E2%80%93jigawa-ex-governor-lamido We Did What Is Right For PDP By Choosing Atiku As Presidential Candidate –Jigawa Ex-governor, Lamido

Sule Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did what is right by picking former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.Lamido hailed the efforts and contributions of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, to the PDP. Wike was one of the aspirants who challenged Atiku for the presidential ticket of the party but lost out.

Sule Lamido

Lamido, however, said despite the contributions of Wike to the party, the choice of Atiku was best for the party and Nigerians in general. The former Jigawa governor said this during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.“Wike has tremendously worked for the party and made huge contributions to the party and in the last two years, nobody talked about the party more than Wike, I agree. But you see, at the end of the day, it is the political will of the people of PDP which will prevail.“And the party picked who they thought is the best for the presidential ticket,” he said.Lamido, while reacting to Wike’s comment that he could have scuttled the presidential primary when Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal was allowed to mount the podium again to announce his decision to step down, said the Rivers governor reacted to the defeat like any other human being. “Wike is a normal human being with feelings, emotions and expectations. So, when expectations are not met, emotions come in naturally, all of us are there for the party,” he added. He insisted that the decision to ensure Atiku triumphed was not made based on the region he comes from, but to give the party the best sellable candidate to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.Lamido is reportedly one of the northern leaders who convinced Tambuwal to step down and back Atiku’s candidacy during last Saturday’s presidential primaries and national convention of the party.

E2%80%94-sheikh-gumi Nigerian Government Should Establish Nomadic Ministry For Herdsmen — Sheikh Gumi

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has suggested that as part of measures to curb banditry and terrorism in the country, the Nigerian government should establish the Ministry of Nomadic Affairs. Speaking at a conference on Wednesday, Gumi said the establishment of this ministry would help to address the grievances of bandits and herders just as the government did to curtail the activities of the Niger Delta militants, NAN reports.

The cleric, in an interview with journalists, said, “Government should focus more attention on these people because they always say that they are aggrieved. “What I expect from the government is nothing less than what it did, when the Niger Delta youth were vandalizing the economy. “These people are also disturbing the Nigerian agriculture which is the backbone of the national economy. “I think the government needs to be more proactive; they need attention; the least they need is the Ministry of Nomadic Affairs that will look into their affairs,” he said. Present at the conference, the National President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Husseini Bosso, in his address noted that it was no longer news that kidnapping and armed banditry had become the order of the day in many communities in the country. Bosso, however, said that contrary to the general belief that pastoralists were behind this crime, they also were victims of abductions. “What is baffling is that crimes perpetuated against pastoralists have no traction in the media. Our members have been the highest victims of criminality. “MACBAN chairmen in Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa states and five other local government chairmen including Gwagwalada Area Council were all recently abducted and killed. “This buttresses the fact that we are not spared from the atrocities of the kidnappings and banditry in our communities,” he said. He said from 2015 to date, many pastoralists had been murdered and over two million persons had been displaced and impoverished, while over four million livestock had either been rustled, killed or confiscated by state governments outright. He also condemned the alleged maltreatment of pastoralists by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He expressed concern that no compensation or resettlement had been given to herders who lost cattle to rustlers or other non-state actors. “Yet no compensation, no resettlement, unlike other Nigerians who suffered a similar fate. For people with no known skills or trade, this is a real danger in the making. “Recently, it has become like a competition to enact anti-open grazing laws without recourse to the fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the Constitution,” he said. He expressed the hope that the gathering would proffer solutions to the security challenges and predicaments of the pastoral community in the country. “We hope measures will be taken to implement the recommendations of stakeholders and experts that will emerge from this conference,” he said President of the Northern Consensus Movement, Awwal Aliyu said there was a need for a holistic approach to the challenges facing pastoralists and Fulbe (Fulani) communities in the country. Aliyu called for the integration of pastoralists into society, stressing that they had been marginalised for too long. He, therefore, called for practical solutions to the challenges of pastoralists.

How Lagos Policemen Threatened To Kill Me, Extorted N300,000 From Me For Having Cryptocurrency Apps On My Phone — Resident

A Nigerian Twitter user who identified himself as Uche Anthony has narrated how police officers extorted the sum of N300,000 from him on Wednesday in Lagos.
Uche identified one of the policemen who accosted him as Patrick Abah.

