target=_blank>Nigerian Government Sends Relief Materials To Flood Victims In Mozambique

The Nigerian Air Force has said that it has completed the airlifting of relief materials to Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that this was to further assist victims of the massive flooding that affected some communities in the two countries in April.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
He said the airlift missions were conducted for the National Emergency Management Agency.
He said, “The airlift missions, which were conducted for the National Emergency Management Agency, conveyed critical relief materials such as drugs, medical supplies and treated mosquito nets donated by Nigeria to alleviate the sufferings of the flood victims.
“The airlift missions were executed in furtherance of the NAF’s constitutional roles of projecting air power beyond the shores of the country as well as providing military aid to civil authority.”
Speaking further, Daramola said the NAF aircrew and NEMA officials handed over the items to officials from the Nigeria High Commission in the two countries for onward delivery to their host governments.

target=_blank>IPOB Threat: Count Us Out Of Operation Python Dance, Say South East Governors

Governors of Nigeria’s South-East states have said that they know nothing about the Army’s Operation Python Dance in the region.
The military campaign, which was used to clampdown on the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra and eventually led to its proscription by the government, led to the deaths of many members of the group headed by Nnamdi Kanu.
As a result of the incident, IPOB vowed to attack all top ranking government officials including South-East politicians suspected to have supported the military exercise that stifled their activities in the region.
Speaking with journalist after a meeting of stakeholders from the South-East, Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, explained that he and his colleagues never invited the military to the region for Operation Python Dance.
He said, “South-East governors never invited the Army nor were South-East governors informed of any of their operations on Python Dance until the operations started in the states.
“South-East governors would like to write to Mr President to request for a meeting with him and all the security chiefs to douse tension in the region.”
Recall that members of IPOB had attacked former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremburg, Germany, on August 17 during an event to celebrate New Yam Festival.
The organisation went further to say that it would continue to attack politicians from the region suspected to be against its activities.
The threat by the group has since sent shivers down the spines of politicians from the region with many allegedly cancelling overseas trips for fear of being humiliated by IPOB members.

Leah Sharibu

TheCable

The Nigerian Government has said that it is working hard to secure the release of Leah Sharibu from Boko Haram captivity.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the government dismissed insinuations that Sharibu had been killed by the terrorist organisation.
According to Shehu, the government would not give up on securing the freedom of the schoolgirl from Dapchi, Yobe State, who was abducted alongside others when the insurgents invaded their community.
He stated, “Instead of giving up, the government is carrying forward processes that should hopefully yield her release by her captors.
“Lines of communications remain open with the kidnappers, ISWAP, to secure the release of Leah Sharibu.
“Contrary to false reports, she is alive – given assurances from our security agencies – and the government is committed to her safe return, as well as all other hostages to their families.”

Tribunal Dismisses Case Against Adamawa State Governor

The Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed a petition seeking to nullify the election of Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Action People’s Party and its governorship candidate, Bitrus Meda, had dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission, Fintiri and the PDP to the tribunal, challenging the outcome of the March 28 results on the ground of unlawful exclusion.
Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Adediran Adebara, dismissed the petition and slammed a legal cost of N1m against the petitioner.
Citing grounds for the dismissal, Justice Adebara said the petitioners failed to prove a case of unlawful exclusion beyond reasonable doubt and therefore struck out the petition.
The judge awarded N300,000 each in favour of first, second and third respondents, while the fourth respondent, INEC, got N100,000.
Counsel to the PDP, A.T Shehu, praised the judgment, saying, “We knew that the petition was frivolous and the tribunal just confirmed our position.”
On his part, counsel to the petitioners, Solomon Garba, said they had accepted the judgment.
According to Governor Fintiri, the ruling is “a confirmation of the mandate of the people of Adamawa State”.
