Lawyers Prepare Legal Action Against Buhari-led Government For Re-arresting Enslaved 21-year-old Girl, Glory Okolie, Weeks After Release From Suleja Prison

Lawyers of the Indigenous People of Biafra have begun moves to take legal action against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government over the re-arrest of a 21-year-old woman, Glory Okolie, who recently got out of the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State after more than eight months of incarceration.Okolie was arrested by the Imo State Police Command acting through the Divisional Police Officer of Shell Police Station.

A source had told SaharaReporters that the young lady was arrested when she went to her bank branch in Owerri to withdraw some of her money.“The NPF through the Imo State Police Command, through the DPO of Shell Police Station, rearrested Okolie, who was only granted bail out of Suleja Prison last week,” the source had said.“When we reached the police spokesperson on phone, he said Okolie was arrested because she went to her Owerri bank to withdraw money, after it was flagged down by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Unit before her arrest and eventual bail.”On March 23, SaharaReporters had reported that Okolie perfected her bail conditions and got out of the Suleja Correctional Centre.Okolie had been arrested and enslaved since June 17, 2021, by the operatives of the IGP IRT in Imo State.Okolie was illegally detained and held in a cell by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team unit of the Nigeria Police Force for months on allegations of spying for the Indigenous People of Biafra. SaharaReporters on November 23, 2021, reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted bail to Gloria Okolie in the sum of N150million with two sureties.Ruling on the bail application, the presiding judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo admitted her to bail with sureties one of whom must be at least a level 14 civil servant while the other must own landed property and must have lived at the present address for at least two years.Okolie, who was accused of an offence bordering on terrorism was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly being friends with a suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. She was later transferred to Abuja, despite efforts by her family members to secure her release. While reacting to the bail conditions her lawyers, Ihensekhien Samuel commended the judge for admitting her to bail though the terms were stringent, they would apply for variation in due course. Okolie was later released on bail. Speaking t SaharaReporters, one of her lawyers said he and his team were making efforts to get the girl released.

Military Cannons Kill 50 Terrorists in Zamfara, 33 in Kaduna as NAF Jets Eliminate ISWAP Terrorists in Borno

In simultaneous airstrikes, fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force have eliminated over a hundred terrorists at Sangeko Forest in Zamfara, New Kusawa in Kaduna and Tumbuns in Borno State, PRNigeria reports.

In the Northeast, and after days of intelligence gathering, a ‘spy operative’ of the Nigerian military told PRNigeria that they discovered that terrorists’ activities in the Tumbuns near Bukar Meram and Kollaram had heightened.

According to the operative, insurgents had converted the location into an important rendezvous point for ISWAP fighters.

He said, “Further intelligence revealed that large stockpile of weapons was concealed in the two locations in anticipation of terrorists’ offensive operations.

“Subsequently, NAF aircraft were authorized to attack the locations. In coordination with other platforms, bombs and rockets were simultaneously dropped on the targets, while surviving and fleeing terrorists were mobbed up.”

In the same vein, PRNigeria learnt that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji carried out ‘aggressive bombardments’ when one of its fighter jets sighted over 50 terrorists on motorcycles at Sangeko Forest, in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The terrorists, upon sighting the aircraft immediately dispersed in confusion, a military intelligence told PRNigeria, in a phone chat.

He said, “It was however too late as the fighter jets took decisive turns in engaging the terrorists with cannons in successive passes, leading to the decimation of the miscreants and destruction of their motorcycles.”

As for the military operation in Kaduna State, PRNigeria’s investigation showed that an overnight ISR was first conducted between 30 and 31 March 2022, at Kusasu.

The ISR however, revealed four motorcycles departing the location to a slightly forested area Southwards of Kusasu.

Since the coordinates tallied with previous intelligence earlier received that the location is a hibernating point for terrorists, a NAF aircraft was scrambled, PRNigeria further learnt.

After the impact of the strikes, about 33 terrorists’ bodies were counted, while others dispersed in various directions.

NAF Spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the three operations.

He, however, said the objective of the simultaneous kinetic air operations was ramping up the pressure on terrorists’ elements in the North-East and North-West, with a view to ensuring that relative peace is achieved.

