BREAKING: Senate passes finance bill to raise VAT from 5 to 7.5 percent

The Senate on Thursday passed the Finance Bill presented to it by President Muhammadu Buhari to raise the country’s Value Added  Tax(VAT) from 5 to 7.5 percent.
The bill has five strategic objectives of promoting fiscal equity, reforming domestic tax laws and raising revenue.
The Bill is entitled, ” A Bill for an Act to Make for incremental changes to Nigeria Tax and Fiscal Law and for Other Related Matters therewith, 2019( SB 140).

Her eyes were red, hair disheveled, as she bites her lip, trying to hold back the tears that are now beginning to trickle down her face. Arms akimbo, she shakes her head in regret but Gladys Chibueke can’t stop thinking why it has to be her husband in a killing that has to continued to shock this timber town during the last presidential election.
She lost her husband when gunmen opened fire on voters in the Amukpe area of Sapele, Delta State on the day Nigerians voted for their President and Federal lawmakers.

47 percent of Nigerian workers are likely to leave their current employer in the next six months a survey report of Jobberman revealed.
The survey report titled: “Jobberman best 100 companies to work for in 2019?, showed that out of 3,148 respondents (consisting of employees and career professionals across Nigerian owned companies and multinationals) interviewed, 47 percent are willing to leave their current job.
Speaking at the launch of the report in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer, Jobberman, Mrs, Hilda Kabushenga Kragha said:” A total of 3,148 valid responses were used in the final analysis with data from two surveys-extenal and internal.

BREAKING: Gov Ayade presents 1.1trn budget estimate for 2020

…abolishes tax for SMEs,Civil Servants earning below 100,000 naira

Cross River state governor, Prof Ben Ayade has presented the 2020 budget estimate of 1.1trillion naira tagged budget of “Olimpotic Meristemasis” to the State House of Assembly.
Ayade has also abolished payment of tax by small scale entrepreneurs like barbing saloon, welders, stylists amongst others.
According to him, he would rather tax his brain than tax the people, so no more daily payment of N500 by Okada riders and taxis but they will now pay  1000 and 2000 monthly for Okada and taxis respectively adding that all civil servants whose salaries were below 100,000 naira were also exempted from paying tax.

Bayelsa: INEC presents certificates of return to Lyon, deputy

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday presented Certificates of Return to the winner of last Saturday governorship election in Bayelsa State, David Lyon and his running mate, Senator Degi Eremienyon.

Lyon, who represented the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election defeated Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to become the state sixth democratically elected governor since its creation in 1996.
Also presented with the certificate of return at the event held at the INEC headquarters in Yenagoa, the state capital, was the winner of the supplementary election for Brass State Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr.

Ndokwa indigenes decry marginalisation by Federal govt

Indigenes of Ndokwa nation have lamented what they described as the continued marginalization of the ethnic nationality by the Federal Government.
Some of the indigenes who staged a peaceful protest at Kwale, headquarters of Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, decried the absence of federal presence in the Ndokwa nation and the non-appointment of their people by successive administrations of the Federal Government.
