target=_blank>There’ll Be Threat To Peace Of Nigeria If Northerner Becomes President In 2023 -Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress to respect zoning and cede the position of the country’s topmost office to the South-West in 2023.
Sani posited that there would be a threat to national peace and security if a northerner takes over from Buhari.
He made the statement while speaking with journalists in Kaduna on Monday.
He said, “It will be a serious threat to the future and peace of the country if the Northern region continues to dominate the leadership of the nation because of her numerical strength.
“The President should caution those from the North eyeing that position.
“Power needs to rotate to other regions; the South-West worked tirelessly to remove PDP from office and helped to bring Nigeria to where it is today and deserves support from the North come 2023.
“If federal character is applied on appointments and other areas, it should also be applicable in the political space.
“Therefore, the North should be fair and magnanimous to all and give all regions a sense of belonging.”

target=_blank>Government Accuses Labour Unions Of Delaying Implementation Of New Minimum Wage

Government has attributed the delay in the implementation of the “Consequential Adjustment” of the N30, 000 new minimum wage to the unrealistic demands of labour unions.
Chairman, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Chief Richard Egbule, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.
Egbule explained that the current demand of the labour unions would raise the total wage bill too high and that was why government could not accept their proposed salary adjustments.
He said, “Labour is asking for consequential adjustment and government in its wisdom had made budgetary provision for an adjustment of N10,000 across the board for those already earning above N30,000 per month.
“However, the unions have refused this offer, saying that because the increase in minimum wage from 18,000 to N30, 000 was 66 per cent, therefore they want 66 percent increment across the board.
“We told them that the minimum wage was not raised from N18, 000 to N30, 000 through percentage increase but as a result of consideration of economic factors including ability to pay.
“However, we said that if they want consequential adjustments in percentage terms, we will use a percentage that when applied will not exceed what has been provided for in the budget.
“Labour is currently stretching out and eating up the time that people could have used in benefiting from the adjustment because the new minimum wage was implemented since April.
“My advice is for labour to accept the terms for now and prepare to fight for the harmonisation of salaries that is coming up.”

Folasade Ogunkuade, a victim of human trafficking, has narrated how she was misled into travelling abroad to seek greener pastures but ended up as a s** slave.
Ogunkuade, a petty trader, said she had planned to travel overseas for the purpose of taking adequate care of her family before everything went sour for her.
She spoke at the office of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Akure, Ondo State, after she was rescued.
The 36-year-old woman and mother of three explained how she was trafficked and sold off as slave despite paying huge sum of money to travel overseas to find a good job.
She disclosed that one Mr Modupe Olufowoso, disguising as a traveling agent, cajoled her to travel to Oman but ended up been abused by those claiming to be her ‘buyers’.
She said, “It was the man (Olufowoso) who helped me out and I travelled to Oman after paying him the money he asked from me.
“When he came to me, he said if I travelled to Oman, that I would make it and be able to take care of my children.
“When I got there, it was a different story entirely. I was abused and harassed by the white men who forced me to wash animal faeces and do terrible odd jobs.
“They were paying me N60,000 a monthly when converted to our currency in Nigeria.
“I worked 24 hours doing very strenuous jobs while also being sexually harassed and enslaved.
“Many Nigerian ladies were still trapped and being used as s** slaves in the Oman.”
Comptroller of the NIS in the state, Aboyade Yebovi, explained how the victim was rescued and brought back to Akure.
Yebovi noted that the victim led operatives of the agency to arrest (Olufowoso after narrating her ordeal in the Asian country.
She disclosed that Olufowoso was in the business of defrauding young ladies and trafficking them outside the he country for prostitution.
According to Yebovi, all the victims especially females, who fell to Olufowoso’s criminal act, ended up as slaves and prostitutes.
She said, “We caught him (Olufowoso) when one of his victims, Folashade Ogunkuade, returned to the country.
“She had travel to Oman where she was used as a s** slave and prostitute.”
Confessing to the crime, Olufowoso said that his victims were always tracked on the social media.
He also disclosed that he had been in the business of trafficking young girls and women for many years.
He said, “I have helped over 15 people to travel abroad and I normally collect over N150, 000 each from my client before they depart Nigeria.
“I advertise my services on social media and that is where I always get my clients.
“Ogunkuade is one of my customers and I helped her to travel to Oman but I was surprised when she returned to Nigeria and said she was enslaved and sexually harassed.”
According to findings by Sahara Reporters, Olufowoso had been on the watchlist of security agencies in the state where trafficking of persons especially young ladies abroad for prostitution is widespread.

target=_blank>Kirchinga: Adamawa Town In The Shadows Of Boko Haram

For the people of Kirchinga in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, this year’s Eid-El-Kabir brought no special kind of feeling despite the excitement and fanfare that ushered in the annual Muslim feast in other parts of Nigeria. The people of this sleepy town opted for a quiet festivities for valid reasons. Four kilometres away from them is Yafa, a community under Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State where deadly terrorist group – Boko Haram – has reigned supreme for many years. The violent Islamist sect often carries out deadly raids in villages around the region, unleashing horror and agony on individuals and households in the process.
As a result of this, many people marked this year’s Eid-El-Kabir in Kirchinga with utmost alertness, fearing the pains that could be visited on them should Boko Haram insurgents decide to visit their community.
A resident of the town, who spoke with Sahara Reporterson Monday but asked not to be named, said that the fear of Boko Haram in Kirchinga has made life hellish for many locals in the area. According to the source, the presence of the wife of one of the insurgents, who escaped from the dreaded Sambisa Forest ruled by the violent sect to live a normal life with her children, has further spread fear in the community.
“The whole community is in fear especially because of the presence of the wife and children of one of Boko Haram’s leaders who escaped from Sambisa Forest.
“But we don’t believe she’s real, there are concerns that they returned to provide intelligence for the terrorists.
“One of her children who is 24 years old recently joined our local vigilante group and since then there have been several attacks in this area.
“We are afraid that their presence could lead to an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in the not too distant future. Everybody is in fear.
“Yafa Village across River Yadzaram was sacked a fortnight ago, and a retired military officer was killed during the raid.
“To make things worse, you dare not say anything against Boko Haram because they’ll come calling; how do they know?
“Certainly they have their informants amongst us,” the resident said.
Following several attacks on Kirchinga in the past by the terrorist group, the town has become an old shadow of itself with disgruntled faces of women whose husbands were killed by the insurgents greeting you wherever you turn to in this agrarian community.
Sadly, there’s no presence of either the police or military within eight kilometres radius of Kirchinga, according to findings by Sahara Reporters. The town continues to live in the menacing shadow of one of the world’s most ruthless killer gangs – Boko Haram.
