Senate will pass 2020 Budget on Nov. 28, Lawan insists

The Nigerian Senate has given its Appropriations Committee an ultimatum of two weeks to work on the 2020 Budget and lay it on 26th November for subsequent consideration and passage before the end of next month.
Against this backdrop, President of the Senate,  Senator Ahmad Lawan has insisted that the resolve of the National Assembly to revert to the January to December budget cycle remained sacrosanct.

Bolivia battles to restore stability as fallen Morales reaches Mexico

Bolivia’s former leader Evo Morales landed in Mexico on Tuesday pledging to keep up his political “fight”, as security forces back home quelled unrest over the leftist’s resignation and the country sought an interim replacement to fill a power vacuum.
Morales thanked Mexico for “saving his life” as he arrived to take up asylum in the country and repeated his accusation that his rivals had ousted him in a coup after violence broke out following a disputed election last month.

Facebook unites payment service across apps with Facebook Pay

Facebook Inc (FB.O) said on Tuesday it was launching Facebook Pay, a unified payment service through which users across its platforms including WhatsApp and Instagram can make payments without exiting the app.
The social network said the service would allow users to send money or make a payment with security options such as PIN or biometrics on their smartphones.

Alaghodaro 2019: We’ll empower 18,000 women in Edo with micro-grant – Halima Dangote

The Group Executive Director, Dangote Industries Limited, Halima Aliko-Dangote, has said that the Aliko Dangote Foundation will provide 18,000 women across the 18 local government areas of Edo State with microgrants to improve their livelihood.
Dangote, who is also an Executive Director of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, said this during a plenary session on ‘Enhancing Social Welfare in Edo State,’ at the Alaghodaro 2019 Summit, held in Benin City, to mark Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration’s third year anniversary.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Architect Olamilekan Adegbite, Tuesday, disclosed that the ministry will establish gemstone laboratories in the country.
Adegbite who was on a familiarization tour at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, NGSA, decried outsourcing of gemstones from the country to other countries for referencing, which he said would not continue anymore.

He also tasked the NGSA to look into the establishment of gemstone laboratories that have huge potential to generate revenue and create jobs, hence should develop human resource capital that would attain the Gemological Institute of America, GIA, standard and certification that would establish the laboratories.
