Movement Of Food Trucks Resumes From North To South
Business operators in Kwara and neighbouring states have heaved a sigh of relief as free movement of foodstuffs resumed after some hoodlums reportedly blocked the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway over the weekend.
It was reported that truckloads of food items from the northern parts of the country were denied entry into Kwara State and other states of the South-West zone.
Investigation revealed that some Hausa youths stationed at the outskirts of Niger State, popularly called Kara-Jebba, near Jebba in Kwara State, last week stopped many truck drivers carrying food items such as tomatoes, beans, yams, cattle, pepper, among others, from going further from Kara into Kwara and other states in the South-West.
The situation, it was gathered, saw the trucks being parked along the road, creating heavy gridlock, while it was reported that some of the food items got spoilt.
However, it was gathered that free movement of goods and vehicles resumed on Ilorin-Jebba Expressway early Monday morning to the joy of residents and business people on the axis.
Confirming the reopening of the road in Ilorin on Monday, Prince Ibrahim Adebara, son of the traditional ruler of Jebba, in a report by Punch, said that a troop of military operatives drafted by the Federal Government effected the free movement.
Adebara, who said that the military personnel had stationed along the road to maintain law and order, added that they threatened to treat anyone that blocks the road as a terrorist.
One of the affected traders, Madam Balogun, said she was happy with the normalcy that had returned. She, however, lamented the loss caused by some perishable items that got bad while the situation lasted.
The Defence Headquarters, in a statement over the weekend by its Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier-General Onyema Ugochukwu, said it had cleared the Jebba-Kaduna Road of those preventing trucks from going to the South and restore normalcy in the area.
“This is also to give a stern warning to any unscrupulous group or persons who are aiming at disrupting legitimate economic and commercial activities by preventing the free flow of traffic and movement of goods in a bid to generate clashes along ethnic divides to desist from such unpatriotic acts or face the wrath of the law.
“Members of the public are also urged to promptly report anyone found engaged in such atrocious activities to security operatives,” the statement had said.

BREAKING: Ganduje Fires Aide, Yakasai, For Criticising Buhari
0 Comments
SaharaReporters had reported that the Department of State Services arrested Yakasai, who was, until Saturday afternoon, a media aide to Ganduje.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Saturday, the father of the governor’s aide and a founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum and elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, said his son was arrested on his way to a barbing salon in Kano, the state capital.
Though the DSS in Kano State initially denied arresting the younger Yakasai, DSS headquarters in Abuja confirmed that the sacked media aide was in its custody.
The agency’s spokesman, Peter Afunanya, while confirming Salihu’s detention, denied that the former aide’s arrest was connected to his criticism of the Buhari regime.
“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services. He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,” he had said in a statement.
The aide had called on President Muhammadu Buhari-led regime to either deal with bandits in the country or resign.
The embattled media aide was sometimes 2020 suspended from office for several weeks, having earlier criticised Buhari over his failure to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country.

E2%80%94not-nigeria%E2%80%99s-best-interest-fredrick-nwabufo Food Blockade Of South By North—Not In Nigeria’s Best Interest By Fredrick Nwabufo
Fredrick Nwabufo
No region in Nigeria is a self-sufficient archipelago. None is more fortunate in human and material assets than the other. Each region has its unique quality and contributes a consequential substance to Nigeria. None is greater than the other. We are like geopolitical sextuplets sharing one umbilical cord – nourished and oxygenated by mother Nigeria.
It is delusive to assume any of the regions solely underpins the Nigeria infrastructure. The north feeds the nation, and the south contributes in commerce and revenue generation. We are one concentric circle, holding each other at delicate arcs. Nigeria has a unified entity can stand as an island because its component parts are already flourishing archipelagos.
We should not take this ‘’symbiosis’’ for granted. Our interdependence makes us a viable concern. It is asinine to keep latching on the trope that the ‘’north produces nothing’’. This bromide is a fallacy. The north is Nigeria’s food hamper. The insecurity in the region which has affected farming, and the concomitant increase in food prices should make us reflect on the pivotal place of the north – beyond politics.