“They were 4 in number. They drove us to one police station F division in Ikeja,” Uche later told SaharaReporters in an interview.
He said he was forced to part with the money because his life was threatened.
“They started making all sorts of threats to lock me up and no one will know where I am. Since they had my phone, I couldn’t call anyone,” he said.
On his Twitter handle, Uche said the policemen appeared to be offended when they realised that he had Binance App and Trust Wallet on his iPhone13 pro max phone. Binance is a mobile cryptocurrency trading application while Trust Wallet mobile application is the official crypto wallet of Binance, which can be used to send, receive and store Bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
“I just got accosted by the police and I was extorted of 300k in Lagos. Simply because I have Binance and Trust wallet on my phone. I use an iPhone13 pro max and I am in a lot of crypto groups and I am talking to foreign numbers who happen to be my uncles and cousins abroad,” Uche tweeted on Wednesday. He continued: “They seized my phone and won’t let me even explain. I can’t even start explaining. For the first time in my life, someone cocked a gun at me and said I should enter the car. I’m still in the trauma of the experience. “I could quickly pick (sic) up the name of one of the police officers. “They insisted I must pay them more than half of what is in my account. They went to my message inbox and saw my GTB balance. I said I wasn’t paying a dime and they said I’ll sleep in the cell and no one will know coz they were with my phone. “I was so scared of my life as I have read stories of people shot dead and abandoned somewhere. “They drove me about for hours and we started negotiating. They said 500k or nothing. Omo, I started thinking that these guys might just kill me and I don’t want to trend with the hashtag #justiceforuche for a Justice I might never get. My mum, my dad and siblings and how everything will play out. “I mellowed down and started negotiating. They drove me to a bank along Sheraton hotel by Maryland and asked me to go and withdraw cash. All the while they had my phone so I could not make any recording or take any pictures. They took the money from me and destroyed the withdrawal receipt. “They had me order a bolt driver before letting me go,” Uche added. Efforts to reach Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer were not successful as his mobile line indicated that his phone was switched off.

E2%80%99s-history-%E2%80%93 No Fulani Man Has Been Prosecuted, Punished For Murdering Igbo Person In Nigeria’s History – Nnamdi Kanu’s American Lawyer Writes UK Envoy

Bruce Fein

Bruce Fein, the United States-based lawyer of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has written to the United Kingdom (UK) High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing. He accused Laing of calling for a united Nigeria while Biafrans were allegedly being killed by the Nigerian government.

Bruce Fein

In the letter dated June 1, 2022, Fein asked the United Kingdom to file a suit against Nigeria in the International Court of Justice for denying “the people of Biafra a self-determination referendum as required by Article I of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and an infinite number of corresponding human rights treaties and resolutions.” In the letter, the US-based lawyer alleged that no Fulani has ever been prosecuted and punished for murdering a Biafran in the history of Nigeria. He added that calling for self-determination isn’t a crime. Part of the letter read, “I was astonished if not appalled by your May 12 tweet. You voiced delight at meeting with Ambassador President General George Obiozor of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other senior leaders from the South East. Why the delight or the meeting?
“Ambassador Obiozor is to Biafrans during their ongoing genocide by the Fulani what Lord Haw-Haw was to the British during the Nazi Blitz? Why would you meet with a quisling? “Even more reprehensible was your tacit enthusiasm for a united Nigeria, indistinguishable from a suicide pact for Biafrans. As you know, Nigeria was artificially created by the United Kingdom (UK) at the point of machine guns in 1914.
“Following its signature divide-and-conquer colonization policy, the UK forced the Biafran people, with a right to self-determination, against their will into a combustible mixture of incompatible ethnic groups under the umbrella of UK sovereignty. The UK decamped in 1960 leaving Nigeria poised to explode like nitroglycerin. The 1967-1970 genocide of Biafrans, aided and abetted by the UK itself, was as predictable as Newton’s laws of motion. “Prior to compelled unification in 1914, the British negotiated treaties with Biafra. A jus cogens norm of international law endows the Biafran people with a right to self-determination against a Fulani-controlled Nigerian government that has notoriously excluded all Biafrans but a handful of bribable defectors from the corridors of power. One stark fact speaks volumes. No Fulani has ever been prosecuted and punished for murdering a Biafran in the history of Nigeria!
“Self-determination stands at the apex of all internationally recognized human rights because it is preservative of all others. Self-determination is a shield against oppression by the tyranny of the majority or the ruthless.
“The UK insisted on self-determination for Protestant Northern Ireland to forestall probable persecution by the Roman Catholic Republic of Ireland. It supported a 2011 South Sudan self-determination referendum to redress the persecution of the largely Black, Christian-Animist minority in Sudan by the Arab-Muslim governing majority.
“Instead of supporting a united, lawless, Nigeria confected by the British for ulterior motives, you should be advocating a United Kingdom suit against Nigeria in the International Court of Justice for denying the people of Biafra a self-determination referendum as required by Article I of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and an infinite number of corresponding human rights treaties and resolutions.
“It is the least that the UK can do to atone for its egregious crimes and sins against the Biafran people that have persisted for more than a century. There is no statute of limitations on justice. “I expect a substantive response at your earliest convenience. Self-determination is too important to be left to temporizing or tergiversation.”

