t participate in impeachment hearing this week’

The office of the President of the United States on Sunday told opposition (Democrats) lawmakers that the US president, Donald Trump and his lawyers will not be participating in a congressional impeachment hearing this week, citing a lack of “fundamental fairness.”
This is coming a few days after the president tweeted he is willing to testify to get the nation’s government-focused again instead of being distracted by the impeachment hearing.
Trump’s aides responded defiantly to the first of two crucial deadlines he faces in Congress this week as Democrats prepare to shift the focus of their impeachment inquiry from fact-finding to the consideration of possible charges of misconduct over his dealings with Ukraine.

Breaking: Court orders seizure of Emirates Aircraft over judgment debt

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the siezure of an aircraft belonging to Emirates Airline over N8.1 million judgment debt.
The order was sequel to a motion filed by Dr Charles Mekwunye seeking for the enforcement of a Supreme Court judgment in a suit between Promise Mekwunye and the airline.
Granting the reliefs sought by Mekwunye, Justice Mohammed Liman, held, “It is accordingly ordered that an attachment is hereby issued on the judgment debtor’s aircraft registered as ‘A6 Aircraft Type 77W EK: 783/784’, or any other aircraft belonging to the judgment debtor which flies into Nigeria Territory, to be arrested and detained until the judgment debt is fully paid: in default after 30 days, the aircraft shall be auctioned to satisfy the judgment debt.”
The judge also ordered that Emirates Airline shall bear the cost of maintainance and custody of the detained aircraft.

Nigerians react as Enugu Rangers allegedly sack coach over public address system

There were reports over the weekend of Nigerian Professional Football League side, Enugu Rangers announcing the sack of its coach, Benedict Ugwu, over the public address system even while the game was still on.
Benedict Ugwu was in the dugout for the game against Akwa starlets in a league game when the sack was announced. The game ended 0-2 in favor of Akwa Starlet.

Death toll put at 20 for Mexico cartel attack near US border

Mexican security officials on Sunday reported the death of seven more members of a presumed cartel assault force. This now put at 20 the death toll of the members of the presumed cartel assault force that rolled into a town near the Texas border.
The Coahuila state government said in a statement that lawmen aided by helicopters were still chasing remnants of the force that arrived in a convoy of pickup trucks and attacked the city hall of Villa Union on Saturday.
