Two Schools Sealed In Ondo For Violating COVID-19 Rules

Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu

Barely 48 hours after the reopening of schools for graduating students, two schools have been shut by the Ondo State Government for violating the COVID-19 guidelines for resumption of classes.
The schools, C.A.C Grammar School in Akure and the Akure Academy Secondary School in Oba Ile, were sealed during the monitoring of schools in the state to see their level of compliance for COVID-19 rules.
Mr Akin Asaniyan, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the state, made the disclosure in Akure shortly after the tour of some schools in the state capital.
Asaniyan said the two schools were closed after the students were seen at separate locations roaming the street and staying in an unclean environment in total disregard for the guidelines for reopening of schools.

Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu

He said, “There is no single preparation in the schools, therefore they will remain sealed until the basic things are put in place.
“The monitoring team would be going round across the state to close down schools that fail to comply with the government’s directives till they do the needful.”
According to him, some of the schools were yet to comply with the guidelines on COVID-19 for the resumption of classes for the graduating students.
Asaniyan said the government had observed that the people no longer took the Coronavirus pandemic serious again in the state.
He added that government would not tolerate any abysmal performance from any school management on the guideline for reopening of classes.
Authorities of the two schools refused to comment when our correspondent contacted them for reactions.
But a student in one of the affected schools, Banji Ayanfe, who spoke with SaharaReporters, pleaded with state government to reopen the school so they can go ahead with their academic activities.
Recall that the government had on August 1 approved the reopening of schools in the state ahead of the senior secondary certificate examination beginning on August 17.

E2%80%99s-comment-unschooled-unfortunate-tope-temokun August 5 Protest: Adesina’s Comment Unschooled, Unfortunate! By Tope Temokun

Femi Adesina

The branding of the nationwide protest which took place across the country yesterday as a mere irritation and child’s play by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, is unschooled and unfortunate.
What happened yesterday in Nigeria was a historical remembrance of a day with history. In a desperate bid to kill the build-up of national mood and frustrate the planned nationwide protest called by Omoyele Sowore to demonstrate the rejection of the bad governance, national insecurity, wanton killings ongoing on a daily basis and other serial mispolicies that were suffocating meaning out of the lives of Nigerians and slated for August 5 2019, the convener was arrested on Saturday, August 3, 2019, by men of Department of State Services. This was to begin a long schedule of programmed repressive machinations by this government which started with the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, who was only released on December 24, 2019, after spending months in illegal incarceration of the government.
Now today in our history August 5 has evolved and has become a date with history for the masses of this country to mark a day they appointed to shout out that they could not breath under their government and what took place yesterday was a commemoration of the day of rage, a cementation of covenant with history that every August 5 will be the Masses’ Day in this country, an affirmation of the correctness of the mission and vision behind the August 5 2019 protest agenda and a correspondence to this government that the killings have not stopped, the insecurity has not stopped, the unemployment has even skyrocketed, the hunger has not stopped and that bad governance, coloured in unbridled corruption, is still on throne here with us.

Femi Adesina

For the mouthpiece of the government of the day to come to the open to say the protest is a mere irritation, a protest that cuts across states of the country yesterday where angry youths, save for the hungry ones who are either dying in silence or who are already feeling the sense of hopelessness, which is even more dangerous than open protest, dared the bullets in their hundreds and marched on the streets, is so shameful. It portrays the maker of the statement as insensitive and inhuman.
First and foremost, a father who has twenty children will be foolish to claim the children are not hungry or needy just because only or two have the courage to cry out. If a government does not see the cries of agonies of tens of its citizens as a sign that all is not well just because there are no millions in the street, then the government has lost all moral sense and it has become a calamity to its people.
It is only in Nigeria where protest is confronted with bullets and bayonets from the government that the seriousness and sensitivity of agitations are measured in the quantity of crowd who are ready to face the bullets. In saner societies, one man’s march through the street may move the government to sit tight or review its policy.
But here, once the number of bullets outnumber the number of protesters then it is just an irritation and not a revolution!