Police Chief Accuses Nigerian Army Of Working With Fulani Herders Kidnapping For Ransom In Abia

The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday blamed the Army for the incessant kidnapping cases in Isuochi in the Umenneochi Local Government Area of Abia State and its environs. There have been a series of reports of kidnapping by alleged Fulani herdsmen in Isuochi, Uturu, Amaeze in Ebonyi boundary communities.

Recently, the management of Abia State University, Uturu had to shut down the school and asked students to go home till further notice following incessant cases of abduction of students by terrorists suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Recently, a middle-aged man in the community was almost killed when an eight-man gang of kidnappers identified as Fulani herdsmen invaded his farm plantation and macheted him when he could not provide a ransom of N30 million.
The gang was reportedly operating from Garrik cattle market in Isuochi, Abia State. The kidnapping reached its climax on Sunday, May 29, 2022, when the Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Uche, his Chaplin and a bishop were abducted for ransom along Enugu-Okigwe – Port-Harcourt Federal Road. They were later released on Monday evening after a ransom of N100 million was paid to the abductors whom the Prelate described as Fulani herdsmen.
The cleric, however, accused soldiers of working with the criminals who abducted him.
His abduction, however, sparked a protest on Wednesday as Isuochi youths took to the streets and blocked the Enugu – Port-Harcourt Federal Highway for hours, demanding an immediate end to Fulani kidnapping in the area.
The angry youths also demanded the immediate relocation of Garrik cattle market in the area, saying it was being used to harbour kidnappers. Addressing the irate youths, who blocked vehicular movement on the ever-busy highway, the Commander Police Rapid Squad, Abia State Police Command, CSP Jonhbull, described the situation in the area as painful.
He, however, the Nigerian Army for the abductions that were going on.
He said, “My Name is CSP Johnbull, Commander Rapid Squad, Abia State Police Command. I was sent here by the commissioner of police two days ago to come and assist the people of Isuochi to do away with all these kidnappers – the Fulanis who are kidnapping our people. “Our people that are coming home, they are kidnapping them. We are not happy about it. Yesterday night, I sent my men to inspect the cattle market. They go there to spend money after kidnapping our people, they will collect ransom they will go and spend it there. The Army are (sic) not helping us.”

Confusion As PDP Supporter Collapses At Party Secretariat As Atiku Receives Certificate Of Return In Abuja

A yet-to-be-identified supporter of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, collapsed at the party secretariat, in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Wednesday The man, who was said to be between 60 and 65 years of age, lost consciousness at the ceremony organised by the PDP to hand over the certificate of return to Atiku.

He was said to have succumbed to the harsh conditions inside the National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall of the Wadata Plaza national secretariat of the party that was filled beyond capacity by the party faithful. A large number of people were at the event to witness the exercise, overwhelming the air conditioning system in the hall and causing extreme heat. Some people had been heard complaining that they felt dizzy before the incident. The development caused panic among those close to the door in the hall as he was quickly rushed outside. He was made to sit at the security post where concerned individuals tried to revive him by pouring water and using a hand-held rechargeable fan to provide air for him.

Canada To Decriminalise Cocaine, Other Drugs For Three Years

Canada has announced it will temporarily decriminalise the possession of small amounts of some illicit drugs in British Columbia (BC).
The province asked for the criminal code exemption after overdoses claimed more than two thousand lives in BC last year, BBC News reports.

