target=_blank>2019 AFCON: Algeria Defeat Nigeria, To Face Senegal In Final

AS English

Nigerian Super Eagles lost to the  Algerian side at the Cairo International Stadium, Egypt on Sunday.
The Super Eagles had defeated Cote D’Ivoire 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the ongoing African Cup Of Nations, AFCON, to reach the semifinals where they lost to the Algerian side.
An own goal from Super Eagles, Troost-Ekong, the defender who scored the last-minute winner for his team in the quarter-finals, gave the lead to Algeria at half time.
However, deep into the second half, a handball appeal by Super Eagles was reviewed by Video Assistant Referee, VAR after which the referee awarded a penalty to Nigeria.
The penalty was played by Odion Ighalo who calmly took the shot past the Algerian Keeper M’Bolhi.
The cookie finally crumbled for Nigeria when the referee blew for a free-kick at the last minute which was converted by Mahrez who struck home the goal.
Meanwhile, Senegal danced their way into the 2019 AFCON finals for the second time after beating Tunisia by an own goal late into extra time.
Although both sides had penalties opportunity they, however, both failed to hit the target and the game was forced to proceed to extra time where Tunisia defender Dylan Bronn’s own goal gave Senegal the ticket to the finals.

target=_blank>Bakare Explains Why Pastors Get Away With Fake Prophecies In Nigerian Churches

The Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, says many Nigerian pastors get away with fake prophecies because their members fail to challenge them when the prophecies don’t come true.
Bakare said this on Sunday during a church service at the Latter Rain Assembly in Lagos, televised on ChannelsTV.
He said materialism had been masquerading as prosperity in the churches, lamenting that materialism had eaten deep into the soul of the church.
He said, “People don’t know the difference between materialism and prosperity. Men become so materialistic that the size of their accounts and the number of their congregation give them a platform, whether God is with them or not, whether Satan is the one doing mahuru, mahuru.
“Ask anybody in a church what is a success. Tell me the truth. Fame, power, prestiges, money, are what we consider success. From God’s perspective, that is zero because you can get those from Satan and he would waste your life in no time.”
While rebuking pastors for merchandising the “anointing of God,” the cleric recalled a story of the mother-in-law of one of his friends.
He said, “I remember the story of a friend, the mother-in-law was part of a church of a pastor (I won’t mention name). The man was preaching a hot message that the Lord just said to him that if anyone would give one million naira to the church, in one month, he or she would get N10m back. He said if you don’t get it, come back for your money.
“The woman took him (the pastor) seriously. She went and gathered all that she had and brought it to the pastor and said, ‘Pastor, here is my one million. I believe in you and I believe in the prophecy.’ But she was smart. She started counting the days from the moment she dropped the donation. By the end of the month when she did not get the 10 million the pastor prophesied, she visited the pastor to demand her money.
“She told the pastor, ‘I am here, I have come back for my money. I am not joking. If you don’t give me I will call the police.’ O san o (The pastor paid it back).
“Because others would not come back like this woman, that is why they (pastors) get away with it (fake prophecies). The woman said ‘thank you’ and left the church. That would start taking place in the church; then they (pastors) would not promise what they cannot deliver.”

E2%80%99s-daughters-killers-herdsmen target=_blank>Tinubu Visits Fasoranti, Reacts To Report Linking Fasoranti’s Daughter’s Killers To Herdsmen

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Sunday visited Afenifere leader, Rueben Fasoranti, to commiserate with him over the death of his daughter, Funke Olakunrin.
Olakunrin was killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Friday along the Ore expressway while travelling back to Lagos from Akure.
Tinubu, who was in the company of a former National Chairman of the APC, Bisi Akande, said the brutal killing of  Olakunrin was sad and unacceptable.

He noted that he was concerned about the security challenges in the nation and asked Nigerians not to trivialize the issue of herdsmen.
Reacting to concerns on whether the killers of Olakunrin were herdsmen or not, Tinubu said, “Excuse me, I am extremely concerned about security and I don’t want a stigma.
“I can go through the history of kidnapping and you are mature enough. We know how it started, where it all started, there are a lot of copycats.