When there is a crisis (natural and otherwise) in the north, food production is affected, and the prices of foodstuff hit the stratosphere. The flooding of 2020 which affected rice farms and drove the price of the commodity further is noteworthy. Every region brings something to the table. All the regions are equal shareholders – in asset and liability – in the Nigerian partnership.
Fredrick Nwabufo
But I am afraid to say that a menacing spectacle is being enacted by those who do not take the shared interest of Nigeria with gravitas. The prices of foodstuff are said to be soaring to the heavens in some states in the south. Rivers, Imo, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, and Akwa Ibom are reported to be among the worst hit.
The reason for this contrived price hike? The food blockade of the south by some groups in the north. A group, the Amalgamated Union of Food and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) is demanding N4.7 billion from the government as compensation for its loss in the Shasha market crisis in Oyo and in the #EndSARS violence.
Also, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has threatened to sustain the food besiegement until the safety of its members in the south is guaranteed. According to Aliyu Mohammed, coordinator of the Kwara state chapter of Miyetti Allah, the beleaguerment is a ‘’warning shot’’ to safeguard their business interest.
“Except those who may decide to take other routes to get to the state or those who may act in defiance to the directive, the traders would not come from the north and those who come may be stopped or sanctioned,” Mohammed was reported to have said.
In addition, media reports at the weekend said the north is diverting food items to Niger Republic and Cameroon, and that trade routes to the south have been besieged. Trucks containing food items were occluded from moving south at Jebba in Niger state by some irate youths though the Nigerian Defence Headquarters said the military intervened and cleared the path.
For the sake of clarity, here are the words of Abdullahi Aliu, national president of the Northern Consensus Movement, confirming the diversion of food items from the north to neighbouring countries as reported by The Nigerian Tribune.
“As I speak to you, my people are already shipping their goods, onions, tomatoes and what have you to Niger (Republic), Cameroon, and other neighbouring countries through Illela border. Already, we have diversified. Our people have already found a way of not wasting their goods. They will not be wasted. They will be sold just like the way they were being moved to the south-west, south-east or south-south. So, my people will end up not losing anything.’’
What does this portend for Nigeria? Citizens diverting food items needed by fellow citizens to foreign countries? Are foreigners from Niger Republic and Cameroon now substitutes to Nigerians? This is sadism. And it is really troubling.
What if some groups, who have threatened to obstruct oil supply to the north, put action to their threat? Where does that leave all of us? We should not cut off our nose to spite our face. Nobody wins in this friction of attrition.
To break the ice, I think the government (federal and state) needs to step up to soothe frayed nerves. Investments and lives were lost in the crisis effectuated by the activities of some criminal herders in the south. Northern traders have also been victims of targeted attacks – losing much of their investments. It will be apropos for the government to attenuate the impact of these losses – on both sides – particularly in the case of the Shasha market clash. The government must deliberately intervene before the situation snowballs into an inter-regional tit-for-tat.
The civil authorities must go beyond platitudes and commit themselves to keeping the peace by ensuring victims of violence (farmer-herder crisis and sundry clashes) are compensated and criminals punished. Why there are often reprisal attacks is because justice is not done to the victims. A cycle of violence continues when justice is undone.Let wisdom prevail.

Corps Members React To Rumours NYSC Used February Stipends To Settle Bandits
Some corps members have reacted to claims that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had used their February stipends to settle bandits.
There have been fears among some corps members as they have yet to receive their February stipends.
Speaking with SaharaReporters on Monday, some of the corps members expressed fears over the delayed payment of their February stipends.
Some, however, said they were confident of being paid by the scheme despite the rumours.
A corps member in Anambra State, who preferred anonymity, said: “I haven’t been paid. The stipend hasn’t really been consistent as it should. I’m actually scared at the moment over the claim that our stipends had been used to settle bandits because this is Nigeria. I hope it doesn’t go beyond rumours because how will they use our stipends to pay bandits.”
