E2%80%99s-acclaimed-disciple-simon-ekpa-behind-killings-south-east-%E2%80%93-ipob Nnamdi Kanu’s Acclaimed Disciple, Simon Ekpa Behind Killings In South-East – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said a self-acclaimed disciple of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa and his gang called “Autopilot” were responsible for the criminal activities across the region. The group disclosed this while informing Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State that it was not responsible for the criminal activities in the region.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of the separatist group, said Ekpa and his gang were threatening residents of the South-East over non-compliance with the Monday sit-at-home order.A statement by Powerful reads: “It is a certain Simon Ekpa and his criminal gang called Autopilots that are carrying out threats against people’s lives because of non-existent Monday sit-at-home are criminals, kidnappers and robbers. These people disturbing the peace of our people are not IPOB members. They should be treated as criminals. IPOB doesn’t shed blood. We are a peaceful movement.”IPOB maintained that the Monday sit-at-home order remained cancelled, adding that anybody enforcing was not its member. He added, “We wish to reiterate once again that IPOB has cancelled Monday sit- at-home order and anybody or group enforcing the relaxed order is neither from IPOB nor from IPOB volunteer group. Any governor in the region who deemed it fit to stop non-existent Monday sit-at-home order in the region is free to do so.“Anyone caught adding to the pain of our people in the name of enforcing Monday sit-at-home order will be treated like the enemy that he or she is.“We, therefore, warn these agents of darkness using the name of IPOB to enforce a non-existent sit-at-home to desist because if we lay hold on them.“Why should such unpatriotic elements be inflicting pain on our people and dragging our image to the mud? IPOB remains a non-violent movement and our peaceful approach for Biafra restoration has not changed.“It will be recalled that IPOB leadership called for the Monday sit-at-home, and the same IPOB leadership has cancelled it.“Nobody was given the mandate to enforce the same suspended sit-at-home using the name of IPOB. The only day sit-at-home will be observed in Biafra land is when our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is appearing in court, and we shall as usual make it public for all to know.”The group urged leaders in the region to arrest anybody trying to enforce the sit-at-home order.

Nigerian Journalist With Guardian Newspaper In Hiding After Narrowly Escaping Abduction By Unknown Men

A journalist with the Guardian newspaper, Oludare Richards is currently in hiding following an attempted abduction by men suspected to be security operatives.
Richards, who issued a disclaimer on Friday said he was returning to his house at New Karu Secretariat, Abuja when a black Hyundai bus drove towards him obviously in pursuit to get to him.

He said he had tried jogging but the vehicle crossed his path. According to him, later when they realised they couldn’t keep up with him, two of the men jumped down from the vehicle and chased after him but with the help of body spray, he was able to escape.
However, with the fear that they could be security agents, he said he had not reported at a police station.
He has also not returned to his house and is currently in hiding and has informed the Commissioner of Police, the Femi Falana law firm and other journalists.
The journalist said he cannot remember doing a story of recent that could attract such a form of arrest or abduction.
He wrote in a message to SaharaReporters, “This is a notification of threat to life! I just escaped being abducted! I’m Oludare Richards with The Guardian Newspapers, Abuja. I just escaped what seemed like an attempted abduction by some men somewhere close to my house.
“I was returning home from an assignment. I’ve informed my Bureau Chief and a friend at Punch Newspapers. I’m in hiding somewhere now because I can’t go to the house.
“I couldn’t even go to a police station in case they are government agents. I thought to inform you in case of disappearance.
“I stepped off chasing the rights violation case against the DSS (Department of State Services) during the last assault against me because of this kind of threat to life.
“Now I can’t even go to my house or walk freely. I don’t even recall writing what could have drawn such an occurrence. The Commissioner for Police has been informed along with Falana and Falana Chambers, CPJ, AI, activists and media colleagues.”
Giving more details, he said, “I was returning home from an assignment, I didn’t drive, I took public transport. I got to the bus stop and started trekking. The distance between the bus stop and my house is not far so l started trekking.
“While doing that, I noticed a bus parked by the roadside — a black and tinted Hyundai bus. I learned how to take note of those things because of some things that have either happened to me or my colleagues in the past.
“As I was getting closer to my house, I noticed the vehicle coming towards me, then I decided to start jogging. Thank God that I did that.
“The vehicle was actually trying to block me but because I had already started moving, they couldn’t catch up with me. Then two people came down and started chasing me. At a point, I realised that I would not be able to outrun them, (so) I took a body spray in my bag and sprayed it into their eyes as they got closer to me and started running again.
“Then, I eventually got a motorcycle and asked the rider to take me to the nearest police station. On my way, however, I told myself that l might not be safe at the police station if those trailing me are government officials.
“So, l asked the rider to take me to chief’s palace. That was the only place l could think of at the time, I said if I get there, I would run inside. Immediately I got there, I started calling my people.”

