target=_blank>Angry Youths Force Shut Down Of Shoprite In Akure
A Shoprite outlet in Akure, Ondo State, has been forced to shut down over fears of a possible attack by angry youths in the city.
Scores of youths had besieged the popular mall to register their anger over attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.
The angry youths chanted solidarity songs for several hours and tried to force their way into the facility but were prevented by security personnel at the shopping complex.
During a visit to the mall on Tuesday evening by SaharaReporters correspondent, policemen could be seen parading the area.
One of the aggrieved protesters, Paul Oluwatobi, said he decided to take part in the demonstration due to disturbing footages on the Internet showing how Nigerians were being maimed and their investments destroyed by South Africans.
He said, “We have been watching lots of disturbing videos on the social media showing how Nigerians are being killed in South Africa.
“So, we came to the mall to register our displeasure.
“It is wickedness and inhuman to be killing Nigerians and Africans in South Africa.”

target=_blank>Xenophobia: Attacks Contradict Your Ideals, APC Tells South Africa’s Ruling Party, ANC
The All Progressives Congress has strongly condemned ongoing attacks against Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.
The APC, while calling on South Africa’s Ruling Party to Wade into the crisis, said that the latest development rubbishes the ideals the ANC stands for.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC said Nigeria deserved better from South Africa.
The statement reads, “As a party, we are deeply saddened by these unwarranted attacks.
“Nigeria deserves better from South Africa. It is too early for South Africans to forget their country’s history.
“Many of the key players in the struggle against apartheid are still alive and active in the country’s national affairs.
“We, therefore, cannot understand why there seems to be a conspiracy of silence on their part.
“The barbaric attack on citizens of other countries points to a failure of leadership.
“South African leaders cannot exonerate themselves from this cowardly act.
“We call on the South African ruling party, the African National Congress, to urgently step in. This is completely at variance with what ANC stands for.
“The ANC government can no longer pretend about this obvious contradiction.”

E2%80%99ibom target=_blank>EFCC Arrests 60 Internet Fraudsters, Convicts 37 In A’Ibom
The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it had arrested over 60 suspected Internet fraudsters and secured 37 convictions since 2017 in the state.
Zonal Head of the commission, Mr Garba Dugum, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Uyo, the capital, on Tuesday.
Dugum, who was represented by the Deputy Zonal Head, Alex Ebbah, said EFCC was collaborating with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation in the fight against cyber crime.
He said, “In furtherance to the acting Chairman’s directive to all zones, we have independently launched intensive investigative actions against this infamous “Yahoo Boys” culmination in various strategic raids and onslaught on their hideouts.
“Our efforts in this regards have recorded tremendous success which resulted in over 60 arrests, 37 convictions and recovery of exotic cars and properties suspected to have been acquired through the proceeds of the crimes.”

Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has described as unacceptable ongoing attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
In a statement through his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo comdemned the development, adding that it does not represent the ideals of iconic leaders like Nelson Mandela.
He said, “It is very sad and very unfortunate that the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians living in South Africa are once again being destroyed with such wantonness and with such carelessness and recklessness.
“It is unfortunate because Nigeria and Nigerians invested a great deal in the pulling down of apartheid.
“Besides, these acts of bigotry are entirely contrary to the very ideals that all the great South African leaders, including the present president fought for, and for which many gave their lives.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has already spoken about this; and obviously we are very concerned and certainly intend to take this up with the authorities in South Africa in order to ensure that this sort of thing does not repeat itself.”

Super Falcons moved to the third round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics football qualifiers after beating Algeria 1-0 in Lagos on Tuesday to qualify 3-0 on aggregate.
The Nigerian ladies had defeated the North Africans 2-0 in the first leg in Algiers before completing the job in Lagos.

