My daughter is still alive, trapped, Ondo flood victim’s father says

Joshe Boluwaji, the father of the 25-year-old final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Doyin Boluwaji drowned by flood Wednesday said his daughter is still alive and will still come back home.
He begged the state government to help bring back her daughter from wherever she was trapped.
Yesterday was the fourth day that the student had been swept away by flood into the canal while trying to escape during heavy rainfall.

Zamfara Assembly stops members from discussing security issues during plenary

The Speaker of Zamfara House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya on Thursday reiterated that the assembly would no longer discuss issues of security at plenary.

Magarya said at the House sitting that the decision was because certain sensitive issues needed to be discussed in close door session at the committee of the whole.
The speaker was reacting to the motion raised by the lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South, Alhaji Sani Dahiru-Adafka over security challenges facing his constituency.

Women are currently leading men in enrollment at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, as the quest of Nigerians for higher education keeps growing.
NOUN said reports at its disposal indicated that at the moment, women population at the university stands at 53 percent against that of the male which trailed behind with 47 percent.
Chairman of Council of NOUN, Prof. Peter Okebukola,at a press conference, Thursday evening in Abuja,where he said the Council of the institution had approved the recommendation of the Senate for the appointment of Prof.Uduma Orji of the Department of Philosophy as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic),said the university was gratified over the development.

Minister of women affairs reiterates commitment to girls’ empowerment

The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, has reiterated commitment to empower girls and help them to harness their potential and contribute to the development of society.
Tallen, who was represented by Mr Joseph Dzungwe, Ministry of Women Affairs in Abuja on Thursday,  said this at an event to commemorate the International Day of the Girl-Child.
The annual event, celebrated on Oct.11, was declared by the UN to create a platform for more girls worldwide and to increase awareness on issues of gender equality.

WAEC appoints Mr Pateh Bah, from Gambia as new Registrar

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Mr Pateh Bah, from Gambia, as its new Registrar/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a five-year tenure.
 

A statement by Mr Abiodun Aduloju, Director of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters, Accra, Ghana, said the appointment took effect from October 2019 to September 2024.
 
Bah succeeds Dr Iyi Uwadiae, immediate past Registrar to council from Nigeria, whose tenure ended on Sept.

Gunmen abduct NSCDC officer, two children, kill one in Kuje

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed one person and abducted a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, with his two children at Dafara community, in Kuje Area Council, FCT.

The District Head of the community, Makeri Joseph, told newsmen in Kuje on Thursday that the incident happened around 12 0’ clock on Wednesday night with the gunmen shooting sporadically into the air.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident is the second within a week in Kuje Area Council.

E2%80%95-lasema-boss/ 3-storey building collapsed, 3 injured in Lagos ? LASEMA boss

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that a three-storey building on Lekki Expressway collapsed at about 7.14 p.m. on Thursday in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the collapsed building is situated at  Sharks Squad, LASEMA, enroute Kingdom Hall street, Abijo, along Lekki-Epe expressway.
He said that the collapsed three-storey building was under construction, while three people had been rescued.

Dickson appoints 60 Special Advisers

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has approved the appointment of 60 new Special Advisers.
He also directed the caucuses to nominate women for appointment as special advisers next week, in areas where they have not been considered for appointment.
Dickson in a statement issued Thursday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Fidelis Soriwei said the move was part of the deliberate efforts to enable the Restoration Government to finish strong in the avowed commitment to deliver effective governance to the good people of Bayelsa State.