Russian Government Accuses Ukraine Of Launching Airstrike On Its Soil After Fuel Depot Bombed

Ukrainian helicopters have bombed a fuel storage depot in western Russia sparking a huge fire, the regional governor said Friday, in the first reported air strike by Kyiv on Russian soil.Moscow warned that the helicopter attack on a fuel depot in the town of Belgorod would hamper negotiations, as the peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials resumed via video.

The announcement came on the 37th day of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, with thousands killed and more than 10 million displaced in the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II, according to NDTV.The strike in the Russian town of Belgorod marked the first time Russia has reported a Ukrainian airstrike on its territory since the conflict began.”There was a fire at the petrol depot because of an air strike carried out by two Ukrainian army helicopters, which entered Russian territory at a low altitude,” Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on messaging app Telegram. Two employees at the storage facility were reportedly injured in the fire, he said in another post.According to the report, some 170 firefighters were battling to put out the enormous blaze, which started around 6 am (0300 GMT), the emergencies ministry said.A massive fire was raging, with black and white smoke billowing overhead, a video released by the ministry showed.Russian energy giant Rosneft, which owns the facility, said it had evacuated staff from the premises.Long lines of cars waited at filling stations but the governor urged residents not to panic buy, saying there was enough petrol.”There aren’t any problems with fuel in the region and there won’t be any,” Gladkov said.

E2%80%94-report Why Boko Haram, ISWAP, Bandits Will Terrorise Nigerians Beyond 2023— Report

A report by the Sementix Global Concept has revealed insurgency and banditry will not end in Nigeria anytime soon. According to the report, the insecurity challenge in Nigeria will extend beyond the 2023 presidential elections as against the expectation of many people.

The report which highlighted four reasons for the extension of insecurity in the country noted that there were only about 300, 000 security personnel saddled with the protection of over 200 million people. This, it said, is inadequate, particularly with the peculiarities of the security challenges in the country. It further noted that time is running out for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to combat insecurity with the fast-approaching 2023 elections. However, it noted that the administration is more interested in keeping the All Progressives Party (APC) in power than focusing on the insecurity challenges confronting the country.  The report also highlighted the non-involvement of religious leaders in the fight against insecurity as a major challenge. It reads, “End of the Buhari’s administration and election year. The combination of two factors is working against Buhari’s administration’s resolve to end all insurgency in its time. “Time is fast running out on the government as it has less than a year to leave. Then it is also preparing for elections and trying to ensure that its party, the APC remains in power. “Inadequate security personnel: the combined Nigerian military forces are put at 200,000 to 300,000 men and women. This number is inadequate to defend a nation of 200 million people, particularly in the face of the increased activities and number of insurgents “Compared to Nigeria, Egypt has 920,000 military personnel, defending a population of 104,898,490 people. “Inability to attack all insurgents and bandits in one swoop: Security experts insist that the location of all insurgents is known, the problem is how to get to them in one great attack. “They say that if the Nigerian forces have the number to mount an all front massive attack on the insurgence, the war will be over in a matter of weeks. The issue now is how to get the personnel required. “Non-involvement of religious leaders in direct solutions: Nigeria has a lot of religious leaders and many of them have attributed the insurgency and banditry problem to the many sins of the people and calling for repentance and seeking forgiveness from God. “However, the government is yet to declare a National Day of Prayer or a national three days fasting or such type of activity. And according to the religious leaders getting such endorsement from the government is important as it will encourage citizens to be more committed to their worship.” Also, the report noted that there are fears of more terrorist attacks on Kaduna train station with two such incidents occurring in the state within the week. Bandits have been on the prowl terrorising residents of Kaduna state for months. They recently launched an attack on the Kagoro community, killing over 30 persons, burning houses, and kidnapping scores of people. They attacked Giwa Local Government Area of the state, attacked nine villages, killed over 50, burnt houses, and a church and kidnapped scores of residents. Less than 24 hours later, they unleashed mayhem at Kaduna International Airport, killed a security guard, and delayed aircraft from taking off. And on Monday night, they attacked an Abuja-Kaduna train with over 300 passengers on board.  The terrorists on Tuesday launched an attack on the Abuja-Kaduna, Yankara-Tsafe roads.