The Lagos State chapter of the African Action Congress has called on the civil society, labour unions and activists in South Africa to rise and rally against xenophobic attacks in the country.
The follows the recent attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals by South African citizens.
Condemning the attack, Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, Acting Chairman of the Lagos AAC, said Nigerians are angry at what is happening to their compatriots in South Africa.
He also accused politicians and the elites in Nigeria for causing poverty and unemployment in the country.
Ajayi said, “The Lagos AAC believes that South African civil society, labour and radical activists need to rise and rally against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African immigrants.
“We also call on Nigerians here to face our rulers and join the #RevolutionNow to put an end to the causes of poverty and unemployment that is making Nigerians to run out to live outside the country.
“We know that both the business and ruling class in Nigeria and South Africa are united in oppressing the masses while blaming the results on the same working people that are struggling to survive.”

target=_blank>Buhari Urges Police, Army, Others To End Insecurity In Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security agencies in the country to put an end to all security challenges facing the country.
The President said that government would no longer tolerate the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria.
A statement by Director Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, gave the charge on Tuesday in Katsina during a visit of the minister, Rauf Aregbesola.
According to Buhari, the wanton destruction of lives and properties in Katsina and the entire country through banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, rape, insurgency, and other forms of criminalities was no longer acceptable.
He reiterated his resolve to ensure the safety of lives and property through strengthening the internal security architecture of the Ministry of Interior.
He assured the people of Katsina and the entire North West Zone of government’s determination to end the spate of insecurity and all criminalities in the country.
He said, “The Federal Government reposes full confidence in security agencies to nip all these menace in the bud before it escalates.”

target=_blank>Death Toll In Niger Tanker Explosion Rises To Six
Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Inga, has disclosed that three more victims of last Friday’s petrol tanker explosion along the Abuja-Kaduna highway have died.
According to Inga, one of the injured victims died on the way to Kano where they were being transferred for further treatment, adding that the other two died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
He said that all 14 victims were from Kano, adding that the injured persons were transferred to Kano based on their requests.
He said, “We have lost another three people, one on transit to Kano, another one in Kaduna, while one died receiving treatment.
“With the three additional deaths, the number of the dead persons now comes to six.
“Driver of the tanker ran away and is not yet found, while the truck has been taken to NNPC depot in Suleja for tracking, so as to identify the owner.”

President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has condemned xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants, insisting that there is no justification for such act.
Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, Ramaphosa said that, “Our security forces are on high alert.
“Whilst in no way, can we take away the sense of deep loss and unbearable pain you experience, as a country, we commit ourselves to continue to work tirelessly to building the kind of South Africa where indeed women and children will be safe.
“I condemn the violence that has been spreading around a number of our provinces in the strongest terms.
“I’m convening the ministers in the security cluster today to make sure that we keep a close eye on these acts of wanton violence and find ways of stopping them.
“The people of our country want to live in harmony; whatever concerns or grievances we may have, we need to handle them in a democratic way.
“There can be no justification for any South African to attack people from other countries.
“We express our deep pain, support, solidarity and love to the families, friends and loved ones of all those who have lost their lives in the last month.”

Nigeria, Indonesia, Slip Out Of Top Five Gas Exporters
Nigeria and Indonesia have in recent years lost their top five liquefied natural gas exporting status, according to a Reuters survey.
The data of LNG bearing tanks, reviewed that the United States has reduced the market share of these two countries and now holds 10 per cent of the gas market.
The report found that in the last two months, the order of the largest exporters has been Australia, Qatar, US, Canada and Malaysia.
Nigeria and Indonesia had previously vied between themselves to occupy one of the five slots.
According to the survey, the large volume of gas been pumped-out by the US is causing the price of the commodity to trend downward.
The report also said that 46 million tons per annum gas exporting plants in the US are already in operation or ramping up.
On the other hand, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd produces 22 mtpa of gas annually.
It is still sourcing funds to expand its production to 30 mtpa.
Nigeria is still harbouring plans of constructing an ambitious gas pipeline that terminates at Morocco, in order to keep European markets in sight.