Another corps member said if truly corps members allowances had not been used to pay off bandits, it would be better for them to be paid early in order to lend credence to NYSC claims.
“If the NYSC wants us to believe them, the allowance should come in as soon as possible so we will believe them and disbelive the rumours. Though, we know it’s unverified information but anything can happen in the Nigeria of today,” the corps member said.
However, some are of the opinion that such should not be considered at all. A corps member in Akwa Ibom State said though he had not been paid for February, he would never believe such his allowance was given to bandits.
He said: “Consistency in payment of stipends is relative in this case. Relative in the sense that while they paid our December on camp as early as 18/19th of the month, I received my January allowance on the 27th of the month. So I would say that they have been consistent in month by month payment but not in terms of date of payment.
“So, that’s a sheer rumour which should not be believed for any reason. They’ll still pay. Maybe because the month is shorter than every other month. But, I think the rumour should be disregarded totally. I don’t have any fear whatsover.”
On her part, a corps member in Ogun State, said: “I heard that the federal government had given our money to bandits but I think it just a rumour because it had not happen before.”
Similarly another corps member in Enugu said: “February allowance hasn’t been paid yet. Since others have start getting their pay for February, I think it would get to everybody.”
The scheme had on Sunday quashed the rumours of using the corps members February stipends to settle bandits.
It had said in a statement: “The management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to alert members of the public, especially corps members to the fake news currently trending, which states that corps members will be paid the February monthly stipend at the end of March 2021.
“The fake information claimed that the funds appropriated for the stipends had been expended on the settlement of bandits.
“Management enjoins all to disregard in its entirety the story which is the handiwork of mischief-makers.
“Management admonishes the originators of this falsehood to refrain from such criminal action. Corps members are advised as always to only rely on the information on the NYSC platforms.”

E2%80%99s-vice-president-resigns-amid-sexual-misconduct-allegations Zimbabwe’s Vice President Resigns Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations
One of Zimbabwe’s vice presidents has resigned following a string of reports in the local media that alleged he had affairs with several women, both married and single.
Kembo Mohadi, 71, one of the country’s two vice presidents, denied on Monday that he was involved in the alleged affairs but said he was stepping down “to save the image of my government.”
Both Zimbabwe’s vice presidents are single after divorce, TimesUnion reports.
His alleged affairs include one with a married intelligence officer. Local online media provided recordings of phone calls in which a man sounding like Mohadi propositioned several other women and spoke of drinking concoctions to enhance sexual performance.
In another recorded call, the man is heard arranging to meet another married woman for s** in his office. In a separate call, the man asks another woman to have his baby, which she refused.
Mohadi, a veteran of the country’s 1970s bush war for independence from white minority rule, has been a prominent government member for decades. He denied he is the man in the recorded phone calls.
In his resignation letter, he said he was a victim of “information distortion,” “voice cloning,” and “sponsored spooking and political sabotage.”

Former Kebbi Senator Arraigned In Court For N419million Fraud
A former Senator who represented Kebbi North in the sixth Senate, Umaru Argungu, has been arraigned before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court on one count of criminal misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N419 billion.
Argungu was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Sokoto zonal office, having allegedly diverted the sum paid by the Sokoto State Government as 40 per cent equity stake in the Hijrah Investment Nigeria Limited, owners of Hijrah Textile Ltd.
The Sokoto State Government had agreed with the former Senator to buy a 40 per cent stake in his company, Hijrah Investment Nigeria Limited, to create jobs and boost the economy of the state.
Investigations revealed there were several withdrawals and transfers from the said account to individuals not remotely connected to the objectives of turning around the company.
A visit to the company premises by investigators showed a company in a severe state of abandonment and dilapidation.
