At least three protesters and one policeman have been killed in Iraq’s southern city of Nasiriyah, according to a monitoring group, after nationwide anti-government protests devolved into violence that saw security forces fire live rounds and tear gas for a second straight day.
The unrest on Wednesday came a day after at least two protesters – one in Baghdad and one in Nasiriyah – were killed and hundreds of people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters demanding jobs and better public services.

Concerned about the estimated annual projection of 371,000 children under the age of 5 to suffer Severe Acute Malnutrition, SAM, Department for International Department, DFID has invested a total of N18.2 billion (41 million pounds) to curb the menace in Borno and Yobe  States.
Statistics obtained from the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, revealed that nationwide, an estimated 2.5 million boys and girls under the age of 5 suffer from SAM every year in Nigeria.

A federal judge in New York City has denied bail to R&B singer R. Kelly in his s**-abuse case.
Kelly didn’t attend the hearing on Wednesday on a defence motion asking for his release on bond. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly agreed with prosecutors that he’s a flight risk and a potential threat to witnesses.
He remains detained in Chicago, where he faces related charges. A judge there hasn’t ruled on a request to reconsider releasing him on bond.

CSOs kick as FG moves to reintroduce tollgates on federal highways

FOLLOWING moves by the Federal Government to reintroduce tollgates on federal highways, Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, Wednesday, kicked against the decision.
Reacting to the planned return of tollgates, the Convener, Concerned Nigerians, CN, Prince Deji Adeyanju, described the plan as anti-people policy and said would be resisted.
Adeyanju said the government does not mean well for the Nigerian people following increment of income tax, Value Added Tax, VAT, stamp duty, and others, therefore should not go on to return tollgates on federal highways.
