E2%80%93-defence-minister-reacts-lekki-tollgate We Can Use Force On Protesters When Required – Defence Minister Reacts To Lekki Tollgate Protest

Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi

The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, has said that the security agencies can use force when required to deal with protesters.
“We can use minimum force, commensurate with what is seen on the ground,” he said.

Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi

Magashi slammed the peaceful protesters, saying the military and the government would not allow another round of protests to happen, because of the “unpatriotic elements” infiltrating the protesters.
According to TheCable, the defence minister stated these on Saturday in reaction to the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest.
At the Saturday morning rally, more than 30 protesters, including Debo Adebayo, a Nigerian comedian, better known as Mr Macaroni, were arrested by security operatives.
The protesters have, however, been arraigned before a mobile court in Lagos, and granted bail.
Speaking on Saturday after participating in the All Progressives Congress’s revalidation exercise in Kano State, the minister alleged that some of the protesters are rogues and thieves.
He said, “This #EndSARS issue, if you recall, the minister of information has briefed this nation and alerted that something like this is coming; and we know we are always prepared. This is our job to ensure internal security.
“We must plan for it. We don’t want to be taken by surprise. And if you like us to be taken by surprise, then, there is no need to call us protectors. If #EndSARS is to take place today, we will ensure that we have peaceful counter plans to ensure that mistakes are not made in protecting the people.
“You know the composition of the EndSARS crowd. Over 60 per cent of them are people who don’t even know why they are there. They just come to take part. Some of them are rogues; some are there to steal. They want to do whatever they think.”
The minister added that the government would not allow “unpatriotic elements” to destabilise the country under any guise.
“Whoever is involved in this #EndSARS issue, the military and the government will not allow it to happen. But we will be as good as any other citizen to protect this country.
“We are not going to be harsh on anybody. We will maintain the law and peace to the best of our ability. We can use force when it is required. We can use minimum pressure, commensurate with what is seen on the ground. And that is where some people are getting it wrong.”

Hausa/Yoruba Clash: Four Feared Killed As Residents Allege Soldiers Only Protect Hausa In Ibadan

File photo

No fewer than four people were reportedly killed in Shasha area of the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday, despite the market’s closure.Shasha market is one of the major hubs of farm produce from the north in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

File photo

It was gathered that the crisis broke out when a Hausa man reportedly beat up a pregnant woman who accused her of littering the frontal part of her shop, while the deceased man, a cobbler popularly called Adex intervened but met his untimely death as the Hausa man allegedly hit him with a magic charm.According to eyewitnesses, Adex slumped immediately and started foaming in the mouth before he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.SaharaReporters gathered on Saturday that four people were killed while more houses were set ablaze. Yoruba people in the area told SaharaReporters that Soldiers from Odogbo Barracks, who were deployed to maintain law and order, were allegedly supervising attack on Yoruba people, which led to the mobilisation of more Yoruba youths to repel the attack.A resident of the area, who spoke with SaharaReporters, claimed that four people had been killed already while many houses were set ablaze despite the market’s closure and the curfew. The source said, “As we speak, I notice four corpses on the ground. The soldiers are supporting the Hausa people, that was exactly the reasons Yoruba people are protesting.” Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, on Saturday, urged all warring factions in the ongoing crisis to sheathe their swords. The first-class monarch, who lamented the high level of insecurity in the land in recent times, made this known in Ibadan today after holding virtual meetings with relevant stakeholders, including Hausa/Fulani leaders in Ibadan.Oba Adetunji said it was important for people to eschew violence and bitterness by ensuring that minor conflicts do not degenerate to unnecessary tension.”Many of our compatriots have been living with each other for a long time. We grow up and attend schools together. People from diverse ethnic groups do inter-marry and give birth to lovely children,” he said.Olubadan stated that he was surprised that a crisis could break out in Shasa culminating in large-scale destruction, such as burning properties. He said, “Immediately the report of the crisis got to us in the palace yesterday, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde was the first person I called. We have his promise that appropriate action would be taken as perpetrators would not go unpunished.”Oba Adetunji urged the governor to look into the possibility of compensating all those who have been affected by the crisis.

I Can’t Continue To Sit At EndSARS Panel, Adegboruwa Says, Condemns Arrest Of Protesters

Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), on Saturday, called for the unconditional release of all protesters arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State, saying it is hard for him to continue to sit at the panel on EndSARS.
The senior advocated said he was “saddened and devastated” by the dehumanization of the protesters.

Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa

Adegboruwa, who is also a member of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate, said he could not continue to sit at any panel when fresh assaults are being perpetrated with impunity. He stated these in a statement on Saturday. He said, “I have been monitoring events at the Lekki Toll Gate since morning, and I am overwhelmed with the images, videos and sundry evidence of police brutality of armless civilians, who ventured to protest at the Toll Gate. In one particular video, I saw citizens of Nigeria being dehumanized, stripped half-naked and cramped together in a rickety bus. This is unacceptable. “While we are yet to come to terms with the events of October 20, 2020, it becomes worrisome that the security agencies have not learnt any positive lesson from those occurrences. I commend the protesters for their peaceful conduct. “I cannot in good conscience continue to sit at any Panel of Inquiry to heal wounds and end police brutality when fresh assaults are being perpetrated with impunity. Consequently, I am presently consulting with my constituency within the civil society, as to my continued participation in the EndSARS Judicial Panel. “I hereby demand the immediate release of all those arrested in connection with the peaceful protest at the Lekki Toll Gate today. On no account should anything happen to any of them while in the custody of the police.”I appeal for calm on all sides, in order not to escalate the worsening security situation across the land. I cannot fail to point out that President Muhammadu Buhari’s present administration is a product of protest and civil disobedience. Let history vindicate the just. Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!” A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), on Saturday, called for the unconditional release of all protesters arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State, saying it is hard for him to continue to sit at the panel on EndSARS. The senior advocated said he was “saddened and devastated” by the dehumanization of the protesters. #OccupyLekkiTollgate: SERAP Threatens Legal Action If Arrested Protesters Are Not Released

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, on Saturday, called for the release of all protesters who were harassed and arrested by the police during the peaceful protest at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State. SERAP added that it would pursue legal actions if the arrested protesters are not immediately and unconditionally released.

In a series of tweets, SERAP said, “We urge Nigerian authorities and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately and unconditionally release #EndSARS protesters detained merely for peacefully exercising their human rights. Authorities should also cease harassing people peacefully exercising their human rights.”The United Nations and concerned governments should press the Nigerian authorities to end the crackdown on peaceful protesters, and unconditionally release those arbitrarily detained. “We’ll pursue appropriate legal actions if the #EndSARS protesters arbitrarily arrested simply for peacefully exercising their human rights are not immediately and unconditionally released. Peaceful assembly is a fundamental right.” ?On Saturday, the police arrested at least 18 peaceful protesters, including comedian, Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni. The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate had decided to hand over the tollgate back to its operators, Lekki Concession Company. But the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protesters kicked against the move, insisting that justice must be served to the victims of the Lekki toll gate shooting of October 20, 2020.

#OccupyLekkiTollgate: Group Condemns Arrest Of Protesters, Demands Their Immediate Release

The Center for Human and Socioeconomic Rights has condemned the arrest of 18 peaceful protesters by the police at the Lekki Tollgate today in Lagos State while calling for their immediate and unconditional release. The CHSR, in a statement, on Saturday emphasised that Nigerians had the right to peaceful protest and should, therefore, not be harassed by state agents and officials.

The CHSR National President, Alex Omotehinse, and the General Secretary, Ewajane Osowo, added that arresting protesters in a democracy is “undemocratic, unconstitutional, and unlawful.” The group said, “The Center for Human and Socioeconomic Rights condemn and call for the immediate and unconditional release of all the protesters under the aegis of #OccupyLekki arrested today in Lagos by the policemen deployed to the protest ground to maintain law and order.
“We heard that the arrested and brutalised protesters have been taken to the Adeniji Adele police station and the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.
“The protesters were protesting against the Lekki toll gate plaza reopening, which was the venue of October 20, 2020, shooting that led to the death and left some EndSARS protesters injured.
“This was the situation that prompted the Lagos State government to set up a judicial panel of enquiry to look into the complaint of aggrieved persons while the panel has yet to round up their investigations.

“The basis of the EndSARS protest then was the current state of the insecurity in the country, protesting the high level of corrupt practices, asking for free and qualitative education, demanding for accountability from those who were saddled with the responsibility to handle the country’s economy. “It is the fact that there are still some petitions submitted to the panel by some who claimed to have lost relatives on October 20, 2020, shooting and their cases have not been heard; we believe this may be one of the reasons for their demand for the Lekki Toll Gate reopening to wait till the panel rounded up and submitted the report and outcome of their findings.  “Therefore, we urge the leadership of Lagos State Police Command to caution its men, to stop harassing innocent citizens who are demanding their rights legitimately without breaking the law.”

