target=_blank>APC Counters Wadume, Says We Don’t Transact Business With Kidnappers

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed claims by kidnap Lord, Hamisu Wadume, that he got N13m from the party during the 2019 presidential elections.
Wadume had claimed that he got that amount from the APC ahead of the election but spent only N7m.
Reacting to this claim on Saturday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, asked Wadume to name his sponsors.
He said, “It is expected that the alleged kidnapper, having come face to face with justice, would throw whatever he could lay his hands on into the fray.
“In any case, our party did not have budget for thugs.
“Unlike the period when the ruling party dipped hands into the public treasury to fund political campaigns and elections, APC had to rely on its own resources.
“Even if we had all the money, we would never allocate money for kidnappers and murderers. That era ended with the Peoples Democratic Party.
“Perhaps, he can name whoever gave him money. Definitely, it was not APC.”

E2%80%98not-sale%E2%80%99-campaign target=_blank>Government Condemns Human Trafficking, Launches ‘Not For Sale’ Campaign

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that government has rolled out a campaigned named “Not for Sale” to tackle human trafficking in the country.
Buhari made the disclosure in an article published by the Washington Post in commemoration of this year’s International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
The article quoted Buhari as saying that the “Not for Sale” campaign was targeted at helping those vulnerable to trafficking see the truth.
He said, “One distinction from then and now is important: the costs. From records, adjusted for today’s prices, the cost of a human-being-as-property was valued on average at $40,000.
“Today, it is just $90, sometimes even lower. We must remember that slavery is not simply a campaign of hatred; it is the pursuit of profit.
“One way to extinguish it in its current forms, therefore, is to make it economically unfeasible.
“This means making sure that any anti-slavery laws have a bite, come with strong penalties and are enforced.
“The public must be shown how to see what is hidden in plain sight, particularly signs of suspicious behaviour.
“This might seem broad. But vagueness should not give rise to a reluctance to report anything that could be smuggling or forced servitude.
“If something doesn’t look right, report it, for you could be securing another human’s freedom.”

Government, Labour Disagree On Minimum Wage

Talks between the Nigerian Government and organised labour over the implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage collapsed on Friday in Abuja, the country’s capital, according to a report by PUNCH.
The proposal from the government is 10 per cent salary increase for workers on grade level 07 to 14 and 5.5 per cent for workers on grade level 15 to 17.
However, labour is demanding 29 per cent for workers on grade level 07 to 14 and 24 per cent for those on grade level 15 to 17.
A source said, “The two sides resolved at the last meeting that the position of labour and that of the representatives of the government be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari.
“But when they met again on Friday, government representatives told the meeting that they had a challenge which was very technical.
“They said the technical committee must first report the decisions (positions of the two parties) to the plenary, that is the main negotiating committee, before taking it to their principal. To us, this was in order.
“The main committee assigned the job to the technical committee so it is in order that the report be taken to the main committee. We agreed that the report should be sent to the plenary which also met same day.
“After that it was agreed that the report be sent to President Buhari with the hope that a realistic government position will come up. T
“Those at the committee said their mandate did not go beyond taking the report and presenting it to their principal.”