Soyinka Knocks President Buhari Over Failure To Find Bola Ige’s Killers, Slams APC For Appointing Prime Suspect, Omisore, As Party Secretary

Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to fulfill one of his electoral pledges by reopening case files of unresolved murders in Nigeria especially that of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Bola Ige.Soyinka, who shared his thoughts in an article on Saturday, stated that though President Buhari ordered the Inspector-General of Police to reopen the case of Ige’s murder, nothing tangible had come out of it since the directive was given, indicating that there was no political will to pursue the matter.

Wole Soyinka

Britannica

The literary icon further questioned President Buhari’s sincerity to relaunch an investigation into Ige’s murder following the appointment of the prime suspect in the case, Iyiola Omisore, as National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress.According to Soyinka, Omisore’s latest appointment and acceptance by Buhari is a major setback in the pursuance of justice in Ige’s murder. He said, “Barely three months have passed since the 20th anniversary of the murder of the late Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Bola Ige, an occasion that I utilised to remind President Muhammadu Buhari of a subsisting election pledge. That pledge was to re-open the files on the spate of unsolved political assassinations that had plagued the nation in recent decades. Prominent among those cases was that of the Minister of Justice, murdered on his way to take up a prestigious position with the United Nations. “Presidential response was swift. Buhari ordered  the Inspector-General of Police to re-open those files and resume investigations. The nation has patiently awaited even a hint of work in progress. Most, I am certain, expect no less than a revaluation of prior investigative efforts. None, to my knowledge, has attempted to rush the chief of police and his team into judgment. We all take solace in the knowledge that the wheels of justice grind slowly, but they arrive. Eventually.”However, an unusual turn of events has raised questions. The ruling party, headed by the same President, has just elected as its National Secretary one of the prime suspects of this most notorious of the nation’s unsolved murders. Not for a moment does one suggest that mere accusation, even trial,  presumes guilt. More than mere verdict is involved in any trial, however. The process of arriving at that ultimate destination – justice —  is integral to the very concept of democracy and equality under the law. That process is one of the structures of civic education.”Unresolved till today were quite a number of untidy, even suspect aspects of investigation, prosecution and trials, aspects which revealed improper cell co-habitation by suspects under custody. That this led necessarily to recantations of earlier depositions is not thereby proven, but the fact remains that such U-turns did take place. One was so brazen that it induced a heart attack that proved fatal to the victim’s wife, another justice – Mrs. Atinuke Ige. That the prime suspect was privileged in a number of improper ways went beyond mere allegation. Political interventions, including pressure on the judiciary during bail hearings cannot be denied. A judge under such pressure kept a diary with accusations, pages of which he consigned to friends for safe keeping. “With the emergence of the said prime suspect as National Secretary of the ruling party, is the Inspector-General of Police equipped to confront political obstacles in a resumption of investigation? Is there any guarantee that the result will see the light of day? How suspect, ab initio, will be the conclusions, given the present political ordering? “I repeat: we are speaking of blatant, undeniable exercise of political interventions during investigations and the arraignment of suspects. Prior incumbency of the position of National Secretary of a ruling party has demonstrated the potent interventionist clout that can be wielded from that office. The President has personally received, and thus anointed the new incumbent. Since he remains central to any re-investigation – whatever form or direction it takes — just what value of objective assessment can be placed on the presidential pledge?  “To this layman, that investigative revisit is already hamstrung and disrobed of credibility. I think the nation should simply relieve President Buhari of his pledge. I am certain the Inspector-General of Police will be equally relieved and can now turn his mind and energy to the national accustomed posture – business as usual.”Ige was murdered on December 23, 2001 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was 71 at the time of his assassination.Though a lot of persons were arrested and tried for involvement in his killing including Omisore, none ever faced any sentence as they were all acquitted.

Russia has said it will end cooperation on the International Space station with America’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and European Space Agency.Head of the country’s space agency ROSCOSMOS, Dimitry Rogozin, revealed this on social media, Daily Mail reports.
He said Russia will no longer work with NASA or the European Space Agency on the satellite and will submit a timetable for completion of current projects to the Kremlin. The move was said to be a direct response to sanctions placed on the country as it continues to invade neighbouring Ukraine.Recall that despite sanctions slammed on Russia by the U.S and its allies, the country brought America’s astronaut, Mark Vande Hei back home from space.Russia’s gesture has put fears to rest that the country threatened to leave Vande Hei, who has been living on the International Space station since April 2021 stranded in space.