The ‘Ministry’ Of Carnal Knowledge! By Ozodinukwe Okenwa

SOC Okenwa

Christianity is a big business in Nigeria yet it is in big trouble. In a morally-corrupt clime where evil seems to have triumphed over good those called to be the epitome of uprightness and righteousness showing the way have themselves become the problem.
Yesterday you must have heard about incest, today you hear about sexual scandals and tomorrow you are assailed with tales of corrupt practices by the so-called men of God. Now that corruption has risen to an uncontrollable level in the mundane and spiritual domains weeping for our dear nation in distress should be seen as the last option by patriots.

Recently ‘Apostle’ Johnson Suleman, the General-Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide based in Auchi, Edo State, was in the news yet again for wrong reasons. Few years ago this same arrogant fake apostle was sensationally accused by a lady based in Canada, Miss Stephanie Otobo (then 23) of having a sexual relationship with her that later turned sour following the failure of the pastor to keep his promise of marrying her! The Suleman/Otobo s** scandal had many manipulative turns and twists.
And finally following suspected discreet negotiations Ms Otobo came down to Auchi tp play the game of denial alleging shamefully that some pastors and politicians had given her “too much money” in order for her to tarnish the image and reputation of the OFM minister of the gospel. How an explosive revelation of an adulterous relationship which led to a pregnancy and abortion (backed by video evidence online, bank transfers from him to her and telephonic conversations) could have been a product of blackmail still beats our imagination.
In Auchi before a huge congregation Ms Otobo ate her words by apologising profusely to the pastor and his wife. Yet what the larger audience that watched or listened to the confession of the century never heard was how the deal leading to apology was struck. And those behind the scheme to have her capitulate. Besides, the names of the pastors and politicians that allegedly splashed money generously on Stephanie for her to damage Suleman were never mentioned.
Now another drama bothering on infidelity and adultery had been trending online involving the same apostle and the family of a former pastor in the church. This time it was a love triangle involving Apostle Suleman, Pastor Mike Davids and his estranged wife named (Pastor) Faith Edeko. The accusations and counter-accusations between the apostle and the Davids’ family recently took a new dimension with the former OFM pastor threatening to release the details about the nocturnal meetings that led to Ms Otobo recanting her romantic narratives.
Pastor Mike Davids had alleged that Apostle Suleman had snatched his wife enjoying what sexually belonged to him! Though Madam Edeko had countered the accusation by saying it was a cheap blackmail from her former husband no one expected her to come clean with the truth if really she was involved in an amorous relationship with Suleman. Remember she still pastors in one of the church branches.
The truth of the matter is that Apostle Suleman is not alone in this acrobatic s** game involving the new-generation pentecostal men of God. In South Africa a Nigerian Pastor, Timothy Oluseun Omotoso, of the Jesus Dominion International Ministry headquartered in Durban, South Africa, remains in jail a couple of years down the line and still counting. The popular flamboyant televangelist had been accused of rape and human trafficking and racketeering! He is currently standing trial at the Port Elizabeth High Court.
Senior Pastor Tim was nabbed by the South African priority crimes unit, the ‘Hawks’, at the Port Elizabeth International Airport as he made his way to embark on another international evangelical jamboree. Week in week out, month in month out, year in year out, lurid details of the pastor’s sexcapades were being exposed by the numerous ‘victims’ (especially young SA girls).
Given the fact that those sexually molested or abused are coming out to testify againt the pastor as the trial continues it would be a miracle (God’s supernatural intervention in the natural affairs of men) for him not to be convicted. Over 30 young girls had come forward to detail their experiences at the hand of the alleged sexual predator spanning years!
Back home in Nigeria few years ago it was the charismatic Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo that was in the news for abominably sexual reasons. Mrs Busola Dakolo, the glamorous wife of popular musician, Timi Dakolo, had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her repeatedly when she was still a teenager! The Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Abuja-based man of God denied it all. And the litigation that followed failed to convict him.
The cosy COZA Pastor was once accused by one London-based lawyer and radio broadcaster, Ms Ese Walter, of having s** with her for a week in London in 2013! Ese revealed how the s** occurred after she was invited by Fatoyinbo to his hotel room during a visit to London, during which he offered her alcohol and ‘raped’ her as she became tipsy!
In my own state of Anambra where ‘Prophet’ Odumeje and co have taken Onitsha by storm performing ‘miracles’ and doing ‘wonders’ an ugly news broke online recently about a barely-educated controversial Pastor named Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as ‘Onyeze-Jesus’. A former bus conductor who is said to have been only to a primary school as academic qualification the 33-year old beefy pastoral element was seen in a video online that went viral gathering some members of his church, men and women, in a local river, all naked, and performing what looked like an obscene ritual on them.
The founder of Children of Light Anointing Ministries based in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, was subsequently arrested and docked by the state government in what it termed “criminal and indecent conduct in the name of religion”. The youthful well-fed Pastor is known to have been making some get-rich-quick promises to gullible members of his church and to the public.
In the video he was seen decked in an immaculate white robe facing the naked young men and women kneeling inside the river. At a point he was splashing them with wads of Naira notes! Even John the Baptist never behaved this way when he baptised Jesus the Christ.
Though he had apologized to the Government and people of Anambra State for abusing the Naira justice must take its course. Pastor ‘Onyeze-Jesus’ must be properly investigated and prosecuted to serve as deterrence to others. His wierd evangelism is capable of discouraging hardwork and encouraging a syndrome of easy wealth acquisition through evil means.
Beyond the hyped miracle stunts and promises of riches and sexual defilements Nigeria is witnessing a spiritual descent to the gutters. While it is not our duty to question anyone’s spiritual calling or anointing, we have the moral authority to complain. Raising concerns about the credibility of these religious predators must be done without fear or favour.
The conclusion to be drawn from the abominable things happening from the pulpit to the bedroom of the so-called men of God is that the body of Christ has been desecrated, violated by the same ‘servants’ that ought to keep watch over the sheep. The shepherd has, therefore, become a predator in whom even the celestial hosts are no longer well pleased. Men of God or men of dog? Well, your guess is good as ours.
Suffice to say, however, in the final analysis, that some men of God or men of dog have disingenuously transformed the ministry of bible knowledge into the ‘ministry’ of carnal knowledge. Shame!

