In commemoration of the World Rabies Day, Paws Connect, a non-governmental organisation has urged dog owners to train their dogs with humans and other dogs.
Mr. Victor Mowah, member of the group made the call at  `Dog Awareness Walk’ as part of activities to commemorate World Rabies Day (WRD) on Saturday in Abuja.
Mowah, the convener of the walk, said that such socialisation would prevent dogs from getting scared when they come in contact with humans and other dogs.

Four policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command had been arrested over alleged extortion of N5, 000 from a woman.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the RRS said through its Twitter handle that the men were arrested on Friday in Ajah area of the state.
“Our officers at Ajah extorted N5, 000 from a lady; our Ops officers went in search, arrested and detained them at Alausa Headquarters of the squad.

Deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege has called on pharmacists in the country to intensify efforts on research for the development of local drugs to fight diabetes.
He also adviced them to produce local drugs for other forms of endocrine and metabolic disorders.
Yomi Odunuga, his Adviser on Media in a statement in Abuja said Omo-Agege made the call when he spoke at the 2019 Annual Conference of the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday described the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi as an epitome of culture and tradition. He added that the monarch is committed to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Yoruba nation and projecting the race to the global community.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2019 Ologo Festival Celebration, President Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola said culture is a means of identity for a race, ethnic or community, saying the Yoruba is unique because of its attachment to culture.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the alleged detention and torture of about 400 men and boys at an Islamic school in Kaduna state. 
 
 
 President Buhari has also commended the Police for the discovery of the building where the boys were detained and the Muslim authorities for dismissing the notion of the embarrassing and horrifying spectacle as Islamic School.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Saturday said, ‘‘In commending the police for their discovery of this horrific hub and arrest of suspected operators of the unedifying, so-called “reform institution,” the administration of President Buhari categorically condemns rights abuses whether of adults or of children.

Obasanjo hails Ramaphosa over plans to revive bilateral commission

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, hailed  President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa over his plans to resuscitate the bilateral commission between his country and other African countries including Nigeria. Obasanjo said he got the hint from South African president when he paid a courtesy visit to him in South Africa.
 
He further said that he was aware of a planned meeting between Ramaphosa and Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari on the development, urging them to manage the opportunity properly so as to stop xenophobic attacks among other challenges.
