Nigeria’s Helen ‘Iron Lady’ Joseph is set for action against Martina Horgasx from Hungary on Thursday in her return to professional boxing.
The super-bantamweight fight holding in Connecticut, United States, is the second for the 30-year-old after a one-year competition drought occasioned by lack of sponsorship.
On April 3, Joseph ended the one-year break by defeating Edina Kiss, another Hungarian, by unanimous decision in a six-round fight in New York.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the path to Thursday was rocky for the talented US-based boxer, who had to buy the fight.
This means that with promoters and sponsors still nowhere to be found, she had to personally raise the $10,000 demanded by organisers to give her an opponent.
This she did through the sale of tickets with the assistance of the Nigerian Consulate in New York.
Also nicknamed “Princess of Africa”, Jospeh’s 15-year career boasts of an impressive 21-fight record of 16 wins, including 10 knockouts; two draws, and three “unjust” defeats.

President of the African Development Bank, Akunwunmi Adesina, has been trending on social media since he was pictured with different world leaders at the just concluded G7 meeting.
The annual gathering of the G7 nations, some of the world’s key industrial countries, kicked off on Saturday in the French coastal town of Biarritz.
Adesina, who was a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria was also present at the global leader’s meeting.
His picture with Donald Trump, President of the United State; Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany; Emmanuel Macron, President of France and other world leaders have been creating buzz on social media. President @EmmanuelMacron mobilized $251 Million from G7 Leaders for a guarantee facility for AFAWA of the African Development Bank, to leverage $3 billion financing for women in Africa. Nigerians have questioned why a country with someone of the calibre of Adesina would have inept leaders.
Oluwaseun Onigbinde, co-founder of BudgIt, commenting on the person of Adesina on Twitter said, “He is so presidential”.
Another user, @MistaChika said, “A country that is blessed with @akin_adesina have a Tinubu aspiring for the presidency. Tragic.”
Uche Chuta, a user on Twitter, also said, “If Akin Adesina becomes President, over 50 per cent of those in the Diaspora will relocate back to Nigeria.
“The foreign direct investment will also be massive. Various international organisations and companies and countries will be fighting to come to Nigeria to invest.”
Adesina has made remarkable impact in the agricultural sector that he was awarded the World Food Prize in 2017.
Explaining while Adesina won the most coveted $250,000 prize, Kenneth Quinn, the President of the World Food Prize Foundation, said it was in recognition of his impact “in African agriculture for over 25 years and improving food security for millions across the continent”

E2%80%99s-idea-cannot-be-caged-says-oby-ezekwesili target=_blank>Sowore’s Idea Cannot Be Caged, Says Oby Ezekwesili
Convener of Bring Back Our Girls movement, Oby Ezekwesile, has cautioned the Nigerian Government over the continued detention of pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore.
Ezekwesili gave the note of warning via her Twitter handle on Tuesday, stating that the government cannot cage Sowore nor his ideas.
Sowore has been held by the Department of State Services since August 3, 2019 when he was arrested in Lagos for calling on Nigerians to pour out to the streets and express their displeasure with bad leadership in the country.
The DSS had sought a Federal High Court order to hold Sowore for 90 days but the court granted them 45 days.
The Nigerian Government is accusing Sowore of planning to topple the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sowore, through his lawyer, Femi Falana, filed a counter affidavit responding to the accusation of the Nigerian Government.
Reacting to the development, Ezekwesili said, “Our FG @NigeriaGov led by @NGRPresident @MBuhari may think they have ‘caged’ @YeleSowore because he dared to challenge bad leadership and poor governance through #RevolutionNow.
“Not so, actually. His idea can never be caged. Why? You cannot cage an idea whose time has come.”

The Federal High Court in Abuja will on Wednesday hear the motion filed by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria challenging the ex-parte order prescribing its activities in the country.

Justice Nkeonye Maha is expected to hear the case.
The court had, upon an ex-parte motion by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation also declared the group a terrorist organisation.
Recall that the Federal Government had on July 29 published the order in its official gazette as directed by the court.

target=_blank>Milk Importers No Longer Able To Access Loans From Nigerian Banks
Mother Jones
Importers of milk are no longer able to access credit to bring the dairy product into the country anymore, Reuters reports.
This is due to a circular issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria ordering commercial lenders to cease lending funds to persons, who bring the much needed food item into the country.
In the latest directive given to banks, the apex financial institution said milk imports will no longer be qualified under payment terms called “bills for collection”, which allows an importer to buy on credit.
Under the new regime, importers are now mandated to fund their naira accounts and open letters of credit, it was gathered.
CBN’s governor, Godwin Emefiele, had in July announced that the bank will stop providing foreign exchange to traders importing milk into the country.
That announcement was followed by a declaration of intent by Nigeria’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to invest N288bn into dairy production in Nigeria.
Reuters reports that industry groups have been lobbying the government to stall its intending forex ban on the grounds that domestic milk production was insufficient for local demand.

target=_blank>Do More To Stop Illegal Arrest And Detention, Falana Tells NBA
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has called on the Nigerian Bar Association to do more to stop illegal arrests and detention of Nigerians by law enforcement and security agencies.
Falana said this in a paper delivered during the induction of Mr Fatai Abinjo as the 37th President of District 9110 of the Rotary Club, Ogba, Lagos.
According to Falana, “it is indisputable that Nigeria has largely enacted laws for the enforcement of the human rights of citizens and foreigners living in Nigeria.
“But due to the failure of lawyers and judges to hold the government accountable, the human rights of millions of poor Nigerians including civil, political, economic and social rights are violated with almost absolute impunity.
“It is high time the Nigerian Bar Association was reorganised to take its rightful place in the human rights community.
“Specifically, let all branches of the NBA liaise and collaborate with the Chief Magistrates designated to conduct monthly inspections of police detention centres in each state of the federation.
“The 1st Vice President of the NBA who is in charge of human rights should mount additional pressure on the Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to designate judges to inspect the detention centres of other law enforcement agencies.
“Attorneys-General who frustrate the execution of judgments or who fail to prosecute all indictable offences should be sanctioned for gross misconduct by the Nigerian Bar Association.
“The concepts of law and justice cannot have deep meaning and even application to the millions of our people who are merely existing at starvation level or even existing below that level.
“Nigerian lawyers should get organised and reposition the Nigerian Bar Association to end illegal arrests and detention in Nigeria.”

target=_blank>No Evidence Linking Me To Terrorist Organisation, Sowore Tells DSS
Detained human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has told the Department of State Services that he has never been involved in any act of terror and that there is no evidence anywhere linking him to belonging to a terrorist organisation.
Sowore also stated that there was nowhere he expressed a desire to launch any violent attack or topple the government in Nigeria.
In a 19-page counter affidavit deposed to by Mr Abubakar Marshal on Tuesday at the Federal High Court, Abuja in a suit No FHC/ABJ /CS/915/2019 in response to the allegations levelled against him by DSS, Sowore denied having any meeting or consultation with members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
He said that he needed treatment on his ankle, which was seriously sprained during the midnight invasion of his abode on August 2, 2019, by security operatives.
He noted that his pedigree as a pro-democracy activist, social crusader and frontline opinion moulder was unblemished, adding that he is one of the activists, who played vital roles in restoring democracy in Nigeria in May 1999.
He said he had never visited Dubai or any of the United Arab Emirates cities or received any money from any individual, group or organisation for the purpose of removing President Muhammadu Buhari from office or freeing any person through any unlawful means as alleged by the government.
The activist said that he had availed the DSS his local and foreign bank accounts details and the operatives could not believe that he does not have millions of naira in his accounts.
