Nigeria Consul-General in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, says 320 Nigerians have been registered to be evacuated from South Africa on Tuesday, September 17.
Adama disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja while giving an update on plans to evacuate the second batch of Nigerians.
The consul-general, who said that the flight would be leaving South Africa around 6 p.m on Tuesday, added that the number of Nigerians willing to come back home following the attacks had increased to over 1000.

The Kwara State Government has said that personalising constituency project was responsible for Kwara public schools’ rejection of instructional materials donated by the former President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki.
A statement from the Press Secretary of Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Yakub Aliagan on Monday, said the ministry was not aware of the donation initially.
”The State Government wasn’t aware of the distribution of these instructional materials in the first instance.

Ms Maria Espinosa, the President of the 73rd UN General Assembly, on Monday handed over to Nigeria’s Muhammad-Bande, who will lead the 74th session of the assembly in the next one year.
The ceremony, held inside the General Assembly Hall of the UN headquarters in New York, marked the end of the 73rd session .
The 74th session will formally begin on Tuesday with the inauguration of Muhammad-Bande, who is the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN.

Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Executive Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has urged state governments to ensure proper reintegration of returnees from South Africa into the society.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal at a World News Conference in Abuja on Monday.
She said that the second batch of 319 returnees would be leaving South Africa for Nigeria on Tuesday.
Dabiri-Erewa said that the number of returnees would depend on those who registered to return, adding that the process would be continuous.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has announced his plan to appoint 800 aides, in addition to the 4,000 appointments already made by his administration.
Umahi said this on Monday in Abakaliki when he met with members of the State Executive Council (EXCO), state House of Assembly, Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen and all the new appointees, among other stakeholders.
The governor said that, in spite of an initial 185 Executive Assistants (EAs), Senior Technical Assistants (STAs) and Technical Assistants (TAs), he made an additional 200 similar appointments on Monday.

Putin proposes Russian missile defence for Saudi after oil attack

The tensions in the Middle East have escalated following drone attacks on two major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia. While the United States has said there is evidence Iran is linked to the attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, has recommended Russian missile defence for purchase by Saudi Arabia.
Putin said Russia is ready to help Saudi Arabia following attacks on the Saudi oil industry if needed after talks with leaders of Turkey and Iran in Ankara, and proposed Russian weapons for purchase.
