E2%80%93unhcr target=_blank>Nigeria Needs $35.5m To Tackle Crisis In North-West –UNHCR

Nigeria needs $35.5m before the end of the year to combat a humanitarian emergency that has displaced 40,000 people in the North-West region of the country, according to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
Spokesperson for the agency, Babar Baloch, said the displacement happened over a four-month period, adding that “It paints a horrible picture of lawlessness and insecurity”.
According to Reuters, the UNHCR said the victims were not coming from the Northeast where Boko Haram and the Islamic State of the West African Province have stayed strong but from Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and other parts of the North-West.
Baloch said they had received reports of frequent kidnapping, torture, extortion, murder and sexual violence by attackers, who also destroy homes and steal property.
It was gathered that Nigerians have been trooping into Niger Republic to seek cover from the bandits.
The UNHCR also observed that military and police forces have been deployed to tackle criminal gangs in the region.
The commission said it expects more Nigerians to cross the border into Niger Republic especially from Sokoto State.
While the violence in the North continues, the Nigerian Government has said it would resume its ‘Crocodile Smile’ and ‘Python Dance’ in the South-South and South-East regions of the country.
This would undoubtedly spend the already overstretched army in places where a firm civilian presence might have been more effective.

target=_blank>EXCLUSIVE: Continue To Demand For A Better Country, Sowore Urges Nigerians From Detention

Pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has called on Nigerians all over the world not to lose sight of the struggle but continue to demand for a better country.
Sowore made the call on Friday from the headquarters of the Department of State Services in Abuja where he is currently being held following his arrest in the early hours of August 3, 2019, in Lagos for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to demand better leadership in the country.
Sowore said, “I call on all Nigerians from around the world not to lose sight of the struggle. I urge them to continue to demand for a better country.
“They must keep fighting for freedom from their oppressors in a struggle for the soul of the country.
“Nigerians must rise up against this affront to democracy and create a country which can support their aspirations.”
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja had on Tuesday directed the DSS to release Sowore on bail earlier.
But despite fulfilling his bail condition and several attempt by the court and his lawyers to have the agency obey that directive, Sowore is yet to be released by the government, drawing condemnation from across the globe.

E2%80%99s-detention target=_blank>New York Resident Writes Gbajabiamila, Fayemi, El-Rufai Over Sowore’s Detention

A resident of New York, United States of America, Ademola Bello, has called on Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, and Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to intervene in the continued detention of pro-democracy activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on Tuesday ordered the Department of State Services to release Sowore on bail but three days after that ruling, the agency was yet to comply.
Addressing a letter to Gbajabiamila and the others on Friday over the matter, Bello said that the continued detention of Sowore had tarnished Nigeria’s reputation in the international community.
He said, “It is unfortunate that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has a penchant for violating court orders.
“The bizarre charges against Omoyele Sowore and the continued harassment and detention of journalists doing their lawful jobs in Nigeria has tarnished Nigeria’s reputation in the international community.
“Your (Gbajabiamila, Fayemi, el-Rufai) silence while the rights of Omoyele Sowore and other unlawfully detained journalists and activists are being violated is like fiddling while Rome burns.
“By the way, the three of you did not acknowledge receiving the open letter email Columbia University, an Ivy League school, sent you last week concerning Omoyele Sowore’s continued detention. It is shameful.”
Bello also called for all the “bogus” charges levelled against Sowore to be immediately dropped.

target=_blank>Husband Kills Wife In Ondo Over Disagreement

A 50-year-old man, Daniyan Ojo, has killed his wife, Dorcas, in Akure, Ondo State, by setting her ablaze, SaharaReportershas learnt.
It was learnt that the husband, who is a welder, had been having issues with his wife in recent times before the sad incident.
A neighbour to the victim, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, who confirmed the incident on Friday to our correspondent, said they were all shocked over the incident.
She said, “We were asleep at night when we heard the woman calling for help.
“Initially, we could not come out from our apartments because we feared that the noise was from armed robbers who may have invaded the area.
“But immediately we saw fire coming of their apartment, we rush out to rescue Dorcas but she had already been burnt by the fire.
“She was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where she eventually died.
“Later, we got to know that she and her husband had been quarrelling over documents relating to the sale of a land.
“It was this disagreement that made the husband set his wife ablaze.”
According to Bose Richard, a younger sister to the deceased, the victim had been the one taking care of the family for a long time.
“My elder sister was the person taking care of him (husband) and the five children before he eventually killed her.
“This would be the third time he would be pouring petrol on his wife (my sister) with the aim of killing her and now he has finally killed her.
“This same woman bought two vehicles for him but he never appreciated it, instead he sold them.”
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the police in Ondo, Femi Joseph, said that they had arrested the man with a view to investigating the case.
“Although, the man in question has denied his involvement in the incident, we do believe that he knows more than what he is telling us.
“For instance, the daughter told us that their father brought a keg of petrol and asked them to vacate the room.
“But their mother did not leave and around 11:00pm of that day, they noticed the outbreak of fire in the room where she slept.
“Before they knew what was happening, the woman had been burnt beyond recognition.
“We are currently investigating the case and we shall get to the root of it all.”

