The police in Edo and Ondo states have begun trading blames over the abduction of Justice Abdul Dogo of the Federal High, Akure, Ondo.
Both police formations are embroiled in blame games over whose jurisdiction should have been responsible for Dogo’s rescue.

The Federal High Court judge was abducted on the Ibilo axis of Edo/Isua Road.

The abductors had contacted the family through his wife and demanded for N50m.
The abduction of Justice Dogo has continued to stirr different reactions and controversies on the social media.
However, the police in Ondo had claimed that the Isua/Ibilo spot where the judge was kidnapped was outside its jurisdiction.
Femi Joseph, spokesperson of the Ondo Police Command, said they shall be working to ensure the safe release of the judge.
He said, “Much as we empathise with the family of the victim, we want to make it clear that the incident did not happen anywhere in Ondo State.
“The incident actually occurred in ibilo, Edo State. However, we are working with our colleagues in whose jurisdiction this incident occurred to ensure that the judge is rescued unhurt and also apprehend the perpetrators.
“We appeal to anyone with useful information that could lead to his rescue and the arrest of the culprits not to hesitate to let the police know.”
However, Edo Police Command disputed the claim, noting that the judge was kidnapped in Ondo according to their own finding.
Speaking to SaharaReporter, Mr Chidi Nwanbuzo, spokesperson for the Command, revealed that they were not to blame.
He said, “I would meet the OC in charge of Anti-kidnapping but let me state that the jurisdiction is not part of our command.
“It’s the Ondo Police Command that should be responsible for it because it happened in Ondo State.”
In a related development, the Nigeria Bar Association has called on security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the judge whose whereabout is still unknown.
Daniel Olawale, NBA Chairman in Akure, made the call in a message obtained by SaharaReporters.
He condemned the kidnapping of the judge and raised concern about incessant abduction for ransoms in the country.
He said, “We urge security agencies to do all within their capacity to ensure his (Justice Dogo) release.”

Buhari, who was in Russia for a summit, arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday evening.
An eyewitness stuck in the girdlock, Tosin Adeniji, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said, “It has caused a lot of traffic for people going towards Banex, Maitama, Secretariat.

US Court Sentences Nigerian To Six Years, Six Months In Prison

A court in Tennessee, United States, has sentenced Olufolajimi Abegunde, a Nigerian residing in that country to 78 months in prison following his conviction for cyber fraud.
The US Department of Justice made this known in a statement released on its website.
According to the statement, Brian A. Benczkowski, Assistant Attorney-General of the Criminal Division, and D. Michael, an attorney in Dunavant of the Western District of Tennessee, announced that Sheryl Lipman handed out the judgment on Tuesday.
The judge ordered Abegunde, who has an MBA from Texas A&M University in College Station, to pay $57,911.62 in restitution to the victims of his offence.
Abegunde and one Javier Luis Ramos-Alonso, 29, were convicted in March after a seven-day trial.
Ramos-Alonso received a 31-month sentence for his role in the scam.
The convicts are said to have received more than $10,000,000 to the detriment of US citizens and businesses.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that the Nigerian engaged in black-market currency exchanges over the life of the conspiracy.
The statement said, “Purporting to hold himself out as a legitimate businessman, Abegunde claimed association with a business entity that was not yet operational in late 2017, so for his primary source of income he relied on his off-the-book currency exchanges.
“Through this network, Abegeunde played a key role along with Ramos-Alonso in laundering fraud funds from an October 3, 2016, business email compromise (BEC) of a land title company located in Bellingham, Washington.
“The proceeds of another BEC perpetrated in July 2016 upon a real estate company in Memphis, Tennessee, also moved through parts of the same criminal organisation.
“While incarcerated and awaiting trial in the Western District of Tennessee, Abegunde continued his conspiratorial activities, trying to convince his fake spouse, who has since filed for divorce to refuse to testify against him.
“Abegunde also engaged in witness tampering by sending a self-written motion to dismiss bearing his former attorney’s name and professional attestation.
“The evidence at trial established that Abegunde drafted and sent the motion, which his attorney expressly did not authorise to his faux spouse in an effort to deceive her into not testifying against him.”

BREAKING: Court Sentences Maina To Prison

Maina in court

Maina in court

ChannelsTV

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has remanded former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, in prison custody.
Maina was arraigned on Friday and pleaded not guilty to the 12-count charge bordering on money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud brought against him.
At the resumed hearing of the case, the defence counsel, Ahmed Raji, asked the court to allow the defendant more time and facility to prepare for his defence.
Prosecution counsel, M.S Abubakar, in his submission told the court that they were ready for the commencement of the trial since the defendant was in court.
The prosecution urged the court not to consider the application filed by the defence for bail, describing it as incompetent.
Delivering his ruling after he had listened to the arguments of both prosecution and defence counsels on bail application, the presiding judge, Justice Abang Okon, ordered Maina to be remanded at the correctional service and be allowed to see his lawyers.
Abang also fixed November 19, 2019 to consider the competence of the bail application filed prior to Maina arraignment
He therefore adjourned the matter to October 30 for commencement of trial.
He added that the trial would be day to day and no frivolous application for adjournment would be entertained.
After a four-year manhunt, Maina was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services at a hotel in Abuja after allegedly sneaking into the country from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