“How many years ago have we faced insecurity in this country and cases of kidnapping, is Evans who was arrested, and his disclosure, then a herdsman? I don’t want to be political. The question is ‘ where are the cows?’ ”
The APC national leader, however, admitted that the security challenges in the country must be well addressed .
He said the herdsmen issues should not be allowed to divide the country.
Tinubu said, “I am a nationalist and the security concerns and challenges right now must be faced squarely throughout Nigeria. The incident that affected one member of our family, Mrs Olakunrin, is saddening and unacceptable but nobody can return her alive, she has answered the call of her creator.
“We must not use this incident to divide ourselves but we must use it as a cure to the security problem by providing additional police and patrol.
“We also need additional security reinforcement along Ore Road and various flash points across the country. I have discussed this with  various authorities. The governor is aware and being proactive about this.
“The security challenges are numerous across this country. More police are being recruited and it takes time to train and deploy them in various areas, nobody prepares more than necessary for this.”

E2%80%99s-us-visa-now-heda-advises-trump target=_blank>N25bn Scam: Revoke Goje’s US Visa Now, HEDA Advises Trump

The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has called for the immediate withdrawal of the US entry visa issued to a former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje.
This was contained in a petition sent to the President through the US Secretary of State, Micheal Pompeo, and the US Embassy in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that Goje was facing corruption charges, a N25bn scam, until the Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation made a dramatic withdrawal of the charges.
In the petition signed by HEDA Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, the group said granting a US visa to Goje undermines the global efforts at fighting corruption.
The group stressed that allowing a suspect like Goje to get free access to the US would send wrong signals to victims of crime in Nigeria, especially the poor and miserable people of Gombe who have been denied the essentials of life.
The statement partly read, “We urge you to immediately revoke this visa in accordance with the dreams of the US founding fathers, who vowed to prevent the US from being turned into a haven for people strongly suspected to have committed heinous financial crimes.
“Our demand is premised on corruption allegations of N25 billion levelled against Goje and widely circulated by credible Nigerian media. Sequel to this, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission carried out detailed and diligent investigations for about 10 years, spending about N250 million of taxpayers’ money. The matter was charged to court before Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court, Jos, Plateau State.
“Gombe is one of the states in the North-East of Nigeria with a high rate of poverty. One of the other problems, aside from corruption, is poor education standard as exemplified in the number of out-of-school children in the state. There are over 600,000 out-of-school children fuelled by corruption allegedly perpetrated by the former governor.
“We write this request to demand that a man of this kind of political standing, with corruption allegations, should not be allowed to hold an American visa or if he already has one, it should be revoked.
“HEDA refers to the US 284 (Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act of 114th Congress (2015-2016),  particularly Section 3a (3) & (4) which states in (a) that “The President may impose the sanctions described in subsection (b) with respect to any foreign person the President determines, based on credible evidence.”

HEDA Gives Buhari 14-day Ultimatum To Prosecute Goje Or Face Legal Actions

The group also referred to the US law which affirms  “ineligibility to receive a visa to enter the United States or to be admitted to the United States; or (B) if the individual has been issued a visa or other documentation, revocation, in accordance with section 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1201(i)).”
It said the Attorney General of the Federation’s decision to discontinue the case grossly violated Nigerian laws which states that in exercising his powers, the AGF shall have regard to the public interest, the interest of justice and the need to prevent abuse of legal process.
The statement added, “Our demand is a result of the failure of the Nigerian Government to put enough commitment to the prosecution of Goje based on the allegations of corruption. We hereby crave the indulgence and discretion of the United States Government.
“In the circumstance of the above, we hereby demand that the United States Government revoke the visa if any or deny any visa application linked to the senator pending when the allegations of corruption against the senator has been cleared legally and appropriately.”

Speaking to journalists, the vice president reiterated the importance of community policing system to combat crimes in the country.
“As you know, i am here to commiserate with the families of Olakunri and Pa Rebeun Fasoranti.

“Another important thing is the intelligence gathering that is why we have the community policing system where policemen would be trained in their own local government and they would remain there,” he said.
According to Osinbajo, the government would also be engaging the military to watch flashpoints on the roads in order to boast its community policing system.
“As close as we get to the community policing structure that we exepect to have while we are engaging the Army so that there will be a bit of more military presence especially along the roads.
“This is to hasten the search for these killers and also to ensure that there is adequate presence to deter this kind of terrible situation from reoccurring.
“We are looking at the whole security architecture and trying to ensure that we are able to scale up and ensure that we are able to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.
“Security in a big country like Nigeria as you can imagine the challenge is dynamic and the we also have to be constistently dynamic and ensure that we are able to beat the challenages as they appear.
“I think that we can be very hopeful that we would see peace and calm as some of the steps we are taking come fruition.
“You know also we meet with the governors in South-west and in the different zones and everybody is coming to ensure that security is adequate and every feels safe and secure,” Osinbajo said.