E2%80%99s-spiritual-father-%E2%80%93ilorin-pastor target=_blank>Real Reason I Stopped Being Fatoyinbo’s Spiritual Father –Ilorin pastor

Presiding Pastor of Champions’ Church, Ilorin, Kwara State, Emmanuel Oset, has revealed in an interview with Arise TVthe real reason he had to stop being the spiritual father of founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo.
According to Oset, he had tried all he could to make Fatoyinbo turn a new leaf but he couldn’t succeed, hence he had to severe his relationship with him.
Oset said, “Our Lord Jesus Christ knew that Judas had become a thief but it wasn’t Jesus who said so, it was John who said so. Not because Jesus was weak, but because Jesus was hoping that this man would change.
“You always find in the scripture, the purpose of God is redemptive. Before God comes with judgment in any case, you will see that He would have tried to get through to the person. It is when His love has been rebuffed and rebuffed again that He comes with judgment. That is God’s procedure.
“God does not rule by force, he rules by love.
“People have spoken. People spoke in 2013, but you can only help somebody who wants to be helped. If somebody doesn’t want to be helped, even God will not be able to help him, His hands will be tied in that regard.
“When in August 2013, news broke out online concerning him and his ministry, as somebody he was close to as an elder, I thought it was my responsibility to get across to him.
“His pastor in Ilorin, I told him, ‘Get through to your boss and I want to share a thing or two with him’.

“Eventually he succeeded, and he called me from Abuja. And I told him, ‘This news is all over the place and I want to hear from you and also give you some counsel if need be.’ And he said he would get in touch.
“I said, ‘Okay, I’m on my way to the US. While I’m there if I want to get through to you, how do I do it?’ I thought he would just say, ‘Sir, you can get through to me using my email.’ Then he said his fear that time was that he was being bugged.
“I am not saying this to impress anybody. I wasn’t part of those already making comments on the issue. I just wanted to see how I could be useful in terms of helping him, but he didn’t show up.
“I waited from August 2013 to April 2014. When he didn’t show up, and he was coming to town, having meetings, I was seeing his billboards in town. Well, my wife and I said to ourselves we’ve done our bit.
“It was then I wrote him a letter and I said, ‘Consider that we no longer have anything to do with you and your ministry.’ I didn’t post it; it was hand-delivered by his own pastor.”
Oset said he knew Fatoyinbo got his letter but the letter had yet to be replied to years after.
According to him, the letter ended their relationship.
Fatoyinbo is currently battling to erase his name from allegations of rape against him by Busola, wife of musician Timi Dakolo.
Busola had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her on September 23 and 26, 2002 – a claim the COZA pastor vehemently denies.

target=_blank>Bizarre Confession: Our Target Was To Kill 20 People, Says Benue Kidnap Kingpin

Leader of a kidnap gang in Benue State, Iorwuese Kpila, 30, has said that he and his colleagues were given a target by one ‘queen spirit’ to kill 20 people and take the victims’ blood for ritual purposes.
Iorwuese made the confession on Friday while being paraded at the Benue State Police Command headquarters in Makurdi, the capital, alongside six members of his gang and five others arrested for child trafficking, armed robbery and other crimes.
The 30-year-old said that he wanted to be powerful and influential in his community even beyond Benue State that was why he engaged in criminal activities.
He said, “I was born in 1989 and I’m married with four children and four wives but so far, only one wife is staying with me and she is not aware that I’m into this.
“My father was a native doctor and he worked with so many spirits. When we kidnap people, we kill them and dispossess them of their valuables.
“We give them concoction that make them carry out whatever task we ask them before killing them.
“So far, we have kidnapped 16 persons, robbed them of their vehicles, motorcycles and other belongings, killed the victims, buried the corpses and planted cassava on the graves.
“The ‘queen spirit’ directed us to do so and after meeting the target of 20, we would acquire whatever we want in life.
“It is the ‘queen spirit’ that consumed the blood of our victims.”

E2%80%99s-education-system target=_blank>Tunde Bakare Urges Government To Overhaul Nigeria’s Education System

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly has urged the Nigerian Government to completely overhaul the education system in the country to produce quality graduates.
Bakare made the call on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeriaat the ongoing Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Annual Goalkeepers meetings in New York, United States.
According to him, the current system has huge implications on the economic development and life outcomes of young people.
He said education should be a priority of every government in order to address such challenges and reverse the ugly trend.
Bakare said, “In the past when you are coming out from the university, there are regular jobs, car loan and other facilities that will keep you in the country.
“Right now, because of the lack of jobs, job creation has become a major issue. Our young people are now taking to crime and are benefiting from proceeds of crime and kidnapping.
“But with the right policy in place, we can inject new ideas that will create jobs for our people.
“I trust God that the right leadership will come. I call them a new breed without greed that will consider others and begin to create opportunities for us within our countries.
“About 50 per cent of our youth are not employed and 25 per cent of them are not employable.
“So, there is something fundamentally wrong with our education system that is producing semi-illiterates.”