According to a release by the EFCC, the charge reads, “That you, Senator Umar Tafida, while being the Chairman of Hijrah Textiles Company Limited and Hijrah Investment Nigeria Limited sometime between 2016 and 2017 at Sokoto within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Justice Sokoto State, being entrusted with the total sum of N419,744, 612, being the sum paid by the Sokoto State Government, representing 40 per cent investment of shareholding in your company to boost the economy of the state, dishonestly misappropriated the money in violation of the mode in which such trust was to be discharged and thereby committed criminal breach of trust contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code Law CAP 89, Laws of Northern Nigeria and punishable under Section 312 of the same Law.”
He pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.
Based on his plea, the prosecution counsel, S.H. Sa’ad, asked the court for a date to commence trial while defence counsel, Ibrahim Abdullahi, moved a verbal motion for the bail of his client.
Justice Mohammed granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50 million and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must reside and have property within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge further ruled that the defendant’s passport be deposited with the court.
The case was adjourned to March 18, 2021.

What Does Adeboye Think of Apostle Suleiman? By Bamidele Johnson
Over a decade ago, a reporter asked Pastor EA Adeboye, arguably the Most Valuable Player (MVP) on the Nigerian Pentecostal landscape, what he thought of Prophets TB Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations and Samson Ayorinde of the World Evangelism Bible Church. Both men, along with Christ Embassy’s Chris Oyakhilome, were-and still are-deemed bad news by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) of which Adeboye remains a prominent member.
The reporter, who was of The Nation titles, wanted to know why the three men were frozen out of the PFN, which sort of advertises itself as the Pentecostal clearing house.
Sensing that the reporter was wanted him to shoot darts at the three preachers, Adeboye, a very measured man, steered the conversation towards some other thing I cannot readily recall. The interview progressed and, I guess, Adeboye believed that he had successfully thrown the reporter off.
The guy waited until the interview was about to end to pose the question in another way, asking if Adeboye would honour any of them with his presence if invited to preach in their churches. An emphatic “no” was his response. He also took time to explain why, presumably in his characteristic drawl, saying he did not know who their spiritual fathers/mentors were. This was a barely disguised indication that he considered their spiritual roots as wonky. Between then and now, the Pentecostal landscape has seen the rise to prominence of other preachers, including Omega Fire Ministries’ Apostle Johnson Suleiman, whose demented cat mannerism is thought to make him worthy of the “fiery” tag. Suleiman is mightily proud of his association with Adeboye and never fails to advertise himself as having a spiritual father/son relationship with the tranquil Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) leader.
Such relationships are rife on the Pentecostal circuit where younger and B-tier preachers aiming for the big time hungrily milk the reputation of the big hitters by claiming to be of the same DNA. Suleiman’s trick is posting-on social media platforms- photos of himself visiting the Redemption Camp and being “blessed” by. Adeboye and wife. Those photos, especially of his visits in 2017 and 2019, made his followers delirious.
That delirium must have ebbed a bit, following Adeboye’s failure to honour an invitation to be speaker and spiritual father at Omega Fire Ministries’ annual thanksgiving and 17th anniversary programme, which held between 9 and 14 February. No reason has been given for his failure to turn up, but media speculations attribute it to the latest instalment of s** scandal involving the balding Auchi-based preacher. It is safe, I believe, to assume he accepted the invitation before the pre-event publicity and announcement of his name. Suleiman was the subject of a s** scandal in 2017, a year Adeboye hosted him before doing so again in 2019, the reason I am taking the current s** scandal a limp excuse- not made by Adeboye-for staying away from the event to which he was invited as speaker.