Spring Board Recovery

This time-limited three-year trial is the first of its kind in Canada.
Adults will be allowed to possess a combined total of 2.5 grams of opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA. While those substances will remain illegal, adults found in possession for personal use will not be arrested, charged or have their drugs seized. Instead, they will be offered information on available health and social services In its request to the federal government last year, BC said it asked for the drug laws exemption in order “to remove the shame that often prevents people from reaching out for life-saving help”.  Federal minister of mental health and addictions Carolyn Bennett said on Tuesday that “for too many years, the ideological opposition to harm reduction has cost lives”. “We are doing this to save lives, but also to give people using drugs their dignity and choices.” Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart said the decision “marks a fundamental rethinking of drug policy that favours healthcare over handcuffs”. The programme will run from 31 January 2023 to 31 January 2026. There are some exemptions to the scheme, which will not apply to primary and secondary school grounds, child-care facilities, airports, or members of Canada’s military.BC declared the overdose crisis a public health emergency five years ago, and overdose deaths have since reached historic highs in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 9,000 people have died of drug overdose in the province since 2016. There have been growing calls for a shift in drug policy towards a public health approach from regions across the country. That has included support for some decriminalisation from a number of public health officials as well as the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. Ms Bennett said the scheme in BC could become “a template for other jurisdictions across Canada”. In 2020, Oregon became the first US state to drop criminal penalties for the possession of some illicit drugs. The state saw a drop in drug arrests though there has been debate as to whether it has prompted more drug users to seek help for their substance use. Canada legalised the use of recreational cannabis for adults nationwide in 2018.

E2%80%99s-ex-wife-amber-heard-defamed-him-awards-%E2%80%98pirates BREAKING: Jury Finds Johnny Depp’s Ex-Wife, Amber Heard Defamed Him, Awards ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Actor $15million Damages

Actor, Johnny Depp has won a defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard with $15-million awarded to the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor.
Depp won his defamation lawsuit against Heard as decided by a Virginia jury on Wednesday.

There were cheers outside the courtroom from the crowd of Depp supporters who had gathered there.
Inside the courtroom, a black-clad Heard kept her eyes downcast as the jury’s decision that she had lost her countersuit was read. The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The latter was reduced by Judge Penney Azcarate to Virginia’s statutory cap of $350,000. The jury also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages to Heard in her counterclaim and no punitive damages after finding one point of her lawsuit valid. The verdict — from a jury of five men and two women — came after nearly 13 hours of deliberation spanning three days. The turbulent defamation trial, which started April 11 and took place over the past six weeks, saw Depp and Heard trade disturbing allegations of domestic violence and abuse against a background of the social media sources that tilted heavily in the direction of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, Los Angeles Times reports. A source close to Depp said Wednesday that the actor-musician had “previously scheduled work commitments made before the trial” and would be watching the verdict from the United Kingdom. “No matter what happens, I did get here and I did tell the truth and I have spoken up for what I’ve been carrying on my back, reluctantly, for six years,” Depp said last week on the witness stand after calling Heard’s allegations “Ridiculous, humiliating, ludicrous, painful, savage, unimaginably brutal, cruel, and all false. All false.” Heard told the jury last week what she has gone through since splitting with Depp and filing her countersuit.“People want to kill me, and they tell me so every day,” she said. “People want to put my baby in the microwave, and they tell me that. Johnny threatened — promised, promised me — that if I ever left him, he’d make me think of him every day that I lived.” Depp’s claim required the jury to find that each of three statements by Heard was false, had a defamatory implication and — because he is a public figure — was made with actual malice. Heard’s claim required the jury to find that a former Depp lawyer was working as an agent for Depp when he made the statements her case cites, that he knew the statements were false and that someone other than Heard saw the statements. Depp filed a $50-million defamation lawsuit in 2019 against his ex-wife based on a 2018 op-ed she penned for the Washington Post calling herself “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”The op-ed did not mention Depp by name, but was oriented around the time Heard first levelled her allegations of abuse against him. In 2021, Heard countersued her ex-husband for $100 million, an amount that Heard’s closing arguments revealed to be about sending a message. Both cases have been unfolding in court simultaneously. Heard’s defamation claim pertains to public statements made by Depp’s former attorney, Adam Waldman, that dismissed her allegations of domestic violence as a “hoax.”The trial has been broadcast and live-streamed via CourtTV and other outlets, including YouTube accounts. While waiting for the jury to reach a verdict, Depp joined English guitarist Jeff Beck onstage at back-to-back-to-back concerts Sunday through Tuesday in England.Model Kate Moss, who testified during rebuttal on Depp’s behalf, reportedly attended a show and spent time backstage afterwards. Both Depp and Heard previously took the witness stand twice each in their defamation trial, which has been watched closely by the masses and heavily discussed on social media. While testifying, Depp detailed his experiences with childhood abuse, drugs and alcohol and claimed that Heard became “this other person” during their marriage. Early in their relationship, Depp said, Heard was “attentive,” “loving,” “smart,” “kind,” “funny” and “understanding” — until Depp deviated from certain behaviour patterns he said she had established. At one point, Depp accused Heard of throwing a vodka bottle that shattered on his right hand and severed the tip of his middle finger during a 2015 fight they had in Australia. In her testimony, Heard alleged that Depp injured his own finger by smashing a telephone against a wall. The former “Pirates of the Caribbean” star also claimed that Walt Disney Studios cut ties with him after Heard’s Washington Post essay came out. “It’s very strange when one day you’re Cinderella … and then in 0.6 seconds you’re Quasimodo,” Depp said on the stand, referring to the toll Heard’s public statements allegedly took on his reputation and career. “I didn’t deserve that, nor did my children, nor did the people who have believed in me for all these years.” During her turn on the witness stand, Heard told her side of the story. She accused Depp of verbally and physically abusing her, as well as sexually assaulting her on the night his finger was severed. Heard also alleged that Depp physically attacked her after the 2014 Met Gala and left her with what she suspected was a broken nose. In addition to the alleged physical and sexual violence, Heard maintained that Depp micromanaged her career by evaluating scripts she received and prohibiting her from accepting roles that involved romantic scenes or revealing costumes. As a result of the remarks former Depp attorney Waldman made about her to the press, Heard said she has suffered incessant harassment and been forced to relive the trauma of their toxic relationship under a microscope.