E2%80%99s-kidneys target=_blank>Adamawa Doctor Banned From Practicing Again For Cutting Off Patient’s Kidneys

A medical doctor based in Adamawa State, Yakubu Koji, has had his name struck out of the register of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for cutting the kidneys of a patient named Isa Hamma, who is now late, according to a report by PUNCH.
A tribunal set up by the council in Abuja on Friday found the doctor guilty of the 12 charges preferred against him.
Chairman of the tribunal, Prof Abba Hassan, said that Koji was guilty of engaging in malpractice when he failed to use his considered judgment and sense of honour by acceding to the demand of his patient.
He added, “The respondent exhibited incompetence in the assessment of Hamma.
“He failed to correctly diagnose the illness of Hamma and advise him. He undertook a surgical operation on the patient and removed an organ he could not identify.
“The respondent failed to refer Hamma in good time when such was necessary.
“He failed to do all that he reasonably ought to have done under the circumstances in the treatment of the patient.
“The respondent violated laws 29.4d, 29.4a, 29.4g, 29.4h, 29.4i, 31, 33, 33.1, 33.0 and 43.3 of the Code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria in 2008 Edition.
“The name of Dr Koji is hereby struck out of the register of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.”
Another doctor, Stephen Alayemola was suspended for six months after being found guilty of collecting a huge fee from one Mrs Oyenike Adebajo under the guise that he would carry out assisted reproductive therapy/In-Vitro-Fertilisation when indeed he was not an expert in fertility issue.
The tribunal said that he was also guilty of a fee-splitting arrangement for the purpose of referring the patient to other practitioners.
The tribunal said it was convinced with the weight of evidence against Alayemola that he was guilty of five out of six counts against him.

You Can Accuse Osinbajo Of Anything But Corruption By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo

You can accuse Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, of being “down-to-earth” considering his pint-size. You can also accuse him of intellectual exuberance but you cannot tack corruption to him. It will not stick.
Over the years, the maelstrom of anger against Osinbajo has widened. The reason for this, perhaps, is the perception by some Nigerians that he is not standing up enough for his own – the Christian fold and the south – when it matters. Another reason is the amplification of this perception by some members of the opposition, who deploy propaganda to “divisive finale”.
Osinbajo’s faith and calling – as a pastor – are sometimes juxtaposed with allegations of intellectual dishonesty, pretence and of enshrouding the wrongs in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
As matter of fact, the Vice President often appears to be singled out for remonstrance for the lapses and controversial policies of the administration.
For example, in June, Osinbajo was reported to have told Nigerians in New York that Nigeria had about 112.7million people living in extreme poverty as of 2010 – this was in response to reports of the country becoming the world poverty capital under Buhari.
One of those, who drew blood from Osinbajo on account of this was Reno Omokri. The soi-disant “Buhari tormentor” vocalised the typical perception. He said the Vice President lies as much as the devil.
He said, “You see that no matter how far and fast Osinbajo’s regular falsehood travels, it will always be overtaken by truth.
“I will like to say again that Mr Osinbajo has shown himself to be a man of very base character, who lies as much as the devil that he preaches against and whose behaviour has undermined the faith of genuine believers.”
Really, social media has made it facile to sculpt perceptions. All it takes is for a stentorian voice, with a strong capacity for babble, to make pronouncements on an issue or an individual and the mob, which operates without the “encephalon”, go to town and bleat.
It is understandable that there are high expectations of Osinbajo being a man of the robe. But the tendency to diminish him for standing in support of the administration he serves is an act of sanctimony.
I think, by being a strong support to Buhari, Osinbajo is giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar.
Also, before the RUGA programme was pigeonholed, Osinbajo took much of the obloquy for the controversial initiative even though he had nothing to do with it; he was already working on the National Livestock Transformation Plan with the governors of the 36 states.
The Vice President, eventually, had to issue a statement dissociating himself from RUGA to get the hounds off.
In addition, there is the perception that he is not doing enough or not exerting enough pressure on the administration to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, a Christian girl in Boko Haram captivity.
In fact, this was the core of one of Omokri’s jabs at Osinbajo. As I said, it is understandable, considering Osinbajo’s religious background. But perceptions are not always true.
However, these accusations can be palliated because they are governed by perceptions. But the allegation of financial impropriety and fraud against Osinbajo by some persons border on his personal integrity. They are weighty and damaging.
It is characteristic of our brand of politics, for political actors to casually tag other actors as corrupt even when there is no evidence. Nigeria’s politics is where good and competent men and women get into and become sectioned as part of the vacuous, predatory corrupt class.
The reason most Nigerians with the aptitude for leadership do not go into politics is for fear of the “tag”.
Even the principled Oby Ezekwesili was not spared of scandals after bravely stepping into the molten magna that is Nigeria’s politics. Allegations of diverting N153m campaign funds rippled when she decided to back out of the 2019 presidential contest.
One thing is certain; the hawks are hovering over Osinbajo in Aso Rock. He himself admitted that there are saboteurs working against the government. These recent allegations may be a furtherance of the artifice of those hawks.