This piece is not about the s** scandals, for which no evidence (let alone proof) of Suleiman’s involvement has been provided. It is about Suleiman’s vulgarly pulpit conduct, complete with breath-taking pomposity, generous dose of narcissism and relentless lying. Credit where due, though: Suleiman, typical of the modern Pentecostal preacher, has succeeded in identifying things that register on his followers’ emotional spectrum and uses such well. I have seen many videos of his teachings and observed that he avoids, very studiously, topics about the judgment day. His modus operandi is incessant self-promotion, talking non-stop about his own achievements in fixing followers’ broken lives and flaunting anything with the potential to bring him adulation.I will provide three examples. In one video, he narrated a story-clearly confected-of one of his pastors in Germany. The dude was scheduled to travel to France, according to Suleiman, to plant a church. But there was a mile-high odd: He had no passport, no flight ticket let alone a visa. No single document, claimed Suleiman. So, the guy, who never wondered how he has lived in Germany without even a passport, started wondering how he would get to France. Suleiman’s god, clearly a fan of illegal residency and chaotic lord of disorder, told the travelling pastor to head to the airport where he got on the queue of travellers and was the seventh person to the immigration desk before being seized by the fear of being caught. The fear heightened when he was sixth to the desk. Suleiman’s god told the pastor go into the restroom to pray and speak in tongues. I thought a pastor would know when to be pray without being told by God, with whom he had been in constant communication, and that speaking in tongues was spontaneous. Suleiman’s god, however, appears to prefer bawling out orders to his worshippers to pray and speak in tongues. Long story short, Suleiman’s god told the travelling pastor to walk out of the restroom. Pronto! He found himself on walking out the restroom of an airport in France. The event, according to Suleiman, was not the premiere of international travel via a bidet, urinal or water closet. He concluded his story by telling his audience of children in adult bodies that people like him are used to such. “You know your problem” he told his audience. “What you have not experienced looks somehow to you. But to those of us who have been privileged to experience a dimension of it, it is natural. You can disappear,” he said to the lusty cheers of his audience. All well and good. But should that claim not entitle him to be asked why he just acquired a third private jet? Why spend enormous sums to buy private jets and maintain them when it is “natural” to travel through lavatories. Can he not just drink water from his cistern and appear in Canada?
In another video, which recently surfaced online, Suleiman could be heard bragging that he bought his third private jet during the lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of Corona Virus.
“In COVID, I bought a jet. I have three; my third one. I was praying for COVID not to end. While people were complaining, I was resting. My wife was asking: ‘Can life be this sweet?’ When you speak in tongues, you are printing money,” he told the cheering platoons of idiots he had for audience. Some of them stood in wonderment, tongues hanging out of their mouths like those of thirsty German shepherds.
Suleiman is a grotesque character for wishing for an elongation of a period of great distress for humanity because, as he claimed, he bought a third private jet. His followers are of the same character hue. It is curious that he is the only one in his church that his god chose to bless with private jets. The others worship his god to remain, eternally, tiers below him in terms of munificence provided by an obviously segregationist god.
In yet another video available online, Suleiman told his followers, who clearly have the intelligence of a traffic cone, that a wealthy and influential Nigerian bought him a wristwatch worth £250,000 at a London airport shop. So dazed was the owner of three private jets that he waited for the gift buyer to leave the airport before returning to the shop to persuade the shop attendant to let him have a refund. The attendant, obviously a man/with the authority to make refund to an account from which the money did not originate, granted his request. To show gratitude, Suleiman claimed to have asked what the attendant earns monthly and the reply was £1, 500! After the refund, he gave the attendant £10,000 in appreciation.
As always, he was cheered lustily by his audience, who saw the wristwatch purchase as God’s work. Suleiman had claimed that God had used him to bless the man.
His stories are usually badly carpentered fiction; the type of tripe nine-year olds tell on school playgrounds.
So, back to Adeboye, who would have nothing to do with TB Joshua, Oyakhilome and the hardly sighted-these days- Samson Ayorinde. What does he think of Suleiman, who tells lies for fun at the top of his voice and craze-eyed demeanour? The three gentlemen who, in their own right are accomplished confectioners of divine blessings, are treated as pariahs by members of the same guild? Are they cut from a cloth different from what Adeboye and his presumably anointed friends are? Adeboye himself has form in this regard, having once claimed to have driven over 200 kilometres on an empty tank. Why does he see Suleiman as kosher and the three gentlemen as treif? Is Suleiman any different from the other chaps? I wish I knew, but something does not seem right.
