Buhari calls for appreciation of historical relationships among communities

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for better appreciation of historical relationship among communities.  He also said that he is fully committed to the unity of Nigeria, and will devote his time and energy to promoting it for the benefit of Nigerians.
The President made his feelings known during a visit to the State House by a delegation of Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers led by the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Arsenal join race for Feyernoord’s £20m-rated midfielder, Orkun Kokcu

Arsenal are monitoring Feyenoord’s teenage midfielder Orkun Kokcu.
The 18-year-old midfielder is fast emerging as one of the brightest prospects in Holland and is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, according to DailyMail report.
The Gunners are understood to be among those watching the teenager closely.
Despite his age, he has been a regular for Feyenoord this season and has played for Turkey Under 21s – though he has also represented Holland at the junior level.

Malawi policeman ‘stoned to death’ by anti-government protesters

The clashes between Malawi protesters and police has on Tuesday resulted in the death of a Police officer according to the Police spokesperson.
Police spokesman James Kadadzerab told news agency AFP that officer Usumani Imedi had been stoned to death and “killed by rioters and criminals”.
He was among officers who confronted demonstrators who had blocked the main road in Msundwe, an opposition stronghold, to stop supporters of President Peter Mutharika’s from attending his first rally in the city since his controversial election win in May.

Two Ghanaian lecturers who were secretly filmed sexually harassing undercover BBC reporters (in the S** For Grade documentary) have been suspended pending an investigation.
University of Ghana lecturers Ransford Gyampo and Dr Paul Kwame Butakor propositioned journalists posing as students for a BBC documentary.
Both Professor Gyampo and Dr Butakor denied any wrongdoing.
The suspensions follow similar action against two lecturers in Nigeria, who were also filmed by the BBC.

LASU to incorporate community law into law programme curriculum

The Lagos State University says it will incorporate community law into its faculty of law curriculum.

The Dean of Faculty of Law of the University, Professor Funminiyi Adeleke disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement while speaking with the delegation of the ECOWAS court in Lagos.
The decision followed the five days mission of the delegation of the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS to Lagos State and the institution.

Zimbabwe has raised its average electricity tariff by 320 per cent to ramp up power supplies at a time of daily blackouts but the move will likely anger consumers already grappling with soaring inflation and stagnant wages.

The southern African country is experiencing its worst economic crisis in 10 years, seen in triple-digit inflation, 18-hour power cuts and shortages of US dollars, medicines and fuel that have evoked the dark days of the 2008 hyperinflation under late President Robert Mugabe, according to Reuters report.

FCTA decries high rate of abandoned babies, calls for use of condom

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Wednesday in Abuja decried the high rate at which new born babies are being abandoned across the nooks and crannies of the territory.

Acting Secretary of the FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS), FCTA, Mrs Safiya Umar said this when she took delivery of a baby boy abandoned in Sauka, along Airport road, Abuja.
Umar said the situation was becoming worrisome and very disturbing to the FCTA.
