German Chancellor Angela Merkel casts her vote

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on Sunday said that the European Union was ready for whatever out come the exit of Britain from the union would bring.
British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is seeking to persuade European Union leaders to reopen Brexit talks or face the prospect of its second-largest member leaving abruptly on October 31 with no deal in place to mitigate the economic shock, according to a report by Reuters.
Merkel said, “We are prepared for any outcome, we can say that, even if we do not get an agreement.
“But at all events, I will make an effort to find solutions – up until the last day of negotiations.
“I think it’s always better to leave with an agreement than without one.
“But if that’s not possible, we’ll be prepared for the alternative as well.’’

target=_blank>#RevolutionNow: Organisers To Gather Masses, Civil Societies In Lagos On Monday

The Coalition for Revolution has announced that it would gather Nigerians and activists for a mass march in Lagos on Monday in defiance to the Nigerian authorities.
The event will feature members from human rights organisations such as Amnesty International, SERAP, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Enough Is Enough, National Association of Nigerian Students among others.
The Nigerian Government on August 3, 2019, arrested co-convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for planning anti-government protests nationwide.
The peaceful protests, which held August 5, 2019 nationwide, witnessed armed repression from the government leading to the detention of many participants.
In a statement on Sunday, CORE said, “In view of the stepping-up of government repression within the past days following the peaceful #RevolutionNow protest, the Coalition for Revolution is organising a working consultative assembly of activists and organisations against the draconian development and the detention of scores of activists in the Department of State Services cells.
“This is in continuation of our popular struggle. Consultation and mass education are necessary in the struggle for change.”

E2%80%99re-operating-above-capacity-%E2%80%93nigerian-consulate target=_blank>Passport: We’re Operating Above Capacity –Nigerian Consulate

The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, has said the consulate is operating above capacity especially in passport service delivery.
Okoyen told the News Agency of Nigeria that although the situation was an indication of growing public confidence in the office, it had been a major challenge.
He explained that the staff and facilities of the consulate were overstretched by the deluge of applications, many by Nigerians from other consular jurisdictions.
He said, “Nigeria has three consulates in the United States: one in New York, one in Atlanta and the third at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington.
“The New York consulate has 20 states under its jurisdiction; Atlanta serves at least 15 and Washington has no fewer than 15 states under it.
“We handle more states, and yet most applicants in other jurisdictions prefer coming to New York, probably because of our services.
“But it comes with huge challenges, especially the undue pressure it puts on our staff and facilities.”
Complaints about alleged slow service delivery, systems breakdown, shortage of passport booklets and negative staff attitude are common among applicants at the consulate.
Okoyen added, “Passports are supposed to be renewed six months before expiration, but most applicants come here within a few days to their dates of travel.
“We work here according to plans, and since we cannot reject them, we have to go out of our way to accommodate them.
“This is what results in the shortage of materials and systems breakdown experienced here sometimes.
“Yet, most applicants refuse to understand and cooperate with us, and they feel they can just vent their anger any time.”