E2%80%9Cunmarried-women%E2%80%9D-affairs Bauchi State Governor Appoints Special Assistant On “Unmarried Women” Affairs

Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has appointed Balaraba Ibrahim as his Special Assistant on Women Affairs (Unmarried).
Mohammed Sabi’u Baba, Secretary to the State Government, made this known in a letter to Ibrahim dated August 4, 2020.

The letter reads, “I am pleased to convey the approval of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for your appointment as Special Assistant Woman Affairs (Unmarried). The appointment is based on your knowledge, experience and personal qualities of handwork, honesty and absolute loyalty.
“I would expect you utilize all these qualities in facing the challenges of your office to facilitate the attainment of our collective goal and the expectation of our electorate.”

Surprisingly, this is not the first time that Nigerian state governors would be making unusual appointments – the latest merely adds to the list after former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, in December 2017 appointed his biological sister, Mrs Ogechi Ololo, as Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment.

E2%80%93pdp Invasion Of Edo Assembly A Direct Coup Against Democracy –PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has described the invasion of Edo State Assembly as a direct coup against democracy.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday the party said that the invasion of the Edo Assembly was part of a ploy by the ruling All Progressives Congress to cause a crisis ahead of the governorship election in the state in September.

The statement reads, “The party posits that the invasion and illegal occupation of the state legislature by security agents allegedly deployed by sacked national chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, is a direct coup against the democratic order of Edo state and a recipe for anarchy, chaos and bloodletting.
“We urge the Inspector General to act with dispatch to curb this nefarious situation, which has heightened tension in the state, and if not halted, may result in a bloody clash as the citizens are already charged to defend their symbol of democracy from a forceful takeover.”

She disclosed this while speaking with SaharaReporters on Thursday in reference to the high-handedness on the part of law enforcement agencies that greeted the #RevolutionNow protests across Nigeria on Wednesday.
Baiyewu also demanded the arrest and prosecution of all officers involved in the torture and inhuman treatment of the protesters calling for better governance in Nigeria.

She said, “I think that the Nigerian Government should be totally ashamed of itself and conduct in democracy. What happened yesterday was complete madness.

“I think the President owes Nigerians an apology and every officer involved in that madness should be arrested and prosecuted because they have committed a crime. They have gone beyond the purview of the law which is to maintain peace.
“They have taken it upon themselves the office of the law itself to execute justice.”
No fewer than 40 protesters were arrested and brutalised by a combined team of security operatives in Abuja during the peaceful demonstration in the city.

Health Workers In Bauchi Embark On Indefinite Strike Action Over Salary Deductions

The Joint Health Sector Union and Assembly of Health Care Professionals, Bauchi State chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike action over salary deductions.

Prospective Corps Members Appeal To NYSC To Reopen Camp

Prospective corps members have appealed to the National Youth Service Corps to reopen orientation camps for commencement of service.
Some of them, who spoke with SaharaReporters, asked the NYSC management to post them directly to organisations currently operating without camping as recommended by ‪Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
One corps member, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said, “We registered to commence service before the lockdown. We were unable to go for camping because the first stream was already filled. We were thus told to wait for the second stream. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus lockdown started while stream 1 camping was ongoing. It was suspended, and the camps were closed.

“We are getting older and our months are essentially wasting, in the sense that, going this way, we will be forced to do the same service for 12 months after all these is over. The pandemic has brought financial hardships on us and our parents. At a time we ought to package our profiles and apply for jobs to ease the hardship, we are being held back for having not served.
“Some of us have to commence graduate studies next year. It is only reasonable that we know when our service ends so we can plan our applications and preparations accordingly. We are now been indefinitely held back by the silence from the NYSC management. Commencing service and having to spend likely 12 more months than our colleagues in stream I practically renders some of us ineligible to apply for most jobs with age restrictions.
“In the light of this, we humbly request that the concerned authorities consider our demands.
“Should ‪@officialnysc consider the above to not be feasible yet, they should activate our profiles and make our months of waiting on their decision count out of our service year.”
