Pope Francis’ chief bodyguard resigns over leaked financial scandal

Pope Francis’ chief bodyguard has resigned over the leak of a Vatican police flyer identifying five employees who were suspended as part of a financial investigation.
The Vatican said its police chief, 57-year-old Domenico Giani, bore no responsibility for the leaked flyer but resigned to avoid disrupting the investigation and “out of love for the church and faithfulness” to the pope.
The person who leaked the document to the Italian newsweekly L’Espresso remains unknown.

Trump hits Turkey with tariffs, threatens sanctions over Syria incursion

The United States President, Donald Trump has on Monday stated he would authorise sanctions against Turkish officials and threatens to halt all negotiation with Turkey on a $100 billion trade deal.
Trump said he would boost tariffs on the country’s steel to 50 per cent over Ankara’s incursions into northeast Syria.
Turkey launched the cross-border assault on Kurdish YPG militia on Wednesday after Trump withdrew some U.S. troops from the region, drawing sharp criticism from fellow Republicans who accused him abandoning allies who fought against Islamic State.

DESOPADEC has been fair to Itsekiri nation – Omatsuli

MANAGING Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Askia Ogieh, Monday, stated that the commission is on a positive paradigm shift geared towards the development of the oil producing areas in the state.
The position by Askia is coming just as the commissioner representing Itsekiri ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC board, Mr. Giftson Omatsuli expressed commendation on the efforts of the interventionist agency, stressing that, “DESOPADEC has been fair to Itsekiri nation based on the level of projects in the area.”
Askia, during the DESOPADEC Town Hall meeting with stakeholders from Itsekiri nation with the theme, “The Itsekiri nation at a development crossroad: The way forward,” assured them that, based on the production quantum accrued to them and with their son, Michael Diden as chairman, the Itsekiri nation should expect positive developmental strides from the board.

Court awards N20m against Nigerian Army over harassment of Rivers LG chair, two others

A State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered the Nigerian Army to pay the sum of N20 million as damages to the Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State and two other persons, for harassing them during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Nigerian military had raided the homes of Roland Sekibo, Tobins Tobins and Damiete Dokubo and declared them wanted over allegations of sponsoring hoodlums to truncate the electoral process to favour the PDP in the state.

Sanwo-Olu reverses Ambode’s LAGESC to KAI
