The Federal Government has said it will make a scapegoat out of hip hop star, Augustine Kelechi popularly known as Tekno, for promoting nudity in public space.
The announcement follows scenes of four nude women dancing in a moving van on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge in Lagos during a video shoot by the musician.
The artiste, in the four-minute video, was seen throwing money perceived to be dollars at the nude women.
The government expressed disappointment that despite ongoing investigations into the anomaly, Tekno went ahead to release the offensive video.?
A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe, said Tekno would be used as a scapegoat “to teach others a serious lesson”.
He said, “We commend the police for arresting Tekno for the shameful misconduct.

“The same person who was granted bail on health ground went ahead to release the controversial video.
“We are now warning him to desist from this shameful conduct which is not part of our culture.
“No single person is bigger than Nigeria; whether he likes it or not, we are going to use him as scapegoat to send a strong signal that this government does not tolerate nonsense and immorality.”
Section 136 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, states that any person, who commits any act of gross indecency with another person in public, commits an offence and is liable upon conviction to three years imprisonment.
The Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency has since suspended the advertising agency whose display truck was used in shooting the video.

target=_blank>South Africa Expresses Concern Over Threat By NANS

The Government of South Africa has expressed concern over the call by the National Association of Nigerian Students for the expulsion of South Africans and their investments in Nigeria.
The country made its feelings known in a statement by Counsellor in-charge of Political Affairs at the South African High Commission, Abuja, Anna-Maria Jojozi, on Sunday.
Jojozi said, “I wish to express my department’s concern regarding statements said to emanate from student organisation in Nigeria, calling for expulsion of South Africans and protests at South African owned businesses.
“The protests are said to be in response to alleged killings of Nigerians by South Africans; as you are aware, these allegations are devoid of truth, reckless and unwarranted.

“We find these statements most unfortunate as they do not reflect the strong relations that exist between the people and Government of South Africa and Nigeria.
“The two countries enjoy strong bilateral relations, which were forged over many years during our struggle for liberation in South Africa; also, in this democratic era supported by the people and Government of Nigeria.”

target=_blank>HURIWA Slams Zamfara Governor For Negotiating With Bandits

Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria, a pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy group, has slammed Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State for refusing to prosecute bandits arrested in the state.
The group also condemned the governor for choosing to negotiate and dialogue with armed bandits, saying the act is “criminal, immoral and absolutely unconstitutional”.
Armed bandits in Zamfara have been responsible for the killing of about 500 people in the state while also displacing thousands.
The Northern Governors Forum recently announced that it is about tabling a proposal for a regional-wide amnesty programme to be floated for the benefit of armed bandits and kidnappers.
HURIWA in a statement on Sunday said that the move would only strengthen criminal gangs in the region.
The statement read, “Should they proceed with this illegal act, then the blood of the innocent citizens wasted by armed bandits and kidnappers will be on their heads.
“To read that Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara said he will pardon 100 Fulani people imprisoned over banditry is one of the worst cases of abuse of power and abuse of office.
“A society that institutionalises impunity and lawlessness is doomed.
“This is absurd and repugnant to good conscience.”
HURIWA also posited that the policy of dialoguing with armed bandits and criminals, who should face the full weight of the law, is a direct sabotage of the Nigerian constitution.
The group added, “Those elected as governors must either allow the relevant statutory agencies to enforce the laws and rid the society of criminals and criminality.
“We condemn this evil policy of the Northern governors, who through this policy of handshake with blood thirsty criminals, are dancing on the graves of victims of years of armed banditry and kidnapping.”

target=_blank>Six Days After Arrest, DSS Yet To Charge Journalist To Court

The Department of Security Services has failed to arraign Mr. Ibrahim Dan-Halilu, former Politics Editor of DailyTrust newspaper, six days after he was arrested for supporting #RevolutionNow protest.
Dan-Haliliu was picked up in his room for writing a post on his Facebook timeline, endorsing the protest.
Dan-Halilu was a staunch supporter of President Muhammadu before the 2015 elections.
The erstwhile Daily Trust Editor has been in the custody of the DSS since his arrest.
Section 35 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (amended) states that anyone arrested upon reasonable suspicion of having committed a criminal offence, or to such extent as may be reasonably necessary to prevent his committing a criminal offence, must be taken to a competent court within a radius of 40 kilometres under a period of one day.
It was gathered that the DSS operatives had questioned Dan-Halilu on whether he has any acquaintance or professional relationship with Mr Omoyele Sowore, activist and convener of #RevolutionNow.
Meanwhile, Dan-Halilu’s lawyers are working to ensure his release.

target=_blank>Suspended Council Chairmen In Ogun Take State Government To Court

Some suspended local government chairmen and heads of local council development areas in Ogun State have dragged the state government and House of Assembly to court over their wrongful suspension.
Also joined in the suit as co-defendant is the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun.
The Ogun State House of Assembly had on May 3, 2019 issued a resolution suspending all political functionaries at the local government areas and local council development areas.
Acting on the resolution, the state government froze all lgs and lcdas accounts in Ogun.
Lawyer to the suspended officials, Monday Ubani, stated that having unsuscessfully explored several avenues to make Ogun State Goverment and House Assembly to reverse their suspension, the only option left for them is to approach the court.
In the suit which has now been filed before the Federal  High Court, Ogun State, the suspended chairmen are asking the court to declare that the action of the state House of Assembly to suspend them was unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.
They are also demanding for the sum of N5m as damages for the infringement on their fundamental rights.
They also want the court to compel the state government to pay all their entitlements for the past 33 months.
No date has been fixed for hearing of the suit.
