Prof Olubunmi Olapade-Olaopa, the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, says the 71-year-old medical college has clinched the fourth position in Africa in the 2019 World University Ranking.

Olapade-Olaopa, who disclosed this on Thursday in Ibadan while speaking with newsmen at the end of the Innovative Research Fair of the college, said the institution is also the first in sub-Saharan Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three-day fair had the tagline: “Innovation for Development.”
According to the provost, the premier Nigerian college fell behind Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa as well as Cairo and Mansoura Universities in Egypt.

Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said Thursday that Mexico’s government doesn’t agree with an “astonishing” US Supreme Court order that would block migrants from countries other than Mexico and Canada from applying for asylum at US borders.
Speaking at President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily news conference, Ebrard said that Mexico has a different policy when it comes to asylum seekers and would never implement such a rule.
“Our policy of refuge, of asylum, is a tradition in Mexico,” he said.

Ebipam Johnny, the National Coordinator of Ijaws in Oil and Gas noted while speaking after their bi-annual appraisals of oil and gas operations in the Niger Delta that the Ijaw ethnic suffered most during the militancy era.
The programme was held at Warri, in Delta state.
“We were the higher chuck that suffered more during militancy era”, Johnny said.
Also in his statement, Johnny said the Ijaws in Oil and Gas wants the appointment of a credible Ijaw son, High Chief Dennis Otuaro with a proven track record to function in the capacity of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Amnesty.