Folarin “Falz” Falana

No fewer than 18 protesters who participated in the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protest have now been arrested and detained by the Nigerian police.
SaharaReporters was told that the protesters are Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, Ayoyinka, Christiana, Prince Samuel, Waliu, Bolanle, Ganiu, Elvis, Ganiu, Jeffery, Damilare Adenola, Christopher Ogoje, Damilola, Adelare, Joseph David, Kehinde, Aghedo Juwon and Kiki.

Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, condemned the police action, noting that the authorities should be ready for the consequences of their actions.
He said, “Mr Macaroni and several other innocent Nigerians have just been arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate for exercising their fundamental human right to protest. The Nigerian government has shown by this senseless act that it is not concerned with upholding our democracy or the rule of law.
“They are showing that they are not interested in serving justice as regards the October 20 incident. This show of force is supposed to make us fear for our lives, but the life we live does not get meaning before; absolutely nothing to lose at this point. They better be ready for the consequences of these actions.”
The police in Lagos State earlier arrested the protesters on Saturday, attacking and harassing them as they were hurled into a black maria.
The protesters were arrested around 7:50 am, SaharaReporters gathered.

Herdsmen Invade Ogun Community, Kill Mother, Child, Others

File Photo: Herdsmen.

Some suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday night invaded Igbooro, Oja-Odan in the Yewa-North Local Government area of Ogun State, killing three persons, including a mother and her child.
According to Punch, the herdsmen also injured two villagers when they attacked the community close to Eggua in Oja-Odan around 11 pm on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said the herdsmen shot indiscriminately, set ablaze three houses and storehouses in the village.
“A mother and her child were among the three persons killed in their huts while two persons were said to be in critical conditions after the herdsmen shot them,” a witness said.
It was also learnt that many people, including children, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The attack came barely 24 hours after five persons were killed in Owode Ketu, Ogun State.
Confirming the incident, Baale of Igbooro, Abidemi Akorede, said he had counted three corpses as of the time of speaking with our correspondent on Saturday morning.
Akorede said two villagers, a man, and a woman had been rushed to a nearby hospital after they sustained gunshots injuries.
The village head said, “Some Fulani herdsmen invaded our village last night. As they arrived, they set ablaze some houses and started shooting sporadically; they macheted a child to death where he hid.
“They hacked a mother and her child to death. I have counted three corpses; two have been rushed to the hospital; they are in critical condition after being shot.
“They did not come with their cattle for grazing. They just stormed the village, killed people, and destroyed a lot of property.
“Three houses were set ablaze and one commercial bus. Silos were also burnt with the grains.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
Oyeyemi said a team of policemen had been drafted to the scene to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He said, “We are aware, and the command has deployed policemen to the place.”