Fire Outbreak At Private University In Enugu Defies Solution, Rages For 11 Days

Efforts to contain a fire outbreak which is now being suspected to be methane gas that emanated from a water drilling site at the Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, Enugu have defied all solutions thrown at it. When SaharaReporters visited the site on Tuesday, the fire was still raging as emergency responders met at the site appeared to have run out of ideas on how to extinguish the fire which had been raging continuously for nearly two weeks.

Sources in the area told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the situation had not changed.
It was gathered that despite that the school has a Chemical Engineering Department with experts in various chemical fields and management, they were not being carried along by emergency responders and neither was their expert opinion sought. A lecturer with the university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told SaharaReporters that the fire might have been caused by methane rather than the insinuations that it was natural gas.
The lecturer noted that his assumption was based on the fact that Enugu has coal deposits underground He said methane is extracted from coal.A chemical engineer, Henry Nwachukwu, described the fire incident as an environmental hazard, which he described as a complex issue. He said, “From the report I got, some amateur during drilling came in contact with some substance and did not seek the knowledge of a professional. There is methane because methane does not have smoke; the only colour it has is flame colour which is brownish or golden with about 40 per cent of air which is what energises the fire to be flammable. “This flame is enormous because with the methane – 40 per cent and liquid source from cashew, it can be used for aircraft petrol. So, with that, this needs urgent attention for professionals so that our natural resources would not go to waste.” According to the expert, the substance can be used for power generation. He, however, regretted that bureaucracy is the bane of Nigeria’s problem.”The sickness in Nigeria is bureaucracy. If anybody should come up with an idea now, the idea might not see the light of the day because somebody at the top would like to be the one to be the inventor, not the person who is a professional, who has the know-how,” he said. He, however, said that to contain the fire, the source of energy would have to be considered.”So all you need to do is to take away the energy in the methane and the fire can be submerged,” he said. Meanwhile, Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, has said that it will commence a house-to-house search for unauthorised boreholes in the state. Chairman of ECTDA, Dr. Josef Onoh stated this when he visited the site of the fire outbreak. Onoh said it was an act of economic sabotage for residents to drill boreholes without approval from the relevant government agency, noting that the state would henceforth demand approvals from people drilling boreholes in the state. He said: “The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority is going to begin an intelligent clampdown on more, especially along the oil and gas pipeline that runs through Enugu state. “From June, which is next month, this agency will begin house to house inspection together with the Ministry of Environment, to clamp down on all the illegal boreholes so as to avert such fire disasters in the state. “We will not show mercy in the exercise because one is supposed to do a proper geological survey before embarking on any form of excavation or drilling. We shall also prosecute those found guilty.”
